One of the things I like about these various gigs, is how they can subtly inform us on the fixers as well. Like with Family Matters. El Capitan initially tells us about the gig related to the data, but if you pay attention, he asks us about Juliet first. He says "hey i got this contact Juliet who was supposed to get me some data, but she went dark. Check on her for me will ya? Oh and uh....don't forget the data." Which I find interesting. The objective is "find the data" but HE asks us to check on her first. This happens a lot with Capitan and also Dino, that the context of what they are asking you to do, illustrates that they are fairly empathetic dudes, who don't want to hurt people. The missions themselves are either fairly altruistic or they hint at a more human/empathetic motivation for the gig, like Family Matters. Or with the case of Dino, it's the fact that most of his gigs have the "don't cause a mess" optional objective to them. He is WAY happier with you, if you can get in and out of his jobs without making it a chaotic bloodbath. And there is an NCPD event where you find a data shard conversation between Dino and a guy (now sadly a corpse), that shows how generous Dino is. The guy is another runner for Dino, from a job that went bad, and he's asking Dino for help, because the corpos are now after him. And Dino gives him the coords for one of his safe houses to try and keep the guy alive, and even says "I OFFERED you some backup on this gig, but you declined." He didn't ask for money, or a reduction in the runner's cut for the gig. He just got the message the guy was in trouble, and risked exposing one of his safe houses to the corpos to try and save him. Which I think is just some really good storytelling for these npcs, making them more than just missions dispensaries.
Funfact, in the witcher 3, one of the main quest in the early game is also call “Family matter” and one of the ending to that quest is Anna losing her mind same as Rose here
I went guns blazing after I stealthily killed the guard taunting Jasmine, but before freeing her. This method allowed me to shoot the receptionist as well.
Perhaps the dancing/drinking robots and the card-playing robots are proxies of some sort? Maybe some well-off people want to live out the "meet-up in a seedy motel" thing without actually endangering themselves. Also not unreasonable to think that someone may be playing with them for fun like one would with action figures.
But if they want proxies, why not use real people? If Hanako and rogue AI can control someone like a flesh puppet it stands to reason other people could too…
@@edgeIord Price and difficulty. Probably cheaper to slap together some robots out of scrap than to hire someone, and completely taking over someone unwilling is probably very difficult.
I agree, megabuildings are so cool and kinda underutilized in game, I hope we get some more missions in them with PL. Sometimes I just chill outside V's MB10 apartment and I just look across the chasm at all the doors and windows and imagine the stories happening behind each. I also love how it can be the middle of the afternoon yet inside the building it looks like night because they're so huge the block out the sun.
You could literally have an entire game take place within a mega building. Different floors have different levels of affluence, ones like V's place, with trash everywhere, people living in the corridors all the way up to the penthouses at the top. Gang wars, personal problems different, shops and services. Kind of a mix of 2077 and Dredd 2013.
I don't know if I agree with the sentiment that megabuildings are underutilized in this game. First, V lives in H10, so we get a pretty good look at what one floor of a megabuilding is like, with apartments, stores/cafes, a crime scene, even a gym (even if most of them are not interactable). Then we also have that entire Clouds sub-plot with multiple missions taking place in H8, which again gives us a good look at what kind of shady businesses can be found in a megabuilding. Finally, there are several gigs that take place in various megabuildings across the city. Yes, gigs are fairly small missions by nature, but still we get to explore a number of different locations inside the megabuildings, like apartments, server room, utility/maintenance room, the roof, the penthouse etc etc. If all of this content was set in a single megabuilding, it would've felt pretty well utilized imo. At the end of the day CDPR had to populate an entire city and spread content around the map, so I think they gave us a decent look at what life in megabuildings is like with resources they had. I think to explore a megabuilding fully we'd need an entire game set there, like others suggested. Or it could have been a pretty cool location for a DLC. It's just a shame CDPR decided to only release one expansion. At least we got Dogtown, so I can't complain.
During the gig cuckoo's nest, I went back into the hospital after doing it stealthily, and killed everyone with gorila arms. 10/10 gig definitely one of my favorites.
I genuinely didn't know Karl could die in the Nasty Hangover gig, I just always striaght up murdered the Kang Tao operatives xD! It was a super exciting series, thank you for making this. I truly hope there will be more to uncover when Phantom Liberry'll drop.
I've developed a theory that the Cuckoo's Nest gig has another reference that goes way over people's heads. I believe the Dr. Jacob Shipman is reference to English serial Killer Dr. Harold Shipman. Who like the quest was involved in drugs as well. He had a drug problem and was known to overdose his victims, and he mostly killed woman. So I find kinda fitting that your saving one.

