    Just got my 04 Libby! And I love her. Well I guess I’ve had her for a couple of months now but she still feels brand new to me!

    Hi, I know I'm late to the game, but my understanding is that the jtec engine has a 3 plug ecu harness connector, whereas the later ngc engine has a 4 plug connector. I'm just wondering where in the engine bay to look for this stuff.
    thanks in advance, and thanks for making this video.

      Sorry, I don't know about that connector. I didn't mess with the ECU, but I know it is different and that's why I had to change that reluctance wheel.

    I wonder what the thing in the water jacket was? Maybe part of a cnc machine :) place I worked had sucker hose quick connect on trucks for changing oil. Most of the trucks were at bottom of pan, but Cummins m11 was in side of the pan. Pulled the plug as there was prob still 3 qt in pan, nobody else had ever pulled it before. Out came a 8mm bolt. Must have fallen in when engine was being built, cause nothing ever grenaded on that mill

      I am pretty sure this engine wasn't torn down before so whatever was in the jacket must have been there from the factory. Perhaps it was an option at higher cost.

    I am not sure of all the problems you may face changing ECM and harness. I just decided to rebuild the engine while I was at it on my project and then swapped the reluctor wheel. If you can find the part number of the wheel for both your engines, and they turn out to be the same, then I think you will be fine. If they are different, then you have to decide whether to swap ECM et. al. or change the wheel in your engine.

      Ok thanks for your help.
      Ill check out the engines and see.
      If it is possible I'll report back.
      Thanks for your video now I know what to look for be for I had it swapped.

    Hi.
    So just found your video after purchasing a 03 jeep with blown motor and I have an 05 that has a good one but the body is no good.
    Thought it would be a direct swap.🤣
    It might be I have not checked yet but won't be my luck.
    What do you mean swapping computers?
    I'm guessing I'd have to change the computer and engine harness.
    Just trying to figure out which would be a easier route to take.
    If you have any advice I would appreciate it thank you?

  • @willowraven4239
    @willowraven4239 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    But I would like to know why you wanted to do this exact swap? Is it convenience/availability or performance/benefit?

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a rusted out grey jeep with decent engine and found the green jeep with pretty good body and blown engine. I thought I could just move the engine from the grey jeep over, but because of that stupid reluctance wheel difference, I had to tear the engine down. As usual, the simple project became more complex.

    Good info!!! Was wondering if you know the difference between the 3.7 liberty to the 3.7 grand Cherokee I'm trying to do an engine swap on a 2010 grand Cherokee

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I don't know anything about Grand Cherokee engine. Sometimes you can infer things by looking up parts for both vehicles and see if they have the same part number. It is tedious, but you could check rings, rods, crank, cam, reluctance wheel and see if you get the same part number for both vehicles.
      Best of luck, sorry I couldn't be more help.

      I found this site where you can buy a re-manufactured engine. Take a look, you can enter your year and VIN, see if you get the same engine or not. They do say in the description that this engine was used in Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee. The year selection box covers 2002 to 2010 so it seems like you have a chance.

      I forgot a trick I used. Find a site that sells re-manufactured engines and put in the details for the 2006 and 2007 Jeeps. See if they would sell you the same engine or not. If you try it with a few sites and always get the same result, then you probably can feel confident you have the answer.

    Do you happen to know if the 2006 and 2005 engine block gaskets vary at all?

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I do not. I did this some time ago and have forgotten everything now. Go to Rock Auto, or similar, and look up gasket set for both years and see if they give you the same part number.

    Do you know if the 3.7 in a 06 liberty will fit in a 03 ?
    I cant google it, nothing definitive anyway.

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way I have found is to go to a site where you can buy a rebuilt engine, enter the information for both the 03 and 06 liberty and see if you end up with the same part number. I would do this on a few sites to be sure you get the true story.

    I need to swap an 05 motor to 2004 liberty any tips ? Email?

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My memory of this project is starting to fade, but make sure you check that the reluctance ring is the same in both motors or you will have to tear them down to change (or change computer). I think you safe between 04 and 05, but check to be sure. My 2002 had these band clamps for the CATs and they were miserable to get installed (I should have put CATs on while engine was out). I think that they changed them by 2004, but if not, see if you can leave CATs on engine, or put a pan down to catch the blood from your hands as you try to install them after engine is in.

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My best guess and memory is that it will work, but there is good way for you to check. Go to a couple of sites that sell long blocks. Enter the info for both your vehicles and see if they end up selling you the same long block for each.

I did find some information on liberty`s that said something about every 3 years the motors had changed, so like 2000 to 2003 are the same 2004 to 2007 are the same. not sure if this information is in fact true or not. but people have said it is . wish i could out for sure and not just go by hear say more less .. But thanks for the checking the block out information ..

      @@randaldavis4880 The years you mention sound right to me as having the different reluctor wheel. I didn't check your block info, but I think this in an excellent way for you to be sure about what engines you can swap. If a long block supplier gives you the same engine for both your vehicles, then it would seem you could swap engines w/o worry.

    Can you drop the transmission and engine oil pan to pull the reluctor ring? Do you have to pull the crankshaft to get to the reluctor ring?

    • @JB_WI_Triumph
      @JB_WI_Triumph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to pull the crankshaft to get the ring off. It might not be impossible to do it with the engine in the car, but it would be very hard. Just getting the oil pan off with the engine in place is some work.
