@@scottneil1187 Chainsaw in Spiderman 2. The whole concept of the Evil Book- Necronomicon is ofcourse totaly inspired/copied by the all time legend; H.P. Lovecraft.
No, it's because Rami would put references into the movies (theater posters) for other horror films and they would do the same in return, specifically Nightmare on Elm Street having Evil Dead playing in one movie. The Hills Have Eyes also had a poster in Evil Dead if I remember correctly.

Edit: I said "Meat", but be has a team behind him, so whoever's idea it was, Hunter's or otherwise, 👍👍👍

The scene with mother spitting the eyeball into that guy's mouth and then him choking on it is an homage to Evil Dead 2. The same gag happens in that movie except the person choking on the eyeball doesn't die. I'm kind of surprised that the blatant reference there was overlooked in this video.

I loved the deadite lead performance and lore in this film. Even this version of the Necronomicon itself was really well made visually, and had a great feeling of dread when it was found and opened. The vinyls were a great way to flesh out the history of the book, too. Makes it feel like the book has been doing this to people for a long, long time just like the original Necronomicon in Raimi’s trilogy. I’d love a spin-off film separate from the new modern trilogy (2013,2023,TBD) about the priest on the vinyls or an Earlier era of humankind battling deadites.
Evil dead movies can and certainly have stood on their own without ash but I absolutely woulda loved if in the end credits ash walked up on the docks and shot down the floating demon from the title woulda been genius imo. Also the last kid not dying made sense to me while it may not have been relayed well the demon would definitely wanna get the sister to come back cause she woulda escaped just fine otherwise
I’ve been hearing that this movie is actually pretty good so I am really looking forward to it I love evil dead but even more so I love genuine terrifying horror which that’s hard to come by these days
I'd say that the movie isn't really that scary, so I wouldn't go into it thinking you are gonna get super spooked. It's not slapstick like Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness, but I'd say it's more of a demonic slasher movie. There are parts that are genuinely pretty creepy, but for me the main draw of the movie was seeing demons kill people in gruesome ways.
@@Yakay672 Yeah it was more of a fun horror film than a “terrifying” one. And I fucking love that tone, I actually hope the next film is even wackier and over the top, like Evil Dead 2. I enjoyed this WAAAY more than 2013, which was 100% horror.

I mean honestly one of the dumbest ones that could've been foreshadowed was when the little girl stuck a baby head over stake. "Oh wow I sure hope that isn't used as a weapon for anything"
Something I noticed in this film, that I think it is a quote to the previous 2013 and Raimi's original, are the eyes of the possessed people, I mean, the family, cause, the mother has light-blue-kind-pale creepy irises, wich is new, but with the older daughter, she has orange eyes, which were used in the 2013 remake, and the son has pale, white eyes, which were used in the original. Idk if they thought about it in that way, but if they did, I think that's pretty clever, a nice reference to the old movies to add to the other hundreds.
I was pleasantly surprised by the deadites in this movie and how gruesome they can get. The monster/amalgamation at the end was really cool to see. I loved the special effects with the kills too. Solid 8.5/10 for me

@@SoullessKuriboh I respectfully disagree and posit that the quality of a movie is perhaps dependent upon more than one's ability to predict the course of its story. I appreciate and respect your opinion! Also - movie is called "Drag me to hell" so it kinda gives away the ending in the title
Drag Me to Hell hits all the tropes that Sam is famous for. I like it very much. Also, it highlights the consequences of greed, personal aggrandizement and the lack of compassion for personal gain. Its a good, fun film.
It definitely seemed to have a lot more modern horror reflected onto it. It’s a very low possibility but I personally felt that when Ellie was banging her head against the door and crawling on the walls it reminded me very much of hereditary. I know it probably wasn’t but that’s what my mind came too.
This is actually a pretty big trope in possession or demonic movies. I think it might have to do with showing that they are otherworldly beings or something.
and thats why the movie is scary and it actually has tension, these new characters have no idea what’s happening and that makes it harder for them to defeat it rather than ash just destroying them in 30 seconds
Trying something that’s already been done multiple times and FAILED expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Yes unicorns do exist but it’s still not a good idea
They mentioned the 3 books from army of darkness, a cheap but effective way to make the Bruce Campbell, Jane Levy, and this most recent evil Dead all coexist in the same universe but a 1 of 3 of the books are the cause.

