This is EXACTLY what happened to me! I helped a friend out and got locked into an autoship program I didn’t even know existed. When i got billed again, I called and argued my way out of it. They said they “had to charge me a cancellation fee” and I said no you don’t and you better not. They finally let me out of it without a fee and without any more charges. Infuriating!!
Terminating Angelique was the biggest mistake Monat could have made for a number of reasons. One of those reasons is that they put a spotlight on their policies and procedures, giving ammunition to all of us out here who want to see some accountability. Thanks for that, Monat. LOL

I actually just left my last company who wouldn't let me work from home for a new one that lets me be fully remote. Guaranteed paycheck, good benefits, well paid. It has done SO much for my work/life balance and just overall happiness. You definitely don't need to join an MLM to have that kind of life.
I've always associated mystery bags with old products that a company just wants to get rid of (especially with makeup) but the fact that they showed off the product and it was a different color! Did they not remember??? I can't. I'm dying 🤣
Love your videos. I recently got a Amway rep kicked out of a store. :) She was selling a "healing cream" to a disabled woman telling her the cream could cure her issues and make it so she no longer needed her leg braces and a surgery the victim told her that she was scheduled for. I call her a victim because she was falling hard. Mind you this rep cornered this woman in the restroom. I got out of my stall, got a good look at the rep, and grabbed the manager. As a vendor there myself, I not only know the manager personally, but I know even if she was a vendor, she is not allowed to pitch in the restroom. He asked the rep to leave and not come back again. He also told her if she attempted to come back, that he would revoke her membership so she would not be allowed to shop at any store in that chain at all. I went up to the victim later and told her that I will not tell her not to use the cream, but that she should seriously talk to the doctor before using it and even bring it to them. Thank you for standing up for that disabled woman. Many of those of us who are disabled (I have a development disability) are targeted by people who think we are desperate for a "cure."
I love that and seeing more people starting their own actual small businesses. As someone with a small business, I’m pretty sure from watching these videos that a legit small business requires less effort and money to start to get greater rewards, and I hope to see more and more people realize that.
Girl, I really think your channel is about to blow up. I just found you and immediately subbed bc the videos are so entertaining and well-articulated, which is kinda rare for me as I can watch the same channel for months without thinking to subscribe. And while I enjoy anti-mlm content, I find it kind of boring and bland sometimes after you’ve gone through the initial phase of binging the content. Not yours, though, the horror stories are my favorite bc the personal stories are insane and offer such an interesting look into this gross community.
My neighbor and bestie is not a market partner but she is buying product from her friend in Monat. All of your videos make me want to tell her to stop buying the products, even though she thinks she is just supporting her friend. I’ll have to keep thinking about how to word that lol. Thanks for your videos Hannah! ALSO, I told my husband we should cancel our life insurance policy with Primerica (that he bought from his best friend) and when I told him why he did it immediately. We now have a much better policy for much less per month with an actual company. I have you to thank for that 😊 I was even able to smartly explain why MLM products are more expensive and also not as good. Keep it up!

I'm so happy the rep that said something about the bullying and fake friendships is going ham and talking to anti MLM channels. That rep actually had me sign up with Monat, but she is also the type of person to sign people up under me to help me get a bonus to cover my pack I bought in the beginning. What they did to her was so messed up but I hope she jumps on the anti-mlm bandwagon and exposes all their bullshit.