this is possibly my favourite series of cyberpunk 2077 videos, so well researched and executed. this must've been a monster to edit together, well done. also, i would love a video covering some of the extended material coming out like all the comics and the upcoming novel
Man....your series really helped me appreciate the side quests more. I didn't pay attention to a lot of the shards so a lot of these details I really didn't know about o.o
I've noticed a theme with "El Capitan's" gigs: He almost never tells you the real reason your doing the job. He lies all the time, so much so he can't keep track of what lie's he has told you. That's why he has so many Dialog "inconsistencies".
A quick note on the Severence Package mission: Rereading the terminal entry, it's Cytech that wants to nix the neural safeguards and the updated drivers. The Corp seems to be set on cutting those options to "Prioritize a Competitive Market Price."
I noticed something interesting about Desperate Measures gig. When the gig was first added to the game in the patch 1.6, I remember very clearly that it ended with V parking the car inside a workshop and there was even an e-mail on the PC inside from El Captain ordering the workers to dismantle it afterwards to remove evidence. However after one of the smaller patches, the ending was changed to V just simply leaving this car at the designated parking lot. I wonder what was the reason behind this change. Only thing that comes to mind is that they decided to use that workshop for something else in the Phantom Liberty update, maybe in relation to El Captain new services.
Coincidence about the moral outcry of XBDs. Been awhile since I seen the series so may be misremembering. David sold those types of BDs to other students. At the very least, he was very familiar with JK's Edgerunner series. The opening scene is one of those XBDs.
This series introduced me to your channel. Thank you for creating these videos man. I didn't know that some of these gigs are connected to ncpd hustlers and i missed a lot of story and lore but these videos really helped me understand the story of these gigs. Made me really appreciate the work of cdpr and how deep the lore can get. Looking forward to the new videos/series!
I love that these gigs show us that Night City is much bigger than V. The Witcher series had one protagonist that we got to experience a lot with. I’d love it if that trend continues with Cyberpunk. There’s so many plot lines with V that haven’t been fully explored.
It's a cool idea, but I seriously doubt it. Geralt is the main protagonist of the books, that's why he persisted throughout all the games. V is just a generic PC, he has a gender-neutral name, we can customize his appearance any way we want, he's basically the equivalent of Tav in BG3. So I'm 99% sure Cyberpunk 2 will have a different character. Likely another custom character with a new voice actor and a different letter of the alphabet for a name lol
The thing about illegal BDs is they allow you experience things as if you did them yourself. So while the gig might be a spoof on overprotective paents Speaking out against video games, Bootleg, raw BDs are more like drugs in schools rather than vidoegame violence activism.
I gotta say, after the game launched so roughly and the story didn’t really go the way I hoped it would where we could totally wreck all the corporations like I wanted, I really didn’t enjoy the game that much. But after finding your channel I can finally say that I’ve fallen back in love with the game like I did when I first booted it up, when it had the most potential. Thank you for the incredible content and I can’t wait for the insane content that you’ll put out when phantom liberty launches!
Thank you for this awesome series. So many connections that never registered coz when I was actually doing the gigs the details would blur afterwards and I could never remember where exactly I’d heard a name that sounded vaguely familiar.
That last gig hit different for me as my grandpa died of ALS, it was a painful reminder but I'm oddly glad to see that maybe in the future people will have some glimmer of hope against it.
17:30 Wendy's responded to a tweet asking them to open a location near the original poster. They were out of uber's delivery range and Wendy's said to move closer lol.
Ik this has probably been said before, but it's finally awesome to see more in-depth videos about Cyberpunk 2077s lore/world I hope Phantom Liberty adds so much more to it
Never really cry in games, but Cuckoos nest really got to me for some reason, and I broke down when she was with her husband again. It made me so happy. Tw the song they used when Johnny died is forever what I think of when you use it and that made me cry to:(. Great vid ✌️
I got extremely mad at the mental hospital one... I thought it won't be that bad, so I took out the guards non-lethaly. But after reading the doctor's emails, I went back and cut everyone's heads off then let of a couple dozen grenades in the building
Re Desperate Measures; there are news stories that play in the background in various places that say that ALS is one of the few diseases that implants can't help with. It's a nerve problem that affects the brain, so replacing the rest of the body won't help. He's SOL in any case.
Another reference from the cuckoo's nest gig could be Dr. Shipman's name. Harold Shipman was an English general practitioner and serial killer. He is considered to be one of the most prolific serial killers in modern history, with an estimated 250 victims.
