    All bikes should have them, one of the best mods to any bike. The times I have struggled in the past, usually in tour, have been frustrating.

    I used one of your 'how to' videos to replace pads back brake on my Bonneville to get it through the MOT and your puncture repair tubeless tyre video on the following MOT day when I woke up to a nail and had to repair it before I could go, had to also call out AA man for flat battery - can't underestimate the value to Average Joe of these 'how to' videos

    Hiya Del and... Penny! I saw you at around 4:34. Hi!
    Del, I have to agree about these 90º valve stems. When I got my Bandit they were already fitted and they make inflation such a breeze. Really nice demonstration of how to install them pulled off with your habitual style. Great video! Take care, my friends. Enjoy the weekend, be well and keep the rubber side down.

    Ah yes! We all know this pain as motorcyclists, eh? Mine aren't quite so annoying to fill or check, but I definitely cast a frown at them every time I do put in air. I think the very next model year after mine they came from the factory as 90* jobbies, so there's that bit of mumble grumble too, lol. Great episode!

    Great video BTW. I installed these billeted racing valves on my GL1500 SE a few years ago due to the same reason. I filed the support tag for the old valves off so that both valves faced to the right when back on the bike which makes filling with air easier whilst on its side stand. I've heard of so many valves blowing out after hitting pothole etc and the risk is just not worth it. Best safety mod I have done to the bike and definitely a must. Highly recommended.

      Front wheel, I have angle extension that I leave attached, some remove them after each check, makes it much better to get between the duel rotors.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wobbly sauce: good call mate, but something I might, respectfully share, I've had one of those work it's way loose by coming slightly unscrewed and as they depress the schrader stem, the tyre simply deflated whilst riding, pretty scary, so when I use them now I had a dab of threadlock if I'm going to leave them in situ (just in case)... and obviously I wouldn't use them on a rubber neck stem as the weight of them would bend it flat, but am sure you know that.

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Moonfleet41 Indeed depends on the bike as some are... not the easiest to check pressures, that said the one that is left on gets checked before and after I check the pressures, front rubber is good the rear is the one that shows signs of age, both get replaced with the tyre changes, though am going to get metal angle ones next time.

    Would you not have to balance the wheel after this as a metal valve is a lot heavier?

  • @x-man5056
    @x-man5056 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great to add that touch of sealant before install. Save you from going it over again. I would say the 90 degree is excellent for those rims, but I wouldn't use them on a dirt bike, and my street bike has spoke wheels. When I get new tires, I will switch to strait metal ones though, and a touch of sealant.
    I am wondering, since the 90 degree is metal and more mass, does it effect the balance on the wheel/tire assembly? Or unnoticeable?

    • @Moonfleet41

    There's something nice about having an old warhorse that you actually write pertinant information right on the part, like writing the tire pressure right there where you need it. My tractor and lawn mowers are thataway. I write tire pressure on the edges of the service manuals for my things as well so you don't even have to open the book, just look at the edge while the manual is closed up. It's nice to have the pretty ones as well, but the workhorses keep us going, eh?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Couldn't have put it better myself Tommy, the tyre pressures written on I first spotted on the old post office vans lol... and long live the work horse!

  • @justblairthompson

    Just had to replace the valves on my scoot. I managed the whole job without taking the wheels off the bike.
    I used a bundle of clamps, a tyre leaver (to ease off the bead) and some tyre soap/gel
    Just took out the valve stem, clamped the tyres and then gently eased the tyre off the bead.
    Replaced the valve and then remade the bead with my air compressor.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good call Blair, sounds like a win... as you may have noticed, I dropped one side off as I didn't want to clamp the tyre like you did these Bridgestone tyres are specified for Goldwings and they have super heavy duty side walls to carry the weight, they're practically like a run flat, and pinching it in clamps could distort the carcass and damage it... so I planned to fit it with one half levered off, which is why I wire brushed the valve hole first, then noticed all the left over rim sealant on the bead, so just in case it would lead to a future leak, I though I'd pull it all the way off and clean the bead thoroughly!

    I wish Triumph had fitted 90-degree valve stems on my 2019 Scrambler 1200XC. The tubeless rims they spec'ed are beautiful, and I dig the spoke pattern on them, I just don't know why they pulled-up short on the stems. I know it's a minor gripe, but 90-degree stems would have been ideal (on the rear wheel, at least).

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to agree Paul, my 1200XE is also straight, solid stems, and on both rims it's a fiddle to get the infaltor on to them, and yet on the spoke wheel Tigers they fit the 90 degree stems, just doesn't make sense and I will be changing them on the first new set of tyres!

    Good cheap insurance there Del. You know that valve stem would have failed some cold, rainy night on a road with lots of traffic. Looks like terrible winter weather and messy roads are something we have in common on both sides of the Atlantic. I'm not familiar with Gold Wings but it looked like one front caliper was linked to the rear brake and one wasn't. Can this be the case ? Sorry for the rookie question. 😊 You and Penny please stay safe out there on the winter mean streets. Blessings and peace my friends.❤👍👍

    • @Moonfleet41

      Look closely Mark at the metal post the other side of it that it would foul on... the tiny metal post is designed for the original Goldwing fitting that had a plastic clip that stopped it from bending out when it was spinning... so to the left is the only way it can be fitted. It would indeed have been a tad easier the other way, but with the bars turned to full right lock on the side stand the wheel's upright, as you know, so equal access.

    Nice winter job. Now it's perfect for years to come. With fixes like the zero degree valev befor we all know sometimes things work against you - and they stay longer than expected. Have a great start into the weekend, Günter/Nürnberg (still some salt on the roads, so no riding this weekend)

      Oh dear, it looks like winter's not finished with us yet, we still have the salt too, and snow forecast for Wednesday!

    When adding an angled valve to a wheel that did not have one previously, make certain it will not strike the brake caliper as the wheel rotates. I would rather not say how I learned this.

    Yeah, I ditched the rubber valve stems a while ago. I keep the angled ones on hand too, just in case my friends still have the rubber ones on their rims, as I typically assist with their tire changes. Can you guess who has a tire changing machine in this case?. Can't remember the last time I had the old rubber valve stems on my wheels but very happy with the angled ones. They definitely make filling the tire with air easier IMO.

      You're so right, I can't understand why straigh valves are ever fitted and wait, you have a tyre machine... I'm officially jealous! It's top of my list...

      Threw it up on the balance frame and it was cock-on so didn't see a point in videoing it!

    The new valve stems are too shiny. You need to dirty them up a bit 😂

    90deg stems are the best! I upgraded Melly's Speedmaster the last time we changed the tires out and it made all the difference. The back stem was always impossible to get a tire gauge or air hose on. Ride safe!

      Sure thing brother, it's always an issue... wriggling in between discs on the front and messy chains on the rear, I don't understand why all bikes don't use them! Keep safe you two, chat over the weekend bruv, love to the beautiful Melly, D&Pxx

    Could I get this retrospectively fitted to a Harley rim Del if done the way you did it? The rear tyre is an absolute b%$#h to pump air into.
    Great video👏
