It seems that the majority of the comments want an actual interview with Andrew Yang. They should actually bring him on the show. I got it.. it's satire, but now let's use the show to spread what Andrew Yang is about.
Bring Andrew on for a REAL interview. This was disgraceful. Andrews smart, he knows any press is good Press but he deserves a real chance to explain his platform.
I hope Andrew Yang wins, I did my Research & his platform is really great. Universal healthcare and environment also priorities. sadly , the daily show could have done a better job of getting his real message out there. Hopefully Trevor will have him as a guest .
Seriously, his platform is ridiculously thorough and well thought out. I've never seen such a thoughtful policy presentation from _any_ presidential candidate. EDIT: to anyone curious: www.yang2020.com/policies/
Agreed! I wish he got more support from progressives though. It seems like the majority of them are backing Bernie no matter what without hearing Yang out.
Yang is appealing until you realize that taxes need to be raised in order to pay for his UBI. He’s saying close to European levels which could be in the 30% (probably not that high but that’s what Scandinavian countries have). Most Americans complain bout 15% being taken out of their checks when they get paid or if they owe during Tax Season. People want free money but not if it means giving up their money. People don’t think long term or selflessly. I agree that raising taxes and giving everyone UBI and health care is a must but Americans are not that progressive thinking, at least not yet.
@@CaptainCaterpillars Yang's policies are the best we could elect in 2020 but the country isn't ready to embrace those policies. Bernie would be the perfect transitional point until the nation at large feels the benefits of his policies and become willing to listen to progressive thought.
BlitzofChaos Gaming If you know anything about marketing, you’d know that comedy would gather as much views as possible. These views will then eventually lead to comments like this, as planned, which will lead them to research more about the issue. At least, well, that’s what I would do if I were the news team here.
@@RocketDRA I think you misunderstood me, sir. What I meant was that this bit was obviously trying to be humorous and not informative about his policies. It increased Yangs face recognition among people and I'm sure people looked up more information about him because of it. I'm not from the US, but I find his way of thinking interesting.
@@sudahsarjana5804 the "real" news has been mostly silent about Andrew Yang, and for obvious reasons. This was a chance to really get him in the spotlight so more people would learn what he has to say, what he wants to do, and how he can make it a reality. If Trevor Noah can have an intellectual and meaningful conversation with Tomi Lahren about the national anthem debacle on his #COMEDY show, then he's also able to give an appropriate platform to a presidential candidate who has revolutionary ideas compared to every other person running as a Democrat in 2020 - while also believing in many of the fundamental things that the others believe in. Reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ equality, gun control policy, Medicare for all, just to name a few - but the UBI sets him apart in a very significant way.
He's already surprisingly explaining it on conservative platforms where it seems he's gaining support, where it matters. This is a comedy show where most of the people are liberal, and also have a sense of humor.
@@omi_god Actually it is affordable just look up any video with him talking about his policies and you'll see a more in depth explanation about how this can work and why we should try it. On top of that, $12,000 a year is still below the poverty line so it's not going to be a solid replacement.
omi god oh, we can fund his freedom dividend policy. But we can't keep letting huge companies like Amazon and Netflix pay absolutely nothing in taxes. If Americans are going to be displaced on a massive scale from the work force because of automation, then a value-added tax on the companies who will benefit the most can go towards helping working families afford their way of living. 12,000 a year will not make anyone rich, it will simply help their situation in a way that will more effectively get them out of poverty than welfare programs. Those receiving welfare will have to decide for themselves if they'd rather opt-in for a UBI or stay with their current financial assistance program(s). In that way, $500 billion is taken out of the cost of a UBI for all citizens. It's not sustainable to keep allowing a small amount of people to reap all the benefits of massive unemployment because of automation. This will help working people without pushing socialism and insisting that there needs to be massive wealth redistribution - a UBI simply allows Americans to benefit in a small way from large corporations making vast sums of money in their own country while keeping the free market intact and without causing inflation.
@@omi_god Your first point is an extreme example of the worst case scenario. Another outcome of the UBI bill passing would be people paying their bills, going out more, buying things that they want which will help with the growth of the economy which leads to more jobs. The homeless would be able to job hunt without having the fear of losing all of their benefits, and I'll go ahead and argue that this is the more realistic outcome of UBI than your scenario because not everyone in America is extremely paranoid as soon as they get alittle money in their hands. To your second point, that's only if we start making more money out of the blue just to support this plan (or inflation, but competition is still a thing in the world of capitalism so I doubt it would be a big problem). We DO have the money to cover this. Also, could you please keep your argument to one post per response? It gets difficult to catch your argument when it's scattered and I don't want to misconstrue your points.
