This video is AMAZING and resonated with me very deeply. I’ve been on TH-cam and with our community since I was a VERY small child. I mean our community has literally grown up with me and know me better than anyone. Yet despite this the internet can lie and deceit as you mention. And on top of that the accountability can be very scary. The crowd will always follow the “toxic gossip train”. It is very easy for people to be cancelled as the internet stands today, even slight accidental slip ups can be seen as cancel material. And those are unavoidable as a teenager and while we’re growing up - even ive made some when i was a kid who hasnt?? Maybe if people continue speaking up like you this can change. I love everyone so much and this just alike to you can be scary sometimes. Very adult to speak about this Ashvee I respect you a lot please reach out if you ever need someone to talk to. I know how hard dealing with this can be while being younger. I’ve been there 💛
Everything in this video is very true and well-worded. Because of the internet, a lot of people who don't deserve it are shunned from communities they love because of a stupid mistake. Teenagers make PLENTYY of mistakes and don't deserve to be canceled over it. Recently, a few people brought back up something I said few months ago, and I was scared to DEATH of being canceled. I've changed a lot since then, and thankfully I was able to explain that before it spread everywhere.
My goodness I hope this goes viral. Honestly I feel like I would take this a step further and not merely say “teens” but people as a whole. No matter how you are, we’re all constantly growing and trying to be better - or at least we should be. EVERYONE makes mistakes. We should be there to support each other when we slip up.
“There’s no such thing as ‘bad guys’ or ‘good guys.’ We’re all just… guys.. who do good stuff sometimes and bad stuff sometimes. And all we can do is try to do less bad stuff and more good stuff, but you’re never going to be good. Because you’re not bad.” - Diane Nguyen from Bojack Horseman. But in all honesty this was a really good video to make. The Internet oversaturates everything it sees. I do believe that people are defined by their actions mostly, but it’s best to focus on their present actions rather than past. The past can hurt, but what you do in the present to better yourself everyday is what really matters. People have told me many bad things they did in the past, I even did bad things in the past- but as long as it wasn’t murder or something incredibly illegal- we can still get up from it, learn from it, and move on from it. Let people keep making mistakes, and allow yourself to be wrong. Or else we’re never going to continue growing.
Ashvee, your soo real for this I’m a teen as well (I’m 15) and I always get scared that I’ll get canceled for the stupid crap I did when I was a bit younger despite learning from those dumb mistakes Cancel culture can be stupid when it comes to kids, especially teens
This is the most mature video I've ever watched, and I'm so glad you talked about this. And I actually can relate to this a lot, since at the start of 2021, I made a post on Twitter discussing that I was "uncomfortable about same gender relationships" all because I didn't understand the concept of LGBT stuff all because I was like, 14. And almost the entire MSM community took that as me being Homophobic, which I didn't even understand the meaning behind, and I tried to be vocal about me just not understanding it, but nobody would listen. Only a few people I knew had my back and slowly but surely, I ended up being forgiven by everyone else who called me that, and I even came out as Pansexual this year too. So overall, this video is one that should be spread across TH-cam. More than Down in the Workshop, more than Make a Comeback, more than literally everything else you've made because it's not entertaining; it's informative. (Ashvee, if you could pin this so people can see this, that would be amazing since people need to hear what I have to say as well)
Honestly, I wish everyone would hear this, Im glad this is finally being talked about by you! We all make mistakes, and we learn from them, which helps us change and improve. Whether were teens or adults, we ALWAYS make mistakes and learn from them!
Thank you for talking about this Ashvee, the internet is a beautiful thing but things like cancel culture can make it a terrifying place. Especially for vulnerable groups like young people, neurodivergent people e.t.c. It can be so stressful to try and make sure your words can't be taken out of context in fear of being seen as a bad person and I'm sure many people, including myself deal with this anxiety of suddenly being cancelled and hated so suddenly. So yeah, not everything has to become a large public 'drama', talking things out in private is usually better for everyone involved. This isn't something that's spoken about often I don't think, so thank you for using the platform you have to spread this message.