A big problem also has to be inflation. Monday's prices are going up and if you have to pick between $90 in hair products or groceries, people are going to cancel those VIP accounts.
This makes me happy! Monat is the MLM I hate the most because they lean so heavily on their “amazing community” to recruit. It makes me so cross to see them crow about how they are so supportive of women but immediately prey on any woman who shows even a hint of loneliness by promising them an instant community of lifelong friends if they join. It’s so sad to think these women just need a friend and instead end up in with added stress and more often than not, massive debt. It’s just horrible. P.S Hannah, you are flying right now! I'm Brazilian too! but I've never had an 'encounter' with MLMs... well besides Avon I mean and also, idk how Avon opporates in Brazil, like they are sponsoring Big Brother Brasil, it is the most expensive program to not only advertise on, they have their products stock up in the house weekly, I was shocked to find out it was an MLM because it's such a huge company with a VERY heavy marketing team, they go after actual celebrities, not Z-list influencers even... Literally just remembered Monat girl tried signing me up as a VIP without me knowing when I asked about a flash sale (didn’t know anything back about the company at the time ). She sent me a bill when adding the stuff together and said she would send it to my email to check out. I asked what the VIP charge was and she told me it was just a one time charge to get a discount on the order. Looked it up and turned out being an auto ship thing. Did notttt ask about Monat again.
As much as I would love to see a downfall, I think Monat will try and change the comp plan to be more competitive so who knows what happens after that. But if they never do that, they will continue to lose market partners at a rapid rate.
Giving away products so far past expiration that they've turned from blue to yellow is so laughably self-parodic that I can't get over it. Also, all of these tactics put together by Monat screams of pump-and-dump to me, the last desperate gasp before the highest levels jump ship, leaving a multitude of huns behind wondering where their bonus checks went.
the thing i find most concerning about them not having to wait 6 months when you quit is how easy it would be to move people around and stack their teams
I would love to see you do a video on different LEGITIMATE side hustles that anyone can do to make extra money! there are so many options out there for people in today’s world including turning your hobby into a business through Etsy/Facebook, finding reputable online part time jobs, etc. it seems like the main focus of the MLMs is the work at home capability, but as we know there are way better options out there and I think a video highlighting that could be really helpful! 💖

That’s just low and a sure sign of desperation selling old products to unsuspecting customers. I’m sure some of these people will probably have skin problems from the old products and have to go to the dermatologist so that 15 dollar grab bag is suddenly not such a great deal.
It is wild to me that Monat blatantly shows off products that have expired and are showing obvious signs of discoloration. From what I have seen from various accounts, it looks like Monat products spoil quickly. Likely due to the formulas lacking proper preservatives and packaging.
I was at an actor's convention here in London in February and there was a company called Monet who specialise in finance & credit for performers. I said to them that I really hope nobody confuses them with this dodgy haircare company... 😆 They hadn't heard of Monat thankfully so they've been lucky so far. Hi Hannah! First off, your videos are incredibly well put together and well researched. I really appreciate that you don’t blame the victims of MLMs. As someone from a non-highly-populated area of the Midwest, I know multiple women who have fallen for the fake promises of various MLMs. I really want to see you do some deep dives on MLMs like Scentsy and especially Origami Owl. If you need any inside info for Origami Owl, I can give you a lot, as my grandma and I (I was a child, and I helped her sell and try to make a little money) have been involved with the company for 7-ish years (basically since the beginning). While I no longer am involved (moved away for college and found anti-MLM content), my grandma does the bare minimum, just to keep the discounts because she loves the product, but now she just wants to be rid of it all. I’ll share more about the story in a horror story email sometime, but I really want to hear your take on this MLM, especially since it was a fairly big part of my teenage years. I’m so glad these MLMs are starting to fail after seeing how much they can affect people’s lives.

A local salon in my town has started selling Monat in their storefront. It’s very disappointing as they have a wonderful reputation here and are now actively promoting this MLM to all of their customers.
Perhaps they are not only selling their expired products, they may be dumping inventory as they are preparing to make a quick exit and shut down without telling their market partners?

Watching these videos, it seems ridiculous that anyone would join a MLM. But I have had loved ones that are intelligent and hard working, but in a vulnerable situation have joined out of desperation. I hate when TH-cam creators talk down to them for joining and basically call them stupid. You never do that. And I really appreciate how you expose the corruption of the MLM, without talking down to the people that inadvertently got involved in the scam. To me when something is on sale for 40% of the time, then the "sale" price is the real price. That's how my brain begins to view it, and the "actual price" is just overpriced. It's just a bad business practice.

The only time I've seen real brands offer mystery boxes or huge sales like this is when they are cleaning out their warehouse and getting rid of old products or they are getting rid of products that didn't sell well when first released.