Fun fact with Cookoo's Nest. You can fail the mission after getting the target out of the ward. I got lost after leaving the back of the hospital and after a few minutes got a call from El Cap saying I failed.
Both robot encounters could be references to Futurama. I mean I can see Bender sitting there with a hookerbot drinking a beer, and the poker game too. Especially with the failed str check causing one robot to run.
Dr John Shipman in Cuckoo's Nest is certainly a reference to Harold Shipman, the UK doctor who is one of the most prolific serial killers in history, with around 250 victims tied to him.
Sam you are so right about "Hacking the hacker" When I first walked into the mega building I hoped it would be like a Dredd situation, locked down and fighting through levels to get to the bug bad, missed opportunity!!
In the Union strikes back you 100% can get the receptionist to move it’s a part of the dialogue with her and I did it in the last few weeks. I think the option is corpo tho.
I think a tiny detail you missed on the Cuckoo's Nest gig is that Dr. Jacob Shipman performing and overseeing these heinous acts is a very obvious real life reference to Dr. Harold Shipman who was a British medical doctor in the late 90s / early 2000s. He is estimated to have murdered up to 250 of his elderly patients while he was in practice, though in the end they only could solidly convict him on the murder of about 15 of them. One of the worst serial killers in British history. As a fellow Brit it surprises me you didn't make that connection, Sam.
I'm ashamed to say I haven't heard of the guy (may have been a little before my time, or I just live under a rock with certain things). I'll do some research :)
I never stopped to read the names, so I never knew how interconnected the game really was. These videos singlehandedly makes me want to replay the game a little slower.
idk if anyone's mantioned it, but in severance package if you set the metal detector to friendly mode, you can walk right through it and the enemies will not be hostile to you. You can around like you own the place. Similar to Corpo V during Gimme Danger.
I initially completed the hospital gig stealthily. Afterwards i took off my cyberware that makes sure i dont kill anyone and i murdered every single last one of the guards in there
Fun little thing in Watson in the 1st act near the quest location for welcome to America comrade under the bridge to right of the ramp/elevator there is a robot that you can activate with 5 technical and it will dance it has nothing to do with anything but it's kinda funny
46:58 You can also quickhack enemies to end vehicle combat abruptly, however this gig is glitched if you do that (at least for me). Taking out the first car using short circuit will end the car chase and put you in a driving loop. I don't know if anyone else had this issue but it was entertaining to witness
In the "Union Strikes Back" gig, there is a Corpo prompt with the secretary, about you being sent here to shred some files, prompting her to leave the area to find out more. However, all it does is allow you to swipe the token, which as you've pointed out, can be done just by distracting her.
You can get rid of the Receptionist for the Vic Vega gig. You need to be a Corpo V though to get the option. You basically send her to the back for some files if I recall and can then freely take the access card while she gone. Thorin can also be killed by dropping, it's actually how I did it the first time. You have to do it off the small broken balcony that has the legendary clothing item and he will fall far enough to die from it. It sounds a bit sadistic but seeing as the Joanne Koch mission bugged out because I took the guards out before getting to her, the mission glitched out and the garbage transport never came. So I simply just dropped her off the side of the building to save time and ammo. The Rosie mission was not scary as I simply memory wiped her and choker her out in under 4 seconds. It as very anti climatic, enough that I don't use memory wipe any more as it also works on Smasher of all people lol.
49:25 I'm pretty sure she's ok with you taking him out yourself, you just have to do so without knocking him out first so that Rouge doesn't send the car over
When I did Nasty Hangover for the first time recently I didn't even wait around for anything, I saw the car approaching and instantly started hitting everyone with Synapse Burnout.
I did that last one after unlocking the Relic Tree in PL and I just blasted the Kang Tao cars with a Projectile Launcher System barrage right when they arrived. Didn't even give them the chance to park lol.
Mentally bookmarking each time you go on a tangent about another storyline going within the storyline, then say "but I'll have to make a video on that later" because I am very much looking forward to all of those
The comparison between the peralez BD email and modern day parents is a good one, parents definitely do go overboard with that sort of stuff. But something as immersive as a BD might be too far especially for kids, considering you can gets ones where you essentially experience murder or being murdered. It's conflicting lol on one hand it's annoying when people do this for video games but on the other hand I'd be one of those people with BDs.
49:44 if ur a corpo u can say something for the receptionist that makes her walk away to check something.. I forget exactly what u say, but u can grab the key card like that also
24:25 If they had called MaxTac, her grave would have been dug with a date of death already in place on the tombstone. MaxTac is always sent to exterminate, and very VERY rarely do they recruit.
