Wow. Fact Hunt has really given me new perspective on the early years of video games. No wonder the market crashed in the early 80s. The industry was a mess.
In 2001, a game was released for the PC called "Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor" that wiped the entire 0 sector off your hard drive if you uninstalled it. The game was not recalled, but instead a "1.1" patch was released making it uninstallable. What's ironic is future updates of the game (1.2, 1.4, etc.) were not safe to uninstall so in order to uninstall it, you had to actually load up version 1.1 to uninstall it.
regarding The Guy Game: published by TopHeavy Studios, its a game about seeing 'Top-Heavy Women', if you catch my drift... ...i figured since the Guru missed his chance at making this connection, id make it myself...shame that a Minor losing her Top led to such Heavy repercussions (BAM! with a Bonus Pun for ya...now who else is watching this 3-year-old video to appreciate my humor??)
I feel like she should have told them she was 17 because if some random dude in his 30 ask to show your boobs for TV or anything and you're under 18 common sense should be to say no use she was under age drinking and not thinking
The only other thing that is shocking about The Guy Game was that the person who made it was once the head of Retro Studios and during the phase of releasing the first Metroid Prime game out
underaged girl takes her top off in front of a camera, believing that the footage will be aired on tv. . . then later sues them because the footage ended up in a video game instead, claiming that it is technically "child pornography " . . . . . . . but if it aired on tv, wouldn't that have been even worse?
so technically speaking... ign reviewed child porn honestly im surprised there wasnt some overreaction where anyone who owned and reviewed the game wasnt raided by the cops
I love how that main character sprite in the Double Dragon segment looks like it's from a completely different game due to how clear and detailed it is to literally every other sprite.
A fun little "bug" I encountered a half dozen times was with the DS Age of Empires. Not sure if they ever recalled it, but if your profile name on your DS was 3 letters or less, when the game auto saved it completely bricked the cartridge, never to work again. I made countless trips to Game Stop to exchange it, they had no clue what was wrong with the game. Finally I called Majesco directly and they explained the issue.
When a system is "Bricked," it stops working altogether, and repair is difficult, if possible; in essence, it becomes like a brick, unable to play games and more useful for weighing down paper.
There's also "Mario Party 8" for the Wii, which in the UK was recalled due to Kamek saying "spastic" in his spell, which in UK terms is an offensive term. Nintendo later released a version of the game with "erratic" replacing it.
Taito copyrighted the word "sonic" for japanese arcades when they made sonic blast man. That's why sega used the term "segasonic" in their arcade games.
the person who not only installed all of their games into a single folder, without subfolders, but installed all of their games directly onto the C: drive is a man to be feared
5:05 I don't think I could put into words *_JUST HOW POPULAR_* Sonic Blast Man was back in the mid-90's at my local arcade. People playing the game would be taking bets and people watching them would be placing bets, I kid you not.
Larry, will you please start putting the list of games you use in your intro into the video descriptions? some of them look very fun to play, but it's hard to track them and the format down from only a few seconds of footage!
Oddly enough, I remember seeing used copies of The Guy Game still selling in some GameStops even after it was banned. I guess those ones didn't get the memo.
Oni was seriously underrated. I loved the game, it kinda got cyberpunk (the genre) pretty right. I have fond memories of playing it. I think I still got the original disc somewhere.
Tried to screen shot the guy at 0:30 to send his weird bald face to a friend, but somehow ended up with a screen shot of a random Asian man. I was Insanely confused. Figured out that the picture flashed on the screen for a split second, and I happened to accidentally screen cap right that second.
4:32 Larry: "...but this time, include anew instruction manual apologizing for how shit the game was!" me: *reads 'apology', sees it contains no apology* Larry: "You couldn't make it up!" me: "Well, apparently, you could."
Seconded. "I did some character art for Oni that came out wrong" is still not at all bad. Just to have been some small part of the process of a company which, at the time, seems to have been a lot more awesome than the strange, shambling, barely awake creature stumbling around wearing the same name tag these days. But I digress.
