    Thanks for this. Just got a cheap mountfield with a Honda engine second hand off facebook for £30 but it has a wheel locked. Looks like this could be the solution, I'll give it a go at the weekend!

      @@JLPicard440 as it turns out the belt pulley for the self drive was knackered and it's not running right. Starts easily but won't idle and bogs down. Thoughts?

    do you have any tips or reason why the rear wheels on my craftsman all wheel drive walk behind are always on (engaged). It seems like the self propel levers only controls the front wheels.

      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Off the top of my head, I don't know. Im sure if I had it in front of me I could figure it out after tearing into it to see what the issue is.

    when I removed the snap ring the gear still does not come off. The lip/groove that the snap ring sits in is preventing me from getting the gear off. Should I just try more force ?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that is supposed to come off. I would spray with some WD-40 or PB Blaster and let it sit for an hour and try again. Try turning the gear back and forth as your pulling as well... Don't use pliers as you'll eat into the teeth of the gear.

    • @Rein_Ciarfella
      @Rein_Ciarfella 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the gear is sliding back and forth but not going past the snap ring groove then the hardened snap ring has galled the side of the groove, forcing a very small amount of metal above the groove. Hit it lightly with a fine file all around the groove to take down that ridge and the gear should slide off.
      If the gear isn’t moving at all then apply some penetrating fluid (PBBlaster works great) and work the gear a bit and it should free up. Sometimes it takes multiple applications over time to free up.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OIC... That usually doesn't happen. I can't see it so that's why I didn't suggest that. But yea if that is mushroomed up just a little bit that would definitely keep the gear from sliding off...

    thanks for the Video, my mower just started locking up today the Wheel would spin then Lock up, i let the Clutch go , take 2 steps back pulling the Mower then it would un-lock, it is locking up ever So often, my other issue the Front wheels have never Turned but only when you use the Cluch, last year i had to replace the Pully's .

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there could be something that's not turning freely in those front wheels... it's worth taking the wheels off to see...

      @@JLPicard440 someone did tell me that is normal for my type of Mower since it is a 4 Wheel drive mower.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say for sure. I've only had 1 or 2 of the 4 WD mowers and I don't remember how the wheels behaved. Seems like it should push freely in FWD or REV...

    How would you recommend removing the gear if it is rusted on

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe try some PB Blaster and let it soak for a while. Without being able to see it, it's difficult to say. Does it turn at all? IF even a little bit, you can work it back and fourth.

    I'm having this exact issue with a Husqvarna mower with a Honda engine. I haven't opened it yet but I think I may have lost some retaining pieces in one of my wheels which is off at a slight angle but they are both locked up. Where could I find parts for my wheel assembly?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HI, as to what could be missing that would be hard to say without being able to see it... I usually take the mower model number which is usually on a sticker on the body somewhere or it's on the grass flap in the back where the bagger goes. Then I take that model number and plug it into www.partstree.com Great website for looking stuff up like that. You can get the parts breakdown for the wheels and probably figure out what's missing.

      @@JLPicard440 I called a local mower guy and he came over with some tools and took one of my tires off. It turns out that a plastic shard (a piece of the wheel dust cover) came off and lodged itself into my wheel assembly! I couldn't believe it, never seen that happen before and still don't understand how it did happen. But there was also a lot of old grass in everything that had to be cleaned but it's working now.

    I have a Ryobi self-propelled the rear wheels roll freely forward but lock up going backward. Also, will not self-drive forward. What are possible solutions?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello... Without being able to see it, I could only guess. I actually haven't had the opportunity to work on to many Ryobis with this problem. I would certainly try and remove the drive wheels if they will come off without any special tricks and examine the mechanism to see if anything stands out.
