Love that you show the difficulty of making anything handmade! You can make 99 of the same thing no problems and bam… everything goes wrong on the next one! Love the finished bowl… I’m not a fan of pink but it is very beautiful! A hint when doing your driveway… 😉 as you are looking out at the road, blow and pile the snow to the right… the plow will just bring back what you have put to the left… less work! Stay safe!
I love exposed inlays! I bet if you did that same Stone in the Navy epoxy it would look like snowflakes in the sky. Cool. I love the shape of the bowl. The movement in the wood reminds me of the sandstone canyons in Southern Utah. So beautiful! The whole thing turned out to be a gorgeous bowl!
Really sorry to see the issue with the yellow epoxy. I hope you are able to get it sorted out. It looks like the tractor is a great help in snow removal. The butternut bowl is absolutely stunning The inlay is really pretty. Loving the gorgeous grains on this bowl. The size is amazing. Great job Jim. Thanks so much for all the hard work you put into your projects and videos. I really enjoy each one. ❤😊❤🇺🇸
Thanks Jim. I love that you actually show us that you are not afraid to show your challenges. Crazy about the bowl though. It is summer in South Africa and currently, lots of areas are having excessive rain and flooding. Be safe
Enjoyed the video. Like that you can share things even when they go wrong. Believe me everyone of us has those days. My grandpa used to tell me you had to me doing something to do something wrong. Only people that are not doing something get it right all the time. The butternut bowl was beautiful. I am a woodcarver and do busts in butternut. I had a logger that for years would set aside butternut logs for me. It has been a long time since I have been able to make a log run. Always enjoy seeing part of your life away from the shop. Grew up moving lots of snow in Wisconsin. Keep on creating your art, enjoy it every week.
Lol, idk why but I like the tractor vids and your vids that show the work you do outside your shop: clearing your drive, moving logs, cutting up your wood, etc. I like your build, and maintenance, vids too (what came to mind was your fridge kiln, in particular). If you'd put up a vid of you and your son tweaking your tractor, I'd have watched it. I like the snow vids probably because I grew up in Hawaii and Southern California (my dad was U.S. Navy and my [now ex-]husband was too) so I never get tired of snow... possibly a sentiment you can't understand at all since you get four feet a year. 😂 To break with stereotypes about such things, I'm not a guy, I'm not a woodturner, but I still enjoy this stuff! 👍
Hey, Jim. What I appreciate about your channel is that you show your mistakes. There are a lot of people who wouldn't even have commented on the yellow platter and showed the Butternut. It shows your honesty and integrity! Thank you for sharing the good and the bad! NB the Butternut looks amazing!!
Talking about tractor experience. An old ford tractor, and an international later on (older than yours I think) were some of my first forays into operating any sort of machinery. I learned to drive and operate them long long before I learned to drive a truck/car. Long before I ever touched anything in a wood shop, a computer or chemistry lab, or anything set of skills I've learned in my lifetime. I remember when I first stated, I would have to jump down onto the clutch with both feet bc I didn't have enough strength and barely weighed enough to depress the clutch as was. ...these days people would be screaming child abuse, but nothing made me happier than driving that tractor around the farm during tobacco season!
THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL AND AWESOME BOWL I THINK IS ONE OF THE BEST BOWLS THAT YOU HAVE MADE SENSE I BEEN WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS NOT SAYING ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THE OTHER ART THAT YOU HAVE DONE BUT THIS BOWL IS FABULOUS MY FRIEND KEEP UP THE AWESOME WOOD TURNING KEEP THE WOOD CHIPS FLYING PEACE BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS I HOPE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND GOD BLESS EVERYONE AND UNTIL THE NEXT VIDEO I HAVE SUCH AN ENJOYMENT WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS IT'S VERY RELAXING TIME TO WELL TAKE CARE AND STAY SAFE MY FRIEND BY FOR NOW
The butternut bowl is beautiful. Sorry the other project didn’t work out. I would have enjoyed seeing it finished. Loved seeing you using your tractor.
