    I have easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials "do it yourself" (DIY) videos to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers and zero turn mowers.
    I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
    Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed whacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, zero turn mower, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
    My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
    I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
    I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on TH-cam and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!
    I want "DON THE SMALL ENGINE DOCTOR" on TH-cam to save you time, frustration and most importantly, MONEY with my HOW-TO videos!

      Hi Donyboy, I have been following your channel for many years. Your videos and instructions are quite simply the best. On the Tecumseh starter you must have saved me about two hours work when I understood how the recoil starter was designed and built. Your channel is worth its weight in gold. Thank you and may your business prosper even more!

    Excellent step-by-step repair video on the Don. Thanks for making. Awesome video footage and close-ups. Your videos are always top notch (I tend to take that for granted with your channel). I will definitely file this video away, in case I ever need to perform myself. I love working on Tecumseh. Thanks again, and have a great upcoming weekend.

    This is the best tutorial I have been able to find on repairing a brokenTecumseh recoil spring. Thanks so much for posting it. Yesterday I went to replace the rope on my tiller and the spring would not tighten. Really did not want to have to replace the entire assembly. The engine is a H-50 from around 1992.

  • @elcheapo5302
    @elcheapo5302 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can skip the plastic melting process by just winding the spring fully tight then backing off until the rope hole in the sheave matches up with the rope hole in the housing. I like to get it there by backing off at least 1 full turn. That's was how I was taught at Tecumseh school back in the 90s.

    As options to a heated up screw driver to make the notch in the plastic you can use a round file and file away. Or a Dremmel tool with an appropriate cutting tool. Good video. Very informative.

    Wow, fixed my limp cord! Melted a notch and just put another turn on it. Pulled it three times and the cord snapped where it had been dangling for the past 5 years, lol, of course. Oh well at least I had extra cord around to just replace it.

    Thanks! You always have good videos, very informative. I had an old Tecumseh like that. The blower housing finally rusted all to pieces and I gave up on it. The engine was still good though, but some little problems like the recoil was bad and the carburetor would leak sometimes. Good machine for many years though.

    The first thing I want to say is there's nothing wrong with doing it the way he's offering here. In fact there's probably a lot more satisfaction involved. However years ago they wouldn't allow us to change the parts on a recoil that was externally mounted like this. It was just company policy and since the parts are almost expensive as a new one depending on your labor calculation plus fewer call backs the mold is set. If you have a one hour min labor rate price should be the same either way. We kept a lot of these on the truck so it was a quick fix.

    Wastage in action. Rather that replace a spring you have to buy complete assy. trimmers clutch housing does a bearing again buy a new assy. There will be no mechanics in the future just part swappers being told what to change and how to change it by software. Wish sometimes that an Asteroid will smack into this planet and reset us for a bit.
