In Denmark we have something called "Havregrynskugler" (Oat grain balls). It was created in 1943 as a way to make something sweet in an easy way during the WWII. It doesn't require any cooking or electricity. They are popular around christmas, but can be eaten any time of the year. 250 gram of oats 150 gram of powdered sugar 50 gram of unsweeten cocoa powder 150 gram butter, soft but not melted. 1 or 2 tablespoons of liquid, can be water, coffee, juice, rum, whisky, pisang ambon, amaretto, etc. Coconut flour, not too finely grind. Mix all ingredients in a bowl except coconut flour. Roll (in your hands) into small balls at a the approx. size of a pingpong ball. Then cover with coconut flour - easily done on a plate. Enjoy.
I thought this sounded just like Swedish chokladbollar, and did some research. It seems likely that havregrynskugler came first and that the recipe traveled north the same year (14 December 1943) to a Swedish news article where it was also marketed as a Christmas treat, even though we don't associate them with Christmas at all nowadays. Here, it's a huge staple in every day fika-culture, and instead of options of different kinds of liquids, we always use coffee when making chokladbollar. We roll them in coconut flakes or nib sugar most commonly.
I used to do something similar to this for my picky toddler, except I would blend my oats in a vitamix and put the home made oat flour in the freezer. Then I would just scoop out a little at a time and make oat flour chocolate mug cakes in the microwave for my little one. Super quick and healthier than store bought cakes. Sometimes I would even sneak in mashed black beans into the batter 😉
i do a savory version, like a lil oat bread, every morning in one of those little round tiny frying pans for eggs. i do 1 full tblsp oats, 1 egg, a tblsp of water, a teasp of baking powder and a pinch of salt. fry in very low burner, turn it when first side is done, add cheese to the top side, turn it again for a cheese crust. a ma zing. ❤️

I do something similar but in the microwave: 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup milk (can use nut milk), around 3T of sugar or sweetener (I usually use four packets of Splenda, which is slightly more than that, but close enough), and 1/2 tsp of baking powder. If the oatmeal isn't fine enough I grind it first. The entire thing can be mixed in the cup in which it's "baked." I then put it in the microwave for 60-90 seconds. The later tastes like banana bread but no added sugar! So yummy! Sometimes I’ll use sour apple slices instead of a banana just to change it up and that’s pretty good too.
I’ve been making baked oats for long time now. I mix the quick Quaker oats as they are - no pulverizing. Just add almond milk to same amount of oats, bit of plain flour, 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup and baking soda…no egg. Occasionally add blueberries to the mix but mostly raisins. Pour mix into large muffin pan - dash of brown sugar on top - bake - comes out in individual servings. 6 muffins using the large size pan. Then I take each and wrap individually-and microwave one in the am. Serve with butter or jam or plain.
I love Oatmeal and cream of wheat! So yummy! Really sticks with you also. If I eat a pop tart or even toast and jam I find I'm hungry again really soon, but a big bowl of Oatmeal will easily carry me 4 or 5 hours.

So...when I was pregnant with my first child, all I craved was oatmeal. Let me tell you my favorite way to make it. First, simmer a box of raisins in a pot for about 40 minutes. Set aside to cool. Strain the raisin juice, add an ice cube, to make sure juice is cold. Oatmeal cooked starting in cold water is creamier than adding oats to boiling water. Measure desired amount of juice for how many servings you make, a single box of raisins is about two servings. Put juice in pan, add a pinch of salt, cinnamon, and cloves, add oats, I like the longer cooking oats than instant. Slowly bring to boil, stirring constantly until cooked. Then fold in the cooked raisins. I do not use milk, but do add a pat of butter and tablespoon of sugar. Done. Now, if you add baking powder, a tablespoon of flour, and an egg, it would make muffins! But this recipe is the best of all the oatmeal recipes I’ve cooked.
A video on Monday?!? ILL TAKE IT!! 😍 It’s always such a long stretch from Saturday to Thursday. It makes my day to see an Emmy notification pop up on my phone!
My favorite combo is to use chocolate and coconut, and just a touch more honey... I've been "blender-ing" my oats for years, then mixing and cooking on stove top or in microwave. 😉 I've also used the pulverized oats in place of some of my AP flour in muffins and quick breads!
These sound AMAZING!!! The Morning Glory sounds the best to me. I'd bake these on the weekend and put on the refrigerator. Just a pop in the microwave and my family has a healthy breakfast that can be (and often is) on the go!!
I make perfect oatmeal in my microwave all the time. Put a small handful of old fashioned oats in a deeper than usual glass or ceramic bowl, cover oats with water with a small amount pooling on top of the oats and nuke for 2:45. Done. The oats can overflow the bowl if you add too much water. A deeper bowl helps alleviate that issue too.
