I am an Indian living in Washington DC and I stumbled onto this podcast along with Pakistonomy and I am a huge fan of both of these podcasts along with the show Zara Hutt Kay. When I saw you were going to bring on Zarrar Khuhro I was excited and I must say this was just fantastic. There have been excellent episodes on this podcast, but this one was just fantastic. I could not stop smiling listening to Zarrar Khuhro. What a brilliant podcast, and what a brilliant mind. It takes a genius mind to discuss pakistan politics and DC verse in the same interview. Just pure gold !!

I still do not understand why the liberal minded people of Pakistan are still stuck in the same old thought? Our all PM did many great things and few things which we don't agree with but mostly all did thier part. Modi is the one who did it with mind-boggling speed. First about IITs, Since 1950 to 2014, there was total 16 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). After Modi's win in 2014, we have 23 IITs which means on an average he built one IIT each year. Can you imagine now? Similarly, there were only 7 All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in India and after 2014 Modi built 8 more so now we have 15 AIIMS. Similarly, till 2014 there were 9 IIITs in India. In the subsequent 5 years (2014-2019), 16 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) was added. Now on Indian Institute of Management (IIM), there were total 13 IIMs in India till 2014 and now we have 20. Total of 7 new IIMs have been built by PM Narendra Modi. It will take full day to give you data of infrastructure, roads, highway, expressway, railway, metro, high speed railway, digital India, startup, hundreds of social welfare schemes, water, pension, gas, electricity, foreign policy, military, space....so I'm stopping here. To understand Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath, first you have to understand the secularism of India. There are two types of secularism in India. One in which one sided decision is made only for the Muslim people by closing the eyes and the other in which real secularism is practiced. The irony of our country is that we were taught from a long time ago to keep sacrificing ourselves for the Muslim community and always stay quiet. They told us that this is secularism. If you talk about equality then you are not secular but a fascist. Can there be different laws for different communities in a secular country? How can there be personal law in a secular country? The debate is about this. After defense and railways in India, if anyone has the maximum land, then it is with the Waqf Board of a Muslim. Is this secularism? The property and money of Hindu temples is controlled by the government but the religious places of all other religions are free. Is this secularism? It is not even your fault in this narrative because our own country and system had created this narrative that keep quiet and don't say anything. If spoken then it will be against secularism. And the biggest loss of this fake secularism has happened to the Muslim community itself. Those poor people never thought why they remained backward in the race of development. Instead of providing development, all the parties kept making them their pawns and if they ask anything, so called silence them by showing the fear of RSS and BJP. The party like Congress gave Waqf Board, triple talaq, private rules, lands to those who were the leaders of their community but the poor people remained in poverty. They are still playing in the hand of congress and other so called secular parties and these parties are just cashing their hate against Hindu community. Yogi Adityanath said that how can anyone raise slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad" while living in India because we are regularly facing terrorist attacks from Pakistan. So what was wrong in this? Yogi Adityanath said azaan from the mosque He said that the sound of Azaan should not be above 80 decimals, so what was wrong in it because this decision was given by the High Court. Everyone has been given their rights in the secular constitution. If you want to recite Azaan through speaker then you do it but those who belong to other religions also have the right to sleep peacefully in the morning and not to be disturbed forcefully by loud noises 5 times a day. This is real secularism. For once Just check communal violence in Uttar Pradesh (UP) before 2017 and after Yogi Adityanath government after 2017. Almost zero communal violence. Even his haters also voted for him for his management and law and order of state. And don't forget that it was Modi who stopped his speech at a political rally when an azaan was happening or reciting on the loudspeaker near his rally ground. 3rd point about Rahul Gandhi Disqualification: On September 28, 2013 Rahul Gandhi tore and trased the Executive Order or Ordinance of Protection of Leaders from Disqualification which was singed by his party PM Manmohan Singh and dubbed the ordinance “complete nonsense” and recommended it should be “torn apart”. So is Modi being a Mass murderer solely based on charges on government inaction relating to the Gujarat Riots? or are there more arguments. Also, what's with the confidence on Yogi being worse? Is it because he is a temple priest? I am not dismissing you or opposing your views, but asking to know about your reasons for such extreme views. Regarding IITs, I am an IITian, while Nehru government started IITs initially, the BJP government scaled it up and IITs have improved considerably in the last few years as well. The change is visible on ground for everybody to see. A lot of their success can be attributed to their autonomy. Also, while MMS was great and the work he did especially as an FM was game changing. The current government has been successful in implementing many ideas from congress government which stayed in an ideation stage for a very long time. They have also introduced useful reforms and the economic success is not purely because of congress and MMS.
Bhai we have encountered so many relegious zealots and crazy mullahs that we know from experience a temple priest / mosque cleric / church pastor in politics is a perfect recepie for disaster. You were fortunate to have leaders like Nehru and Gandhi and even Bajpai, we had to face Ayub and Yahya and Zia, all of whom fostered and nurtured figures comparable to Yogi (Hafiz Saeed, Leaders of Sipah e Sahaba, Lashkar e Jhangvi etc are a few examples). That's why we know this for a fact: nothing good can ever come out of priests in politics.