@@omi_god Actually you can consider this 1000$ UBI means you are scrapping welfare, food stamps, disability benefits, everyone who works in that, and so on. That means you are opening up a lot of money to be relocated.
Many of their 'skit' interviews have benn like this for years. They make it very obvious that it's a joke. Do you really think Andrew Yang thought this was a legit interview? It's an exposure that he really needs.
Tbh I think he came here for a legit interview like Kamala Harris, but when he got the questions he did he realized it was a joke interview obviously. This kind of just makes a joke out of asian people though, it's not that we can't take it but it is a little unfunny to me.
@@cheexiong1083 I get what kind of show it is, but it's still poor execution. It was funny in some parts, but the whole time I was waiting for a little bit of substance for Yang so that the segment was more of laughing with Yang vs laughing at him and that didn't happen
Elly Double I felt the same - he can handle it. His situation before the CNN Town Hall pushes him to get on any platform possible and at least get his name out there, and then expect people to google more information.
I'm TOTALLY disappointed in the Daily Show!!! Andrew Yang deserves better. We finally see him a major media show, and they joke about his platform! WTF Trevor!?!?!? This man means the best for America and he doesn't spread fear, he spreads FACTS calmly! Clearly, main stream media doesnt want this Yang as president! The better get on board because THE PEOPLE WANT YANG!!!!
I watched the Shapiro interview when it came out and I hate that I had to watch a damn 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗼 video to listen to Yang discuss his views. It also sucks to think about how Ben Shapiro made one of the best interviews with Andrew Yang seeing as I hate Shapiro. It’s also super annoying to see people who are annoyed cause Chieng was “disrespectful.” He’s playing a character and Yang is definitely smart enough to realize that! Also, do people think that acting the cameras stop rolling the people in the video cease to be in the same plane of existence? They were in the same room together both before and after the interview and that would give Chieng plenty of time to say, “I’m playing the character of a stupid and obstinate person, I think you’re very smart and I respect you.”
@@radicaljack-ical2536 I wouldn’t use the word hate so easily. I don’t think Shapiro is a bad guy. Media makes us hate anyone conservative when we shouldn’t. Hate the actual alt right like Richard spencer and even then I would argue those guys are so ignorant and hateful that hating them wouldn’t do anything. But people like Ben honestly I think he’s a good person just more conservative in nature and there’s nothing wrong with that. Let’s try to have more nuance
Why does Kamala Harris get a serious interview to discuss her platform, while Andrew Yang gets a comedic interview and is prevented from going fully in-depth
Trevor, that was s SHAMEFUL and DISRESPECTFUL trratment of Yang. You have to make this right and bring him back immediately and sanction your guy. It wasn't funny!
yeah i usually like this show, but i didn't laugh once... maybe i'm just a liberal, and can only enjoy it when Republicans are being made fun of, but at least when you make fun of republicans you do it with concrete facts. So it's funny then. This was a throwback to junior high... Sorry i'm 30 now, guess i'll go watch letterman
I think everyone's missing the point. I had literally never heard of Yang before this clip. I thought it was hilarious and went out and researched him afterwards. If it was a regular old interview I probably wouldn't of heard of him until 2020.
Yes. Same here. I thought the policy was interesting. I can't tell if all these people are just trolls or really don't understand the meaning of satire. Maybe they don't watch the Daily show but I saw this as good publicity.
Yes, really, this is Comedy Central after all. Don’t expect something overly serious here. Besides, comedy is a great way to pass the word on. People often underestimate it, but in a world where most people have low attention spans with the internet, it allows people to at least get the name heard and passed around rather than none at all. Besides, showing his interview last is a great way to show the “Last, but not the very least” type of attitude people have. People often remember the first and last of any performance, and besides, quality is better than quantity. At least they had time to prepare, edit and show the interview well later on.
It wouldn't have been so objectionable if they hadn't brought that idiot on to say (incorrectly) that it would cost a fortune and then cut Yang off before he could give the slightest explanation of how he'd pay for it. If they'd let him explain and then made fun of it, fine. But the way they did it was *highly* misleading to voters on the issue.
I heard of the guy a year ago. Thought he wasn’t in his right mind. Well, i watch his podcast and came to realize how intelligent and logical he really was. He is clearly the only candidate i can see that has real solutions that can be made.
You criticize him, and yet you offer no rebuttal. The media will be its own downfall. I wrote off UBI until I saw this interview and how badly they mocked him for no legitimate reason, now after doing research on Yang from other sources I'm thinking I'll be joining the Yang Gang.
Love seeing this comment. I was similarly not sure about UBI, so I read a lot about it and realized actually it's not so crazy. I also read Yang's book recently -- it is amazing! He really paints the picture clearly. I'm now totally convinced this dude has some of the best solutions compared to any other of the politicians running. Glad to be part of the Yang Gang with open minded people like yourself!
THAT IS THE PLAN. YOU SEE. IF you intro this candidate who is a nobody, you aint listening to shit. Now he is cut-off, then bam. You went googling his actual stuff. Thats a win-win for yang and daily show.
Very funny. Andrew Yang is Awesome, and he has my vote. Tons of other great videos on his policies. This is one to show he has a sense of humor, and can take a joke. Well played Yang. :)

