When I discovered this song on St Patricks Day, the 1/3 of me that's Irish was crying whiskey tears of pure joy. If this pandemic wasn't going on, I'd have had a blast at an Irish pub and just joyously celebrate my Irish heritage.
I'm mostly Italian and German, with a little Irish on my father's side of the family, and I always felt more in tune with my Irish heritage given I've always had lobe for celtic singing, instrumentals, and even tap dancing. Always enjoyed the culture, plus I was in ireland roughly 15 years ago on vacation. I'm proud, incredibly proud of my Irish heritage, no matter how small of a percentage I may have. This song was written in the 18th century, the main road to Dublin from the west started in Tuam. Tuam was a much bigger town than Galway at that time and a commercial hub, the path taken is that of the dail riada , which is a line of eskers the result of glacial erosion hence the rocks, this line stretches west to east in Ireland and they can be seen today if you follow the old road. This song was also an influence on Tuam band the saw doctors release N17 which describes leaving Tuam / Ireland to emigrate to America, much like this song did at its time

Thank you for sharing the lyrics. I kind of understood the gist of the son. I think its about a guy who bid farewell to his parents then went to reap the corn and drink his sorrow away and then went to hunt rabbits along the way to Dublin but he was not getting paid for his labour so desided to get on a ship. But there was no space on the ship so he got on in where the pigs are kept on the ship. When the ship arrived a group of boys from Liverpool called him an idiot so he got angry and fought them then another group of boys from Ireland saw the commotion and joined in the fight so he and the Irish boys went back to Dublin. I'm mostly Italian and German, with a little Irish on my father's side of the family, and I always felt more in tune with my Irish heritage given I've always had lobe for celtic singing, instrumentals, and even tap dancing. Always enjoyed the culture, plus I was in ireland roughly 15 years ago on vacation. I'm proud, incredibly proud of my Irish heritage, no matter how small of a percentage I may have. I just came back from a lovely Holliday in Ireland. Now listening to this I wish I was back in Ireland. I will definitely go again❤
This song was written in the 18th century, the main road to Dublin from the west started in Tuam. Tuam was a much bigger town than Galway at that time and a commercial hub, the path taken is that of the dail riada , which is a line of eskers the result of glacial erosion hence the rocks, this line stretches west to east in Ireland and they can be seen today if you follow the old road. This song was also an influence on Tuam band the saw doctors release N17 which describes leaving Tuam / Ireland to emigrate to America, much like this song did at its time
I remember the Esker Riada. It was a wavy line of gravel stretching right across the country. A glacial remnant now sadly completely removed for road building

Thank you for sharing the lyrics. I kind of understood the gist of the son. I think its about a guy who bid farewell to his parents then went to reap the corn and drink his sorrow away and then went to hunt rabbits along the way to Dublin but he was not getting paid for his labour so desided to get on a ship. But there was no space on the ship so he got on in where the pigs are kept on the ship. When the ship arrived a group of boys from Liverpool called him an idiot so he got angry and fought them then another group of boys from Ireland saw the commotion and joined in the fight so he and the Irish boys went back to Dublin.