But if you think about it, it is a free country, why should someone be discriminated based on their profession. That being said, the law has to be supreme and everyone must be equal infront of it. Maybe I am being too idealistic, but a bias because his profession was of a priest is not convincing to me. He is not a religious head, he is just a priest, so what. In countries in the subcontinent, most people are religious, should that bar them from politics? I wouldn't compare him to designated terrorists like Hafiz Saeed. I mean if a church pastor was convinced to give his church land to setup India's first rocket launchpad, I think we should stop seeing religious people from the lens of suspicion. We should aim for a culture where being religious and secular are not contradictions unlike the majority narrative in the west.

He might not be a designated terrorist himself, but designated terrorists don’t just pop out of nowhere, they are the culmination of a political process which starts with giving public offices to people with a religious bent of mind. Your example of a church man giving his land for the launchpad is also quite absurd. In Pakistan, whenever there is a natural catastrophe, flooding earthquakes etc., the religious parties are extremely active not only running charity drives but also on the ground in rescue and relief operations. IK has built a charitable cancer hospital. But when you come to learn about these people’s views on social issues, on the treatment of women and minorities, then you realise how regressive and dangerous they are. So such actions do not qualify one for a public office. It’s not a matter of western or eastern society either. Politics works on the principle of power and religion brings easy, instant and unbridled power. This is a matter of human psychology. This has been the experience of all human societies and like I said, we know it best because we have experienced it first hand. The contradiction will always remain because of the nature of politics, societies and psychology and aiming to remove it is way too idealistic and has always been proven futile.

I'm not a religious person, but everyone is free to their religious beliefs as long as they don't infringe upon the rights of others. I used to think it is wrong for Yogi to be a CM, but frankly after taking office, he's not made inflammatory remarks sparking any communal tension and is talking about the right things. The first time he was not the CM candidate and came out of nowhere, the second time he won on his own merit. Even if he does something like that, I would like to see him fail in that. Also anyone can do that, not just him. I might not agree with his views, but I'm fight for his right to those views. While it may not be an ideal world and religion could be misused, at least we should strive to do things the ideal way. Rights of a person to hold public office should not be based on his religious affiliations or his profession. There are constitutional and systemic checks and balances to ensure that he/she keeps his personal prejudices away while performing his/her duties. Ideally religion must not be used in politics. That said politics in the subcontinent is far from ideal. There are reports of bjp in UP reaching out to pasmanda muslims, old game of caste uniting what religion divides and religion uniting what caste divides. Nevertheless, regarding those holding public offices, I believe religion is completely personal and it is not anybody else's business.

Rahul Gandhi's case is hilarious and sad at the same time. He called all Modi's as thieves, Modis belong to other backward castes so some MLA files criminal defamation case against him (personally i feel criminal defamation should be removed). Lawyer didn't attend court sessions, didn't file any responses, Rahul didn't apologise for his remarks and court got pissed and gave him maximum sentence of 2 years. He got disqualified immediately. There was a third front which was forming against Modi, now it's again Modi vs Rahul and BJP will cross 330 seats 😂 Indian judiciary is independent, population still has belief in judiciary. It's so independent they can appoint their own kids and government can't stop it. Present CJI DY Chandrachud is son of ex CJI. Am seeing this show for the first time! Am deeply impressed by the knowledge and presentation of the host! Guest is a mixed bag. Few answers were quite insightful, some were very kiddish and immature.