It was weird playing the gig: Error 404, for the first time. The AI bugged out and the Sixth Street guys weren't hostile towards V. At first I went in sneaky but after a few stealth kills I realized I wasn't getting any detection markers from dashing around. So I just walked up to the terminal, hacked it, and walked back out. I do agree though, having recently helped Peralez out by letting him in on the brainwashing it felt weird that there wasn't an option to turn the propaganda machines in Peralez's favor.
Cuckoo's Nest is eerily similar to an episode of the show Tales from the Crypt. Where a woman sees a local doctor murder his wife, and is then committed to keep her quiet.
4.5 hours long? I guess that would be cool to supercut them. Maybe after Phantom Liberty with all of them. Would be tempted to order it worst to best as well but that'll probably mean changing my narration to recontextualise each. Might do it somewhen though :)
My favorite way to do For My Son is to use the secret entrance on the side of the animal’s gym, then use either overwatch or the suicide quickhack to take out Logan
the robots remind me of the one we can encounter as a patron at the Afterlife. I guess this is what it would look like if a Synth was wandering around without paper mache skin or looking like a regular human.
For the Nasty Hangover gig, I actually picked the f you option with Kang Tao and when they got in the car, I pulled out a grenade and thats the end of that lol
49:45 if you play a corpo V, you have one of the best unique dialogue related to lifepath and I really love how CDPR scripted it for the player to grab the key shard.
The funny thing is, I never got any of the dialog options for the guys in the car in "Nasty Hangover". As soos as their car doors started to open, I just tossed a grenade, and killed everyone in the car.. And the other two guys show up, and I just shotgunned them. The one mission with the cyber psycho lady almost felt like it was out of Resident Evil. She even gave me a jump scare when she came at me.
In the union strikes back if you picked the corpo life path you can say you're there for some files which will make the receptionist move to the closed off room behind her to look for said files
The Robots: Well that scene looked like a replay of Jamie Lee Curtis & Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies. So the other one could be another Arnold reference - and perhaps a commentary on his acting? Or maybe it's just the robots are Arnold fans after his Terminator performances.
Cyber psychosis is primarily triggered By extreme Stress and the lack of the ability to cope with it as well as sheer quality of augmentations That's why Adam smasher isnt a cyber Psycho cause he is a Sociopath and doesn't worry about anything
Hacking the Hacker is interesting, in all other assassination gigs, you have an option to incapacitate the target instead leading to alternative dialogue, this gig is the only one, i can think of, where non lethal isnt an option
17:15 I've actually had that happen I ordered a pizza from domino's just for them to call me saying they cancelled my order due to my area being considered dangerous because of one of their drivers being robbed near my neighborhood
I always feel like the "Super Stealth" Missions, which require you to go Stealth from start to finish Non-lethal, are the most infuriating but also most rewarding to pull off. My main issue with them is that the optimal build, using an Arasaka Software Sandevistan + Optical Camo and preferably Lynx Legs, makes them too easy. Truly a weird binary.
Love your videos. Also if you have a decent netrunner build, apparently you can even quickhack Rose from the safety of the camera control interface in Family Matters. Just my 2 ennies.
i think the nuke comment made by johnny is a reference to the now non canon 3rd cyberpunk tabletop game, where another nuke was dropped and destroyed night city (the one that now powers dogtown)
The reason those robots have names is probably becase they're actually using the animation rig of NC civillians, they've just swapped out the mesh to that of the robots
i remember reading the shard about children using BD's and immediately David came to mind and how his story ends in relation to how it begins, in his adolescence watching the cyberpsycho BD. while obviously its not a direct cause, its still an interesting thought about how it influenced his actions
Your work on the Cyberpunk videos hooked me, the fact that most of your videos are for some of my favorite games convinced me to subscribe. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for Starfield. Thanks.
I’ll mention that Cuckoo’s Nest seems like a take on Terminator 2, the scene where they break Sarah Conner out of the insane asylum. Jasmine even looks a bit like Sarah Conner.

I love the family matters gig so much, the way it was presented just really impressed me
That last gig hit different for me as my grandpa died of ALS, it was a painful reminder but I'm oddly glad to see that maybe in the future people will have some glimmer of hope against it.
It's crazy watching these videos and seeing V run around with a revolver that has a suppressor on it.
17:30 Wendy's responded to a tweet asking them to open a location near the original poster. They were out of uber's delivery range and Wendy's said to move closer lol.
