esta es mí canción favorita, las versión de Metallica la tenía de tono de llamada, de despertador y la sigo escuchando y me encanta, esta versión es muy buena tambien.
Had to check out Celtic Thunder after seeing some of the Comments posted - out of a sense of scientific curiosity. I'd go see them but I would do so with an image in my mind of the expression on Phil Lynott's face up in music heaven :-) Liking High Kings - hell it's all good music!!!
kakvi su bili prije 10 a i vise godina..tako isto imaju energiju i sada..Hrvatski duh osjeca istu glazbu i uvijek ju isto voli..kao da su dvije duse..jedno tijelo😙
These guys are good. Some of their versions are the best I've heard, but I have to say for "Whiskey in The Jar" check out the Kilkennys. You may or may not agree but give a listen to this and some of their other songs and see if you don't also become a fan.
@jdg120789 I found this on wikipedia. "The song's exact origins are unknown. A number of its lines and the general plot resemble those of a contemporary broadside ballad "Patrick Fleming" (also called "Patrick Flemmen he was a Valiant Soldier") about an Irish highwayman executed in 1650....In the book The Folk Songs of North America, folk music historian Alan Lomax suggests that the song originated in the 17th century..."
@MetallicAyManowaR The song is a centuries old traditional song. See the wikipedia article. After the Dubliners brought it to international attention, Thin Lizzy made a version of it, which Metallica covered.
I am doing a little research on different version of the lyrics of Whisky in the Jar and this is close to being my favourite. I would change a few words and slip in an extra verse. I think the longer the story it tells, the better a song it is. I did like the little musical nod to Thin Lizzie in this.
There's no "nod" to Thin Lizzie. The song in its entirety is an Irish folk song first commercially released by The Dubliners in 1968. The actual story of the song dates back to the 1600s.
Cliff Ryan Five for me. The Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, The High Kings, Metallica, and Darby O'Gill. Favorites would definitely be The Dubliners and Darby's versions. Metallica comes in third. A moderately distanced forth would be thin lizzy. They lose points for electric guitar noodling before the intro and at several points during the song. I think the high kinds have done other songs better. They did this okay, but it isn't my favorite iteration of this song by a long shot. Kinda sad because I like the high kings.
jason sexton I love the high kings version, as well as Ryan's Fancy. I was thinking more of different versions of the song. As an example, some versions mention Molly, and others Jennie. Another is how the song starts..some say "..the far farmed Kerry Mountains..." other versions say ..the Cork and Kerry Mountains..."
@MetallicAyManowaR No it's an irish traditional song, and the origin is unknown. :) High Kings covered it from the Thin Lizzy version. Listen it that is very good too :)
They're far from it There are other artists out there who are more like the Dubliners George Murphy for example He's even performed on stage with them a few times and recorded an album with them So if u think these guys are like the Dubliners u haven't heard anything
I do love this song but where had the actual music video of this gone? It was deleted and I want it back because it was better quality, this just sounds all muffled and quiet.
Coming from a percussionist/drummer standpoint, the time signature is the same for both songs. Thin Lizzy/Metallica do a slower rendition that has a different set of lyrics and a story that has a different out come. The only thing here that is similar to Thin Lizzy's is the little lead melody before the song. The rest of it is closer to someone like the Dubliners, just a little slower.
Any song by the high kings are good and cheerful, the celtic thunder band might be just as good but i wont give an oppinion because i havn't heard them, i hate it when people insult a band or person they have never seen or heard before.
No darrin and brian are not related tho i thought so 2 which is y i checked their bios out! I like brian! So cute! Love all the instruments they play banjo and drum are my favs!
@tallwoman76 I think the guys in Celtic Thunder have awesome voices and while I wish they sang more actual Irish stuff, I think they sing very well. The High Kings are marvelous and I love listening to them sing, but I wish you wouldn't put down one group in the praise of another.
They use the correct version of the song. I must give them proper due for that. The way the perform it is a different matter entirely. They have excellent showmanship. I find their style detracts from the song though. Far too much pop influence. The Dubliners do a live version of this song that is exemplary.
Celtic Thunder didn't want to be The High Kings and the High Kings didn't want to be CT. They sing different stuff have different styles and achieve different things with it. I think both shouldn't be compared, and both should be only enjoyed. I love both.
"This isn't to my taste These people suck, they do it wrong. Only X can do it right" Come on people. It's cool not to like it, but others do, and that's what matters. Besides, people here have an interesting definition of "pop music"
@MissSunFlower94 i've only listened to the high kings so i cant criticize CT but neither should be compared to the other or else arguements will break out with some saying their band is better. Why cant we all get along with each other?
Does anyone see my comment?
I'm from Japan.
I love this song, because I'm one of a person who loves whisky.
Japanese whisky is sooo good
@@25zer _whisky_
ユキ Japanese whisky ....not bad but not as good as speyside malt , cheers from bonnie Scotland .
Welcome!
Great song love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Irish music is in your blood, the Dubliners, Wolfe Tones , Davey Arthur and Tommy Clancy etc, you either get it or you don't 😀
but a 6 string banjo?
Michael Hayes so very true!!
I agree with that point very much so
Thank you Dave Kavanagh brilliant yet again. You will always be missed . 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
One of the great songs in this world as far as I concerned!!! Great video!
Regardless of who sings it, this music is fucking brilliant. I'd forever rather be in Ireland.
Even then, one of the people that sings it is related to the Clancy Brothers.
Love you, guys! ❤❤❤❤
Greetings from Moscow.
Svetlana🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Great song. I find irish and Newfoundland music so similar. Luv it!!!!

