    I wish the FTC would make it mandatory for reps to state, "There is a 99% chance you will not make any money. You may even lose money. I am asking you to join me so that my chance of earning might be increased." It should be mandatory that this statement is verbalized and or quoted in every video or social media post they make regarding their "business". And it should be mandatory that it must be stated at a slow pace or in text that is legible and remains on the screen long enough to be read clearly.

      @bluejenn30 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      This is the best idea I have ever heard. It should be the first thing that they have to say. So many vulnerable people would save a lot of time if they had heard these words first. Hell, they should have to have a signed copy of the statement saying they understand this information and have been given a copy of the earning disclosure statement.

      @@bluejenn30 They should have to sign something saying they were given a copy of the income disclosure statement AND that it was adequately explained to them imo. That way the huns will have to be educated on how the statement works and what it indicates so they can explain it to others...and maybe that will lead to a dramatic decrease in mlm reps as well as in new recruits ;D

      That's why its a legal pyramid scheme. The money is in recruiting, the products are just the loophole that keeps the government off their back.
      Also keep in mind that these income disclosures don't include the money that these dingbats spent to keep their rank every month. Its easy to move up in rank when you sign up everyone and your grandma, but its not sustainable, and thats how you end up spending more than what you get paid, never mind in some cases now you're stuck with a car payment.
      There was an ex MLM'r who said that she was spending well over $1000 a month just to keep her rank and also keep her $500 car "bonus"coming.
      So ya , even the people "who are make money" according to the income disclosure, they're actually making less, unless they're up in the top 1%.
      The higher you get to the top of the pyramid the quicker you find out that you're scamming people since the only money coming in is from recruiting, the only suckers buying the majority of the product are the recruits, it's diabolical actually. You gotta have no morals to stay in these MLM cults, I'd just cut my loses once I figured out that I was scammed.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but regarding the whole "Inactive market partners bring down the averages!" argument against income discourse statement: Yes, that would be true for the overall average, which you mentioned at the top of the review, but otherwise, the rest of numbers are STILL broken down by rank, and those numbers are shit too, until you get to the very tippy-top! Any rank above the first rank is an indicator that the person is "working their business" to some extant, since ranking up entails recruitment AND sales.
    Also, IMO, I have always thought that the argument that a huge number of market partners, in this case 39% or almost 116,451 people, "only signed up for discount", simply STRAINS CREDULITY.

    I CLICKED SO FAST (congrats on 40k and hope you are feeling better or are on the mend!)
    Oh my goodness .... i feel so bad for all the people working themselves physically and mentally to the ground for this... and then even when not even earning anything CLOSE to minimum wage, they're pressed to express gratitude at this "opportunity" to continue recruiting and enriching their up-lines at the cost of their own well being
    Hoping more MPs escape this sooner than later! They deserve so much better

  • @jpt610

    Thank you for this! At the bottom of the statement, it says 0.45% of the 298,952 Market Partners participated in MONAT’s Motor Club. I wonder if the 298,952 includes inactive MPs as well. Either way, they have lost a lot of MPs because they used to have 400,000 at one point.

    I was worried that 2021 would have been a really good year for them and would help them scam people because things would look good for them in 2021 but I was both surprised and happy to see that the yearly earnings was still dog poop when you compare before covi* to during when they had so many people joining that scam of theirs. Such a hot mess. Thanks for sharing.

    Firstly, THANK YOU, for once again taking the time to put together such logical, thoughtful information to help people avoid getting caught in MLM schemes. Two questions:
    1) Why do the companies even put out income statements? Anyone taking the time to read and interrupt can see that it's not a "good opportunity?" So why do MLMs who are otherwise so strategic about their efforts to get and keep people release these at all?
    2) How do we know that the numbers they present in these are even accurate? I mean they do lie about the "great opportunity?"
    Thank you for your thoughts if you have a moment to weigh in and I completely understand if you don't. Please keep up the amazing content.

    • @HannahAlonzo
      @HannahAlonzo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Hey! Great questions! Here's my speculations:
      1. Some companies still may choose to put out an IDS (even though they're not required to) because it shows the earning potential of the company. Seeing those insanely large incomes in the top ranks is very enticing. People may be tempted to think "Oh my gosh, the top rank makes over a million dollars!" and perhaps believe that they can defy the odds and make it to those top ranks. Everyone wants to believe they are capable of something extraordinary and that they are the exception to the rule. For people who don't fully know how these business models operate, seeing the earning potential could entice them to join. Especially because they are falsely made to believe that people make it to the top based on "hard work".
      2. Truthfully, I'm not sure how we know that they're accurate. That's a great question! I would assume the data would have to be verified by an outside source... but with how shady these companies are, I also wouldn't be surprised if there was no true way to verify their validity.

