Seriously, how isn't this on more people's radar? Trey Anastasio, Sarah Jarosz and Chris Thile backed by a killer house band. And playing a great Phish tune to boot. It doesn't get much better than this...
This song is pure heaven. It's honestly the first Phish song I heard while smoking a bowl with a guy who was there to support my band at Shippensburg college partying one night. We sat in his car smoking a bowl and he played me this and I loved it. I was in 11th grade then (circa 1999) and I am 40 now and just caught my 12, 13, and 14th Phish shows this weekend.
Yeah, he's reportedly been 100% clean (both drugs and alcohol) since his arrest in December 2006 and the 14-month Drug Court program he was put in. If you like his stuff from pre-breakup Phish, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the monster, instant classic 36-minute "Tweezer" from last week, on 12/30/19; the official Phish youtube channel has it up in 4k HDR. To me, starting around the 9 or 10-minute mark, the rest of that song is up there with some of the best improvised stuff I've ever heard. This past summer, there was also a documentary film ("Between Me and My Mind") released about him, his life, work/band, and how he was coping with one of his closest friends losing a battle with cancer
The sinner Jim Whitney I hear what your saying. That edge where creativity and intoxication meet is certainly a fascinating frontier most worthy of exploration.
All I have to say is I have been seeing Trey and Phish since 94. I grew up listening to Jerry and the dead. When Jerry passed I was living in the between era Jerry and Trey. I loved them both why??? Because they both love yes love just playing. They both know and knew they have a bigger purpose. But at the end of the day that just want to play… It’s there music , there souls keep playing and sharing…
What a fantastic performance. Must have watched a couple dozen times now. That little nod of approval Trey gives Sarah is magic. Truly love this everyone involved is spot on.
Trey is one of the best guitarists that America has ever produced. Check out phish if you want wild stuff and check out his solo work if your want more chill stuff like this.
Thanks so much for watching clips of Live From Here, if you enjoy this checkout Chris Thile and Punch Brothers new musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour. Season one is streaming here: bit.ly/ecmh-season1
I search out every version of this song. Since Page and Trey did it on December , I associate it with the last weeks with my female dog. If I could I would….have taken away her pain.
Trey has matured quite a lot. Nice bc I have matured with age too, I wonder how younger phans feel about a song like this. Can they appreciate how such Ana amazing song like this came to fruition?
60's&70's were truly a Great time for music.Grateful Dead, Grateful Dawg it's all been leading us to this moment. Take the best and move ahead. The next Renaissance is upon us. Be glad you can attend.
Wow. This is beautiful. Trey is a genius and can play anything, but Sarah is the key to this song. Her harmonies add so much. I can see Trey having a side project in the future with a female vocalist (maybe Sarah?).
So, I can't say that I can tell if you are serious or not, but yes, Trey does (and has for a while) have a band (oddly enough called the Trey Anastasio band) and it has two female vocalist/instrumentalists, Jenifer and Natalie and they are both exceptional. They do an equally intense version of this song, with horns, that is worth seeking out. Not to downplay Sarah, who is stellar in every regard, but Trey definitely has the female co-vocalist thing covered.
little known fact, Trey and Sarah shared a shabby apartment for 13 days following this performance... strictly platonic mind you... jeez keep your mind out of the gutter man!
It kills me when people bash Phish cause they're a "stoner band", this is a seriously great song and it builds so nicely. Hoist is an incredible album, too, there were tons of great guest musicians in the studio for that one.

Are you really Jeff Daniels? TBS has been playing Dumb and Dumber on repeat the past couple weeks so this would make sense for me.
@@JE-eb2tn Ha! Nope not THE Jeff Daniels (although I've seen some of his movies...) Never saw D and D. Just a lover of fine music and musicians.
This is PERFECTION
The best stuff needs to be found
Exactly, I just stumbled into it too. So awesome.

Alpine run?
Sounds like he was gentle with you. So brave. Love is love. Thanks for sharing. Hope everyone in your life was supportive of you coming out.
Ship!
Sarah is an incredible talent. Everyting she does is great. From the Goat Rodeo to her solo stuff to I'm with Her. Wonderful
Brings tears in the eyes of an old rocker.
I love Trey. But I cannot love these musician more. I need to learn about Chris Thile and the band. Just perfect!
Gave me chills reminiscing of the 90s smoking weed and cruising in the Pontiac
Me too. Couldn't get enough of hoist.
Pontiac ---> We Build Excitement. =]
That was my entire high school career.
pontiac
Shit I still do this! Lol
Havent followed Trey over the past 10 years. He's sounding clean.