Bro, I think we Indians need an equivalent of this show. It's good to take forward the intellectual argument in Pakistan. I am also amused by the India needling in the show, but it's cool if it helps the algorithm and promotes the channel for the audience for which it is meant. Though, in my opinion you should also bring in some Indian experts for a dedicated show because a lot of people who talk about India talk on set Pakistani stereotypes of India and Indians. First about IITs, Since 1950 to 2014, there was total 16 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). After Modi's win in 2014, we have 23 IITs which means on an average he built one IIT each year. Can you imagine now?
Similarly, there were only 7 All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in India and after 2014 Modi built 8 more so now we have 15 AIIMS.
Similarly, till 2014 there were 9 IIITs in India. In the subsequent 5 years (2014-2019), 16 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) was added.
Now on Indian Institute of Management (IIM), there were total 13 IIMs in India till 2014 and now we have 20. Total of 7 new IIMs have been built by PM Narendra Modi.

To understand Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath, first you have to understand the secularism of India. There are two types of secularism in India. One in which one sided decision is made only for the Muslim people by closing the eyes and the other in which real secularism is practiced.

How can there be personal law in a secular country? The debate is about this. After defense and railways in India, if anyone has the maximum land, then it is with the Waqf Board of a Muslim. Is this secularism?
The property and money of Hindu temples is controlled by the government but the religious places of all other religions are free. Is this secularism?
It is not even your fault in this narrative because our own country and system had created this narrative that keep quiet and don't say anything. If spoken then it will be against secularism.
And the biggest loss of this fake secularism has happened to the Muslim community itself. Those poor people never thought why they remained backward in the race of development. Instead of providing development, all the parties kept making them their pawns and if they ask anything, so called silence them by showing the fear of RSS and BJP. The party like Congress gave Waqf Board, triple talaq, private rules, lands to those who were the leaders of their community but the poor people remained in poverty. They are still playing in the hand of congress and other so called secular parties and these parties are just cashing their hate against Hindu community.
Yogi Adityanath said that how can anyone raise slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad" while living in India because we are regularly facing terrorist attacks from Pakistan. So what was wrong in this? Yogi Adityanath said azaan from the mosque He said that the sound of Azaan should not be above 80 decimals, so what was wrong in it because this decision was given by the High Court. Everyone has been given their rights in the secular constitution. If you want to recite Azaan through speaker then you do it but those who belong to other religions also have the right to sleep peacefully in the morning and not to be disturbed forcefully by loud noises 5 times a day. This is real secularism.
For once Just check communal violence in Uttar Pradesh (UP) before 2017 and after Yogi Adityanath government after 2017. Almost zero communal violence. Even his haters also voted for him for his management and law and order of state.
And don't forget that it was Modi who stopped his speech at a political rally when an azaan was happening or reciting on the loudspeaker near his rally ground.
3rd point about Rahul Gandhi Disqualification:
On September 28, 2013 Rahul Gandhi tore and trased the Executive Order or Ordinance of Protection of Leaders from Disqualification which was singed by his party PM Manmohan Singh and dubbed the ordinance “complete nonsense” and recommended it should be “torn apart”. He have option to go to Session Court, High Court, Supreme Court. So don't worry about that.

Regarding IITs, I am an IITian, while Nehru government started IITs initially, the BJP government scaled it up and IITs have improved considerably in the last few years as well. The change is visible on ground for everybody to see. A lot of their success can be attributed to their autonomy.
Also, while MMS was great and the work he did especially as an FM was game changing. The current government has been successful in implementing many ideas from congress government which stayed in an ideation stage for a very long time. They have also introduced useful reforms and the economic success is not purely because of congress and MMS.
Bhai we have encountered so many relegious zealots and crazy mullahs that we know from experience a temple priest / mosque cleric / church pastor in politics is a perfect recepie for disaster. You were fortunate to have leaders like Nehru and Gandhi and even Bajpai, we had to face Ayub and Yahya and Zia, all of whom fostered and nurtured figures comparable to Yogi (Hafiz Saeed, Leaders of Sipah e Sahaba, Lashkar e Jhangvi etc are a few examples). That's why we know this for a fact: nothing good can ever come out of priests in politics.

