Heidi, you had me at Rhubarb! I added several more plants to my property this year so I’m saving this to look at again and will plan for this next year when I harvest!
Hi Heidi. I have seen other posts where people have also found rhubarb juice to be salty. The one common denominator I noticed was that those people were using methods to extract the juice RAW, rather than cooking the rhubarb to get a juice.
Interesting. Well, it is what I am going to keep doing from now on so not only does it preserve the vitamin C content in the rhubarb, it does make for a great flavor in the end product
I gave up drinking years ago but started making wine again a few years ago because of its MANY purposes in daily life: th-cam.com/video/frP2wgyOMDU/w-d-xo.html
I've never had rhubarb wine, soda, cysar, or mead but even with you saying it tasted salty to start I think I'll give it a shot. Either margarita wise as you did or perhaps a strawberry rhubarb wine.
I think I may have to try winemaking at some point. We aren't drinkers, but I can see the advantages. My sweet grandmother used to have a small amount before bed to help her sleep. Do you have a book recommendation for a hard copy reference? Thanks Heidi 😊😊
The only book on fermenting I have but have never used because, well, I usually just DO things, is this one: amzn.to/38ZHB0h I had bought it via Amazon from the used section and it is in perfect shape and even has the authors autograph
@@RainCountryHomestead very nice, thank you. I'm getting into that sunset of life and it's good to have stuff on paper for me. I watch the videos and know what I'm doing till I start doing it. Getting harder to add material to an increasingly leaking bucket. Thanks Heidi 😊
People who tried this at my son's wedding spill over reception here at our house that said they did not like wine, loved this. My sister related it to more of a cider than a wine.
GM Heidi ☕️. Second time watching lol and have a Question 🙋♀️. I don’t have an apple press but do have a steamer juicer I use for my foraging of elderberries. Would that work in place of a press 🤔. Would appreciate your opinion on this. Have a great day 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
I know some use it in place of a press for grapes, I an only assume it would work the same for rhubarb. My only issue is that it will cook the produce but that does not mean it will not still turn out good. I have just found the wine make from raw pressed grapes turns out better than the ones I make from cooking down the grapes and juicing them
@@RainCountryHomestead My brains a little slow lol. So do you put the rhubarb meat in with the juice for the wine? I’m thinking not. Right now I’m rendering venison fat for lard & I think my TBI is kicking in to overload🤨 I’m slowly coming back to doing things from accident 2.5 years ago. Thanks for the quick reply 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
It would be better to add more juice, even if it is another kind, however, you only need three quarts total because the starter and sugar added will make up another quart
It is very hot, this is one reason why you need to be careful with it. Many do take a drop under or on the tongue but one must be careful how much and how long. Taking oregano oil for an extended period of time can actually have a negative affect on the gut flora so use it for a time, then switch to something else

I have made lots of wines and meads and have never used that, I do not even understand why it is used.

My Grandpa made many different fruit wines including rhubarb! This was in the 70's and 80's. It was potent.
I don't drink, so making wine was never what I thought of doing, but you are so right it adds an amazing flavor to food. I may try it.

Good morning Heidi!🌄
Heidi, wonderful idea to make rhubarb wine. To offset the salty taste maybe make strawberry rhubarb wine.
I had the same salty experience with a Rhubarb shrub recently . I got used to it pretty quickly , definitely salt forward!

Oh my goodness what a delicious way to use up our rhubarb! I've just uploaded how to stew rhubarb on my channel 😊 God bless. Fiona.
I’m so interested.
Watermelon wine?? Lots of watermelon this year and I want to use it thanks
Never made it because melons of any variety do not do well here but yes, you can use the juice from any fruit to make wine

Has anyone ever read Wine making for dummies. I’m just curious because I thought I’d order it to see if that will help me learn.
💚🌞
i love me a margarita anytime...:) not a fan of wine, but i may just have to try this out!

Can you add water to the juice if you don't have a gal of juice?

Heidi can I use the Now brand Oregano Oil by putting drops under my tongue or should I dilute it. The Now website suggests not to take eternally

Potassium tastes salty so the salty taste could be due to high potassium content.
Oh my. Now doesn’t that look good