I’ve worked in Salon Supply Wholesale for 7 years a for a while there was a manager who was a veteran with our company. She started selling Monat FROM OUR STORES, like convincing our stylists to purchase Monat and use them on their clients. without corporate knowledge of course. She would take longer bathroom breaks to promote Monat’s products on her socials so the cameras wouldn’t see her 🤦🏼♀️ I dont know if corporate ever found out but she left our company a few months ago voluntarily, im not sure if she’s still with the MLM. I can also 100% attest to the disposal procedures for “hazmat” ( i did my damages literally today lol) everything thing has to be sorted out by category and material, we also regularly check expiration dates to ensure no expired products are sold. Those grab bags are a literal dirty money ploy

She seemed to relaunch Monay* and then God took her in the new direction of this new company. And she says the comp plan is way better. For one thing, they fired a rep, a really high up one, for talking to CC a few weeks ago. She was terminated because CC put that interview on the internet.
Hannah - as a crusty middle aged man I have literally zero interest in beauty products, but your Monat videos are totally fascinating to me. Most fascinating of all is the psychological aspect of getting caught up in an MLM and how it all becomes very tribal and cult-like.
I listened to the podcast after watching this. I knew it was coming. Hannah said it was coming! And still it was such a shock. When Angelique read that termination letter I was crying. I am heartbroken for her!
I’m in one of those dreaded 9-5s, and it would be unthinkable for us to pull out one of our discontinued products and try to sell it, for any reason. It would be embarrassing. Our competitors would have a field day. I can’t imagine.
As usual, your analysis is the best in the TH-cam anti-MLM space. Keep up the good work! Having said that, in numerical order 1) The graph is fairly thin evidence of downfall, as opposed to your brilliant takedown of Plexus, where you provided compelling evidence that that well is running dry. Instead, that graph could represent almost any non-MLM's annual revenue; 2) Ms. Robles was fired for 'linking arms' (their words) with Chelsea Suarez. Or at least that was the last straw. That's textbook MLM, not a sign of downfall. The nasty girls are top earners, so they can say what they want, as long as they don't appear on an anti-MLM channel; 3) Rank-buying is ALSO right out of the MLM playbook. I suspect that the phenomenon is widespread simply because the incentives to do so are there. As long as there are incentives to game the system, the system will be gamed; 4) Large teams leaving -- plausible; 5) Re-enrollment period waiver --- again, plausible sign; 6) VIP policy change-- plausible sign too; BONUS-Block party -- *shrugs* could be; 7) Selling expired product EDITED- okay that's some good analysis. At best, it's sketchy; 8) Failure to publish IDS; again, it's a bad sign, but it is meaningless out of context. Many MLMs are late with releasing IDSs, or release them intermittently. Now, a couple reasons why Monat might actually survive: they appear to be pumping out new products, which helps keep distributor-customers on board longer. Second, they can launch in new countries, which is positively tonic for an MLM. It's a big world. Sorry for the novel, but I did all this precisely because your analysis is the best out there.
A big world but not every country allows MLMs or at least controls it more and also, many countries have way less people than the US. Also, going to another country, especially if it's not the English-language one, is not easy, as you have to translate all the sources, to make labels in the language etc. And there is of course competition. Monat is also in Poland, where I am from. And we have MLMs here too, I know about at least over hundred MLM companies operating here and Poland has around 38 mln citizens. And there are also more established MLMs here, like e.g. Avon, Oriflame or Polish ones, like e.g. FM World or DuoLife. Starting a new branch is expensive and not a fast thing. There is also competition and market saturation to consider too. I don't think Monat is that big of a company to open new branches easily and even the bigger MLMs closed some of their branches, like Avon in France or Australia.
Sounds like they're trying to unload their inventory on their distributors before they fold. Milk them for all they can before things go completely sideways.
When you said they signed up not knowing what it was, I couldn't help but get the This is the song that never ends stuck in my head and then I realized it works for mlms so here is the mlm that never ends. This is the MLM that never ends, it goes on and on my friend, some people started joining it not knowing what it was and they'll continue recruiting for it forever just because (repeat until your brain melts).
This video is a masterpiece. You’ve got sources, most of which are taken directly from the MONAT WEBSITE/policy and procedures documents. This is so well researched and well executed and I hope more and more MLM reps/potential reps will see this video and realise what they are involved with or could be involved with 🙏🏻
I worked for The Body Shop as a shop manager. I love their products, BUT they were ALWAYS on sale. Buy 2 get 1 free, and on the weekends, Buy 3, Get 3 Free. There were some exceptions, like the higher end and new products but those eventually went in the sale too. The one thing I had to do at my shop was go through THOUSANDS of pieces of inventory and throw out anything with 3 months of expiring. Even though they have those little logos that show how long a product is good for after opening, they still have manufacturing dates and do expire. We threw out TONS and TONS of items, it made me so sad because of the waste. Some of the products had changed colour (faded) and the scents went rank! BUT at least we didn't try to make them "gifts with purchase" to our customers!
Yep! That happens all the time I have so many stories on Monat. I have seen that done for car, qualification, etc. within Monat. This company within the last two years especially has waived its re-launch the six months on more than one occasion. And I believe some of the products that you’re showing that was in the grab bag are no longer products they have available. Which they do a lot of, the company develops products that they can’t sell so then they put them in grab bags and give them as gifts, then they discontinue the line.

