Can you break down the length of FRAC for each of the subclasses (i.e. AWS, AWR, AWO, etc.)? All info says 6-32 weeks depending on what aircraft you’re on. I’ve talked to three recruiters so far and none of them know anything. I want to go for AWS via Reserves.

don't quote me on this but i'm pretty sure you get your wings when you get to your first command.

FRAC was the worst part of the pipeline for me. It's the first exposure to the dynamics of an aircrew shop, politics, and how a command operates beaurocratically. My advice for FRAC: know your stuff, stay out of the student lounge, keep you head down, don't put yourself in a situation where you are responsible for someone else, don't throw anyone under the bus (especially an instructor), don't let other students walk all over you, it's yes chief/no chief, and focus on yourself.

How long were you in FRAC?

@@ZeroFoxtrotG 11 months. I went through HSM-41 in San Diego. Some of that time was spent doing other training like SERE and other training I don't remember the name of.

@@garneroutlaw1 thanks for the response! Btw when you are in FRAC can your spouse and kids live with you off base or maybe even on base? Also if you could go back and choose a different rate would you? Last question is would you have ever chosen the Diver rate? and do you think the Diver rate training/job is harder then rescue swimmer training?

@@ZeroFoxtrotG Yes you can live off base with your spouse. I would have chosen diver in hindsight. I think diver is probably easier. What I witnessed in the AWR program was probably the highest attrition pipeline in the Navy - higher than SEAL. I think about 75% washed out some point due to various reasons and the main one is the length of being in student status. I was in a student status for nearly 2.5 years. I saw people wash out in every part - RSS, FRAC, and once they checked into their first squadrons. I saw people unvolunteer to fly and others just basically reassigned due to poor performance and poor attitude. Go Diver if you can.

I should also add that it looks like things have changed permanently in the rate, so there is pressure for instructors to pump candidates out to meet quotas. So my guess is that attrition is probably less intense now. I also went through at a bad time when there were training backlogs.
