      Yeah, if you have a laspe in insurance, never does it ever happen all of a sudden lol it's usually at least 2-3 months typically due to not being paid, depending on the company. I used to work in auto insurance and it was a VERY common occurrence. The insurance company is sending you emails/physical mail about it being cancelled if not paid up.

      In my looooooong history of having auto insurance (50 years), I have always been notified by my carrier MONTHS prior to the renewal date regarding the policy declarations, coverage, exclusions, rates, discounts, etc. There was never an acceptable excuse for not having continual coverage ..... even with/if anything in the policy is being "rewritten". You pay the premium (either in full or by installment payments) and if anything needs to be change, get it changed and you premium and payments are adjusted accordingly.

    • @godaistudios
      @godaistudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      While your conclusion is correct about operating a vehicle illegally, that doesn't mean you are at fault "every time." For the sake of argument, let's say that there are two vehicles. A and B. Vehicle A's owner goes to a bar, does multiple shots for 2 hours, stumbles to their car, and takes off - but does have insurance.
      Vehicle B's owner is driving around, and because they are uninsured, are being extra careful. They follow the speed limits, obey all traffic signals, and so forth.
      Vehicle A's driver, having impaired judgement, blows through a red light and slams into Vehicle B.
      According to your argument of "every time" Vehicle B is at fault for the accident - even in this extreme example. If you believe so, you may be in need of a rectal-cranial extraction.

    • @conjugalvisitor5532
      @conjugalvisitor5532 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@godaistudios- Well Mr. Duncan, you are assuming A's driver is impaired. Does multiple shots of what? Shirley temples? (That is non-alcoholic. I don't want to spread the cranium thing, so I'll try to make it simple. B's driver has known there was no insurance, thus making their fault. Had they not been operating, no accident. Even if the shots were booze, was there an underlying medical issue? Emotional? These are called mitigating circumstances. Getting a DUI is accidental. Driving without proper documentation is a choice.

    • @godaistudios
      @godaistudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@conjugalvisitor5532 Getting shots is very clear in its meaning and follows common sense. If you are lacking common sense, try using google and type in "having shots at a bar" and see if it's ambiguous.
      Getting drunk is a choice. Getting behind the wheel after getting drunk is also a choice. There may be no intent on getting into an accident, but the circumstances leading up to that were choices nonetheless.
      Keeping in mind that I'd already researched the matter, the laws determining a person at fault for the accident strangely enough don't include the status of insured or not. Funny that.
      That's not to say that there aren't some very real pitfalls for not having insurance even if you aren't at fault for it, but being at fault EVERY TIME (emphasis yours) doesn't hold up.

    • @lucidcross8282
      @lucidcross8282 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@conjugalvisitor5532 His argument for possible sakes scenario doesn't include a person drinking a non alcoholic beverage, the person in his example is impaired by alcohol so what's your point? And what do you mean "getting a DUI is an accident. Driving without documentation is a choice" ?
      That's literally the most foolish thing I have read all day. You're telling me that people accidentally drink loads of alcohol and accidentally gets in a car drunk and accidentally turns the key in the ignition and accidentally drives? No! That is a choice and a far more dangerous choice and far more immoral. It may be illegal to drive without insurance but that's just legal speaking, but has nothing to do with objective morals. I'm 43 years old. I've been an insured driver since I was 16. I have never been in an at-fault accident. So the odds of these drivers (and there are many on Judge Judy) happening to get into accidents on the ONE DAY they don't have active insurance is baloney. They just don't bother with insurance and hope to skate below the radar, until the day they get mad at the long commute and decide to cut off an insured driver...

    • @patersonplankrd
      @patersonplankrd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same applies to most US States .
      IN my home state, if an auto policy is in lapse, the vehicle owner has FIVE days to turn the license plate into the DMV.
      In order to get the plate back, the vehicle owner is required to produce proof of valid insurance and must pay a reinstatement fee of $100.
      Failing that, unless the vehicle is sold or ownership transferred to another party, the title updated to reflect the sale and the vehicle registered in the new owner's name, the court of jurisdiction issues a warrant for arrest of the vehicle owner.

    You should adopt the UK rules.
    If you're caught driving without insurance the vehicle is immediately seized (you walk home) and they can issue a £300 fine and put 6 points on your licence (amass 12 points and you lose your licence). It doesn't matter if the vehicle isn't yours and the owner has insurance, it's the driver that has to be insured. The owner has 7 day to provided documents that prove the vehicle was insured at the time of the incident, if they can't the vehicle gets crushed.

    Never ceases to amaze me. You get a certain date to pay your insurance every month. You don't pay the insurance lapses. Even if it's a 1 day lapse it's a lapse and you shouldn't drive that day or for any amount time that the policy lapses." I have insurance right now" so what? That means nothing. You still didn't have insurance the day of the accident and that day is the only one that counts

    I was pulled over because the insurance on my trailer had lapsed for almost two years. we have our liability through the state which is not optional but our comprehensive fire theft and so on through a private company. When we renewed our insurance the liability didn't go through but the comprehensive did. The truck was fine both were coming out. The cop was really good about it and was pretty certain we were telling the truth since the annual cost of the Liability was $57.00. We just stayed in the parking lot until morning and a quick phone call later we were on the road. He wasn't a traffic cop and let us know the traffic guys were doing a blitz that weekend. Sure enough on the way out of town there was a line up of cars pulled over.

    If I ever went on courtroom TV, my goal would be to say as little as possible. In a case like this, I'd have an impartial witness, and the defendant had no insurance and an attitude. I have absolutely faith that Judge Judy can take care of her courtroom, and my smile would get a little bigger every time the defendant shouted out. I'd have a front row seat to a person digging their own grave.

    Random witnesses have the most reliable testimonies. They don’t know either of the two parties. There is no reason for them to lie about what happened. Most people who witness an accident, drive on by and don’t want to be involved. If someone who is impartial and isn’t benefiting from the outcome, takes the time out of their day to testify in a case, they are most likely telling the truth.
