    Bravo and brava to the cast and crew for another excellent episode. Well written, directed, acted and filmed. While some have already commented on the unexpected ending, in truth either way it would have been magnificent. It was a powerful episode that also kept to the spirit of Trek. I do miss some of the old cast, but like any film series understand they aren't always available for successive appearances. I hope you do more and thank you for such a quality show.

      Thank you! The cast is in constant flux. We have some wonderful cast members, and for every post we have two or three characters. The reason why the cast changes so much is that they're all actors in various theater groups including Theater Albany, Southwest Georgia University, Darton College. Others have moved on to new cities. Some have gone on to work in television and movies. Every time we lose a cast member, we bring in another! This gives us an opportunity to develop new characters, and we always look forward to that. Wait until you see some of the cast for Season 3!

    I love ALL of these fan films. CBS squandered at least 20 years of Star Trek stories. At least fans have the common sense to fill in those gaps as well as contribute significantly to this timeless space saga. Kudos!

    Ah this was a well thought out episode as expected. I would have beamed them up and found some where else for them to start again. The slaughter of the children was too heartbreaking. I gather I am not cut out to be a Captain if I must defer to StarFleet regs on this decision. If there were thousands of people leaving them to battle it out, okay. But so few and with no means to defend themselves, alas I am to softened by age and life lessons. The plus here is Potemkin always leaves me thoughtful. Thanks to the former and current crews for continuing to personify the spirit of Star Trek.

    Nice. Despite obvious limited budget/FX issues, I find myself liking this series more so than many of the other Star Trek web series being made. The acting here (for the most part) is much more natural and watchable than those other fan-made series and the writing/storyline is very good. The fellow who plays the captain does so in a fairly decent and believable way, and actually * looks * the part, which goes a long way in carrying the series.

    On the surface we see the crew of the Potemkin stepping in the middle of two tribes at war, if we succumb to our Starfleet training it’s easy to focus on the code of non interference, yet interwoven into this plot is a question, “Do you measure up to who you think you are?”
    When that moment or single event questions everything you stood for or believed to be truth. Will you live up to it?
    I saw Shakespeare’s question launched into the future,”To thine own self be true” with many examples:
    The leader that runs to the hills to save himself, the teacher that stands between certain death and her students, the Vulcan child who’s belief in peace is shattered in her last seconds of life, the warrior that switches to the winning side to save his skin, the young Vulcan Starfleet officer that learns race does not equal morals or character , the great leader Sarat, a man so confident in his faulty sense of leadership until he runs into his first true leader which takes us to the Captain, Starfleet’s finest taking Justice into his own hands.
    The author doesn’t simply separate right from wrong for us, it’s skillfully left for the viewer to consider.

    This episode is amazing. I don't usually warm up to a new Star Trek concept right away. It took a while for me to get into The Next Generation because I had been watching the original series since I was a kid in'66. I live in SC and this is made next door in. Albany, Georgia? We have a lot of tech schools and fine actors here in the South so filming should be cost effective. And the ending was the best ST surprise and shock in years. So I hope all Trek fans get behind this series. There is a rumor that CBS is considering returning Star Trek to network tv. They should consider this.

    That...was...amazing....I enjoyed that way more than ST:ITD. Extremely well done! I was impressed at the location shooting and how you "redressed" whatever that gazebo was not to mention building the full scale obelisk.
    I know black hat villains isn't PP stock and trade like a lot of other fan productions so this was a rare treat to have one and let me tell you...he's your Khan!
    Then there was the writing,,,before the teaser was over I knew the story editor David would be the writer the minute Frazier joked to T'Noshi she had "no honor" for stepping on the spitting bug and her reaction as that was clear that was someone clearly adept at handling how characters speak in the Star Trek universe.
    I believe I read in an article that Ms. Woods was a last minute replacement for a no show? Talk about providence. Glad she and the character will be carrying over to TRISTAN as I would label her your "breakout" character ala Data on TNG or The Doctor on VOY. Speaking of TRISTAN I can't wait for it to come out as I am almost out of POTEMKIN episodes to watch. I've been pacing myself but soon no more will be left :(
    Will all the TRiSTAN characters be getting a 'teaser' episode like the doctor? If not I am curious about the Branwyn character played by Leslie Lewis. From your youtube interview about TRiSTAN you dropped a suggestion she had issues with her Orion heritage. Is her mother Betazoid and her father Orion or is it the other way around. I sense great possibilities with this character.
    Sorry for the long post but the fiction writer and the life long Trek fanI truly appreciate what you are doing with this web series! Off to watch the "DUTY BOUND" episode!

