@michaelu.5321 is the only thing to get, tn barely exists anymore and it's more expensive than ips. it sucks. I prefer tn. I don't look at my monitor from the side
VA also has much better contrast, black doesn't look grey. They mainly suffer from ghosting at higher hz but some of them don't. I got a 240hz one and was pleasantly surprised by the color accuracy, contrast and input delay with virtually no ghosting.
I recently got my AOC 155hz QHD with a VA panel and i cana barely see any ghosting, only time i see it is when i focus on the ghosting and even then im not sure is it ghosting or my eyes are hallucinating
@wearefromserbia9714 dude, it's ghosting. I tested a lot of monitors in stores and AOC fights va ghosting effectively only at 240hz and close to max response overclock. But at that point, you're fighting rgb overshoot instead of ghosting, and that colour pop is noticeable when you know how it's supposed to look. It's not on AOC, acers, asus and others, what have you, had the same issue at 1440p monitor segment, except samsung g7, but that one was priced as 4k 144hz at the time, and it still has its own issues. Some, like Philips, had good VA monitors at 1080p 240hz where you forget about ghosting and overshoot, but at 1440p and 4k they fail because the pixel count is way higher, it takes more time to get more pixels to reflect input, that's a given, and the panels are slower on top, because 240hz and above at higher resolutions is a completely different price point. Cheap VAs are not the simple answer, there are more colors than just black, you have to compare color gamut, color accuracy, that's dynamic contrast, and at that VA doesn't have an advantage over IPS like the internet tries to mislead, IPS panels are simply quicker to respond accordingly to rapidly changing image, which is why they don't suffer from ghosting and have better color accuracy at lower refresh rates.
Same, just got a VA 165hz 1440p monitor and its got way better colors than my old TN one. It does have some ghosting but is mainly just in very dark areas of a game and it's not that bad, you get used to it quite fast. Would totally recommend it for someone looking for a cheap great monitor.

Mini LED is the best balance of price and OLED like performance. Plus, you can get way better brightness levels than OLED. I have a Samsung G9 Neo and I couldn’t imagine using anything else
MiniLED is backlighting technology for LCDs. The Samsung Neo G9 uses a VA panel with MiniLED backlighting, MiniLED isn't a panel type. While contrast can be quite good with it, it's not like OLED. The Neo G9 has a ~15,000:1 contrast ratio, vs the 1,000,000:1 many OLED displays sport. Also usually slower than LCDs due to the backlight, unlike blazing fast OLEDs. MicroLED is at the moment the only true OLED competitor in image quality. And those cost way more than even OLEDs.
i was super into computors as a kid but could never get into it because i was poor. then i worked hard for years and now im finally in a position where i can build an average gaming pc only to find out that all my knowledge is so out of date now that i have to re learn EVERY thing. last time i built a pc we still had crt monitors.
I just bought a 27 inch FHD LCD IPS 100Hz HP monitor with 5ms response time, and flicker free, anti-reflective diaplay, for 150 $. The only thing is that it doesn't have height adjustment option. It only has tilt adjustment.
I remember that in the 2000s, PCs and laptops came with glossy monitors. I really like glossy monitors, but they are hard to find today. Most of them have that matte finish.
Yep I got the DCS bug about a year ago. I can't stand to think about how much money I spent just to get the best possible experience out of DCS. R7 7950x, RTX 4090, 64 gigs DDR5 5200, and a 32 in curved 4k OLED Alienware monitor. It looks fantastic
I got the PG32UCDM OLED a couple of months ago, and he's not wrong; I can't stand to use non OLED monitors now. It is so amazing. It was $1,300 though...
id say an ips panel at an amazing refresh with some quality settings in the monitor that actually let you tweak like crazy. cant get better than that besides oled.
I bought a VA panel for 800 eur in 2018. I was used to using my TV for gaming before so I wanted a big monitor. I wanted at least 32 inch. Ended up with LG 32 inch 1440p 144hz monitor. Still use it daily for gaming, browing and movies. I use a 27 inch CRT iiyama from 2003 @80hz as a second monitor for 4:3 movies and games
I prefer VA personally. The VA monitor I have doesn't seem to have bad ghosting that others complain about but the two IPS monitors I have both have IPS glow which really bothers me
I’ve stuck with triple ips because of the color price and angles. It’s not the fastest response but at 1ms. I’m not complaining. It’s good enough for the games I play and my work flow.