Great video as always. I love it when you share your mistakes. I also enjoyed the tractor footage. And speaking of content you don't normally include, I liked seeing the log the wood came from being processed with the chain saw. I like seeing where the wood comes from -- sort of a log-to-bowl, start to finish effect... although that one of course wasn't finished (at least not yet). Thank you!
Looks like a warm summer day yet you have those bulky coveralls on. Seriously though, I appreciate that you show the bad as well as the good. Keep up the great work.
Squee! Magenta! When life gives you lemons (resin), do an inlay! Growing up in Maine, I went to New Brunswick, Canada before I went to another state in the US. My grandmother was born and raised in northern New Brunswick and my grandfather was either born in NB or ME (it was a logging camp situation).
Sorry about the first piece...I think we all have our 'what happened' pieces. I'm glad that you decided to share that example with us...we can all learn from it. That aside, I do like the second piece very much. Wasn't quite sure what you were going for at first but the end product is fabulous. Well done...
The inlay is beautiful! I was amazed how your tools just trimmed the inlay without hesitation! It turned out absolutely gorgeous. Love that wood, and what a lovely fruit bowl that will be!
Wow that grain really popped, it looks great. The rim also turned out fantastic. Nice work !!! As for the failed casting, I've been there done that , just hang it on the wall as is, as a reminder to mix correctly. Love your work 👍😉
The Butternut is really nice wood. Another beauty. Don’t worry about the walnut, we all make mistakes. I think after quite a long time of sitting around, it will eventually work for you. If for some reason it doesn’t work as is, maybe toy could cut it into pieces, keeping as much yellow as you can and make another deign with it (same color or different for additional contrast). Just a thought. The tractor looks fun.
I love the butternut bowl. Thanks for showing the failure as well. It makes me feel.a little better about my disasters, when I see “the pro” occasionally suffers from them as well. Lol al good learning points.
LOL, two times I double poured with part A on my mills. Three years now and it never hardened up. I'm not looking forward to taking it out of the mold, so I keep putting it off. I now put so many As and Bs around the jug one would have to be sleeping to make a mistake except when you forget what you started with, so I always start with A. Also, I found not listening to the radio while making pours is a good idea. lol. Nice turn, Lee
The finished bowl is really nice. At first I wasn’t sure about the colour combo until I saw it from the side at about 28:48 If you determine that the walnut and yellow is a loss, consider hanging on the wall above the resin bench or where you store the resin. While I am absolutely sure you will never make the mistake again, it can always be a conversation piece in future. Especially if you are doing a tutorial in your shop. I appreciate you sharing mistakes with us. It shows your integrity!!!!! Snow removal....fun to watch, hate to do it, thanks for sharing.
Jim, beautiful butternut bowl. I covered a 36 inch long mahogany chris craft RC boat with fiberglass resin 20 years ago. I didn’t get the mix correct and it never did cured many years later I tossed it into my wood stove. It was a very expensive screwup and all my fault. I tried everything to clean it off but you have more real estate than the thin mahogany I had. Best to you.
Hi Jim, I watchec the video where you processed the Butternut bowl. Than I looked through ALL the video titles to find the butternut. 😮Who knew that I would find under Mellow Yellow. I assumed you added that to your collection since you did not mention that it was For Sale. 😊 You did the Butternut justice by using that softer color. Although pink is my favorite color 💓
Love the concept of the exploded ring of wood with epoxy in between the pieces you were going with on the platter. I hope you can save it but if not, try, try again. Also like the exposed rim of epoxy and inlay material instead of having it in a groove.
Good afternoon, Jim. A good look at some of the things encountered with the hobby/ business. I'm guessing the walnut will end a successful piece. The butternut is great. I like the inlay exposed on the sides. Very nice! Tractor and snow clip was perfect.
Lol - I enjoyed the tractor work. Man 4 feet of snow per year. I like snow but that is a little too much for me. Bowl came gorgeous. Luv the inlay. Well done as usual! Thx for sharing.
