I was born in a country where people admire Their great sporting heroes and how they aspire To stand upon mountains and always be winners And never give less than their all I once met an old man who told me great stories Of legends of old who played hard for the glory Of lifting the cup in that moment of triumph These memories kept me enthralled On the fields, the fields of glory On the fields where boys become men On the fields, the fields of glory May the best team win, win in the end Supporting their team with a true sense of place Are the handfuls of people with pride on their faces They come from the town lands, the Parrish, the village Their banners they proudly unfurl An anthem of hope is the song they are singing The whistle, it sounds and the game, it begins And the roar of the crowd echoes up to the heavens It sends out a clarion call On the fields, the fields of glory On the fields where boys become men On the fields, the fields of glory May the best team win, win in the end I'm dreaming of Ireland in fine summer weather A crowd of young lads playing football together All hoping that someday the call they will answer To play for the place they were born On the fields, the fields of glory On the fields where boys become men On the fields, the fields of glory May the best team win, win in the end I'm dreaming of Ireland in fine summer weather A crowd of young lads playing football together The roar of the crowd echoes up to the heavens It sends out a clarion call

Anyone who has played a sport, regardless what it is, understands the underlying message of this song. To train, to endeavor, to vanquish, or not, the feelings are universal.
"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious." Vince Lombardi
I have loved this song for so long and it touched me on such a personal level. In a metal working class I took I actually made a wrist cuff that has a sound wave from this song of them singing "to stand upon mountains, and never give less than their all" (and I know I trimmed the lyrics in between) lightly engraved on it. Inside the cuff is leather with the lyrics printed into the leather. I love this song so much, it's so empowering
This so represents what sports should be. In the US it has been so corrupted and distorted. Our local sports "heroes" aren't even local and ofter they're criminal. People have forgotten that vitue is paramount and athletics are at virtues service. Partiotism and love of one's hometown because of the love of neighbor is virtuous. Beautiful song. Thank you.
I think the main reason I love this song, is they use the word 'clarion' in it. The only song I've ever heard that has used that word. Such a good word.
Everyone on earth should know and love these guys! They’re amazing it’s sad that they’re underrated they should be they are to good of a band. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
good man jim, let no one tell you any different, you can live anywhere, but home is where the heart is. my uncles all went to england in the 70s , but they all come HOME to galway for holidays. never lost the galway accent either. 3 have moved home since. i think one of the reasons the irish are admired worldwide is they (generally) never forget where the come from and who the are. wherever they are .never have and never will. slan abhaile, proud irish man.
Love this Song so much!! i'll never forget the first time I heard it the night before the 2008 All-Ireland Football Final...i literally got gooosebumps as I heard the passion & pride associated with the GAA highlighted within the song!! amazing stuff!! xXxx
The success of these guys will lead to a revival in irish traditional/folk music. Irish music Clancy's/Makem ..they are not WHY?? they have their own style and great harmonies I WISH EVERY SUCCESS TO The High Kings You are Majestic in stage presentation ABD IN SONG/MUSIC
Its not only football they are singing about to me. They sing also about the people who fought in our war for what they believed in. Fields of Glory just reminds me of patriots. Either way, I love this song now.
Wow! Who are these guys? I've never seen them before. But wow, those voices are from heaven. Those voices are so pure. How can 4men do that so perfectly? What incredible talent. I'll be looking for more from these guys, that's for sure. Irish? I'm not surprised that they are from Ireland.

Got the opportunity to see The High Kings, at the 2010 Irish Fair, in St. Paul, MN, they brought everybody to their feet. This song was among the best !! The big man who plays the kettle drums, was incredible! Totally awesome video, thank you for making these! xo ~..~ Regards, Gypsy
Maybe it's because I'm native and the drums sing to my heart, but, even though I know they're singing about football, I always envision the state basketball finals and the teams that fight the hardest; the Navajos and the Apaches.
I am Serbian. That is not the matter here. I'm not much of a football fan, sure I watch it as any other guy (I mean soccer, the regular kind), but this is one of the most inspirational song I have ever heard. I cherish and adore Irish folk music, as well as Serbian and Croatian alike, as someone here mentioned (they are a bit alike, if not much) but this is one of my favourite songs, not because it's Irish and not English, not because it's bigoted but because it lifts spirits. Erin go bragh!
10 people don't have any spirit what-so-ever and don't deserve to watch sports. To all who like this kind of music, i am deeply ashamed of this and hope that they never listen to any other irish or celtic song. I for one was born in a country where people admire great sporting heros and how they aspire to stand upon mountains and always be winners and never give less then their all. Truest thing truest thing i have ever heard in my life and it makes me proud to live. Go high kings!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a different sport from either gridiron football or soccer. And it is one of the few governed and organized sports left on the planet where everyone is an ametuer. From the players to the coaches; no one gets paid. They do what they do for the love of the game...

Still a great song, still here in 2024.
I was born in a country where people admire
Their great sporting heroes and how they aspire
To stand upon mountains and always be winners
And never give less than their all
I once met an old man who told me great stories
Of legends of old who played hard for the glory
Of lifting the cup in that moment of triumph
These memories kept me enthralled
On the fields, the fields of glory
On the fields where boys become men
On the fields, the fields of glory
May the best team win, win in the end
Supporting their team with a true sense of place
Are the handfuls of people with pride on their faces
They come from the town lands, the Parrish, the village
Their banners they proudly unfurl
An anthem of hope is the song they are singing
The whistle, it sounds and the game, it begins
And the roar of the crowd echoes up to the heavens
It sends out a clarion call
On the fields, the fields of glory
On the fields where boys become men
On the fields, the fields of glory
May the best team win, win in the end
I'm dreaming of Ireland in fine summer weather
A crowd of young lads playing football together
All hoping that someday the call they will answer
To play for the place they were born
On the fields, the fields of glory
On the fields where boys become men
On the fields, the fields of glory
May the best team win, win in the end
I'm dreaming of Ireland in fine summer weather
A crowd of young lads playing football together
The roar of the crowd echoes up to the heavens
It sends out a clarion call
Kitty Kat you, I like you
Kinship found in music
Why am I in 2023, as a 35yr old man, playing GAA for the the past 30yrs, only hearing this for the first time now?

The Irish football team should always listen to this before playing an important match.
But it is not about football/soccer. It’s about Gaelic Football the best sport in the world!
feckin great song :)
beautiful
Thanks ❤️ Спасибо ❤️
Makes me think of a battlefield after the battle is over...
The amazing thing has to be the fact that they aren't singing about Football...they're singing about Gaelic Football.
Andrew Ames what's the difference?
It's a different sport from either gridiron football or soccer. And it is one of the few governed and organized sports left on the planet where everyone is an ametuer. From the players to the coaches; no one gets paid. They do what they do for the love of the game...
Could be interpreted either way
Football isnt full of pansies and blacks pretending to get hurt to game flags, thats the difference.
Aloha I’m shanebearddj I’m biggest fan ever best music ever
This needs to be the world cup theme
The song is about Gaelis Football, but I believe anyone can feel this in their heart about their favorite sport.
Miss u Martin come back to Boone so we can jam again!