Not gonna lie, them not even mentioning that one of them is trans made me care about them more as a person and character rather than me seeing them fulfilling a requirement. @@luigiwiiUU it's a joke because Hunter has been comparing a bunch of movies, for the last few months, with Puss in Boots 2, after seeing it in theaters, and, apparently, having a really good time
I definitely noticed it was very loud😭I saw it in theaters with my partner and usually I don’t have an issue with the loudness of movies but there were so many jump scares that were so loud that I spent the entire movie with one earbud in and the other ear pressed against my partners shoulder to try and soften the sound simply because it was so loud
I'm so glad you mentioned the movie seemed a bit dark. I saw it at the drive in and I thought I crazy, felt like I missed so much cause I couldn't see. These movie reviews are my favourite series !
I really liked the movie and I thought it did continue on the story, actually. The priest mentions "3 books" - the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis we know as one of them by name from the previous movie, but Army of Darkness had 3 present. Now we've seen the Naturum Demonto (which was what they called it in Evil Dead 1, renamed later and in the "remake" it was explicitly called that to start). You also saw that book had a ton more additions to it and killing the creatures actually seemed impossible (as the priest said). My only complaint was 16+ is allowed where I live and teenagers wouldn't shut tf up during the tense parts of the movie 👴
My theater experience was also kind of ruined by people not shutting the fuck up during scenes that were meant to be tense, no idea if they were teenagers or not though
This movie wasn't anything groundbreaking. But the thing I love about the movie is how self-aware it is. It doesn't try to get you with any cheap jump scares at all and is pretty straight to the point from the opening sequence. Around the 3rd quarter of the movie it does set it's foot off the gas and gets a little dull, and even the ending sequence was a bit of a let down I felt after everything that went on until then. All in all it was a good movie, I'd rate it a 7/10.
It's literally filled with cheap jump scares😂😂😂 it wasn't terrible tho but it wasn't that good tbh, take that great actress that plays the possessed mom it fucking sucks, she is the only thing that sells any cookies for this movie

I enjoyed the movie and I plan to see it again.
For an Evil Dead movie, it does its job well enough. I like the new setting with the apartment and the sound design and gore is on point. I just think that the previous film had the stronger plot and characters.
Dude, I think you need to rewatch the 2013 one. I just did, and I found Rise a gazillion times more fun and enjoyable (like Evil Dead should be). 2013 is a solid horror film, but it was just 100% edgy, miserable, joyless horror, and every character was bland as shit and hated each other. The acting was also atrocious except for Mia.
@@tricko8000 I think the serious tone kinda fits the 2013 movie. As a gritty reboot of the original Evil Dead film, it does its job well and the acting was pretty good (although Mia was the breakout character). I think the only character I actually had a problem with was Eric because he was the one that read the book yet acted like a humongous dick to David by calling him a coward for not wanting to kill her own sister, ignoring that this was a problem HE caused.
Rise is better because it actually tried new things and the deadites are much more faithful to the originals. The 2013 movie had boring ass deadites that may as well have been zombies instead

I really loved that one of the characters actually said “we’re watching the all the Freddy movies” as a direct nod to new line cinemas claim to fame series. It was just a cute inside horror fan moment that made me smile. All the call backs felt like it came from the heart and not just as fan service.
It's a running gag in all the evil dead films, Freddy's glove is in 2, the hills have eyes poster in 1, Craven and Raimi referenced each others work in their films all the time.
I didn't feel like the nods had heart at all. They felt cheap.

No, it's because Rami would put references into the movies (theater posters) for other horror films and they would do the same in return, specifically Nightmare on Elm Street having Evil Dead playing in one movie.
The Hills Have Eyes also had a poster in Evil Dead if I remember correctly.

I gotta say, the best detail Meat adds to this video is that during the sponsor segment, he includes the little yellow duration bar for the whole part. I like little editing details like that. It's courteous to the viewer, it lines up aesthetically with youtube's ad player, and lets you know exactly what part of the video is sponsored content. Good stuff, does not go unappreciated.

There would only be one evil dead movie if ash wasn't in it. Dude carried the movies and show
I think the comedic attempts are a great way to lower tension before continuing the wild ride, as well as serving as homage to the original trilogy.
The possession scene for the mom in the elevator was really cool.

My theater experience was also kind of ruined by people not shutting the fuck up during scenes that were meant to be tense, no idea if they were teenagers or not though
no army of darkness had one. 2 were decoys. 3 is new which just creates more possibilities
