Different styles, diet, no sun block, other factors (which others correctly lay out in more detail below-I didn’t want to get too long winded lol) tended to age people more than modern day.

My 42 year old wife last year, was mistaken as the older sibling to the rest of my kids. I was at a show in 2020 a month before Covid where a stranger who I was talking to by the bar was telling me a story about someone and says, they were are age, you know, 24…I just nodded and let him continue talking.
I posted most of this as a comment but I'll put it here. People "looked older" because the hormonal and mental profile of that period was better than today. We're supposed to have more testosterone, but we don't. Everyone looks like a baby today. Don't confuse having more testosterone with being old. In any case, testosterone actually lowers with age. Older generations actually aged slower, and which is why they tend to look similar in age to their sons and younger family members. It's funny: first they look older (because of testosterone and other hormones) and then they stay like that for a few decades or more, barely aging. This was the case for Biden by the way. I've seen videos of him in his late 50s where he looks just like this here, but with more lightish brown hair.
You're never going to have the perfect representative. Voting is a little bit like snake handling while playing hot potato, hoping the snake doesn't bite you and bites the other dude instead. To a degree I think people have unrealistic expectations of politicians and don't hold the wider system more accountable including both major corporations and the citizen body. We have crappy a representatives because we put them there. If we want better representatives we have to work on having a more assertive citizen body capable of holding power accountable through the systems which have been set up to allow us to do so. And the longer we wait to do that the more and more those systems are going to be eroded or turned off.

My 42 year old wife last year, was mistaken as the older sibling to the rest of my kids. I was at a show in 2020 a month before Covid where a stranger who I was talking to by the bar was telling me a story about someone and says, they were are age, you know, 24…I just nodded and let him continue talking.
I posted most of this as a comment but I'll put it here. People "looked older" because the hormonal and mental profile of that period was better than today. We're supposed to have more testosterone, but we don't. Everyone looks like a baby today. Don't confuse having more testosterone with being old. In any case, testosterone actually lowers with age.
Older generations actually aged slower, and which is why they tend to look similar in age to their sons and younger family members. It's funny: first they look older (because of testosterone and other hormones) and then they stay like that for a few decades or more, barely aging. This was the case for Biden by the way. I've seen videos of him in his late 50s where he looks just like this here, but with more lightish brown hair.
You're never going to have the perfect representative.
Voting is a little bit like snake handling while playing hot potato, hoping the snake doesn't bite you and bites the other dude instead.
To a degree I think people have unrealistic expectations of politicians and don't hold the wider system more accountable including both major corporations and the citizen body.
We have crappy a representatives because we put them there.
If we want better representatives we have to work on having a more assertive citizen body capable of holding power accountable through the systems which have been set up to allow us to do so. And the longer we wait to do that the more and more those systems are going to be eroded or turned off.
Obeying the law is a pretty low bar to clear though. Millions of people do it every day, including you.