But that just locked down the tax income to the last number of jobs registered. The lost of jobs at the time is not the same as no longer expanding job market. You're awarding the generation that got replaced by automation but ignoring the following generations who would not get that same job.
@carli max Or you could just give that money to the people and let them decide how to spend it. Giant government programs, built with the best intentions, will still have a ton of overhead.

Yang basically never even brings up his race, he’s 100% data driven.
Not really. It actually paints Yang in a positive light. Yang gets to play the straight man to Ronny's funny man. And it's not an interview. It's a bit for a comedy show.

He's not for a Living wage for full-time workers, Higher Education and Healthcare as a Human Right, student and medical debt cancellation, or a Federal Jobs Guarentee.
Yang keeps saying that he will fund his UBI with a tax on industries that employ automation. Then he refers to that tax as a Value Added Tax. In doing so Yang is misleading the American people. Businesses do not pay the VAT. Consumers pay the VAT. Businesses collect the VAT from consumers at the point of sale and then turn that money over to the government. Under Yangs plan the government would then distribute that money equally amongst those qualified to receive it. Think about it. Consumers pay a tax that the government collects and then redistributes back to consumers leaving businesses unaffected. All businesses would simple serve as the middle man in the socialist redistribution of wealth from those that have it to those who do not. Egalitarianism. What will happen is that people who make large purchases (the wealthy and middle class) will pay the most in VAT which will serve to redistribute that portion of their wealth to people in the lower class and the poor disproportionately.
I think this segment was good for Yang. The comedy humanizes him. Yang knew what this was. Anyone who watches the Daily show knows the score about field pieces. Many people will just view Yang as another rich man trying to run America for the rich. The idea that he could take part in this satire soften the edges on another rich candidate. I'm sure he will get another shot at a legit feature on major programming or even the Daily Show. There is a lot more time remaining for this election process. Job loss to automation and how much worse it could get, mental health (and overall well-being) issues related to bad economic standing, the absurdity of our health care system (okay, a lot of people are painfully aware of this), etc.