Hacking the Hacker is one of my faves if only bc storming a megabuilding feels like Dredd, Esp when you break out the smart weapons
Ik this has probably been said before, but it's finally awesome to see more in-depth videos about Cyberpunk 2077s lore/world
I hope Phantom Liberty adds so much more to it
Never really cry in games, but Cuckoos nest really got to me for some reason, and I broke down when she was with her husband again. It made me so happy. Tw the song they used when Johnny died is forever what I think of when you use it and that made me cry to:(. Great vid ✌️
It’s cool to see I’m not the only one who called Reggie during Family Matters lol. Would’ve loved something outta that.
Can confirm you can Ma Ma the guy in hacking the hacker, it's a long way down.
I like to think the two robots playing cards is a reference to chappie as in the end the human become robot too
Really appreciate the wor you put into these videos. I wouldn't have pieced all of these details together. Thanks!
You also have some robots at some point in the Afterlife nightclub. I don't remember the specifics but talking to them was real funny.
Sam you are so right about "Hacking the hacker"
When I first walked into the mega building I hoped it would be like a Dredd situation, locked down and fighting through levels to get to the bug bad, missed opportunity!!
Love your videos. I truly enjoy how you explain those gigs ❤❤
I honestly wish we could’ve called Regina to get her to help Juliet’s sister
In the Union strikes back you 100% can get the receptionist to move it’s a part of the dialogue with her and I did it in the last few weeks. I think the option is corpo tho.
Your videos have helped me quench my Cyberpunk 2077 thirst while I wait for Phantom Liberty.
Two months left long as the date holds
Never trust a Doctor Shipman Folks the real life one was even worse.
idk if anyone's mantioned it, but in severance package if you set the metal detector to friendly mode, you can walk right through it and the enemies will not be hostile to you. You can around like you own the place. Similar to Corpo V during Gimme Danger.
Really can't wait to see the content you dish out for Cyberpunk 2077 2.0
😫
In severance package gig. If you hack the security scanner gate to disable the scanner. You can walk in for free.
I initially completed the hospital gig stealthily. Afterwards i took off my cyberware that makes sure i dont kill anyone and i murdered every single last one of the guards in there
Will be fun replaying after Phantom Liberty comes out.
Hey there Sam your content is genuine and thoughtfully put together man please continue your awesome work 😊🤘
Santo Dominguo is the capital of Dominican Republic. Translates to "Saint Sunday". September 26 I'll be taking a trip there...can't wait.
In the "Union Strikes Back" gig, there is a Corpo prompt with the secretary, about you being sent here to shred some files, prompting her to leave the area to find out more. However, all it does is allow you to swipe the token, which as you've pointed out, can be done just by distracting her.
Am I really going to watch nearly an hour of this? Yes.
What a great video, regardless of metrics, you always produce entertaining informative vids.
49:25 I'm pretty sure she's ok with you taking him out yourself, you just have to do so without knocking him out first so that Rouge doesn't send the car over
No her dialogue is very different if you deliver the dude alive and without killing anyone else.
@@pinnacleevolution1634 Uuuuhhhh, yeah... you're right... but I don't see how that invalidates what I said in any way...?
When I did Nasty Hangover for the first time recently I didn't even wait around for anything, I saw the car approaching and instantly started hitting everyone with Synapse Burnout.
cool thing about Cuckoo Nest is there's also some cool info about cyberpsychoses and how it's not as tech related as previously thought
Likely the Shipman part of the Doctor's name refers to British doctor and most prolific serial-killer in history: Harold Shipman
In Nasty Hangover I was a Netrunner. They all got quickhacked before they even got out of the car for me, lol I missed that entire convo 😂
Cuckoo's Nest is eerily similar to an episode of the show Tales from the Crypt. Where a woman sees a local doctor murder his wife, and is then committed to keep her quiet.
You should make one long video compiling this entire series!
4.5 hours long? I guess that would be cool to supercut them. Maybe after Phantom Liberty with all of them. Would be tempted to order it worst to best as well but that'll probably mean changing my narration to recontextualise each. Might do it somewhen though :)
@@SamBrameither worst to best or by district would probably work
My favorite way to do For My Son is to use the secret entrance on the side of the animal’s gym, then use either overwatch or the suicide quickhack to take out Logan
the robots remind me of the one we can encounter as a patron at the Afterlife.
To think that was the plan for the entire game if they hadn't rushed it out
The funny thing is, I never got any of the dialog options for the guys in the car in "Nasty Hangover".
Cyber psychosis is primarily triggered By extreme Stress and the lack of the ability to cope with it as well as sheer quality of augmentations
That's why Adam smasher isnt a cyber Psycho cause he is a Sociopath and doesn't worry about anything
17:52 Lucius actually dies if you throw him into a deeper place. Also: it sometimes takes a minute. I guess he has to bleed out or something.