Another strange reason for being recalled comes from Little Big Planet. How could that be? It's so cutesy, so wholesome, so fluffy, it's a wonder why one w-it had a song with lyrics from the Quran. (**Cha-Ching!** Recalled for having some religious lyrics) It wasn't the first game that had to be changed because of segments from the Muslim Bible, but I brought that game up in particular because it's the most strange case of this. Little Big Planet of all things telling us the inevitability of death. That would be more fitting for a Mario Maker level. We all know how stupid hard those are.
That music at the beginning is from Ninja Warriors! I will never forget that tune from the arcade it was the most advanced song I had ever heard at the time. I had a Sega Genesis/Sega CD and an Snes at the time. I wanted that game to be released on my Genesis/Sega CD for obvious reasons. Larry, I had no idea you did the art for Oni. I bought that game on a whim for my PS2 after playing through Halo on my Xbox. I loved it and too be honest, the art was the best thing about Oni. It was extremely stylish when it released and shows you have talent my friend. Not that I did not enjoy its gameplay it was pretty good if not hard as nails at times. Not only do you make amazing content on TH-cam but you truly worked on a game that stood out from the pack. No one was making artwork on games like that back then.
Sonic Blast Man was really fun, they had one at my local arcade. It always was hilarious to watch chavs try to intimidate their peers into declaring them their true Alpha by punching their way through a videogame.
Scrolled through comments to get a look at some other trivia other viewers might've seen, and instead I see relatively newer comments, *with* replies from Larry. Nice to see good 'ol Larry is thorough in his research and community enough to go back and keep interacting with a 6 year old vid; good on you, mate!
Funny that in the US 17 is considered child porn. But in Australia, some states, 16 is legal, you can drink at 18, and yet we have the most banned and censored games than anywhere else in the world. What a country...
baahahaha subtle insert of Keiji Inafune at 0:30 the mighty no. 9 does bring Peter Molyneux vibes indeed. oh and it's good to see IGN hasn't changed much...
I actually had Myth 2: Soulblighter! The level editor was... A little too in-depth and free. I accidentally messed up the tutorial level, on the disc itself, making the game unplayable. XD So many dwarf heads shooting out of barrels though lol
I am saddened there is no footage of Sqweek actually being foul-mouthed in the video. You have my commendations for the artwork on Oni. I much prefer how the main character looks in the still images over the animated clips.
To the credit of the developers of "The Guy Game" - They did check I.D.s to make sure all the girls were of legal age, however the 17 year old in question presented them with a FAKE ID.... For this reason, and this reason alone, no charges were ever filed.
The Guy Game wasn't the only game ever recalled for child pornography. The same fate is shared by atleast one other game, Rule of Rose. In the case of Rule of Rose the claim was actually false, though, some idiots in the Italian government had brought it up, without ever playing the game. However, the publishers decided to pull the entire European release. Some copies still made it to the shelves, they sell for around 500 Euros on ebay these days.
Rule of rose is an excellent and quite difficult survival horror title. This put a bad stigma to a rather deep and dark game. Yes, it had very deep and dark themes, but due to this it became a poorly remembered yet highly expensive collectors gem for ps2. Ludicrously so by ps2 standards, emulation is pretty much the best option.
No worries at all. Its hard to find quality TH-camrs who love and remember the days of ZX Spectrums... Ocean... and the nostalgia that makes me tick :) (Plus your a Brit and that indeed is even more rare on here!)

IGN rated the Guy Game .1 lower than Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. But in all fairness, the Guy Game contained significantly less water, so that must have got it most of it's points.
holy fuck. Sonic Blast man I dont know if it was exactly that game, but I visited an arcade in London England 6 or 7 years ago, and when I while playing air hockey with someone I noticed in the corner of my eye, someone winding up for a giant haymaker on one of those punching games, and the bar never gave way, essentially the guy just hauled off and punched a metal pole. One of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
i payed a version of sonic blast man in the philipines that was a beatum up in 2007 when i was around 8 it also had the punching machine one next to it one of my friends thought it would be funny to give it a running headbutt because he dident know how hard it was and before i could stop him he gave himself a black eye because he hit at a weird angle...