I really hope people would do more research on this concept before bashing it because, as far as the world's future outlook goes, this seems to be one of the better outcomes. And, before anyone screams libertard, I don't think I would be for it if I haven't heard the arguments for it. UBI seems ridiculous in hindsight, and is crazy to even think about implementing it, but from what I've looked into, it seems to be a sort of necessity just to move society along into a better future.

everyone complaining about not being able to hear his platform...ffs his platform has been on his website for a while now. sorry you have to read a candidates policy to make a better informed decision. this was fantastic
....You didn’t let him discuss his policies at all, especially how he plans to pay for UBI. Let the man speak. In an attempt to be “funny”, you don’t take Yang or his platform seriously. I lost a lot of respect for this show.
Glad Yang got to appear on the show, but I wish they would’ve let him explain his platform for 5 minutes instead of trying to make the whole thing a joke
Daily Show, come on. Yang has some of the best policy ideas I've seen so far, including but by no means limited to UBI. He also has a concrete way to pay for UBI. Alaska also has UBI ALREADY and it WORKS. It's payed for by the oil industry. Yang says that the tech industry is the new oil industry, and it's easily capable of covering UBI with a VAT. Amazon has more wealth than most countries. Have him on your show and do a real interview, this was disgraceful
Where in this video do you get the idea that they don't think they're good policies? Ronnie is always the sarcastic idiot that makes awful counter arguments.
Andrew Yang has good ideas on how to cause hyper inflation. Do you know what adding 4 trillion dollars into the market would cause? I think starting off with a lower amount and gradually increasing it would be better than going straight to 1,000 dollars, maybe try 100. UBI works in alaska because nobody wants to live there lol. Less people in a state means more money people get on average.
Yang may not be my choice, but he does have many awesome policy positions and clearly explains how he'd make those policies come to fruition. I feel like this comedy skit did him a huge disservice by not letting him explain UBI. Kinda sad.
Jordan Crawford I think Yang understands college better Han Sanders. I think Yang is overall more up to date then Sanders. I doubt Sanders sees the benefits of capitalism or its necessity(even within a communistic system) as well as Yang does. I’d probably go for Yang.
@@John-lf3xf I suppose that's a fair criticism. When you peel back the media circus that is Bernie Sanders coverage, I think you'll begin to see that one of Bernie Sanders' core campaign promises is to make higher education more affordable. As a recent college grad who is currently paying down student loans - I trust him to make good on that promise. Furthermore, i believe you would also find that Bernie see's the benefits of capitalism when it's in pursuit of the creation of non/less necessary goods and services. A profit motive and competition are great when it comes to making shoe's, cars, video games, furniture, music, etc. but not so much when it comes to things such as healthcare, the prison system and education. It is my understanding that those are the only areas, save for the financial sector running rampant, that Bernie Sanders gripes about capitalism. Nothing against Yang, he just doesn't have the decades long track record of being in government and putting forth the effort to accomplish what he espouses.
Jordan Crawford I feel like Bernie has a grip on the political aspect, but Yang has a grip on the knowledge of the situation to a much greater extent is all.
That old guy says "only some jobs are going to be replaced by robots". Yes, but those small amount of jobs are the jobs that have the most people! ALL of America's blue collar workers are going to lose their jobs and to dismiss that as "only some jobs" shows how disconnected the establishment is from the common people, and how the number of jobs is only a mere statistic to them. Yes the number of jobs That are going to be replaced is low, but the number of people working in them is very high!
People need to adjust and learn a new skill sets if their job will be replaced. There are many professions that need people. It is the responsibility of the people to learn new skills and adapt. It is not the responsibility of the government to pay them because they will not or cannot learn a new skill set to get a new job. There are millions of jobs available right now in this country.
So you lose jobs and hope goverment give you free money. Where is the money come from? You tax the rich more? Isnt this just a legal way to rob rich? Automation is good. Somewhere there will be balance of supply and demand. They cant make too much if there is no demand. Why there is automation because there is increase of mininal wages every year so company say screw human we leave for cheap country or robots. This what you get by intervening market. They will always try to beat the system. Next thing they can do is make a society by their own.
I understand the comedy aspect but I am really getting tired of the Daily show and Colbert not giving the progressive candidates a fair chance. They'll have establishment candidates come fill them with bullshit platitudes and be semi serious but with Tulsi, Yang, and Bernie, pie in the sky. They are owned by major corps though
@Christopher Fairfield dudeeeeeeeeeeee is fucking satire I personally would've voted for him if bernie wasn't running he has that affect on people everything else he says make sense don't give me wrong but bernie wants the the top 1 percent and make every election more transparent to the people umm hello? fuck yeah and 15 dollars the hour can be understable but i don't work by the hour so I honestly care about politics and money craving billionaires not on the same stick of issues of the people
For everyone saying they don't like how Andrew Yang was treated, yes I see your point 100% - BUT he agreed to the interview in the first place KNOWING it was by the daily show. Im sure he expected something like this. You know what though? It got his name out there - I am sure he isn't too upset.
It seems that the majority of the comments want an actual interview with Andrew Yang. They should actually bring him on the show. I got it.. it's satire, but now let's use the show to spread what Andrew Yang is about.
It's not satire, it's just straight up clownery.
Agreed. They can bounce back from this, but Andrew Yang actually needs to be able to get a true sit down. His words (non-edited) speak for themselves
watch him on breakfast club, he is awesome
Everyone who wants real information on Andrew Yang- listen to episode 1245 of "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast. Yang explains everything in depth.
Fox news seems to be treating him pretty well
Bring Andrew on for a REAL interview.

