- An EPIC 15000km road trip to the SERENGETI National Park - Africa Travel Documentary PART I
In January 2011, exactly nine years before I started this TH-cam Channel, my best friend, JI de Wet and I, embarked on an epic 15000 km road trip from Pretoria in South Africa to the Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. It was the ultimate overlanding adventure and I’m happy to have finally gotten around to editing the footage we had collected to create my first African Travel Documentary on The Safari Expert TH-cam Channel.
By the way, the awesome music used in the documentary was licensed from Epidemic Sound: www.epidemicsound.com/referra...
We had dreamed of seeing the Great Migration in Tanzania's Serengeti National Park for years so we decided to pack our bags and travel through Africa for 70 days, visiting all wildest and most iconic game reserves and national parks between South Africa and the Serengeti National Park along the way. This African travel documentary only covers the first half of our journey and includes visits to Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Hwange National Park, Lake Kariba and the Victoria Waterfalls in Zimbabwe and a number of game reserves and parks in Tanzania, including Selous Game Reserve, Tarangire National Park and, ultimately, the Serengeti National Park.
It not only documents all the scenic places we visited and beautiful animals we saw there, but so focuses on the amazing and interesting people we met along the way, as well as the fun we had traveling together… Highlights in this African travel documentary include searching for lions in Hwange, white water rafting on the mighty Zambezi River, tiger fishing on Lake Kariba and relaxing in the crystal clear water of Kapishya Hot Springs in Zambia. We also saw sixteen lion cubs in the road one morning and took a bucket list hot-air balloon ride over the Serengeti National Park.

I didn't know the Masai are sponsored by Goodyear. Great adventure, would love to do the same someday
Started by watching part two accidently, stopped halfway in to see part one, as I'd hoped you would have provided your route map, sadly not, but, what an absolute dream of a trip. Thank you so very, very much XX

We loved it mate, what awesome adventures/memories. We also have a vid our friends made of our trip to Tanzania back in 2015. If I remember I will try and bring the usb for when we catch up some time in HWE : )
Thanks Brian. That would be awesome to see!!
Lekke baddies
Nice video which is the song at the start
Hope you stocked up on biltong
Hi guys. Awesome trip... I want to do a similar trip to the Serengeti to see the great migration in 2022. Dec 2019 i drove to Tanzania and the trip was planned in 3 weeks. But this time I want to plan well cause this time I will be traveling with 3 toddlers. Can I get in touch with you to share your trip plan and itinerary, camping and accommodation spots, does and don't ,borders, distances and time traveled etc.
Of course, Mogale. Send me an email on askthesafariexpert@gmail.com and I’ll help where I can 😎👍🏻
What an awesome trip!! Do we get to see the return journey and its adventures? How easy and safe was it to drive through the various countries?
G Babe, the plan is definitely to make a follow up documentary about the way back, but it’s one for a bit later... 😉 It was easy enough and very safe to travel up to the Serengeti - as long as you don’t drive at night, too long distances in one go or too fast.
Great doccie, which bugs pestered you guys the most and what worked to keep them away? Is that mosquito bite bumps on Jl's head or only the fashionable cut?😆
Bundubeard Boendoebaard , by far the worst bugs were the tsetse flies in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park! 😝😝😝🦟🦟🦟 I’m not sure about the bumps on Ji’s head... 🤔 Maybe it’s because he showered a bit less frequently than usual... 😂
@@TheSafariExpert I figured as much, ever heard of Avon oh so soft, or something like that, plenty of guys on the 4x4 forums swears by it!
Nice seeing those murderous lions? They killed my giraffe homie 🦒
I am planning to start my trip from Kenya to SA n back kenya. can u recommend routes ,camp sites n interesting places to see. Thanks
KQ
Muneer, there are soooo many options 🤯 I loved Ruaha NP in Tanzania, and The Old Farm House was a great place to camp en route to Malawi. Speaking of which, I’d drive through Malawi as opposed to Zambia, because the roada are much better! What time of the year will you be traveling and is your goal to see animals, experience culture...?
Hi i have a question i will go to Tanzania soon and i want to do some road trip around Africa
So do u think rent a car or buy a car with one better
Pls answer if u had a free time thx
Hi Max. I suppose it depends on how long you are going for 🤔 If you are traveling for multiple months, buying one and then selling it afterwards might be more cost-effective. It’s just finding the right car that’s well looked-after and fully kitted that’s the challenge.
Complains about food poisoning, next? Walks barefoot in mud! Bilhariziose? 🤔 Great video though!
😜
