Why did it overheat in the first place? Bad cap, cracked head, blown gasket? Any idea, problem may still exist.
@@leonardleveque3745 did you watch? It had a freeze plug replaced and the coolant was improperly refilled. It left too little coolant in the engine to keep it from overheating.

Bubbles in your coolant can also mean your exhaust is going into your coolant and your coolant is going out your tail pipe as steam.

You need a vaccuum pump to vaccuum the air out of the radiator. Snap-on sells a vaccuum powered by an air compressor.
Cory, That would be the correct way to do it.but this method works temporarily.
One of my professors in college drove and serviced Vettes, and some students couldn't understand how he could afford a car like this in the mid 80's, but he made his money restoring these. I also had a boss that owned a mini Vette Opel, and it was a nice looking car.

I have to mitt it, and I’ve always been kind of a car guy, I’ve never paid any attention to air in the coolant I just kept it topped off and the overflow filled which should sort of automatically do that if it’s designed halfway decently. Even at two grand that’s a pretty awesome by the 500 was amazing, awesome deal made for a great video as well. Lol 🙌🏼

I would have gave you 2 grand in a second great deal for a great car that deserves to be restored hopefully it goes to someone that will restore it and it not go to waste

That cooling system needs a decent flush. The coolant looked like river water when the thermostat opened up.
Most likely a stop leak for the exhaust gasses getting into the coolant

Great video this is going to help me out a lot with my 85 chevy camaro I also been having some Overheating issues And I could not get the air bubbles out of the cooling system at all Here in Florida we have no hills so I think I need to Jack the vehicle up because doing it without jacking it up is not working for me And all of the cooling is getting everywhere keeps coming out of the radiator So there definitely is an air pocket in there somewhere if u have Any more tips that would be great thanks
take it to the mechanic and have them do a pressurized coolant exchange

This can also be done by leaving the rad cap off until it burps the air out, you'll lose coolant, but then just keep adding it back.
no august...it doesn't work buddy...that's why I did it this way. I spent 3 hours pouring coolant in the radiator and still had air pockets..hence the reason I made the video..$15 solution to the problem

Back when you picked up the bed I questioned you about getting it because you were so tall I would find that a very uncomfortable ride but you know boys like their toys and the girls I have the wrong ideas for toys mine personally around guns bows fishing and hunting

Or knew of a cracked head that was allowing the exhaust gases to escape into the coolant. Hence the reason why when he added antifreeze it came out metallic color the same color found in most engine stop leaks so that's a strong indication that the head or heads where trash.
these old vettes can be troublesome
I agree...something is astray...you can see the additive floating around...sometimes additive itself can be the cause of oveheating as it interferes with the heat dissipation in the block and cloggs up coolant passeges

I would take off very far until I felt comfortable with the cooling system. Maybe it needs to be flushed. Looks like a lot of stuff came from the motor when the thermostat opened up