I love that and seeing more people starting their own actual small businesses. As someone with a small business, I’m pretty sure from watching these videos that a legit small business requires less effort and money to start to get greater rewards, and I hope to see more and more people realize that.

Girl, I really think your channel is about to blow up. I just found you and immediately subbed bc the videos are so entertaining and well-articulated, which is kinda rare for me as I can watch the same channel for months without thinking to subscribe. And while I enjoy anti-mlm content, I find it kind of boring and bland sometimes after you’ve gone through the initial phase of binging the content. Not yours, though, the horror stories are my favorite bc the personal stories are insane and offer such an interesting look into this gross community.

ALSO, I told my husband we should cancel our life insurance policy with Primerica (that he bought from his best friend) and when I told him why he did it immediately. We now have a much better policy for much less per month with an actual company. I have you to thank for that 😊 I was even able to smartly explain why MLM products are more expensive and also not as good. Keep it up!

I'm so happy the rep that said something about the bullying and fake friendships is going ham and talking to anti MLM channels. That rep actually had me sign up with Monat, but she is also the type of person to sign people up under me to help me get a bonus to cover my pack I bought in the beginning. What they did to her was so messed up but I hope she jumps on the anti-mlm bandwagon and exposes all their bullshit.
She has become ANTIMLM since all of this went down, looking at her instagram it seems that way, anyways. Which is awesome!!!

A big problem also has to be inflation. Monday's prices are going up and if you have to pick between $90 in hair products or groceries, people are going to cancel those VIP accounts.
This makes me happy! Monat is the MLM I hate the most because they lean so heavily on their “amazing community” to recruit. It makes me so cross to see them crow about how they are so supportive of women but immediately prey on any woman who shows even a hint of loneliness by promising them an instant community of lifelong friends if they join. It’s so sad to think these women just need a friend and instead end up in with added stress and more often than not, massive debt. It’s just horrible.

I'm Brazilian too! but I've never had an 'encounter' with MLMs... well besides Avon I mean and also, idk how Avon opporates in Brazil, like they are sponsoring Big Brother Brasil, it is the most expensive program to not only advertise on, they have their products stock up in the house weekly, I was shocked to find out it was an MLM because it's such a huge company with a VERY heavy marketing team, they go after actual celebrities, not Z-list influencers even... I'd love to know more!

Literally just remembered Monat girl tried signing me up as a VIP without me knowing when I asked about a flash sale (didn’t know anything back about the company at the time ). She sent me a bill when adding the stuff together and said she would send it to my email to check out. I asked what the VIP charge was and she told me it was just a one time charge to get a discount on the order. Looked it up and turned out being an auto ship thing. Did notttt ask about Monat again.