      Yes, Christin was a last minute casting decision. At the suggestion of Jeffrey Green, Christin (one of Jeff's students at Georgia Southwestern State University) was brought in to replace an actress whose work committments made filming Fridays and Satudays for 19 weeks an impossibility.

      Potemkin1711 What I like about this and many of the other Star Trek fan films is that focuses on ships other than the Enterprise, that it is "Star Fleet," not just one ship doing everything. Don't get me wrong, I do also enjoy the work of Star Trek: Phase II and Star Trek: Continues, but I like seeing the missions of other ships and new and different story lines.

    That's a really nice episode. The ending is interesting; it's a cliffhanger in a way. The viewer remains behind with so many questions. Was this right? Was this excusable? And how will Cpt Grigory deal with his guilt later on?
    On the other hand it shows how similar Cpt Grigory is in some points to all the other COs in Star Trek, in being like a parent to his crew, committed and emotionally attached.

    "Put away your expectations, if you're going to serve aboard a starship."
    One of the best lines in Star Trek -- ever. I mean that. And I can see that it's not that Grigory didn't want to help, but simply that he was not permitted by the Prime Directive. If not for that, I think he would have stepped in, especially after hearing that Sarat was murdering children. I think other captains would have chosen differently, but I do admire Grigory or upholding the principle, even if it sucked to do it.
    Also loved seeing Dr. Anderson actor in an earlier role (I really should have started with Potemkin rather than the other series, lol).
    I also feel like the Vulcan ambassador was just wrong. The T'mek didn't have to be reintegrated, they could have just been relocated.

    This is good. The stages and the F/X are more than passable, and the acting is almost there. One of the things I learned in my college days, though, is that there's a difference between delivering lines and engaging in dialogue. Dialogue comes quickly. Sometimes, one person cuts another off so that two people are speaking at the same time. There were a lot of unnatural pauses between speakers and between sentences.
    But, as former head of training in The Federation Online RPG, I take particular issue with the writing of this episode.
    Somebody flunked "Prme Directive 101."
    The Prime Directive states that the Federation should NEVER interfere with a prewarp culture--and this episode does a great job of showing why. Wen presented with what was shown on that viewscreen early in the episode, any starship captain worth his pips would know enough not to let the natives see him until he knew what was going on. His best move, in fact, would be to turn the wholw thing pover to the specialists in Starfleet Di;pllomatic Corps. When that away team beamed down to the planet, they had already violated the Prime Directive and our good Captain was ready to be lined up for a court martial.
    Then we have the matter of T'Noshi. She was co ncerned that she let her weapon fall into what turned out to be enemy hands? Heck! She gave those people Vulcan esper skills--all ALSO in DIRECT violation of the Prime Drirective. Her offer of resignation is the sanest thing she did in the whole episode! If she doesn't, she should be prosecuted.
    This could turn into a huge scandal if the brass caught wind of it. It is a mess of incompetence piled on top of blithering incompetence. I hope that someone recognizes that.

    • @Potemkin1711
      @Potemkin1711  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirk does the same thing several times in TOS by choosing to interfere with a civilization that is not growing or thriving, or even simply not to his liking, such as in "A Taste of Amargeddon," "Return of the Archons," "Patterns of Force," "A Private Little War," and "A Piece of the Action," to name but a few. Your interpretation is more a TNG-esque approach, not that that's wrong or a bad thing, but simply different that the timeframe we're dealing with. Perhaps it was T'Noshi's actions that led to a strengthening of the Prime Directive. T'Noshi's actions, in fact, are the subject of a very short but upcoming vignette entitled, "Inquiry," to be filmed the summer of 2015.

    • @cpuwrite
      @cpuwrite 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL! You got me. "The Federation RPG" is set slightly after TNG. In fact, there are those who argue that Kirk's reckless escapades are part of what led to the tightening of the PD in the Tng time frame. Glad to hear that I anticipated your move. :P Too bad Ill never get the chance to try my pen hand at this wonderful burst of creativity you've got going.
