      I’ve been saying that Astro Bot 🤖 remind me of Little Big Planet but been criticised. The Sackboy Adventure was a PS5 which then came out on PS4 too I have it and like it. Astrobot’s look, design of levels and style remind me of sackboy from what a I’ve seen nice to see a platform ear doing well. We don’t love shooters.

    I think you hit the nail with Dreams, as someone who has been a very active member since it's early access... the payoff of that game is great but takes too long to learn. It's especially apparent given the sheer scale of WHAT you can do in it.
    LBP at it's heart is a 2D platformer that had nifty tools to jerry-rig it into something else. Dreams was literally anything, it doesn't even have to be a game, you can use it however you want and it's hard to quantify how a more casual player could get something out of it.
    For instance I'm strictly a musician and treat Dreams as a DAW. I enjoy participating in music collaborations and sharing songs within the community; there is an entire side of the game I have BARELY touched and that's actually treating it like a video game. Meanwhile in LBP 1 & 2, I touched all corners of what could be done because it all looped back into the core of what the game was.
    Dreams was honestly the natural evolution of LBP but really lacked what made it easy to get into

    • @jaybee4288
      @jaybee4288 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I had a nice time with dreams and I’m not an expert by any means. But I made some of those tutorial games and played around with art music and some game stuff. But yeah, you get to the point where it gets too hard/takes too long. And the community while really nice were either making memes or just taking forever to make things that either didn’t get released or they didn’t share. I liked it but I think it would be better to just learn programming 😂

    • @pilotsayshello1758
      @pilotsayshello1758 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@jaybee4288 Programming is half the battle honestly, what makes Dreams easier to get into was it's curation system. Not much in that game is made from scratch and that's a good thing in all honesty.
      I know for sure my music wouldn't have developed a signature style without a special few individuals custom/imported instruments. Honestly don't know what I'd do without them. You can say the same about people's sculpts and logic elements.

    You make such a good point at the start - the shift from beautiful, colourful mascots to 'guy with brown hair and stubble who never smiles' is so depressing and a big part of why I mostly look to indie games. 6:30 you forget that Little Big Planet since the original 2008 has had like a billion paid dlcs. They could just make another Little Big Planet as normal but not outsource or rush it. Just do paid dlc costumes like normal that they have done since the PS3. Amazing video though, LBP is my favorite game off all time, thank you for helping keep it alive.

    • @pout6038

      It's like, the only game where i feel like paid DLC was actually fairly priced. There were a lot of DLCs, but none of them were particularly expensive which was great.
      LBP gave you a skin for $1 and a level pack for like $5-6. Modern games would charge you $10 for that 1 skin, or even just for a hat or something, and like $20-40 for a level pack.

    Media Molecule wanted Sackboy to be Playstation mascot, but Sony turned it down saying that Playstation doesn't need a mascot because they tried in the past with other characters but it never worked. It wasn't till a new studio called Team Asobi at the time who Sony owns decided to make a game called Playroom for Sony Playstation Camera and it had a character called Astro Bot to show case how the hardware works as a fun game and because Sony like that so much they also used Astro Bot for another game called Playroom VR for Playstation VR to show case the hardware works as a fun game, then when PS5 was being made Sony decided to use Astro Bot since they loved the character so much to show how the PS5 Dual Sense controller works with a demo installed on every PS5 called Astro's Playroom. Astro Bot now has become Playstation mascot because the character belongs to Sony and can show how Sony hardware works with neat little games.

      @leoleo1035 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      True, but only in the case they innovated more with Sackboy. It really never changed and was always "the same game" since the first title.
      It was great, absolutely great, but Astro Bot smashed so hard that it will require too much effort to even compete with it.
      With that in mind, why would they ever invest in 2 games with the same genre, that cater to pretty much the same target audience?
      I think it is safe to assume that Sony planned to Sack Little Big Planet (pun intended) in favor of Astro, since they felt it was a much better mascot for them.

    In terms of Nintendo, I really don't think they need to worry about anything; they're always been creative when it came to Mario mainline titles, and even Mario Wonder was a breath of fresh air in it's 2D scape. Hell, I'd say Nintendo's been the only one out of the big three to be putting out bangers with their first party IPs(Xenoblade, Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, Pikmin, Pokemon, Splatoon etc), as well as their good line up of 3rd party support; having the Switch stand strong for the 7 years it's been out.
    Astro Bot truly does show gamers DO still want this fun little romps of charming games, especially if they're fun and creative. As well as Nintendo's Mario Maker proved there is a market for gamers who DO want to create their own little games, or levels, and Streamers who'd LOVE to play those levels too; free marketing right there. I like the idea of giving Little Big Planet to Team Asobi, in order to bring some new life into it; and maybe be a great tool for creatives, to make 3D game levels, like Mario Maker is great for 2D game levels. In terms of monetization, all the need to do allow players to either unlock cosmetics/costumes to be used in game with in-game currency, or just outright buy with for cheap, or maybe unlock some more creative skins for the levels: Uncharted style or Ratchet and Clank style for example. There's a lot they could do with something like this, and could be easy money too.