As much as I would love to see a downfall, I think Monat will try and change the comp plan to be more competitive so who knows what happens after that.
But if they never do that, they will continue to lose market partners at a rapid rate.
This reminds me of just before Lularoe took a dive - they also improved terms for reps to attract new recruits.
Giving away products so far past expiration that they've turned from blue to yellow is so laughably self-parodic that I can't get over it.
Also, all of these tactics put together by Monat screams of pump-and-dump to me, the last desperate gasp before the highest levels jump ship, leaving a multitude of huns behind wondering where their bonus checks went.
the thing i find most concerning about them not having to wait 6 months when you quit is how easy it would be to move people around and stack their teams

I would love to see you do a video on different LEGITIMATE side hustles that anyone can do to make extra money! there are so many options out there for people in today’s world including turning your hobby into a business through Etsy/Facebook, finding reputable online part time jobs, etc. it seems like the main focus of the MLMs is the work at home capability, but as we know there are way better options out there and I think a video highlighting that could be really helpful! 💖

I’ve been so excited to hear your take on all of this! Aside from the initial “oh my word! I can’t believe this happened!”, I really appreciate the factual approach & unbiased perspectives you bring to the table.
That’s just low and a sure sign of desperation selling old products to unsuspecting customers. I’m sure some of these people will probably have skin problems from the old products and have to go to the dermatologist so that 15 dollar grab bag is suddenly not such a great deal.
It is wild to me that Monat blatantly shows off products that have expired and are showing obvious signs of discoloration. From what I have seen from various accounts, it looks like Monat products spoil quickly. Likely due to the formulas lacking proper preservatives and packaging.
I was at an actor's convention here in London in February and there was a company called Monet who specialise in finance & credit for performers. I said to them that I really hope nobody confuses them with this dodgy haircare company... 😆 They hadn't heard of Monat thankfully so they've been lucky so far.

Hi Hannah! First off, your videos are incredibly well put together and well researched. I really appreciate that you don’t blame the victims of MLMs. As someone from a non-highly-populated area of the Midwest, I know multiple women who have fallen for the fake promises of various MLMs. I really want to see you do some deep dives on MLMs like Scentsy and especially Origami Owl. If you need any inside info for Origami Owl, I can give you a lot, as my grandma and I (I was a child, and I helped her sell and try to make a little money) have been involved with the company for 7-ish years (basically since the beginning). While I no longer am involved (moved away for college and found anti-MLM content), my grandma does the bare minimum, just to keep the discounts because she loves the product, but now she just wants to be rid of it all. I’ll share more about the story in a horror story email sometime, but I really want to hear your take on this MLM, especially since it was a fairly big part of my teenage years. I’m so glad these MLMs are starting to fail after seeing how much they can affect people’s lives.

I'm so late to this, but discounting products this much just shows how cheap they are to manufacture and how heavily they're marked up.
A local salon in my town has started selling Monat in their storefront. It’s very disappointing as they have a wonderful reputation here and are now actively promoting this MLM to all of their customers.
Perhaps they are not only selling their expired products, they may be dumping inventory as they are preparing to make a quick exit and shut down without telling their market partners?

Watching these videos, it seems ridiculous that anyone would join a MLM. But I have had loved ones that are intelligent and hard working, but in a vulnerable situation have joined out of desperation. I hate when TH-cam creators talk down to them for joining and basically call them stupid. You never do that. And I really appreciate how you expose the corruption of the MLM, without talking down to the people that inadvertently got involved in the scam.

The only time I've seen real brands offer mystery boxes or huge sales like this is when they are cleaning out their warehouse and getting rid of old products or they are getting rid of products that didn't sell well when first released.

I’ve worked in Salon Supply Wholesale for 7 years a for a while there was a manager who was a veteran with our company. She started selling Monat FROM OUR STORES, like convincing our stylists to purchase Monat and use them on their clients. without corporate knowledge of course. She would take longer bathroom breaks to promote Monat’s products on her socials so the cameras wouldn’t see her 🤦🏼♀️ I dont know if corporate ever found out but she left our company a few months ago voluntarily, im not sure if she’s still with the MLM. I can also 100% attest to the disposal procedures for “hazmat” ( i did my damages literally today lol) everything thing has to be sorted out by category and material, we also regularly check expiration dates to ensure no expired products are sold. Those grab bags are a literal dirty money ploy

She seemed to relaunch Monay* and then God took her in the new direction of this new company. And she says the comp plan is way better. Hannah - as a crusty middle aged man I have literally zero interest in beauty products, but your Monat videos are totally fascinating to me. Most fascinating of all is the psychological aspect of getting caught up in an MLM and how it all becomes very tribal and cult-like.

