Gotta Watch it atleast 2 times a Year That Ish Is Cinematic Genius that Took Him to Another Level To Intentionally make that Movie With all the old cinema mistakes made on purpose while Being Different but the Same BRILLIANT Films are already Hard to Make Then you add Who he is His ethnicity and All the Normal hurdles Made Him ICONIC…..
What I really love about Black Dynamite is that it starts off and you say to yourself, “This spoof/parody is hilarious!”, but about 1/4 of the way through it becomes it’s own thing. LOVE that movie! “Doughnuts don’t wear alligator shoes...”
My favorite part was when the lil girl said, Black Dynamite my mom said that you are my Dad. He replied with a fake smile saying gon on lil girl. That was hilarious to me
Black Dynamite is not only Michael J White’s greatest movie but definitely one of the greatest movies of all time. Its up there with Dont Be A Menace when it comes to parodies, especially if you’re part of the culture.
Black Dynamite is an absolutely BRILLIANT movie. It manages to be a genius parody in a sea of realllllllllllllly bad parodies (parody is incredibly difficult to get correct). It manages to be one of the funniest movies made in decades. And most of all it is endlessly rewatchable. I can dig it!
I know Jai White will probably never read this, but the first time I saw Black Dynamite, there were scenes that made me laugh so hard, it was actually painful. The only other film that ever gave me physical pain (on the other side of the spectrum from sadness) was the first time I saw La Strada. I'm sure Jai White would be flattered to be put along side Fellini. Strangely, the second time I saw Black Dynamite I didn't really laugh too much, so I guess for me, the power was in the first viewing not knowing what was coming, unlike movies like Slap Shot and Spinal Tap, which I know every piece of dialogue after many views, and still laugh. Bad Santa was another film that I found hilarious on first view, but not on the second. That's not meant to demean those films as inferior comedies, just a different type of comedic attack on me for lack of a better term.
He Had A Helluva hill to climb to get Outlaw Johnny Black Done basically because it's a Western...A Genre once prolific...now rare. I hope he complets his Genre Trilogy with his Horror Film & that his studio Builds & Grows.
My fav comedy of all time use to be don’t be a menace but this piece of art work won me over so many classic moments the whole movie from cream corn to bull horn to the anaconda malt liquor break down to Chicago wind scene , dr wu , so many classic lines plus classic characters even the introduction with his brother and hanging up on aunt Mae cause she interrupted his Kung fu and whole movie score been watching this movie since debut and still laugh hard everytime if you don’t you ain’t human definitely Tommy Davidson top three performances “have you farting through silk”
In my opinion. What makes a great movie is that, when it has unforgettable one liners and scenes that is so left field, and it doesn't matter how many times you watch it and still get a kick out of it despite it being a low budget film. To me black dynamite is on that list
Black Dynamite is one of my fave comedies of all time cos it spoofs blaxploitation movies in the best way. However, let us give an honourable mention to Blood and Bone.
Black Dynamite was the most engaging movie experience I ever had except Avengers Infinity War. A small theatre in Burbank, people hyped off the internet trailer, some whites coming in with afros, and 70's gear (respectfully). It was just an energy like everyone came for a going back in time experience they had a hunch they were going to enjoy. Every moment hit in that small theater.
I went into black dynamite thinking 'this might be fun!' and then just enjoyed a bloody well made film! I hope he keeps making awesome movies. Great bloke.
What White acheived with Black Dynamite is the rarest of feats - a perfect movie that also created/introduced a memorable, beloved, larger-than-life character (a la Austin Powers, et al). What BD got right that other efforts at spoofing Blaxploitation have missed is that - in addition to the impeccable comedic acting, clever/hilarious writing that leaves no genre cliche or character type unmined for laughs - the movie also LOOKS Exactly Right: from the lo-fi film look to the drab, low-budget 70s interiors (and even Exteriors), to the cinematography, editing, costumes, blocking, etc. (and, of course, as a side note, it's all set to an excellent, authentic-sounding soundtrack). White, though unfortunately somewhat criminally overlooked thus far, truly has put himself in an elite league with this accomplishment.
Black Dynamite is so slept on. One of my favorite comedies of all time. And had a great cast as well.
It blew me away the first time I saw it.
The cartoon was just as good
I put it up there with Harlem nights 🤓🤓