Captain Caterpillar look up his platform. He proposes a VAT of around 10 percent to pay for the majority of it.
@@CaptainCaterpillars Yang's policies are the best we could elect in 2020 but the country isn't ready to embrace those policies. Bernie would be the perfect transitional point until the nation at large feels the benefits of his policies and become willing to listen to progressive thought.
I have to agree with most of the comments here. This was a joke. Yang has the best vision and policies going foward for this country without a doubt.
I think it worked to his advantage. It does not take much brainpower to see that this is ridiculous.
You do know that jokes are what Comedy Central is about, don't you?
BlitzofChaos Gaming If you know anything about marketing, you’d know that comedy would gather as much views as possible. These views will then eventually lead to comments like this, as planned, which will lead them to research more about the issue. At least, well, that’s what I would do if I were the news team here.
Shame comedy central... SHAME!!!
I didn’t like this simply because it doesn’t give Andrew Yang a chance to explain his stance. Wasted opportunity.
It's a comedy channel dummy

that’s cause the daily show is shit propaganda for the DNC
Now get him on the show for a legitimate interview with Trevor.
Andrew addresses the doubts that surround the rest of this video. Allow him to speak about his policies!
@@omi_god Actually it is affordable just look up any video with him talking about his policies and you'll see a more in depth explanation about how this can work and why we should try it. On top of that, $12,000 a year is still below the poverty line so it's not going to be a solid replacement.
This is a *comedy* show, innit?
omi god oh, we can fund his freedom dividend policy.

Yangs legit. Don’t base ur opinion on him off this parody vid. See a Joe Rogan or Ben Shapiro to really get a grasp on Yangs intellectual prowess
H3 podcast interview on Andrew Yang is also good.

Finally someone who gets it.

Google: Andrew Yang UBI
Explains his platform very clearly
They explain it pretty good here too!
th-cam.com/video/VtBt2OSL2Mw/w-d-xo.html
Andrew Yang is covering class consciousness with table scraps while protecting his friends in Silicone Valley. Hard pass.

