  • One of the greatest monster movies came in 1990 from an unsuspecting director that mixed heart, charm, and a 1950s creature feature. Today we show our love for the great Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward cult classic, Tremors!

OMG that detail of Burt checking the gun even though he knew it’s wasn’t loaded is one of the BEST attention to details for a character ever put to screen. This is why we love Burt. As you said, sure he’s the butt of some jokes but he’s not a dumb character at all.

Not only is it one of the best horror ever made, especially on such a limited budget, but it's also one of the greatest animal attack films too. It's able to pull off that rare feat of perfectly balancing the line between funny and scary, and the practical effects are amazing.

    YES!!
I grew up watching this movie on the Navajo Nation when I was younger.
I saw it on NBC back in 1993 or 1994.
    It was a fun ride.
The idea came from Brent Maddock and SS Wilson, they were in the Navy, they were sitting on a large rock in a Nevada test site and one of them said, "what if there was something under the ground that would never let us of this rock?" And thus TREMORS was born.

Great video! And you didn't even mention how great Reba McIntyre is as Burt's wife. She is just as smart as him and saves his life. Nowadays they'd intentionally make the wife smarter and cram it down our throats, but in Tremors it doesn't come across as forced at all and she seems exactly like the type of women a guy like Burt would want by his side because he appreciates that about her.

An absolute favorite of my childhood! I was barely knee height when I seen this movie and instantly fell in love and fear! Back when VHS tapes were too expensive to buy our local rental place Video update had a 5 for 5 for 5 deal on Tuesdays. You could rent 5 movies for 5 days for 5 dollars! Every week I would beg my mom to head to the video store and this one was always my first choice. Mom would pick some too. Did this for a year or two until I was given a vhs copy for Christmas. Still have it!
    Rest In Peace Fred Ward!!!
And I can’t thank you enough Michael Gross for continuing to direct/ produce installments in this cult classic genre!

I will always have a place in my heart for the first Tremors. One thing I do like about the franchise is that they never replace a character with a different actor. The character themselves just leave the universe. It’s sad in some ways. To see Earl down and out after Val left with Ronda and the same with Burt after Heather left him is unfortunate. But Miquel come back in part 3 with the same actor or Arianna Richards come back as a grown up Mindy, it’s brings a great level of continuity. Even Melvin returning as a land developer.

Couldn't agree more. The sequels are fun, but the original is so full of love. Great snippet of character dialogue right at the outset, when Val asks Earl if a cattle event is to be considered a stampede, is there a requirement of minimum speed? Hilarious throwaway line, so good, the viewer's ears prick up so as to not miss the next one. Right away, we're fully awake.

One of the best monster movies ever made, it has everything. I was always hoping to see Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon return to the franchise one day and we got that a few years ago with the Tremors reboot in 2018 but sadly, for whatever reason, even though it's completed and ready to go, it was never released and seems to have been locked away in a vault somewhere. I hope they do release it on Tv or something at some point because with Fred Wards passing last year, we'll never get another chance to Val and Earl together again :(

One of my favorite movies! Saw it back in the early 90s; NBC would always show it as a Sunday Night Movie & I instantly fell in love. The TV edits of the profanity are hilarious & deserve a watch if you can find 'em online--specifically the NBC airings 😂
Tremors does that balance of comedy & horror much like the original Ghostbusters or Little Shop of Horrors ('86)--probably why I love it so much. When it's funny, it's hilarious. When it's scary, it's terrifying.--And I love that juxtaposition of "the ordinary vs the extraordinary." Definitely one of the last great monster movies of its kind. If a grabboid tried to get me, it would get a cat first allowing me time to save the other one and climb through my window to safety lol. Still my #1 creature horror franchise to this day, only narrowly squeezing out Critters.

Burt and Heather Gummer (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) stole the entire show with that basement scene. I saw this with my dad and cousin in the movie theater and it was AWESOME!!
That sceme is one of the best ever tho. How the Tremor (Graboid) busts into their basement and the camera cuts back to Val and Earl. And you hear Bert over the radio yell, "Jesus Christ!" At that point the audience thinks they're both dead.
Then you hear the cracking of those rifle shots ring out across the valley. They're fighting back. And then the camera goes back to the basement, they're shooting their asses off, we then see that wall of guns!!
And we're introduced to that incredible 8 gauge Elephant Gun!
Best scene of the entire movie!
"BROKE INTO THE WRONG GODDAMN WRECKROOM DIDN'T YOU, YOU BASTARD!!"
    -Burt Gummer.

Fantastic and original, I don't think there's anything similar that is remotely as great as this movie, not even the awful sequels, I think the biggest problem the sequels had was that they were constantly changing the monster when it was perfect to begin with.

Does anyone like not like this movie? You can hate monster flicks and still love it cause it's just plain entertaining.

The full cast is perfect! Think about Family Ties and then Bam Bert. Lol I only just today, organised a Tremors Night.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie more than I've seen tremors , hell I haven't even seen it for probably 15 years , but from the mid 90s to the mid 2000s It was constantly on either the living room tv or my bedroom tv , I think I still have a vhs tape recorded off of tv somewhere in a box

When you get a good thing you always want more, and this video breakdown is that good thing. Would love this video to be two or three times the length. Great stuff.

Don't fall for anyone stating, "They're gonna remake Jaws..." because it's been remade several times, just with different critters standing in for the shark. If one considers categorizing Tremors as one of those (essentially) remakes, albeit perhaps the best, as an insult to Tremors, then think of this movie instead as a spiritual successor to Jaws. Whichever the case, I love both movies.

100% to everything said in this video. Saw this at the cinema and loved it. It handled the horror and humor perfectly. And amen with regard to CGI and practical effects. Practical wins every time because CGI never looks photorealistic. I'll take practical over the best CGI every time.
