Hi Peter, my friend introduced me to you and your channel during the Garmin ride out last week. Great that you are raising such great funds for two great charities. I’ve raised over £10k riding the first stage of the Tour de France with Prostate cancer UK over the last few years and the ride is back again next year after a few years break, if you are interested in a different challenge. You also stopped off at my local chippy for your chippy tea, such a small world hope you liked my local hills. Great video by the way.
Hey Karen, it was lovely to meet you and Linda last Sunday. What a great ride that was. Can't wait to do it again next year! Funnily enough, we've been speaking about trying to get out for one of those TdF stage events, so I'll definitely look in to us doing it with PCUK. Thanks for the recommendation. As for the chippy... it really is a small world! It was very much needed at that point and really hit the spot! Thanks so much for subscribing and watching though. Hope to see you at another event soon. 👌
Another great video :) and inspirational as ever. under 2 months till I do London Amsterdam solo! Dreading the first section getting out of London 🫣 and the climbs 😂 looking forwards to the next video 🤙🥳
Thanks so much, Matt. Really glad you enjoyed it. We’re looking to do London to Amsterdam for our big trip next year. The elevation getting out of London down to Dover looks punchy but Calais to Amsterdam looks dream flat! Definitely what you’d call a sprint stage in the Tour de France! 😂 Good luck with it though. I’m very jealous. 💪🏻
@@petertreadwaythanks Peter, sorry for the late reply! Stocked up on Temu bib shorts (not that bad), some adidas velosamba clip shoes and DMR versa pedals. First time trying clips today 100km and only one fall lol 😂 dropped phone and forgot to unclip. Luckily a grass verge and not a canal or road! Upgraded to Komoot premium and now able to multi day plan the route and share live location!Looking at a hero12 to film the expedition (first of many hopefully). anyway thanks for the inspiration and well done on the Paris trip! :) nice to see plenty companies sending you goodies to review, id say keep it all on the same channel just more vids, love all the workshop stuff - it was the gravel bike conversion that I stumbled on your channel. Keep ya posted on the journey. 🤙😎
@@petertreadway completed the London Amsterdam, fully solo, just a backpack and gravel bike 🤙 529km in 5 days. 2k raised for charity. Onto the next one :) keep the great content coming!
Incredible, Matt. What an adventure! Chapeau! Where did you stay en route? Hotels or did you camp? Either way, what an epic achievement and to have raised that much for charity too. Genuinely so pleased for you mate. Feel free to drop me a DM on IG with all the details. 👌🏻
So glad I found your channel Pete and taking us along with your ride. Only regret is why the hell I waited until 62 to start cycling….so many future adventures with so less time….Jimmy you legend, I bet you never know whether to hug him, leave him or punch him 😂😂😂
Thanks so much, Clayton. Really appreciate having you along for the ride. Also, don't regret not starting to cycle earlier, be thankful you've found it now. 👌As they say 'You don't stop cycling when you get old, you get old when you stop cycling'! As for Jimmy, yes, he's an absolute legend. Every ride needs a Jimmy! 😂
Great video Peter, reminds me of our L2P a few years back, we also stopped for a chippy tea, i think in Edenbridge, before having dinner in The Ark at Newhaven. Didnt have a support vehicle so we rolled our bikes on the ferry. Looking forward to part two and must say a great cause which my family, for personal reasons, also support. Thank you for promoting and supporting these two great charities
Cheers Lewis, glad you enjoyed it. Yeh, the chips definitely helped at the that stage in the afternoon. Sorry to hear your family has been touched by the big C too though. Such an awful and indiscriminate disease! That's why every penny for research counts. All the best for your family, mate.
I cannot imagine riding through a city like London, especially using clipless pedals. I'd feel safer dodging bears and copperheads on my mountain bike. You and Jimmy never fail to brighten my day. Eagerly awaiting part 2.
I don't envy you riding through London, kudos for getting through unscathed. I've said it before, every group needs a Jimmy, his enthusiasm is fantastic and I can imagine he's the best person to have around if you're feeling down 😁
You’re not wrong, Alex. He’s just what you need when the mood is dropping. 👌🏻 And yeh, I may have mentioned it already but I hate road riding in London!
Are those cleats from Ali? If so they will be fake, I have had the same. I buy them from my LBS and they are significantly tougher! Also I have the same bottle cages as you (also from Ali 🤣) and I have had the same, the bolt head eats through the carbon... a small washer on the bolt heads gets that solved!
These ones were from ebay (if memory serves), so just as likely to be fake as the Ali ones! 🤦🏻♂️ I used the washer trick to tighten the bottle cage rivnuts up too, so they’re all nice and tight now. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway yeah they will be bought from Ali and resold on eBay. I strongly urge you to buy a set from your LBS, they last much much much longer and won’t leave you stranded one day, deffo worth the investment
Wow, it's lucky you did all that maintenance for this ride??? Remember to look out for me on the other side, I am only a short 4 hour drive from Dieppe. Enjoyable video as always thank you Mr Treadway.
As you’ll see in Part 2 next week, Richard, I had a large maintenance role in France too! 😂 Glad you enjoyed it though and apologies for not swinging by you on the way!
Hey Paul, they’re from the Decathlon My Club website. They’re really good quality and they worked out at just £20 each, including all the custom design. There is a minimum order of 10 jerseys though but it’s great for a small club or even a group of mates that would like to have their own strip. 👌🏻
Yeh, I’ve been thinking for a while that I might change over to SPDs on my road bike. I’ll wait until I’ve worn out my expensive SPD-SL shoes first though! 😂
How on earth do you manage to have so many mechanical issues? I'm honestly at a loss. Have you ever made it 100km at a stretch without the bike breaking catastrophically?
In fairness, G can afford (fitness wise) to sink the odd beer more than I can! 😂 I’ve definitely felt the benefit of not drinking this year though. Can’t see me repeating it next year but it has made a difference for me. 👌🏻

Yeh, London is no fun at all. You may picked that up from the video. 😂
There are bike lanes all over the place in London, which this group seemed to not take advantage of. Of course, the roads are busy!
A lot of cycling content out there, mostly hobbyist with a camera . This guy seems to be a good one to follow ❤
Cheers buddy, really appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 💪
Fantastic video for a fantastic cause!

Do you not carry the magic tool of good quality cable ties? Ideal for bottle cage fixes, broken shoes etc 😂

What a speech, can our club borrow Jimmy for motivation on rides? 😂

Great video - who was that Ian guy… gosh he loves the camera doesn’t he….😂
He’ll do anything to be on TV, that lad! 😂

Could;t agree more Andrew! No-one would ever need Prozac again! 😂
Mountain bike set up much more durable than road cleats and you can actually walk properly at your destination!!

Only once…. It was a Tuesday back in 2018! 😂
No such thing as a nice non alcoholic beer!!!. Even Garaint Thomas snaffles the odd proper beer!.
In fairness, G can afford (fitness wise) to sink the odd beer more than I can! 😂

I'm not sure who this Ian bloke is, but he seems like a top fella!
Yeh, he’s alright, I guess! 😂
Must be some dodgy cleats going about as mine bust both sets. Lesson learnt was never buy off eBay and only buy genuine ones
Certainly looks that way, Shane! I'll need to stop penny pinching and buy the kosher ones now, as you say! 😂