As a VA qled (fv43u) owner I should say there is a lot of ghosting, you can minimize it if you know how you should set your settings. And main point you need to keep your fps a at least maximum refresh rate of your monitor and keep your brightness lower than maximum (which is good for your eyes because this shit is burning your eyes above 50%). Also you can almost eliminate it if you use bfi. But I should also say I used several ips monitors and none of them is a match with the color accuracy, black level, contrast. If you have enough money just buy an oled and you will get best of both worlds, except if you are a software developer.
I got a superb deal at Acer 180hz IPS Pannel just at 105$ I didn't think a second and just bought it I'm using it currently and working finely at it's best , didn't regret about it
I actually have a 4K mini-LED monitor, which is basically what happens when you try to make an IPS monitor function like an OLED. You get the same incredible blacks as an OLED along with a brighter display, but you can often get a ghosting effect because of how the mini-LEDs can't turn off the screen pixel by pixel the way an OLED can. It does so in "zones". I personally love it, though an OLED at the same size and resolution as my monitor would be objectively better for picture quality. It cost me way less money though.
When i saw the $1300 34" LG 1440p Ultragear Ultrawide on sale for $600, i absolutely had to cop and honestly im never going back. Probably upgrading my regular 4K for a 4K OLER.
I´m using the "Aryond a32 1.3", it´s a 2k VA panel with 165hz. As already stated in the comments, VA can suffer from ghosting, mine does but I actually don´t see it. Ghosting only appears for me when I test it with a website or something else, so I play a lot of games and favor the color accuracy way more, so I chose the VA panel instead of IPS and TN. If I would be playing Overwatch or Counter strike with 240+ FPS strong CPU and GPU, I would definitely choose a high grade TN panel.
So I recently got a pc and what I went from was using a 2016 iMac to a good pc with a 3060 ti and most importantly the built In Monitor for the iMac to a Samsung Odyesey OLED G8 and the difference is night and day parents still refuse to from iMac when we have WiFi 7E lol
Hopefully OLED monitors will be cheaper. I'm using an IPS 1440p 170hz monitor and i'm really happy with this balanced experience, bought it for around $170 too (Viewsonic VX2780).
also forgot to mention that va tn and ips all lie in the same category of lcd with backlight and oled doesn't have a backlight because every pixel illuminates itself, which means it can be turned off when others are still lit, which is what allows for the deeper darks and more contrasting colors
The other down side for OLED: I use the same multi monitor setup for gaming and work from home. Current OLED monitor sub pixel arrangements result in less sharp text than the other options. And burn in is much more likely when you have static windows elements on screen 40 hours a week.
I personally use a VA monitor, because it looks pretty close to IPS and a lot better than TN, while a 1440p VA costs around the same as a 1080p IPS with the same framerate.
I have’t changed my TN panels in 10 years. Speed is everything if you are going to play competitive games and when I bought them, I was too into fighting games. Nothing I saw on other displays convinced me on replacing them. I still wouldn’t replace them but my PC is way too good for what my monitors are so I’ll be buying an Oled display during this year or the next.
I like OLED but the stuff like burning is still a problem even if they say they have fixed it or they have created a solution for it it’s still a problem because a heat sink isn’t enough even OLED smart TVs get burned but if you want a good monitor, you need to do some sacrifices like buying a new monitor every 5th year if you’re not very careful with your monitor and just using the brightest option
Which really means that....unless you're playing something where it's competitive and extremely fast paced, choose the one that looks best to you and fits your budget because most of the other stuff you will never notice.