    One of the things that I am hoping for with this public FTC commentary is that every single direct sales/multi level marketing/network selling company will be required to provide an income disclosure statement every single year by the end of the 1st quarter of the year (so by the end of March) and that they will have to create one that is based only on the active distributors/sellers and then, if they choose to, they can create an additional 1 that also includes the inactive people.

    It's so wild to me that less than half a percent make more than they would working a minimum wage job. Only MM and above have a Median Annual Gross Earnings above the federal minimum wage of $15.55/hr x 40/hr/week x 52 week/yr. And the Median No. of Months to Achieve Rank of MM is 12. So after a year, there's a chance you might make more than minimum wage.

    Thank you for showing the actual numbers, those videos are always so dreadful. Especially when you consider that even the top 1% doesn't make ends meet. I mean, in the US, it's my understanding that low 5 figures is still not a living wage yearly. And the bottom 98% you highlighted still cuts out 3 ranks that make at best 17k a year. Which is barely more than 1k a month. In France where I live, this is less than minimum wage for a 35h/week job. Especially since it doesn't take into account expenses, which aren't just the mandatory pack to buy to join in, but also they buy each product before selling them. So they make a lot less than what is shown here. So dreadful what those pyramid schemes do to people.

    If 39% of 'MP's were inactive that means 61% were. If you take the median annual income and readjust for just that 61% it gives $1362.30 for a full year income. (Assuming I've not overlooked anything)
    And I'm pretty sure that doesn't take into account the massive amounts of spending on products, 'free gifts' for new sign ups and other costs.
    Not only that we all know the higher earners skew that average by there being so few of them.
    That's more than I thought but, boy, that's really not worth alienating your loved ones, spending all your time finding prospects, and all that other 'grifting'. And this is over all ranks!

      Basically somebody could have had a commission sale in January and not had a single commission sale for the rest of the year and on the Come disclosure statement for that year they will be included as an active member/distributor because they earned commissions at least one point in time during that year.

    • @DancingSomnium
      @DancingSomnium 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simultaneously, this also means that all the inactive distributors are broken up among people who have joined at any point in the year and not had a commission sale.. Including those who joined towards the last couple of months of the year because they are told and convinced that they have an opportunity to earn to earn an amazing amount of holiday spending money to be able to afford to get their kids or their family presents.

    Hannah, I've been mostly ignoring social media, including anti MLM content, ever since my baby (my sweet sweet, loving dog) passed away this Sunday, just writing this breaks my heart all over again, but this is a subject I've been waiting for a while and honestly didn't even think they would disclose it... thank you in advance for hopefully make me laugh for a little while.

    Hi Hannah, since I have started watching antimlm around 2014 I think, but never got into touch with anyone that I was in contact with, just my mother who has always been "special", at least to me, I just wonder if you or anyone in the comments noticed recently that adsense is more about it than ever before (maybe just my country in central Europe). It is in my mother tongue, of course, and I don`t even know how I could approach anyone about this being harmful. Maybe there is some FB group or other forum raising awareness? I think there is enough pain around as it is, nothing else needed.

    I was a Monat MP I joined at the end of 2019, I made some money but not enough to quit my day job. It’s definitely a pyramid scheme, I quit being a mp back in November of 2021. This company is definitely crumbling.

    Or it could be that the lower parts of the 1% are leaving. Like you said in other videos, those ranks are difficult to maintain because the only barely make enough to offset the costs. This would also explain why the tip is making more because they don’t have to divide the money as much.

    MLMs are literally a gamble based on when you got into the company. They should be forced to operate with a gambling license per state at the very least.

    I find it interesting how this statement is included in here. Which is a play on words to cover up a lie. "Success with MONAT Global results only from successful sales efforts, which require hard work, diligence, skill, persistence, competence, and leadership. Your success will depend upon how well you exercise these qualities." Success is a result of recruitment but they hide it with their leadership statement. But honestly, it is a straight-up lie because you MUST recruit to make higher ranks and more money regardless of if your recruit makes sales or not. IN no real company does the success of a sales job RELY on leadership. Being a successful salesperson and a leader are different skills.

    To figure out the average of those that earn $$ all you have to do is 1-0.41, if 41% is not active, and then multiple the original average value by 1.59 to account for the active members.

    Do you know if Monat also had price increases between 2020 and 2021? Because due to inflation, their buying power got lower across the Board. Wondering if that is also true specifically for the Monat products as well.

      @HannahAlonzo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is this not the same model of every big business and corporation in America? The top percent get paid the most and the people at the bottom makes pennies compared to them? I understand the idea of a pyramid scheme but it seems like this is not limited to just MLMs.
