Rebecca, I live in the US. About 4 months ago I watched one of your videos about uvb for geckos. Of course, knowing how knowledgeable you are about them, I needed one. I tried for over a month to get a unit from the only place I could find here that sold them. They were out of stock and had a waiting list! Found a place called Carolina Dragons that had a 12” fixture. Got it, went back to the original place and ordered Arcadia’s bulb. Out of stock! After searching, I found a place in Canada that had 12” 8 watt uvb bulbs. After two months of struggle, I finally got my baby’s uvb on her enclosure! I was starting to think it would have been easier to swim the Atlantic to England to get the unit! Except, I can’t swim! But, finally, Charly has uvb! Plus, two weeks ago I converted her to a bio active terrarium! She’s dug herself a little cave behind a large piece of cork wood where she spends most of her day sleeping. It’s right over the heat pad under the enclosure.

I just got my Arcadia Reptile's ProT5 shade dweller to be used for my 6 weeks old first ever leopard gecko named Pixie. She is in a 20g long aquarium which is about 12 inch from the bottom to the top. I did attach the lamp underneath the hood of the tank so it will give about 10 inches from the light to the bottom of the tank. I am getting the deep heat projector soon and hope to install that and see her thrive in her environment for a few years before I plan on moving her to a 40g breeder tank. I hope to see some changes in her behavior for the better!

Definitely buying! Might check my local Petsmart or get online! PERFECT for my gecko! That way all I need is Calcium powder on weekdays and Vitamins and Minerals on weekends! PLUS you saved my gecko's life. I didn't know about supplements and after watching you MBD video I got some calcium and D3 powder and she is almost done with her "recovery". I quote that because I wasn't sure if she actually HAD MBD but her tail is getting thicker!

I watched a video of this reptile keeper explaining some things about this product. He said that using an actual UV radiation measuring tool, he measured the UV levels of an OLD Shadedweller unit he had been using, and apparently it was still giving off healthy levels of UV, far past its supposed lifespan. Just goes to show you that you get a quality product for your $40.

yeah i love that it's a hobby that is always trying to improve itself. over the years I've done a complete 180 on my opinion on UVB, i am so happy with it now :)

Woo! Got my ARCADIA ShadeDweller® PRO 12" Kit 110v USA Model on SALE 47.99!!!. So excited! I think mine is getting less than 3% right now. I have a little screw in 100v/110v fluorescent. I've seen a bit more activity, but it's nothing to get excited about.

What do you do for lighting inside of your wooden vivarium? Have you screwed in the light on the inside?

Been as this vid is about lighting, I was wondering if there is an equivalent to the light she mentioned in Exo terra's lighting range. I was also wondering if having too high if a bulb would be why my gecko doesn't seem to go out of his his much when it is on. I would greatly appreciate any feed back.

aw thank you. Sounds like she had some bad shedding in her past. When old skin isn't removed it eventually builds up and cuts off circulation, then the toes drop off. Sadly they won't grow back, just make sure she's not struggling too much :)
+Leopard Gecko oh no, that makes me so sad! She seems to be just fine besides sliding when she's climbing on my arm. I did notice when I brought her home that she had stuck she'd around one of her remaining claws and managed to get it off pretty well. I'll be sure to keep a careful eye on her when she's climbing about, thanks for the info! ❤️👍🏻

The only thing I have a problem with the fixture is the reflecter peels off or discolored fast and drips on lamp.had only two months and on during day only.
I’ve been re watching all these videos since I’m considering uvb , I’m a little confused as to what bulb I should use . I always thought I should use the 7% with my Exo Terra since it’s only 12 inches tall but should I get the lower bulb..? I was thinking that the 7% would be good since I’m putting the fixture on top of the screen
I was always under the impression that your vivariums were 12 inches tall 😂now I’m confused
I had the same issue, my understanding is that it depends on the distance between the top of the tank and your geckos basking spot. So I have a 12-inch tall Exo terra tank. What I want is for there to be 1-0 UB light (not the physical light but the actual UB rays) to reach the bottom of the tank and for it to increase as your gecko moves up from the basking spot ( the basking spot should have 1-2 UB rays hitting hit). For a tank like mine, you could go with the 7% one and have to raise the light higher than the top of the tank by like 2 inches or get the 2% one. This is my understanding, hope it helps.

How many watts do \you think I’ll need for a 2% UVB Arcadia? Looking into getting the 2% for my tank! ( there’s a 12 inch space between the top of the tank and the bottom)
I know I’m a little late but I just wanted to thank you so much! My gecko shed last night and this morning I found one foot was covered in stuck shed and one toe on another foot. I watched your video and it helped so much! But my leopard gecko didn’t like it very much but at least she has her foot 😂

Would you recommend a LED bulb in addition to the UVB bulb (for your 2hrs morning/ 2hrs evening method) for my instance of the habitat not getting much natural sunlight due to it being far away from the window? Or is it safe to leave the UVB bulb on "all day" on a timer?
So it is not good or best to keep it on all day but 10 to 12 hours is perfect depending on what season it is at the time. In all you want it to be on at the same time the sun outside is visible and bright. Hope that helps
So, I'm struggling to find this anywhere. What is the length of the unit / lamp. I'd like to pair it up with a jungledawn for a bioactive setup but it's going to bother me if they're both different sizes.
Would you (or anyone reading this) be able to suggest anywhere to find 2.4% UVB lighting in the U.S.? Anywhere I've been able to find since finding this video has only had the wattage and not the percentage of output, and I'm not sure if wattage has anything to do with the exact output. If I'm wrong and a certain wattage would product a certain percentage of UVB, please let me know!