Love taking the flavoured oatmeal (maple/brown sugar, strawberry, blueberry, peach) grind it into flour & bake it into bread, cookies (no additional cups of sugar needed), muffins.
I like quaker oats. I eat it with chocolate milk for breakfast. I never tried baking with them. For a vegan version, I would replace the honey with brown sugar and the egg yolk with silky tofu and/or vegetable oil. I wonder if you would get a spongier result by adding whipped eggs/aqua faba after the mixing.
Emmy, these look great with one exception, well maybe two. I’m not a picky eater but two things that I really don’t like are oatmeal and bananas. I do love oatmeal cookies. You kind of answered my question when you tasted the first cake like delicacy and said it was very bananay but did you taste the banana in the other two. I would love to find a oatmeal snack that’s as healthy as your berry one. Thank you s much for putting so many different and strange things in your mouth. I’ll never forget the geoduck. That was a sight that ingrained itself onto my brain💜☮️💜
Same re bananas, I was wondering if you could subsitute an unsweetened apple sauce for the banana, or maybe sweeten the apple sauce with honey and omit that when you make the cakes. I'm not sure if it would work but it might be worth a try!
I have been working on a similar recipe. The texture is a bit squidgy and that's ok most of the time, but if I'm really in the mood for cake I add 1-2 tbs flour per 1c oats. Also some erythritol.
This is one I'll definitely try because I've got a LOT of porage oats in the cupboard (the company I get my organic stuff from has a "surprise, surprise" option and you get something that you don't know what it is going to be until it arrives. I have 2 on each order and can't eat oats that fast, but this looks like a great way to use some up), but I'm going to swap out the banana for mango because although I like bananas I don't like then in things or stuff that tastes like them. I'll let you know how it goes.
Hey there! Long time fan, love your recipes. I tried looking on your website for the recipe for these blended oatmeal cakes, but could not find it. Could you give the exact link? Thank you so much!
Ran out of flour before so I used oat for over half of my muffins batter and it turns out good...now I know I can actually substitute with oat in full ......nice sharing :)
Lol...Funny how you read my mind Emmy 😅🤭Lately I have been wanting to make these and actually did the choc chip one last night.Right out of the oven I didn't like it so much but I put them in the fridge overnight then this morning I put some whipped cream on top and thin sliced strawberries 😋👍🏻So much better.I'll be trying the berries one ,Nutella and a cheesecake version eventually.❤️

Go back in time far enough to olde Scotland and you’ll find that to save on fuel costs the cooks would make a large quantity of oat’s into a type of porridge which would be served hot the same day and any excess to the days needs would be poured into an empty clean drawer, either in the kitchen dresser or table and allowed to set up. While the porridge was partially set the cooks would cut the block of oats into portions and then once it was fully set it could be removed from the drawer, separated into bars and could be used as a pocket food for family members who had to travel like herder’s or merchants, or it could be easily accessible as a breakfast bar for all members of the household, for any time of the day.
I’ve been making cupcakes, cakes and pancakes from oat flour for 8 years. Btw if anyone doesn’t know oat flour is literally just blended oats. What I will say is that everything turns out really fluffy and can fall apart easily. If you eat eggs, you can add that as a gluing agent.
You can find recipes where you bake them whole, and others where you grind them up like this, and both are great! And super easy. You can even make pancakes out of oats, very similar to this recipe.
omg emmy! i'm thinking apple cinnamon ones, some with cookies and cream with oreo bits, and orange cranberry combo (with orange juice, zest and cranberries) thank you so much !!!
I'm one of those weird people called adults. Because I'm an adult, I eat oat meal for breakfast. This morning my wife said, "If you really loved me, you wouldn't be giving me oat meal for breakfast." I said, "Because I love you, I put peanut butter and honey in your oat meal." When my wife goes away on business trips, I don't pretend. I put Cheerios in two zip lock bags and eat one bag of Cheerios on the way to work. Then I eat the other bag of Cheerios for lunch. Adults are the strangest people.

Love it Emmy! Thank you ! Thank you! I 'll try right away
The after dinner mints of these videos are so funny. Sometimes it’s a burp and other times she’s an action hero with spoons!
Oil in the measuring spoon is genius! 😊
This is how I used to bake birthday cakes for my dog! Add peanut butter for flavor. No sugar and drizzle with plain yogurt
@@surpriseitscaz Thanks for the idea. It’s worth a try. I wonder if Emmy would experiment with it and get back to us?
I have been working on a similar recipe. The texture is a bit squidgy and that's ok most of the time, but if I'm really in the mood for cake I add 1-2 tbs flour per 1c oats. Also some erythritol.
Thank you! Looks yummy!
I make almond flour cakes and pancakes like this for breakfast. I keep the carbs low but it still feels like a treat.