Love the jab at the E.T. Atari documentary. I found it just as pretentious as you did. Although, I nearly beat that game when it came out and was too young to realize how bad it really was lol.
What? Did they actually say Sonic wasn't good? I mean, I'm not the target audience of Sonic (because I have horrible reflexes) but even I can tell that they are well-made games. (Excluding certain Sonic games that will be left to the discretion of the reader.)
so the first thing to do there was actually to start a court case about video games being art, and by extension to get a court argument about whether flashing could be considered art (since you can appear nude at any age in a piece of art) and quietly check out every young lady's social media, because people actually don't tend to lie much on the about page of facebook for silly little things like age, also, morally ambiguous as lying about the way in which these ladies would appear on TV, the woman in question handed them a fake I.D. she was using at the time, which is where they got her age, if I were them I would press charges about false advertising, or maybe just... something, I hope she had to pay somebody out the ass for underage drinking, and the rest of the shit she did
I think there was a CSI PC game that got yanked because it contained the actual security footage of James Bulger's abduction. (If not the full video, then at least a still.)
Good episode. I would've thought these would be stupid reasons, but they are legit. Who knew "Skweek" would be the first game to unintentionally include an F-Bomb. Looking at the "Double Dragon" game on the Commodore 64, I think it could stand as a prime example of "Graphics don't make the game". So IGN gave "The Guy Game" a 7.7 huh. A game that's essentially "Girls Gone Wild:The Game" and considered to be one of the worst video games of all time gets a high rating in the same way they gave "Ghost Rider:Spirit of Vengeance" an 8.0. What kind of drugs were IGN on to do that?
@@solarstrike33 Not exactly. Colleges have been getting more and more "woke" in all fields including video game designs. Remember: China has just limited time to 90 minutes per day for kids under 18, so their market isn't as big as America's is.
@@ManekiNeko1972 That video game regulation only happened _very_ recently and devs got the big steppy. Before that, you'd be surprised how often they've been bending backwards to break into China.
I love how the SNES version of Sonic Blast Man is so far removed from the arcade version it may as well have a different name. And yet, they still maintained the fact that Sonic Blast Man looks fucking ridiculous.
Sonic Blastman was a staple of our annual traveling carnival/funfair in my hometown, until 2005 or so, then they retired the poor machine. It always was the cushion version of the machine we had though. It was always fun watching the grownups go at it when I was little.
My local theme park had one, but some scumbag rupped the padding off it and managment thought it was still fine to punch a bare metal pole with the standard punching gloves. big bistake.
Guru Larry, you don't look egotistical when you insert yourself in the videos. you made the videos and you're the one conveying the information to us. I think I speak for most of us when I say we appreciate your work and your opinions. how else am I going to learn about obscure mainly European released computer games? I didn't even know what an Amiga was until I found your Channel.
Used to love Sonic Blast Man. I was terrible at it, being that I was a weakling of a kid (and not much better these days lol), but I still loved playing it.
Larry Bundy Jr back with old games like that when I was young I put the game either where the game wanted or onto the desktop so I have no clue what the hell that thing could have done
I remember seeing one of those sonic blast man machines at an arcade in a theme park. Noone used the glove and some people even kicked it. You could also photograph yourself or someone else and have it copypasted over the villains head.

Me : So could you repeat your opinion on the child pornography game you reviewed 7.7 ?
You know ? "The guy game".
What? Did they actually say Sonic wasn't good? I mean, I'm not the target audience of Sonic (because I have horrible reflexes) but even I can tell that they are well-made games. (Excluding certain Sonic games that will be left to the discretion of the reader.)
Yeah, on a interview they always say something bullshit, kingdom hearth got the same BS.