Wow! It's the Coolest Irish folksong! I love this cool music!
I would be tempted to believe that, these lads are good and they can certainly get the crowd going.
esta es mí canción favorita, las versión de Metallica la tenía de tono de llamada, de despertador y la sigo escuchando y me encanta, esta versión es muy buena tambien.
Watch their faces - the joy they are having stands out all over! Darren in particular looks like he's about to burst into laughter from 0:36 - 0:38.
Had to check out Celtic Thunder after seeing some of the Comments posted - out of a sense of scientific curiosity. I'd go see them but I would do so with an image in my mind of the expression on Phil Lynott's face up in music heaven :-) Liking High Kings - hell it's all good music!!!

I want to come in your country and listen to this song!
Great stuff. Like it!!
It still amazes me that Darren can sing and play the Accordion.
Lyrics should be at the TOP of the comments halfway done with the song and still scrolling 😂
The High Kings ar best my favorite ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the High Kings! Cant wait for their new cd to make it to the united states!
Oh I get it buddy. This is terrific stuff. What a great version.
Yes'am these guys are awesome!
Great energy!
send these lads to eurovision,im sure they could write a great tune for it.
that was brillant, i luv the high kings
This song reminds me a lot of the song brennan on the moor, if you guys havent heard of it look it up... might be talking about the same guy...
I still love the title of that song
great group enjoy there music .
Their is used to describe the property of a group of people. There is used to describe a location.
Broken soffa And the location is ireland :P
These guys are good. Some of their versions are the best I've heard, but I have to say for "Whiskey in The Jar" check out the Kilkennys. You may or may not agree but give a listen to this and some of their other songs and see if you don't also become a fan.
great group-they do this song well slan, Jim
one word =AWESOME
wow!
well done, lads!
High Kings are the next generation of the Clancy Brothers and the legecy is in good hands.
@MetallicAyManowaR Specifically, they covered Thin Lizzy (from Dublin), but the song is an Irish traditional folk song
@madfortrad5958 This song is an Irish pubsong from the 1870`s. It was taken ons-tage in the mid 1900`s but it was about long before.
@MissSunFlower94 I agree. This is a great version also. Every group should be enjoyed for their uniqueness.
My dream is to one day be as enthousiastic about something as that one guy is about hitting that drum
His names Brian
Best Version of this song ever
@MissSunFlower94
That was the most reasonable thing you could say. Thumbs up!
And yes, me too love them both :)
Bleedin Legends! MUP DA IRISH!!!
Hello, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin! Glad to see you guys got a band together! xD
@jdg120789
I found this on wikipedia.