I love that oiled spoon/ honey trick! 🍯 Genius, will be using it. Thanks Emmy 🥰
This looks absolutely delicious! Would love to see more healthy recipes! ❤️❤️❤️
Love that you leave the oopses in
I love oatmeal too! Can't wait to see what you make with it here! 😋 I too make my oats in the rice cooker, comes out perfect every time. 😊
I was just thinking about finding a recipe for baked apple and cinnamon oats this morning: perfect timing here!
Thanks Emmy. Love oatmeal!😍🍫 It's great in meatloaf instead of bread or crackers too😉
Lol...Funny how you read my mind Emmy 😅🤭Lately I have been wanting to make these and actually did the choc chip one last night.Right out of the oven I didn't like it so much but I put them in the fridge overnight then this morning I put some whipped cream on top and thin sliced strawberries 😋👍🏻So much better.I'll be trying the berries one ,Nutella and a cheesecake version eventually.❤️
TY Emmy, I’m gluten free and traveling in the RV. How easy, simple, delicious, and healthy. Yay!
......oat flour. Ground down oats equate to oats flour. Your recipe of oat flower, egg, banana, and rising agent.....cake. oat flower sugar alternative cake. I like it a lot. Thank you so much for making this!
Oh Emmy this looks delicious! Thanks for another soothing foodie video to enjoy 🥰
Looks good. Thanks for sharing. Might have to try it.
Just got ingredients to make some of these. Saw them on TikTok at first, happy to know they're the real deal now. Also, that oil in the measuring spoon for the honey.. game changer.
Going to make these for sure...I also make a banana breads with oat flour...it's really tasty.
I tried and succeeded in making those 2 ingredients bagels on my channel!! Yum!! And this looks interesting as well
did they taste good the next & following day too?
@@jmsl910 idk I made them today but they're gone now lolol
That oil and honey thing is so life-changing
Thank you for the cozy video, and the interesting recipe
We can always rely on Emmy ❤️♥️
I was thinking about trying this for breakfasts and I’m very happy to see a true review
i have not even finished the video before I had to stop and comment, OMG! the oiled spoon for honey, lightbulb moment for me thank you! simply genius in it's simplicity!
I make pancakes out of a very similar batter. Oats can be subbed for flour in lots of baked goods. :)
I'm imagining the chocolate version scaled up as a brownies recipe.
I love putting oats in my pancakes!!!! I made oatmeal soufflé and absolutely loooooooved it!!!!!
Ooooh! THAT sounds good!!!
@@Douby100 outmeal soufflé is incredible
That chocolate one is a brownie!!! Yay- all of these look wonderful!
Loved this idea 💡
That oil in the tablespoon is genius
Cannot wait to make this
Great for lunchbox dessert & sneaking in something kinda healthy!
I eat overnight oats every morning. I mix some chia seeds in there too along with almond milk. It’s delicious 😋
I’m convinced at this point, Ms. Emmy *forgetting* is a total bit, and I’m 100% here for it! LOL 😂
YOU ALWAYS forget to plug it in 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ur so funny. ❤️
Lol this time actually it was the power strip hah still funny.
Emmy!!!! You just gave me good ideas 😀 Thank you so much 💓 😘
The trick to get honey out of the spoon was so stinkin' smart!!
We often eat raw oats with milk/yogurt and fruit. Very substantial and easy. Love your recipe!
I’ve been making cupcakes, cakes and pancakes from oat flour for 8 years. Btw if anyone doesn’t know oat flour is literally just blended oats. What I will say is that everything turns out really fluffy and can fall apart easily. If you eat eggs, you can add that as a gluing agent.
always love your new videos. thank you. will be making these soon.
Thank you! I hope you like them.
I absolutely LOVE oatmeal! However, I’ve never tried baked oats before! 😍
You can find recipes where you bake them whole, and others where you grind them up like this, and both are great! And super easy. You can even make pancakes out of oats, very similar to this recipe.
Sounds delicious!
What a yummy looking cake. Got to try this
This is definitely a recipe I’m going to try! We make overnight oats a few days a week and this would be a nice change with similar ingredients! Yum!
Could you also pre-make the batter and bake it whenever needed? Or is it better to bake it straight away?
Thank you. I have been wondering if these baked oats recipes tasted good. Know I think I will give them a try. ☺😋
Yummy those look absolutely delicious
Try it with pumpkin or cooked sweet potato and pumpkin spice in place of the banana. It's yummy and great for diabetics.
omg emmy! i'm thinking apple cinnamon ones, some with cookies and cream with oreo bits, and orange cranberry combo (with orange juice, zest and cranberries) thank you so much !!!
First time viewer here , you are so much fun and unscripted . These turned out incredible 💕
Looks like a nice school lunchroom item. Nice video
Thank you!