Way clean.
Agreed, and I’m more than glad for him, but maybe a touch TOO clean?
The sinner Jim Whitney I hear what your saying. That edge where creativity and intoxication meet is certainly a fascinating frontier most worthy of exploration.
@@novakaya It the band he's playing with. He's been on top his game in sobriety.

This gives me all the feels. Sarah Jarosz's voice, the strings section, Trey... So good.
Sarah puts the butter to this tune!
Trey is an ignorant, immature, egotistical, coward.
Much respect to Jon Fishman. He should either quit the band, or kick Trey out.
What a fantastic performance. Must have watched a couple dozen times now. That little nod of approval Trey gives Sarah is magic. Truly love this everyone involved is spot on.
Music is the world's only true religion.....this performance is a perfect example of that.
a wee part - could never be greater - than the whole
You are so right, @feetheweasel!
How could they NOT choose this song when they have such a wonderful female vocalist to accompany Trey?
This was special.
Trey my dude.....elegant beauty, soul and gentleness suits you well my man. You grew up! Keep going!
Truth.
Right on
Never heard of Trey but assume he wrote this beautiful song. I'm in love with Sarah!! What a duo!!!!!!!
Trey is one of the best guitarists that America has ever produced. Check out phish if you want wild stuff and check out his solo work if your want more chill stuff like this.
I’d also say check out Billy Breathes for a similar vibe to this song
It was originally recorded with Allison Kraus on vocals as well. So pretty.

The musical joy on the two lady musicians faces is fabulous! Love it!

I hope you’ve found healing from your pain ❤
Trey can do anything musically, But I really like this and where Trey is in late 2020, hopefully, 2021 will be the best year in existence.
My favorite version…she has a beautiful voice
❤ not even one of my favorite Phish songs, but it still has so much soul!
Ugh. Man I haven't listened to this song in a long long time. Too many feels associated with it. Really beautiful job on this Trey and Co.
OMG, What a wonderful performance of a brilliant song 💘

Nothing like a woman's harmony with this. I always deeply miss it when phish does it.
The album version is perfection
Best band Trey ever played with! This is aweome!
They should tour!
you mean besides Phish???

Treyster 💫 Trey the brave. He’s my superhero.
Absolutely gorgeous.
This is Golden. I put Trey right up there with David Gilmour as a lead player who always seems to choose the right notes.
Beautiful 😍 when when could gather in the name of what's truly important.

This is very nice ... Love almost anyrhing Chris Thile is on.. But I like Pat Metheney and Lyle Mays' song of the same title as well...❣

Who is playing bass on this song? I enjoyed it very much. Thanks.
Mike Elizondo

Fills me up!
The theme was really good too
Why is not the brilliant Sarah Jarosh mentioned above?
........trey & fiddle player go the vibe!
❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶
Thile is a wicked ping pong player. Loved next time at Murray state in hart hall. Dude was nails
Sarah Jarosz is so talented.
The fiddle player is on point! Musically and stylistically fashionablisticy
Take me to another place, she said.
wow
This house band is like the roots for white people. Great song.
Overrated and a backing band for a Shitty talk show?
@@rjphilla The Roots are overrated and Jimmy Fallon has a shitty talk show? What planet do you live on?
@@rjphilla Asshole, this is above you. It's not even a talk show, you absolute fool.
"Hi we need you to be Alison Krauss for 5:53. No pressure whatsoever".
Trey often looks like he's trying to spot something in the rafters. But seriously great song.
He’s playing for God brother, looking Him right in the eye!
Haha, my buddy and I always said it's us he is looking for!
Shes a great stand in for alison kraus
Be careful this may make grown men feel emotional
TREY FACE!!!!!
😊💚😊
Chris needed more volume on the mic
Trey just walks off at the end and leaves the girl in the pink starstruck.
And that girl just won the Grammy for Americana Album of the Year. :)