This video needs more attention. I hate it when people try to treat these small mistakes as these things that aren’t redeemable. Teenagers especially are learning and growing, so we should allow them to.
I have one time I experienced where this REALLY came into play. It started in DDOMSM's server, and there was someone who was a very good friend of DDOMSM himself, which is why the situation spiraled much more out of control than it should have. (It was a very hard choice to ban him in the end) Basically, the said person made up false accusations about me and consistently attacked me and hated on me for months, and while some statements he made were true, most were not and the ones that were true were a big stretch. For about a month, this persisted, until the staff in the server did something about it and banned him for the time being. I felt a BIG need to hate on him and cancel him from that moment on, and I realize that was a mistake. This was just the beginning though. Later on, he started attacking another person, but I'm not going to elaborate on this situation since the victim is VERY insecure about what happened. A while later, DDOMSM DMed me asking if we should unban him. We decided to do so, and almost immediately his old actions returned. He attacked me and the other person both, and ended up LEAKING MY ACTUAL CITY (for context, I misclicked on an ip grabber link he had that wasn't meant for me, and he said it was cool and it would be a secret between us two. 💀). After this he was banned again and hasn't returned since. The story doesn't end here though, a while later he and a few other people convinced me to talk things out with him. He apparently had been diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder, which effectively means he's a sociopath (I don't mean that in a bad way). He told me that he had suffered a ton of bullying, and that ASPD effectively forced him to react the way he had done to me over the past few months. After around an hour of talking things out, we were finally cool and we are now friends again! What's the takeaway from this? A person can seem like the most rotten, terrible, awful person on the planet at one point, but even the people with the worst actions can become good people. Don't try to ruin that person, for it is never too late for them to have a change of heart. The situation I went through is a prime example of that. (Since you're in DDOMSM's server you might know who I'm talking about, but to prevent any drama or uncomfort I'm leaving all the names anonymous)
Props to you for forgiving that guy, I don't think I would've in that moment. Everyone has their flaws, so we shouldn't judge each other unless it's for growth, imo.
@@antonyisbwos I honestly wasn't intending to do so but I suspected something was up, because a month prior to the drama he acted nothing like he did during the drama. Turns out I was right
I agree, Ashvee. I've made mistakes, I've done some stupid things when I was younger, and I think about it daily, and how I've changed. I'd love to go back to making content on TH-cam, and one day put out the indie game I'm working on, but I feel like someone is just going to end up trying to cancel me for stupid stuff that I did when I was younger. Thank you for making this video, Ashvee.
It’s not a topic anyone ever fully wants to talk about but I’m glad you addressed it. Everyone says or does some dumb things in their life, whether it be accidental or intentional, like for a joke. But this by no means should be held against someone when they grow and change as a person. These mistakes are needed to shape us and help us grow, and no one should be held back by others for the mistakes they made. “Let he who has not sinned throw the first stone” it’s no one’s place to judge when they as well have made mistakes.
I'm 15 and I understand this so much and I can honestly tell you that I've been through things but i'v changed and grown out of it thank you for this video, it really makes me feel reassured.
Ashvee, you worded that perfectly, teenagers have been but shouldn’t have been canceled for mistakes that they made, if they aren’t allowed to fix mistakes they cant learn from that, they shouldn’t be pressured by so many people to speak in ways and one small slipup and they are punished. Its really just unfair to all of these people who dont know how to act on the internet.
As a teenager myself, i agree with this statement completely. You are never too old to make mistakes, and even i have been scared to make mistakes because of cancell culture. As someone who has made mistakes that people use against me, I agree wholeheartedly, I believe I have changed for the better, even though it's held over my head a lot...
i always thought of it like " if you dont want someone in your community because of their actions, thats fine, but understand that people, especially younger people, can grow and change from how they were before " like past actions hold so much less weight as what theyre doing currently ( unless they defend their bad past actions, which is a whole different story )

Sometimes folks on the internet is really stupid, why does everyone have to be so judgmental on every single thing we do? It's very pressuring and ruins confidence on so many people.