Love size, shape and character of that gorgeous butternut bowl. Not sure about the bling around the rim, but I do like the stone chips themselves. As to the resin piece, I think if you reduce it in size and keep wiping away the residue, that eventually what is soft will harden. You have a good plan. As to the tractor, at first I thought: overkill for snow removal, but then it seems the tractor is multi-use, so good job!
The inlay is beautiful to my Southern eyes. And I wanted to tell you my method for clearing snow in south central North Carolina: a water hose and well water works beautifully 🥴
wow -- another fantabulous learning experience -- THANK YOU! The butternut bowl is beautiful! Good luck with the the walnut project. I can't wait to see how you resolve this one. I have faith that you will!
Love the inlay. I also enjoyed the snow shots. I live in SC and we've had ice and snow last weekend and yesterday. Probably a whopping 3" of snow and .5" of ice. Our entire state shut down 🤣🤣🤣. Keep that mess where you are. You seem fully prepared for it. 😂
Man, that must have been a huge kick in the pills to see the uncured epoxy ooze out the second you drilled the blow hole! I’m sure you will anyway, but please update us as you carry on with that one. It’s actually a pretty good tactic on your part - create a “cliff hanger” to keep us tuned in for the next episode! It was also fun to watch you clear snow! Thanks for taking me along for the ride again this week!
Good video recovery, beautiful butternut bowl! The inlay looks like rock candy 🤤😹 watching you clear snow made me giggle because how you sped up the video, it looked like lots of fun 🥰
Another beautiful bowl. I especially like the 3 sided inlay. The color is pretty. I’m grew up in Western NY now I live in New Mexico. I don’t miss the snow at all. I enjoyed the clip of you plowing your driveway though.
Your resin ‘failure’ was exactly what happened to me on my first project!! The first inch cured solid and then a gooey mess underneath. I know for sure I measured the correct ratios. I think (for me) the problem was temperature. It was a particularly cold weekend (like we’ve just had) and I couldn’t sustain the right amount of warmth in the ‘She-Shed’. I brought the piece into the house but still after a couple of months it was wet. In fact, it never cured and went in the bin. The Butternut bowl is lovely. I really like the girly colour 🤣
Four feet of snow a year. Holly cow. We only get about 6 inches on average a year in Kansas City area. The inlay looks real nice. I like the way you exposed it on the sides.
Jim, like you discussed on earlier videos alot of things can go wrong but you always explain the failure and let everyone know what can happen . Always a good lesson and you turned out another awesome bowl.
Beautiful Butternut bowl. Love that shine. Maybe chuck the Walnut up between centers face to face and then O.D. to O.D. (hope that makes sense). And let it run for a while. Using centrifugal force to sling excess epoxy out. It will probably make a bit of a mess.. Then toss it up on a shelf out of the way for a while. I would hate to keep tossing money into it if it's gonna end up a loss.
Also, I wanted to ask the first time I saw you do the inlay this way. If you ever have a problem with the inlay popping off. If after you groove out the bowl. What about a few drilled holes in the bottom of the groove. Maybe a half inch deep. Filled with resin. Used as anchor points? Then, your normal procedure. I don't know. I was reading all the comments and it made me think about it again.
Whoops welcome to the world of humanity. It looked so promising, hopefully it can be fixed by time. The butternut is awesome. The grain is so beautiful. I like the inlay as well. I always blame every thing on the snow. We have gotten less so far here in Maine but that will change. 😆 LOL
I love the fact that when you have a problem, you always come up with a solution. Great work
Thank you very much!
The butternut is an awesome bowl, like the inlay, . The lemon yellow may harden up if exposed to heat like your frig, Killen.
Nice job nice save.😎👍👍👍👍
This is exactly what I plan on doing, thanks
I should get to work, but this video just dropped. Work can wait!
Awesome! Thanks 🙏
👍I enjoyed the snow section of the video
Thanks 🙏
I haven't encountered that problem, but I would just leave it for a few months. your inlay looks great 😊
Thanks!
Thanks!
Stay safe!
I would but there’s not much room on that side. Thanks
I like to watch other people deal with snow. As long as I never do. Great save with the butternut bowl. Very nice.