    The game mechanics introduced in the first two LBP games were HUGE at the time. I equate it to when BOTW came out. I spent so much time playing LBP back in high school with my buddy. We made so many different levels. I'll never forget the online community for those games when they were in their prime. So many fun and creative levels. We even tried to create water in the first one using different materials at different sizes... Didn't work. But when LBP 2 came out, it's mechanics added so much to the community. my issue with dreams is that it wasn't a game engine. I loved it but as someone who works in game engines to make produces like games. there was very limited reason to learn it outside of my own enjoyment. if dreams had been an engine with a license where I could sell anything I could make it in, I would either use it as a tool to create assets for another engine or as the engine itself. it has so much protentional locked away inside a game that has no reason for real developers to play

    LBP 4 should have every Story level from 1,2 and 3..... along with all the community levels from all three games.
    MM doesn't have to try and "reinvent the wheel" with LBP4. Just stick to what made LBP2 so amazing, and improve on that a little bit..... it doesn't have to be a lot.

    I’ve only held on to my PS3 because of my love for the LBP games. The new AstroBot is great, but I think Sackboy A Big Adventure doesn’t get the praise it deserves. It’s HUGE for me that Sackboy has local co-op, and thinks of ways to make tricky parts more accessible to my young daughters with the helicopter hover mode. It’s allowing my two girls their first gaming memories, and it’s magical to them. Add in the highly customizable characters that other platformers ignore, the amazing art direction, and it’s easy to see why this IP is special. I think the added movesets for Sackboy are nice, and a little less floaty physics are great improvements. I hope they revisit LBP Karting but tighten the controls to have another true MarioKart competition. Actually, just make the kart racer feature a bunch of SONY’s IPs like the way Smash does for Nintendo and that could bring a bigger audience. Anyway, it would be amazing to have both AstroBot and Sackboy IPs going strong in the future.

    I miss these games so much. And I know it never got the steam it needed, but Karting allowing for creation in 3D was incredible and unlike any other creation tool I've used. Not to mention that with the paint roller mechanic you could create a simple fun new track within just a couple of minutes. It always made me sad that it wasn't a popular game even among LBP fans. Just didn't get the merit it deserved, much like the rest of LBP.

    Sackboy: a big adventure came out in 2020 and is a brilliant platformer with couch Co-Op and lots of end game support and mastery challenges. Not sure why everyone is acting like its a dead franchise. 4 years without a game entry is nothing compared to some things we see in the industry today.

    • @pout6038
      @pout6038 หลายเดือนก่อน

      10 years without a mainline game entry. SABA is a spin-off. A fun spin-off game, but it doesn't give people what they want out of the LBP series which is community created content. The LBP IP may not be dead, but so far there's no indication the main series of games isn't.
      The servers were also shut down, which is why people consider the series dead. It's not like there's no new games but you can still play the old ones, you can't play the old ones to their full extent on official servers either.

    • @larryhouse3776
      @larryhouse3776 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @pout6038 I understand the liking for community created content. But you really think A Big Adventure isn't a mainline game and that it's a side project basically? That couldn't be any further from the truth. It's got more than double the content of Little Big Planet 3. It's very literally the biggest and most flushed out full game in the entire series.

    • @trunguss
      @trunguss 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@larryhouse3776The user generated content of LBP literally makes it LBP.
      LBP is not defined by it's story mode, it's defined by it's slogan "Play, create, share".
      SABA only features the Play part. It is not mainline.

    I’m gonna be real, I like sack boy. But his games have very little beyond a surface level in common with Astro, and I don’t think ripping Astro’s developers away from their new baby to work on Little Big Planet is fair or even really a good idea? Like imagine the little big planet devs got told after their first game “great job! Now go make a new crash game.” Like wanting sack boy back is fine but this line of thinking is WHY we don’t get big new fun projects like Astro all that often anymore.

    The reason why they're not focusing on a new LBP game is because of game journalist bias.
    Game journalists suck at games, and only like it when they're pushed closer to the end of the game by the end of the deadline, thus they only care about cinematic cutscenes and lots and lots of realism. It pains me to say this, but unless they stop hiring these gaming boomers who are bad at playing games to play their games, we're not getting an LBP4 any time soon.
    Simple puzzle? They'll suck. Simple jump? They'll suck. Simple tutorial? They'll *STILL* suck.

I found him accidentally thru ps+ offering a Sackboy skin to use in Fall Guys. For this reason I did actually think that Sackboy IS the Playstation mascot even tho I've played Astro's Playroom.
    (I say his, but you can play as a her, of course.) The Sackboy games are awesome. Sometimes tricky. Always fun.

    Sackboy should be the antagonist of the next Astro Bot game, jealous he's the one both figuratively and literally fading away into irrelevancy. The final boss fight is an Ace Combat style dogfight against Sackboy on a PS3 controller vs Astrobot on a PS5(or whatever number) controller.

    There are environmental items and tools that seem directly lifted from Sackboy. I am not Shitting on Astro Boy.

    If Astrobot has proved one thing its that Sony has THE plethora of family friendly mascots to rival what Nintendo has. Sackboy, Crash Bandicoot, Astrobot, Sly Cooper and potentially Spike from Ape escape could be Sony's Mario, Sonic, Kirby, Link and Donkey Kong
    With the right marketing towards family friendly platformers and party games and enough to differentiate themselves gameplay wise those 5 franchises could dominate.
    Not everything has to be a AAA experience and with online stores its easier than ever to market 20-30$ platformers. Not using them feels like a wasted opportunity and i just hope they strike while the irons hot.
    Sack Boy adventures was kind of ok but it just felt like a cookie cutter platformer, when it needed to take advantage of his crocheted body. Velcro, fire, water, cardboard and lots of yarn to swing on and unravel, even a few bugs like moths would make sackboy stand out in the space.