Preferably I'd actually like to talk to you in DMs about this as there are some things that I'm not making public. On the whole idea; It's a case by case basis. Take someone like MantisGirl. Threats and heated arguments over practically nothing. People like Mantis DO need to be cancelled as they've been told countless times that they're hurting people and WHY their hurting people. I'm, like, 90% sure Mantis will see this video if you don't have her blocked or something and about 50% sure she'll see this comment. SHE hasn't changed. She's still trying to ruin people's lives. Granted, I'm not entirely sure what friend you're talking about but I have a guess and would prefer to talk about that situation privately. Cancel Culture can be used for good and, sometimes, that good IS using it on teenagers. Some teenagers just need a wake-up call to realize what their doing is horrible. Just because they're young doesn't excuse awful and horrible comments and actions. If someone is harassing you but their, say, 16. That's still harassment, their still hurting you. Just because their 16 doesn't mean you can't call them out. Yes, obviously, talking to them and explaining why what they're saying is hurtful is always the first step in this kind of situation, but if they won't listen then there's no reason to continue explaining why they're hurting you. If you have the time, please do DM me. I'm maramori on Discord and I'd love have a proper conversation about this. Genuinely. I don't think you're wrong, nor do I think you're 100% right, but I want to hear your opinions on some stuff.
Well yes there are definitely some scenarios such as the mantis scenario where cancel culture is necessary, but that’s only after months of attempts and no avail. With the second situation, there are definitely steps that should be taken between “talking about it with them didnt work” and “attempting to permenantly ruin their reputation for the rest of their lives”.
@@Ashvee72-from-Thewildguess I'm unsure of what other steps there SHOULD be. Aside from talking to them, there isn't much you're able to do online aside from trying to distance them from the community they're affecting BY cancelling them. Maybe trying to contact their parents? But that's a VERY slippery road to go down and would likely lead to them being taken away from people who might actually help them such as friends and such. Wording it as "attempting to permanently ruin their reputation for the rest of their lives" is harsh and I see exactly WHY you would word it like that but there are multiple ways to cancel and call out someone. For example, the harassing; A call out document could be made in an effort to present it to them and show them that their actions DO have consequences and that the people they hurt do have feelings. It doesn't have to be a complete take down of their whole life, just simply a document with a few testimonies and screenshots of their actions sent to them either privately or within a controlled space. That way, they're somewhere where they CAN understand that they're hurting people and apologize for it within a space that allows them to be a little vulnerable. I do see the kind of cancelling you're talking about though and I apologize if anything I said was confusing. You're referring to the more common version of cancel culture seen online. The one used against people like CreepShowArt, EDP and other such vile people. I agree that that version of cancelling show NEVER be the first thing someone tries, even when talking about adults. It's unfair to not try to get them to see eye to eye about it all first and attempt to show them what they did wrong. However, there are some instances when you CAN'T go about it in a controlled way. Take the whole Dream situation. Idk if you're caught up to speed on it but basically Dream was called out for being weird, creepy and disgusting at a party and in the dms of a minor. However, it turns out that this minor was actually the one being weird and creepy. That's a situation where, yes, this girl was a minor, but she's purposefully trying to ruin someone's life for something they didn't do. Of course, it's all a case by case thing. Depending on what's happening, we make our best judgement of what should be done about a situation. Sometimes, even the people who are being hurt by someone's actions make a mistake in the steps taken to approach them about the whole thing. That being said, it's also possible that they took the right steps in assuring that they communicated the issues and that person, who is a minor, is still not listening and continues being rude and awful. When all else fails, the only options you're left with online are to ignore them and let them possibly harass someone else or cancel them. (By the way, this is in no means me trying to be rude to you, sorry if it came off that way. /gen)
People when they realize kids (0 to 17) around that age are still developing and are not at their “best” in terms of social stuff and all that. And that when they say something at 12, does not mean they still think that at 17

And that when they say something at 12, does not mean they still think that at 17
This is very true