Excellent!
no way dude. Im not denying that that these guys are great cos they are but The Dubliners are a one and only.
@MetallicAyManowaR The song is a centuries old traditional song. See the wikipedia article. After the Dubliners brought it to international attention, Thin Lizzy made a version of it, which Metallica covered.
The High Kings are the best Band on world. I love there music, they have great voices
Love this

+jason sexton also listen to jerry garcia and david grisman version. it was great.
Eles se apresentaram no programa da Eliana o Raul Gil ?
@madfortrad5958 I think it's a lot older than that. For these kind of songs it's impossible to put a date on them...
Wonderful!
@MetallicAyManowaR
No it's an irish traditional song, and the origin is unknown. :) High Kings covered it from the Thin Lizzy version. Listen it that is very good too :)
This was a brutal version
the high kings are the new dubliners !!
They're far from it
There are other artists out there who are more like the Dubliners
George Murphy for example
He's even performed on stage with them a few times and recorded an album with them
So if u think these guys are like the Dubliners u haven't heard anything
My uncle is unreal singing that
I do love this song but where had the actual music video of this gone? It was deleted and I want it back because it was better quality, this just sounds all muffled and quiet.
It's ok I found it.

Have you heard the Darby O'Gill version from their live album?
Happy St. Patrick's Day boi
@MetallicAyManowaR Not an original song of the High Kings, quite an old Irish Song, dates back many years, there are many many covers :)
I love the Indian, Irish and Hungarian legends - Dylan Zoli Deven - go on ya good thing:)
Not a drop of Gaelic blood do I have in me, but I love the music!
Darren looks so young and handsome here. He's still handsome, just a little older.
Yeah ❤
Is it just me who listened to this and just couldn't stop laughing?
Yep, this song's been around awhile.
The first version of this I ever heard was Roger Whittaker's. :)
@madfortrad5958
This is old drinking song made in XVII century actually
Any song by the high kings are good and cheerful, the celtic thunder band might be just as good but i wont give an oppinion because i havn't heard them, i hate it when people insult a band or person they have never seen or heard before.
I am American but I like these songs. I am glad I am not Irish though.
tune !
No darrin and brian are not related tho i thought so 2 which is y i checked their bios out! I like brian! So cute! Love all the instruments they play banjo and drum are my favs!

❤❤❤
Why would finding his brother in the army help him after an armed robbery? I have always wondered that...
Ken Bishop because his brother knows how to fight and could bust him out of jail
Jenny waterlogged his gun in an earlier verse. :) At least that's my understanding. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
Is that a 6-string banjo?
The mics cut out in the middle of the last verse. Bet you some one got fired over that.
Did he say hurling
search the "The young dubliners" too
I do not get the phrase "I couldn't shoot the Water" what does he mean by it?
They left out the verse which Jenny pulled my charges and filled them up with water
Barbara Bobbitt no they didn’t lol
It means his powder got wet.
They use the correct version of the song. I must give them proper due for that. The way the perform it is a different matter entirely. They have excellent showmanship. I find their style detracts from the song though. Far too much pop influence. The Dubliners do a live version of this song that is exemplary.
Well, when it comes to the pop influence, you have to think of their competitors.
What is the wrong version of the song?
@@legosoilder3621 don't forget the difference between pop and Celtics
Celtic Thunder didn't want to be The High Kings and the High Kings didn't want to be CT. They sing different stuff have different styles and achieve different things with it. I think both shouldn't be compared, and both should be only enjoyed.
I love both.
THE LADS WAS A BIT NERVY BUT THEY SETTLED DOWN .GOD BLESS
1:23 he's gettin' into that accordion
@madfortrad5958 Yeah... I love this version, but nothing beats the Thin Lizzy version
@Freyja1133 they've been together over 30 years what are you talking about
@thelegendohara No one can replace the dubliners FACT :)
Did anybody else see that thug play his accordion like a boss at 1:23?!
@MetallicAyManowaR It's from the 1700s, bro
I stand Corrected
"This isn't to my taste
These people suck, they do it wrong. Only X can do it right"
Come on people. It's cool not to like it, but others do, and that's what matters.
Besides, people here have an interesting definition of "pop music"
Can't beat the Brothers Four version
METALLICA!
@MissSunFlower94 i've only listened to the high kings so i cant criticize CT but neither should be compared to the other or else arguements will break out with some saying their band is better. Why cant we all get along with each other?
@madfortrad5958 And Thin Lizzy made the rock cover famous before metallica.
gary moore and friends at self-aid is No.1 (modelled after the great thin lizzy version)
@MetallicAyManowaR no its an irish classic
6 sting banjos always make me sad...