So, if I have a 24x18x12 inch exo Terra aquarium, should I be getting the mini 2.4% lamp? The terrarium is 12" in height, but I am amble to provide a 10-12" gap between her highest basking spot which is what was mentioned for the 7%, so I'm a little bit confused.

Hi! So for a while now, I’ve been interested in Leopard geckos. I’m completely ok with insects, tank size and the daily maintenance. But now I’m not sure if Crested geckos would be better. I know more information on Leopard geckos, but I’ll have to research on crested. Also I’ve never owned a reptile before, I do own fish and we have a family cat. I would never let my lizard and cat interact) Sorry to bother you! Love the videos!
I got my first leopard gecko (my first reptile) a few months ago and I love her. She is so easy to take care of once I did my research. I am not considering a crested or gargoyle gecko as my next because they also seem great!
I personally have a baby leo but both are great! One factor I would say would be space, crested geckos enclosures take up less floor space but is tall. Also crested geckos require a lot more things in their tank! Just some things to consider! :)
I would get a leopard gecko as a first reptile. Their diet is much easier to follow (just make sure you are using the correct vitamins at the correct time.)😊

I can't get the shade dweller anywhere and nobody knows when they will get it due to the current situation. Do you think using the 22" 6% T5 would be alright as well on a 20gal long tank? I feel like I don't really have an option. It's either this or some probably not very useful other brand of uvb like reptisun.
I was thinking if I get this one I could just add some more plants for added shade maybe.

Wouldn't putting it on top of the screen filter out most of the uvb light, especially with a lower level of uv anyway?

Hello! I have one small question about this. So I have a 4 foot enclosure and since these bulbs are only one foot, do I need multiple kits? I thought about putting one on the warm side and one on the cool side but not really sure what to do since it is a little pricey! Thank you for all your help :)
I know this is very old but if you use 2/3 on the hot side daisy chained together and then the foot on the cold side will create a photo gradient to match the thermal gradient

looks good but i have over 40 tanks so would cost way to much so i use a differnt type here but it does the same thing and the lamps only cost $2.49 each making it easy for me to replace them often when needed only down side is they do need replaced around every 7 or 8 months so dont last as long but for the cost differance they work great and give the same benifits to the geckos

I have finally set my Leo up with this exact kit and I've been using it for about a week now. He used to always sleep outside of his hide on the warm side during the day, but now he is never out when the light is on. It is on a 12 hour cycle. Does he just need more time to adjust or do you think I should shorten/break up the cycle? Do you think it's possible, even with all of your and others' evidence suggesting UVB's benefits, that he was happier without it?

If my tank is 36x18x18 can I use the 7% uvb?
89 degrees cold outside beep heat projector is about 91 degrees then it became 94 degrees when I hook the heat mat to turn my proportional thermos so I know it's supposed to be between 100 and 110 degrees for bearded dragon so do I bump it up already have it at a hundred and ten degrees do I make it warmer what do I do
do you recommend one should start with the 2.4% kit first and then go to 7% or would starting your leo out on a 7% be okay
i’m not sure but that’s what i’m doing i’m starting mine on the 7% since they can regulate how much they take in when they want to i don’t think it really matters
I have been looking into getting one of these for my leopard gecko (and possibly my crested gecko if I enjoy the product) but I was wondering, if my gecko hasn’t had a UV light before, is it ok to go right to the 7% lamp? Or would that effect her badly (i was just curious as you had said you started with the 2.4% lamp, and I wasn’t sure if that was something I would need to do or not) I’m don’t know a ton about all the UVB or UVA stuff yet, because I didn’t really think leopard geckos or crested geckos needed them, but now that I know they could be beneficial I definitely want to learn more about it

Hi, the arcadia UVB kit (Forest) is 6% UVB but I have a gargoyle gecko which was recommended to give only 2.4% UVB. I cannot find a lit for 2.4%. Can I just use the 6% UVB kit but replace it with a 2.4% tube and provided not too much UVB for my gecko?

Yes, but the basking spot should be no closer than 8” to the bulb. 20g longs are only 12” high. A 40 gallon is ideal in general anyway.
so you have a wooden vivarium? I mean the wooden bottom? Is the heat mat okay with wood cause I read it can only go with glass vivarium
Marika the heat mat is fine with wood, as long as it’s connected to a thermostat. It may only be specific brands that work well with wood, though

Live plants need LED lighting. All lights must be turned off at night.
