@@mr.barcode3186 In my opinion the Cybus cybermen brought them back to their roots of being 'enchanced' humanoid devoid of emotion. These cybermen, while not bad, are far too emotional compared to the originals.

I don't see why anyone hates the redesign nowadays. Yes, Classic Doctor Who fans seem to feel that the original were better because they were much more humanoid-like, but it has been time since then. The Cybermen came along because of humanoids replacing bits and pieces of themselves until there was very little organic matter left. If they thought that organic matter was so insufficient, why doesn't it make sense to continue to upgrade until they were even more robot-like in the future? Both are canon. It seems every time we see them Classic or New they always seem to look different and more modern. Am I the only one who thinks that it only makes sense that they have become more robotic since those times, because you must remember that it has been centuries since they looked liked this in the classic series. They had plenty of time to think they needed to be less organic. But that's that's just my opinion.
The problem is that it makes sense from an in-universe perspective but not from a narrative perspective. The only solution I can think of is to bring an older version back for an episode.. oh wait.
For a being with no emotions, the Cyber Leader was always so grouchy in the 80's! This entire special was fanservice from start to finish, it doesn't hold up to any kind of analysis, just enjoy it.
This special edition was rubbish. Removing things like this and arsing about with Rassilon’s voice. It was dreadful. Much preferred the broadcast version.
The cybus cybermen are what the original cybermen would have originally become due to constant upgrading but Cybus cybermen come from another universe.
Bit of random trivia, the opening line here "Soon be there!" is the line they used for thr 5th Doctor on Day of the Doctor in the "All Thirteen" scene.
They were my favourite version of the Cybermen. The new ones don't really cut the mustard.....but then.. it's great to have Doctor Who back on the tele regardless.
They took this clip from the special edition made in 1995 for VHS and later DVD release. Unfortunately, by adding those unnecessary shots of the Castellan operating the transmat they also had to rework the musical cues. But they took the music directly from the master recordings without the alterations made in the transmitted version, so the timings are all messed up. The crescendo originally kicked in with a shot of the Cybermen approaching the Doctor. Now it's when the Doctor is picking up the recall device. It totally ruins the scene for me. In fact, the pacing throughout the entire "special edition" version is awful.
We not going to talk about how The Master lands on his back, then in the very next shot he's laying face-down? (okay I'll admit it -- it took me 40 years to notice this 🤣)
It was once described as a bycycle bell but with a push button similar to a door bell, and the Seal of the High Council was a mirror on one side and Prydonion seal on the other as that was a reused design dating back to the Deadly Assassin.
It's not a yo yo. Its an air freshener painted gold, the little button he pressed sprays it out. For just being a cheap plastic air freshener ,it doesn't look to bad.
Now, thanks to Ncuti Gatwa, we finally have our first moustached Doctor! (I know Tom Baker and Matt Smith each had temporary beards for at least one episode during their respective runs, but I believe Ncuti is the first to have a moustache whilst playing the Doctor. Besides, those aforementioned beards are clearly fake ones glued on, whereas Ncuti's moustache seems to be real, so either way it's the first time the Doctor has been played by someone with real facial hair. Oh and Peter Cushing doesn't count because he never played "the Doctor", instead only playing only "Dr. Who".)
@TsoLan1 The music cues aren't as well timed in this version though. In the original the music kicked in full as soon as they saw the Cybermen, and swelled when the Cybermen were marching towards the Doctor & co. Much better that way in my opinion. Plus they waited too long to cut the shots in this version, and seeing the Castellan suddenly pop up is very distracting.
The addition of the person working the transmat at the end doesn't make sense (it wasn't in the original cut). Pressing the button on the device is what triggers it, so why would someone at the other end also be activating it?
how can Susan not know who the master is? she's a Time lord too, isn't she? hell, she's RELATED to the Doctor! as in Knew him on Gallifrey! she HAS to know! I mean, I GUESS she might not recognize him (regenerations and all) but she has to have SOME idea...

She most likely didn’t know who the master is. She’s not a time lord. She’s Gallifreyan. A normal Gallifreyan, time lords are different to average Gallifreyan. Plus I’m pretty sure she wasn’t told about the master
Also keep in mind, this iteration of the Master isn't a true regeneration. He's a stolen body. Personal headcanon, that would throw off any familiarity Time Lords would have through regenerations.
Could you imagine if they got all twelve doctors in for the 50th? How crazy that would be? If you need to break them into groups, that's okay, I just want one bonkers 5 minutes where they're all together talking.
I'll be honest, as much as i love the original Cybermen, especially these ones, i always felt like they kind of missed the point of them being emotionless. I'm not sure, just how they interacted with one another, didn't seem 100% void of emotion.
That part confused me because you can tell he's shielding the Master from direct hits, but then just leaves him there and the Master felt abandoned. Doctor created a self fulfilling prophecy; he expected bad from the Master, left him there, and in turn the Master woke up to a life or death situation with cybermen. I felt bad for the Master in this episode. He genuinely seemed like he would've gone out of his way to rescue the Doctor and the extra regeneration cycle was an awesome bonus.
@Thenextworldwar They were wiped out in the Time War, but in this clip the Time War hasn't happened yet. The 1st Doctor ran away from Gallifrey. The Time Lords caught up with the 2nd Doctor and forced him to regenerate into the 3rd Doctor. After that, the Doctor still separated himself from the Time Lords, but would go on certain missions for them. The 8th Doctor fought in the Time War, before regenerating into the 9th Doctor. Since then, the Time Lords have been trapped in a time lock.
These Cybermen actually have expression and inflection. They don't march with stupid noises like *chick-Utch-chick-Utch*. Their weapons look good for the time. CONCLUSION! These Cybermen are better.

The fact that they couldn't see silver, metal men stomping down a hillside in broad daylight baffles me...