I’m in one of those dreaded 9-5s, and it would be unthinkable for us to pull out one of our discontinued products and try to sell it, for any reason. It would be embarrassing. Our competitors would have a field day. I can’t imagine.
As usual, your analysis is the best in the TH-cam anti-MLM space. Keep up the good work! Having said that, in numerical order 1) The graph is fairly thin evidence of downfall, as opposed to your brilliant takedown of Plexus, where you provided compelling evidence that that well is running dry. Instead, that graph could represent almost any non-MLM's annual revenue; 2) Ms. Robles was fired for 'linking arms' (their words) with Chelsea Suarez. Or at least that was the last straw. That's textbook MLM, not a sign of downfall. The nasty girls are top earners, so they can say what they want, as long as they don't appear on an anti-MLM channel; 3) Rank-buying is ALSO right out of the MLM playbook. I suspect that the phenomenon is widespread simply because the incentives to do so are there. As long as there are incentives to game the system, the system will be gamed; 4) Large teams leaving -- plausible; 5) Re-enrollment period waiver --- again, plausible sign; 6) VIP policy change-- plausible sign too; BONUS-Block party -- *shrugs* could be; 7) Selling expired product EDITED- okay that's some good analysis. At best, it's sketchy; 8) Failure to publish IDS; again, it's a bad sign, but it is meaningless out of context. Many MLMs are late with releasing IDSs, or release them intermittently. Now, a couple reasons why Monat might actually survive: they appear to be pumping out new products, which helps keep distributor-customers on board longer. Second, they can launch in new countries, which is positively tonic for an MLM. It's a big world. Sorry for the novel, but I did all this precisely because your analysis is the best out there.
A big world but not every country allows MLMs or at least controls it more and also, many countries have way less people than the US. Also, going to another country, especially if it's not the English-language one, is not easy, as you have to translate all the sources, to make labels in the language etc. And there is of course competition. Monat is also in Poland, where I am from. And we have MLMs here too, I know about at least over hundred MLM companies operating here and Poland has around 38 mln citizens. And there are also more established MLMs here, like e.g. Avon, Oriflame or Polish ones, like e.g. FM World or DuoLife.
Starting a new branch is expensive and not a fast thing. There is also competition and market saturation to consider too. I don't think Monat is that big of a company to open new branches easily and even the bigger MLMs closed some of their branches, like Avon in France or Australia.

This is the MLM that never ends, it goes on and on my friend, some people started joining it not knowing what it was and they'll continue recruiting for it forever just because (repeat until your brain melts).

This is so well researched and well executed and I hope more and more MLM reps/potential reps will see this video and realise what they are involved with or could be involved with 🙏🏻
It's fascinating that beauty products need to be disposed of by toxic waste disposal and yet...people willingly apply this stuff to their bodies????
I worked for The Body Shop as a shop manager. I love their products, BUT they were ALWAYS on sale. Buy 2 get 1 free, and on the weekends, Buy 3, Get 3 Free. There were some exceptions, like the higher end and new products but those eventually went in the sale too. The one thing I had to do at my shop was go through THOUSANDS of pieces of inventory and throw out anything with 3 months of expiring. Even though they have those little logos that show how long a product is good for after opening, they still have manufacturing dates and do expire. We threw out TONS and TONS of items, it made me so sad because of the waste. Some of the products had changed colour (faded) and the scents went rank!
BUT at least we didn't try to make them "gifts with purchase" to our customers!

Yep! That happens all the time I have so many stories on Monat. I have seen that done for car, qualification, etc. within Monat. This company within the last two years especially has waived its re-launch the six months on more than one occasion. And I believe some of the products that you’re showing that was in the grab bag are no longer products they have available. Which they do a lot of, the company develops products that they can’t sell so then they put them in grab bags and give them as gifts, then they discontinue the line.
