I’m 53 years old and I just played my first 9 holes with my Gen 7 XP irons and all I can say is WOW! First off the misses are INCREDIBLY GOOD! 2nd I just had Gen 6 -P irons and these are much better in every aspect. I’m a 6 handicap and your videos on the Gen 7 prompted me to have a look and all I can say is THANK YOU! Keep up the great reviews! The XP’s might be the absolute best iron I’ve ever played. Feel, forgiveness, distance and they will stop when struck well. I give them 5 ⭐️
I've always been confused as to why any player has any concern about what the club looks like, when the point of playing golf is to move the ball in the direction of the hole with the maximum benefit. What is it that makes a golfer pay more for better looks with reduced results? Blades look great but my results with them are not in line with the price I paid. Game improvement clubs (mine are Wilson Launch Pad 2 clubs with senior graphite shafts) are reducing my handicap each game I play. It's such that several friends have bought the same clubs. So why pay for looks when the real benefit should be function?
It really depends on the player. Game improvement irons have great left to right dispersion, but generally have poor(er) front to back gaps and are harder to stop on the greens due to lower spin (stronger lofts). "Players" irons are popular among better players and even pros recently because while they indeed not as forgiving, the dispersion is much tighter all around, easier to stop, and you don't get the occasional 10-15 yard fliers.
Every time I look down at my Mizuno pro’s, I don’t think about my swing, I wonder at their beauty. They’re not just a tool , they are a piece of art, hand forged with every part of the process going through human hands. They are excellent communicators, you always know when you haven’t got the best out of them, but it’s pure silk when you do. Each to their own, but I l’ll take the form of my clubs over the function of yours
I’m a 62 year old nine Handicap and can play a lot varied irons. But, I chose the Cleveland Halos, the brand new 2021 model I got brand new and super inexpensive. You can get em for $500 at some U S stores, which in my opinion are way better than the new ones. The 5.5 Cypher shaft is awesome. And there so much fun! Who cares what they look like.
I'll leave a comment here because for some reason for the last couple of days my screen only offers a "dislike" thumbs down icon. Weird . . . .. I do want to say that I play Gen3's, which I still love, and my buddy just got the new Gen7's. He hit them for the first time today, and I hit a few with them. These clubs feel so good and fly so well. I do think they're a couple notches above my Gen3's.
The only person that cares what a club looks like is the person hitting them. I'm a 3.7 hdcp according to the USGA and I play Callaway Rogue ST Max OS irons. I love them. I played Tommy Armour 845's for 20+ years prior to JUST upgrading to the Rogues.
I am a 13 handicap and getting lower steadily. I just bought a new set of JPX 923's from mizuno. I had a hard time getting fitted into another set of game improvement irons, especially a full set, however I have a fantastic fitter that said that my number looked fantastic with those irons. I can stop balls almost dead at 180 yards with the 6 iron...why in the world would I want anything else? They talked me out of buying a more "advanced" set and I am so glad they did because why would I need want anything that is even harder to hit?
I have the Gen5s in the P the Black Label Elite’s and love them this would be my 3rd year playing them, but I skipped on the 6s, but hit them and they were as in feel a little better than the 5s but I was in Atlanta at the store and was looking for the 7 and was told not yet and they won’t put them out till they know they are a better club than the 6…we I got a shirt and ordered the Closer II with the special shaft and love it…putting for Dough ⛳️ Now back to the Gen7s…when they dropped I got the Heroes email and was on it…we got my specs but we decided to go XP this time but with weaker lofts to equate to the Ps Now I’m a decent striker of the ball but in my late 50s wanted more forgiveness and the ball speed with the same performance I have in the 5’s So we got them dialed in with my options and the swing weight was key… I got them last Saturday and Whoa 😳 I don’t know how they did it but my miss hits feel like the 3s felt flush and that iron was the best they made until the 5s to me and you can’t even tell by looking at the ball fight, but you can feel it as I’m glad I can but my misses are fewer now because of the slightly bigger footprint which you really can’t see as with offset it is there as you setup to the ball, but again doesn’t put me off… I got 5-W and I’m very impressed and was hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed…I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION!!! Give then a try…I can also work the ball better which is interesting cause I wasn’t expecting that and my Son was with my the first time I hit them on the range and was Dad…those are 🔥!!! Your hitting them Long, Highr at the flags and they sound 🤌🏾 Give them a 👀, I’m an avg golfer as well…⛳️ I love this channel the insight I get is how I play golf… Now I got mine before watching this content, but would be getting them now if I hadn’t based on what I saw and heard. They are again 🔥
Andy is definitely hitting the ball well these days. I swing at a similar speed to Andy. For me a carry of 175 yards is just short of my 5i and just a bit too far for my 6i. Looking at the specs for the XP irons I find that the loft of the 7i at 27 degrees is a little weaker than my 5i but stronger than my 6i. Then I looked at the standard length of shaft compared to my irons - again PXG XP irons have longer shafts, the 7i in the XP at 37.5" is the same as the 6i in my set. There is nothing magical about the performance, it is simply a function of the loft of the club head and the length of shaft, but if I get a flight that looks like a 7i in terms of peak height and descent angle a spin rate that sits roughly between my 5i and 6i and that carry then it is good enough for me - and I am someone who prefers control over distance.
I agree, but disagree cause I’m hitting the 7s with the weaker lofts that are equal to my 5s and they are a little further and the misses I hit are way better in the 7s and I was surprised but we got them dialed in and went with a heavier wait at the back. If you hit the Gen 3, 5 and 6s you will see what I mean the Gen 4s I don’t talk about those…🙃
I think more people should play these. And even if you play a forged cavity more traditional design, the longer irons like 4 and 5 should be swapped out for a players distance iron. Just pay attention to lofts. I play two 5 irons right now but my players distance 5 nearly identical loft to my set 4i (.5 degree weaker than the 4i)

Andy I really enjoy your videos but I do not understand why lower handicap golfers feel it's necessary to shame those who choose to play game improvement clubs? I don't think you are doing it intentionally but it still comes across that way. I am coming off a 12 year hiatus from playing golf due to 7 major surgeries. I didn't think I would ever be able to play the game again. I don't care what the club looks like and for all I care it can quack like a duck when I hit it as long as I can play the game. Slow play is a big reason more people do not play golf. For God sake more people need to play game improvement clubs to help make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