You don’t know what your missing, lol. Thanks 😊

That Butternut was beautiful. My Great-granddaughters would love that ring around the top.😂
Thank you very much!
The grain on the butternut is gorgeous.
It sure is. Thanks!
I Lived where it snowed for 30 years. I moved away. You just reminded me why.
That just might be me someday too, lol. Thanks
Thank for the classic "Inlay Jim" piece. Very attractive.
Thanks for watching!
💙 Your 💙 color 💙 mix 💙 is 💙 perfect 💙 for this bowl💙💙💙
Thank you very much!
Really sorry to see the issue with the yellow epoxy. I hope you are able to get it sorted out. It looks like the tractor is a great help in snow removal. The butternut bowl is absolutely stunning
The inlay is really pretty. Loving the gorgeous grains on this bowl. The size is amazing. Great job Jim. Thanks so much for all the hard work you put into your projects and videos. I really enjoy each one. ❤😊❤🇺🇸
Awesome, thanks for watching!
We like the look when the inlay is exposed on the outside. Keep that style in the future.
Got it, thanks!
Thanks Jim. I love that you actually show us that you are not afraid to show your challenges. Crazy about the bowl though. It is summer in South Africa and currently, lots of areas are having excessive rain and flooding. Be safe
I’ll take the snow over the flooding! Thanks for watching!

It’s a pretty big mistake on my part, haven’t given up on it tho, thanks

NB the Butternut looks amazing!!
I appreciate that! Thanks
BIG OOPS at first! I absolutely love the exposed inlay and the butternut together. Those Karadon chips are my favorite inlay material. AMAZING PIECE!
Thank you very much
I love the exposed rim like that, and of course you can't beat the butternut.
Thanks 🙏

It’s a welcome addition to my inventory. Thanks for watching
I loved the little time lapse cut back! Tractor go wheeeeeee!
Tractor fun! Lots of fun! Lol. Thanks
Love the look of the inlay. We all make mistakes which we can learn from.
Thanks 😊
Love the inlay! Damn autocorrect 🤣😂
Yup, lol. Thanks 😊
So much happened here, it’s like a twofer video. The final bowl is absolutely stunning.
Thanks 😊

You know who the only people are that don’t make mistakes?
We all do, thanks!
First like and first comment. I loved the look on your face at the start. So honest🌞
That’s the look of pain, haha. Thanks 🙏
Afterthought... using the snowblower looks like fun! 🤷♀
When it’s working good, it fun. If it’s not, it’s a pain, lol.
The snow removable looked like fun. I kind of miss the snow from the upper michigan. But I am 73 now so am kind of glad I don,t have to do it anymore.
I’d be happy not to remove it too, lol. Thanks
That butternut bowl turned out beautiful.
Thanks 🙏
The bowl is just beautiful! And I enjoyed the tractor and the snow.
Thanks 😊
Beautiful bowl Jim. Failure is the way we learn somettimes.
Can’t argue that, thanks
The butternut bowl is beautiful. Sorry the other project didn’t work out. I would have enjoyed seeing it finished. Loved seeing you using your tractor.
Thanks 😊
Loved the butternut bowl. Especially the pink!
Thanks 😊
Great video as always. I love it when you share your mistakes. I also enjoyed the tractor footage. Great! Thanks for watching!
Wow, I love this look. I didn’t understand what you meant at first: “Expose the inlay.” But WOW, I love that look!!! This bowl is really gorgeous!!!!
Thank you so much!!
That sucks that the resin didn’t dry. Hopefully you can salvage it! Butternut bowl was very nice! Great job Jim!
Thanks 🙏
Looks like a warm summer day yet you have those bulky coveralls on. Seriously though, I appreciate that you show the bad as well as the good. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching!
So beautiful! I like the inlay being exposed like that. And the color of the resin is great too.
Thanks 😊
Jim,today's butternut salad bowl is beautifil. I would love it on my dining room table.