Let Yang speak. He has sound positions. Or are y'all intentionally trying to sabotage good change........!??!????
I think this segment was good for Yang. The comedy humanizes him. Yang knew what this was. Anyone who watches the Daily show knows the score about field pieces. Many people will just view Yang as another rich man trying to run America for the rich. The idea that he could take part in this satire soften the edges on another rich candidate. I'm sure he will get another shot at a legit feature on major programming or even the Daily Show. There is a lot more time remaining for this election process. You have to remember one of the Democratic front runners hasn't even announced his candidacy yet.

As a huge Trever Noah/Ronny Chieng fan, this interview is terrible. Andrew deserved a much better interview.

I don't find Chieng funny. This skit kind of reaffirmed my opinion of him where the jokes were flat...
I thought Ronny looked like a jerk here. I know it's comedy/satire and all, but this was just poorly done. I wanted to hear what Yang had to say.
I just lost all interest in the daily show after this hack job b.s.
Ronny is merely pointing out what will happen and and the bad that comes with 2020 and saying it sarcastically where otheres are afraid to say it!
I think Chieng actually wants Yang to win, but was just scripted to do the interview like this. I may be wrong.
Thus far, Andrew Yang has my vote.

It is a comedy. Not a real interview
Please invite Yang to do an extended (more serious) interview. Aside from whether $1000 a month is economically possible, the problems it's meant to address are very real and need to be fixed. Regardless if Yang is elected, he is talking about issues that more people should be aware of. Job loss to automation and how much worse it could get, mental health (and overall well-being) issues related to bad economic standing, the absurdity of our health care system (okay, a lot of people are painfully aware of this), etc.

"You are making it so hard to vote based on identity politics right now!" Hilarious. Take it easy folks. This is just a parody skit voicing out loud much of the skepticism that people have about the campaign. This is a pre-taped skit. They probably covered all the main points that Yang wanted to go over. Plus, we all know Ronny's got a douce bag personality on the show anyway. I thought this was great.
Same here! Thanks for pointing out the elephant in the room, no idea why ppl can't even take a joke.
Sadly not everyone going see this as a joke/parody . Actually saw this video first time 6 months ago and thought Yang and his policy is a joke without even trying to do any research of him.

I strongly advise people to listen to an in-depth interview with Andrew Yang!!!!!!!
For all of these mainstream outlets you ALWAYS have to look at the comments to get a real sense of what's going on. From just the video you'd think Yang was a fringe candidate, but only if you read the comments you realize that's not the case!

Dammit. I was really hoping Comesy Central would actually give Yang a platform. Instead they let him talk for a minute and kept saying “oh we can’t do this we can’t do that”
I have never voted in a presidential election, did not know what the primary elections were, I have never even thought about donating to an election campaign and have never been excited about a presidential candidate. All that has changed since seeing Yang on JRE and Shapiro, then watching him give interviews with Fox News and various other mostly online platforms.
He is smart, well spoken, uses numbers and statistics instead of playing on peoples fears and biases. He is not a 'Get elected at all costs politician' and not a 'Sleazy make money at all costs business man'. His policies are well thought out based on statistics, projections based on facts, and are geared toward not just the next four years, but the next 40.

I do agree that he should have been able to say more, but he did establish his main promise which is HUGE; UBI. it’s still only March 2019 and even for American standards that’s way early to start campaigning so maybe he was just trying to put his name and his views out there to garner more support before campaigning really kicks off since he’s not one of the more popular candidates.

It's really sad that he didn't get to talk about his policies clearly. UBI is something futurists have been talking about for years and Andrew Yang is doing a pretty great job trying to educate people about it.
This was neither funny nor informative in terms of learning about the Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang. He is by far the most competent of all the Democratic nominees, in my opinion of course, and for him to be treated this way shows gross negligence.
I hope Trevor does a one-on-one with Yang. In the meanwhile, I urge everyone to research every Democratic candidate out there and carefully consider your options. For myself, and many, many others I might add, Yang and his perspective and forward-thinking is what this country desperately needs after being set back several decades, in almost every aspect, by our current backward-thinking President.

Even though not all jobs will automated right away, this current generation and the generation after will see a day where work is extremely scarce and we need to get the ball rolling on solutions now while its starting.