David lechevalier Who trusts IGN for solid reviews? They hate games they suck at unless it's a shit FPS or realistic game or some old retro game.
so the first thing to do there was actually to start a court case about video games being art, and by extension to get a court argument about whether flashing could be considered art (since you can appear nude at any age in a piece of art) and quietly check out every young lady's social media, because people actually don't tend to lie much on the about page of facebook for silly little things like age, also, morally ambiguous as lying about the way in which these ladies would appear on TV, the woman in question handed them a fake I.D. she was using at the time, which is where they got her age, if I were them I would press charges about false advertising, or maybe just... something, I hope she had to pay somebody out the ass for underage drinking, and the rest of the shit she did
Also, they gave Sonic Pocket Adventure of all Sonic games of 10/10.
7.7 by IGN?
Where they drunk, high or both?
My guess is they were IGN.
It used to be okay to like games that had boobs in them. Then the politically correct machine took over.
@@ManekiNeko1972 Or rather, China took over - they just appear to be appeasing demands just so they can get past Chinese censors.
You worked the art for Oni?!? That's awesome! I like loved Oni! seriously underrated PS2 darling
IGN gave The Guy Game a 7.7 fam.
A *7.7*
Saltine 7.7?!!!
That's more than Imagine Party Babyz!
I love how the SNES version of Sonic Blast Man is so far removed from the arcade version it may as well have a different name.
And yet, they still maintained the fact that Sonic Blast Man looks fucking ridiculous.
My BS meter located on my forehead is off the charts!
Ed Kolis ?
I have no idea what I was saying back then... :P
CasaiAgicap ProJared's review of Sonic Blast Man 2 makes fun of that in a video segment, wearing stuff you would find in an attic.
MapleshadeDarkRay_YT I know
I actually bought the Bagoom t-shirt he made from it, because it's amazing.
6:17 I noticed that 'Sonic Blast Man' has a radio dish on his forehead with 'B S' written on it. lol
Saw the Guy game at a local video game store recently.
Nelson Harrington Did you buy it?
Should probably tell the seller it's not legal to sell
Must've been there for years
N° 2: "The guy game"
"Uuuh, I'm afraid I know where this is going..."
_Two minutes later_
"NO, I DIDN'T %&)"%ING KNOW! GODDAMMIT!!!"😰
I didnt know larry did the art for Oni. *remembers that one image with Konoko's armor torn to shreds*. Larry you dog!
They had it at the local amusement park, I remember it well.
Guru Larry,
you don't look egotistical when you insert yourself in the videos. you made the videos and you're the one conveying the information to us. I think I speak for most of us when I say we appreciate your work and your opinions. how else am I going to learn about obscure mainly European released computer games? I didn't even know what an Amiga was until I found your Channel.
He sure loves to hate on Monlyneux, doesn't he? Just like we all do love to hate on Todd nowadays...
Each era has it's villains.
I await the day Larry publishes "Seven Reasons I Hate Peter Molyneux"
No one ever gets arrested for owning The Guy Game, in fact, you can easily buy it on eBay or download a ROM.
Used to love Sonic Blast Man. I was terrible at it, being that I was a weakling of a kid (and not much better these days lol), but I still loved playing it.
Ok to be fair, you can't blame all of Destiny's major mistakes on Bungie, you can blame most of those on Activision
I bought Myth II in 2001, and hated it. Had no clue it could have whipped my Pentium 2 clean!
Did you save games in a certain folder back then? You'd have to be insane to save it to the root C: drive anyway.
No because I'm a competent moron at worst!
Larry Bundy Jr back with old games like that when I was young I put the game either where the game wanted or onto the desktop so I have no clue what the hell that thing could have done
You did some artwork on Oni? Damn! That's a great reason to replay it after all these years.
Boy, Larry was aggressive in 2016.
You did the art for Oni? i have to admit even though the controls were hard to learn, I liked Oni!
If you play the game now, it's standard console FPS controls. but the game was way ahead of its time in that respect.
@@Larry And what if we're playing the PC version?
I'm a huge Myth fan but I've never heard that recall story before, fascinating!
I remember seeing one of those sonic blast man machines at an arcade in a theme park. Noone used the glove and some people even kicked it.
You could also photograph yourself or someone else and have it copypasted over the villains head.
Oh man I cant wait to cyberpunk on an updated version of this video!