Sounds great! Its for sale. lol
Squee! Magenta! When life gives you lemons (resin), do an inlay! Growing up in Maine, I went to New Brunswick, Canada before I went to another state in the US. My grandmother was born and raised in northern New Brunswick and my grandfather was either born in NB or ME (it was a logging camp situation).
Definitely lots of logging in NB, I miss that beautiful forest! Thanks 😊
Sorry about the first piece...I think we all have our 'what happened' pieces. I'm glad that you decided to share that example with us...we can all learn from it. That aside, I do like the second piece very much. Wasn't quite sure what you were going for at first but the end product is fabulous. Well done...
Thanks, the plan is to save this piece and I will show it here, Jim.
I like it! It turned out really really nice, I especially like the way the inlay shows on the sides.
Thanks for watching
I love that. I like the inlays you do but trimming the wood back to expose the three sides is awesome
Thanks 🙏
I hope for you that your failed walnut casting will be something, because ist looks nice.
I'm looking forward to it if you show it to us next week.
Don’t know if it will be next week but I will record it and make a video out of it. Thanks
Wicked 👏👏👏👏. Really like that the inlay sides are turned away to expose the depth of the resin. Havent seen that before and it really makes it pop.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Snow tractor was interesting insert. Keep it up. No problem.
Great! Thanks
The inlay is beautiful! I was amazed how your tools just trimmed the inlay without hesitation! It turned out absolutely gorgeous. Love that wood, and what a lovely fruit bowl that will be!
Totally, thanks!
I'm sure that we will se the yellow resin in the future!!!
The international looks like it's a beauty! And the butternut is awesome!
I will try my best to save it! Thanks 🙏
Beautiful bowl. I liked seeing the snow.
Thanks 😊
Wow that grain really popped, it looks great. The rim also turned out fantastic. Nice work !!!
As for the failed casting, I've been there done that , just hang it on the wall as is, as a reminder to mix correctly.
Love your work 👍😉
The plan is to rescue this piece from my inattentive actions, lol. Thanks
Need to remove all the uncured resin before anything can be done with this blank. I still believe I can save it. The tractors a new toy, lol. Thanks
The inlay is lovely. Reminds me of crushed candy canes.
Totally, thanks!
I love the butternut bowl. Thanks for showing the failure as well. It makes me feel.a little better about my disasters, when I see “the pro” occasionally suffers from them as well. Lol al good learning points.
Thanks Ron!
Beautiful bowl Jim, I normally am not a pink girl but I love this one a lot the finish is absolutely beautiful. Blue is my favorite color.
Mine too, thanks
LOL, two times I double poured with part A on my mills. Three years now and it never hardened up. I'm not looking forward to taking it out of the mold, so I keep putting it off. I now put so many As and Bs around the jug one would have to be sleeping to make a mistake except when you forget what you started with, so I always start with A. Also, I found not listening to the radio while making pours is a good idea. lol.
Nice turn,
Lee
Distraction free is the key, lol. Thanks
I really liked the way the top turned out. Once again a beautiful Job.
Thanks 😊
I just found this video and I love the inlay, it compliments the butternut beautifully
Thank you so much!
The finished bowl is really nice. At first I wasn’t sure about the colour combo until I saw it from the side at about 28:48
If you determine that the walnut and yellow is a loss, consider hanging on the wall above the resin bench or where you store the resin.
I still have hopes for this casting but if I can’t sort it out, it will become a wall hanging and a reminder in the shop, thanks 😊
I also love that you share your mistakes - we all learn.
Fingers crossed! Thanks
Gorgeous! Loving the butternut. The inlay color is awesome
Thanks 🙏
i definitely like the pink and white chip inlay!
Thanks 🙏
Hi Jim, I watchec the video where you processed the Butternut bowl. Than I looked through ALL the video titles to find the butternut. 😮Who knew that I would find under Mellow Yellow. That piece is a gift for a family member. Thank you so much!
Love the concept of the exploded ring of wood with epoxy in between the pieces you were going with on the platter. I hope you can save it but if not, try, try again. Also like the exposed rim of epoxy and inlay material instead of having it in a groove.
Me too, thanks Mike
That butternut is nice. I like the inlay is esposed.
