  • Next garage video up! Its all about #welding this time on the TVR. After a great run at Oulton Park, the car developed a shuddering round corners and on closer inspection the diff had ripped itself off the chassis!

Thanks John! I watched all of your videos before I bought this car to familiarise myself with the Vixen. Thanks for watching 🙌

I had the exact same issue with GPB16J which is my Vixen S3 rally prepared car. The diff attempts to twist itself away from the chassis and it does this via the forward mounting flanges. The nearside one attempts to lift upwards and the offside one downwards. My solution was to gusset the forward mounting plates. You need to allow enough room to access the nuts as the gusset plates reduce access.

      That’s a great idea 👍

Very informative (as are your other videos) about the off-track work that keeps a race car going. Good luck for the final race of the season. But I was concerned that you were welding underneath a fibreglass body and were close to the fuel tank. Did you have an assistant standing by with a fire extinguisher?

Thanks! Hopefully the ‘day in the life of club racing’ will help other people. There’s always a risk with fibreglass and welding. The tank was empty and I have an extinguisher close to hand. Also, I have the in car one primed which has nozzles pointing at the tank as well. 🤞

@@Tomkitek That's reassuring. Too many fine TVRs have been lost to fire and I'd hate the same to happen to your Vixen.