But if you think about it, it is a free country, why should someone be discriminated based on their profession. That being said, the law has to be supreme and everyone must be equal infront of it. Maybe I am being too idealistic, but a bias because his profession was of a priest is not convincing to me. He is not a religious head, he is just a priest, so what.

I mean if a church pastor was convinced to give his church land to setup India's first rocket launchpad, I think we should stop seeing religious people from the lens of suspicion. We should aim for a culture where being religious and secular are not contradictions unlike the majority narrative in the west.

This guy has some very questionable political ideas and their root lies in him having a religious background. He might not be a designated terrorist himself, but designated terrorists don’t just pop out of nowhere, they are the culmination of a political process which starts with giving public offices to people with a religious bent of mind.
Your example of a church man giving his land for the launchpad is also quite absurd. In Pakistan, whenever there is a natural catastrophe, flooding earthquakes etc., the religious parties are extremely active not only running charity drives but also on the ground in rescue and relief operations. IK has built a charitable cancer hospital. But when you come to learn about these people’s views on social issues, on the treatment of women and minorities, then you realise how regressive and dangerous they are. So such actions do not qualify one for a public office.
It’s not a matter of western or eastern society either. Politics works on the principle of power and religion brings easy, instant and unbridled power. This is a matter of human psychology. This has been the experience of all human societies and like I said, we know it best because we have experienced it first hand. The contradiction will always remain because of the nature of politics, societies and psychology and aiming to remove it is way too idealistic and has always been proven futile.

I respect your opinion, but disagree. I'm not a religious person, but everyone is free to their religious beliefs as long as they don't infringe upon the rights of others. I used to think it is wrong for Yogi to be a CM, but frankly after taking office, he's not made inflammatory remarks sparking any communal tension and is talking about the right things. The first time he was not the CM candidate and came out of nowhere, the second time he won on his own merit. Even if he does something like that, I would like to see him fail in that. Also anyone can do that, not just him.
I might not agree with his views, but I'm fight for his right to those views.
While it may not be an ideal world and religion could be misused, at least we should strive to do things the ideal way. Rights of a person to hold public office should not be based on his religious affiliations or his profession. There are constitutional and systemic checks and balances to ensure that he/she keeps his personal prejudices away while performing his/her duties.
Ideally religion must not be used in politics.
That said politics in the subcontinent is far from ideal. There are reports of bjp in UP reaching out to pasmanda muslims, old game of caste uniting what religion divides and religion uniting what caste divides.
Nevertheless, regarding those holding public offices, I believe religion is completely personal and it is not anybody else's business.

Anyway to set few things straight-- Modi wasn't a mass murderor, much less a hardline Hindu nationalist as you so much harp on. He is essentially a left liberal (as are most of his party members), likely a neo-Buddhist. Judge people on what they do, not what they speak, or others about them.
Fun fact- RSS itself is not a Hindu organization, they themselves wouldn't want to be called as such. Same can be said about BJP, which is pretty much a center left Islamic politicial party now for the most part, except of course some critical elections where they suddenly turn HHS.

2-PTI and PML-N value religion as an instrument for social control and creating a passive mindset. This softens popular resistance to massive wealth inequities. During Pakistan’s early years, Muslim League leaders had exploited this passivity to block land reform in Punjab and Sindh. This holds true today too.
3-PML-N accuses Imran Khan of playing the religion card, in fact it, too, does the same. Case in point: through the Single National Curriculum, IK sought to yoke madressahs and regular schools into a single hybrid system. The PDM government has accelerated its implementation.

Modi magic works better if there's a Gandhi as his opponent. Getting Rahul disqualified has done exactly that. It has put him in the limelight. Bro, I think we Indians need an equivalent of this show. It's good to take forward the intellectual argument in Pakistan. I am also amused by the India needling in the show, but it's cool if it helps the algorithm and promotes the channel for the audience for which it is meant. Though, in my opinion you should also bring in some Indian experts for a dedicated show because a lot of people who talk about India talk on set Pakistani stereotypes of India and Indians.