Me too, thanks!
Good afternoon, Jim. A good look at some of the things encountered with the hobby/ business. I'm guessing the walnut will end a successful piece. The butternut is great. I like the inlay exposed on the sides. Very nice!
Tractor and snow clip was perfect.

That Lemon piece will make a great recovery vid. 😁
Sure will thanks.
You are the best Jim ~ thanks for sharing the great and not so great associated with your work!
Thanks for watching!
Hope the walnut comes out! This butternut is amazing!
Me too! Thanks
The inlay is beautiful to my Southern eyes. And I wanted to tell you my method for clearing snow in south central North Carolina: a water hose and well water works beautifully 🥴
No fun in that, lol. Thanks
I live the inlay rim! Color is beautiful 😍❤️❤️
Thanks 😊
Beautiful job on the butternut. Sucks on the walnut piece. Hopefully you can save it and we all learn how to fix the problem in the future. Great work
That’s the plan, thanks!
wow -- another fantabulous learning experience -- THANK YOU! The butternut bowl is beautiful! Good luck with the the walnut project. I can't wait to see how you resolve this one. I have faith that you will!
Thank you very much!
I love the shape of this one. Plus this kind of inlay is great!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful Butternut bowl. I love the inlay. Its live & learn with resin...
I totally agree!
Love the inlay on the butternut!
Thanks 😊
Love the inlay. I also enjoyed the snow shots. I live in SC and we've had ice and snow last weekend and yesterday. Probably a whopping 3" of snow and .5" of ice. Our entire state shut down 🤣🤣🤣. Keep that mess where you are. You seem fully prepared for it. 😂

I’m shooting video on it now, really hope to save it! Thanks for watching!
Good video recovery, beautiful butternut bowl! The inlay looks like rock candy 🤤😹 watching you clear snow made me giggle because how you sped up the video, it looked like lots of fun 🥰
If it’s not too cold it’s kind of fun, not so much when it’s -30C lol. Thanks
Another hit right outta the park Jim.... As usual this is beautiful
Thanks 😊
Mistakes happen its called being human don't beat yourself up. I thank you and always pick up a tip or two on your video. OH nice bowl by the way! Lol
Thanks 🙏
Another beautiful bowl. I especially like the 3 sided inlay. The color is pretty. I’m grew up in Western NY now I live in New Mexico. I don’t miss the snow at all. I enjoyed the clip of you plowing your driveway though.
Lol, thanks 😊
I love the color! Really appreciate the quality of your work Jim.
Thanks 😊
Again Jim a good catch up on what happen another beautiful job.
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful Butternut bowl, very nice inlay Jim,
Thanks 🙏

The She-Shed needs more heat, lol. Thanks 😊
thumbs up with the snow removal
Great, thanks!
Very nice - I think this is the first time you've shown taking the sides away from the inlay. Very cool effect.
I also did it on the pistachio and butternut video, thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning
I’ll have to go back and watch that one again.
Love watching you make beautiful pieces
Thanks 😊
This inlay has to be one of coolest, visually I've seen. And this whole piece is truly stunning, Jim. Great job, sorry about the walnut piece. 😊
Thank you very much!
Very pretty really like the pink color
Thanks 😊
Four feet of snow a year. Holly cow. We only get about 6 inches on average a year in Kansas City area. The inlay looks real nice. I like the way you exposed it on the sides.
Thanks, sometimes it’s a lot more, lol.
Jim, like you discussed on earlier videos alot of things can go wrong but you always explain the failure and let everyone know what can happen . Always a good lesson and you turned out another awesome bowl.
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Drilling some holes would probably be a good idea, I’ve trimmed it and put it in the kiln, so it’s a wait and see moment. Thanks
Whoops welcome to the world of humanity. It looked so promising, hopefully it can be fixed by time. The butternut is awesome. The grain is so beautiful. I like the inlay as well. I always blame every thing on the snow. We have gotten less so far here in Maine but that will change. 😆 LOL
New Brunswick has gotten a ton of snow, how have you guys been spared, lol. Thanks