He's right, I got lucky when I opened up my google feed a week before black friday and came across a deal for the MSI MAG 271,. Snagged it for 500 😊 OLED is a different level. And I've always wanted it since LG came out with it back in 2010
as far as i heard IPS with mini led backlight will be better than OLED. In terms of color rendering there is no difference, but IPS burns out much slower
As a gamer I picked a VA monitor, i dont play fast games, and i value contrast ratio over blur and speed. It really is up to the user to decide. But OLED is the way to go if you can afford it
I have an IPS for my main monitor, I'm considering getting a small VA panel for a new secondary. I have an ancient LED DVI-D panel, which still looks pretty good especially considering the age, but gaming on it is nauseating.
Probably 2018ish I got an Acer ED320QR for like $120 at Walmart for black friday. It's VA and it still works great! The plastic power button cap broke off but I can still hit the button on the PCB inside, just a little harder to reach For those who don't want to look up the specs: 32" 1080p (not the best, but for the price it was an amazing deal) 165hz refresh rate AMD freesync 1ms response bought for $120, on amazon its like $160 (at the time i bought it at walmart i think it was like $200?)
I have the Samsung odyssey G8 ultrawide and it's amazing. Finally got a 4080 super(had a 1080ti) and i can finally run it at its full potential max resolution and 175hz
I recommend VA almost always, most people are not gaming to a level that matters but even then, you have VA's getting over 200hz. With great color recreation. But more important is... actually calibrate your monitor.

Mini LED is the best balance of price and OLED like performance. Plus, you can get way better brightness levels than OLED. I have a Samsung G9 Neo and I couldn’t imagine using anything else
Mini led gang rise up!!! I won two, one for each city I am in frequently. It's so good
MiniLED is backlighting technology for LCDs.
Why would l want more brightness when that shit just burns my eyes, 50% on any monitor is good enough for me😂
@@toxicturkeyy I own a KTC M27T20 which advertises 1mil to 1 contrast in HDR mode so idk. Either way, way better than regular IPS lol
@@boolaidman471 fair, I keep my mini led at 75% or so. 100% hurts my eyes XD
i was super into computors as a kid but could never get into it because i was poor. then i worked hard for years and now im finally in a position where i can build an average gaming pc only to find out that all my knowledge is so out of date now that i have to re learn EVERY thing. last time i built a pc we still had crt monitors.
Ive had an IPS 2k 60hz 27 for like 8 years and I love it. I definitely don't notice any latency or anything like that and love the quality of picture
Not me picking oled for my first pc
I hope that pc runs well with it😂
@@godpop it does not only is it oled but 2k 240 hz
@@TCM573 price?
@@godpop 660$
@@TCM573 sheesh not bad brother, that's a steal
Yes it is, IPS always,. Not hard to answer.
OLED the GOAT
It is, but money...
CRT >
What about LCD, LED, and MicroLED?
glad to see lost in space again in that one clip
You can get a 1440p 240hz OLED for $399 around holiday sales
id say an ips panel at an amazing refresh with some quality settings in the monitor that actually let you tweak like crazy. cant get better than that besides oled.
VA also has darker blacks. Not as perfect as OLED, but way better than IPS and TN.
They often smear grays though.
Lots of high refresh rate budget ips monitors in the market now, so its best to choose them
I have an IPS and it looks great but at the end of the day we're talking pixels and frames so it doesn't really matter too much.
most curved monitors are VA as well, whereas flat panels are usually IPS or TN
I bought a VA panel for 800 eur in 2018. I was used to using my TV for gaming before so I wanted a big monitor.
I wanted at least 32 inch. Ended up with LG 32 inch 1440p 144hz monitor. Still use it daily for gaming, browing and movies.
I use a 27 inch CRT iiyama from 2003 @80hz as a second monitor for 4:3 movies and games
Rocking a VA.
Smearing and ghosting shadows. Brightened up Gamma for that.
Get IPS instead, i would say. No snearing/tailing in shadows
Well put out... Glad I ran into this before I build mine
I prefer VA personally. The VA monitor I have doesn't seem to have bad ghosting that others complain about but the two IPS monitors I have both have IPS glow which really bothers me
Ive had oled phones for 10 years. I have no trouble switching back to ips screens on other devices. Its all about being able to adapt
VA has the best black level and contrast except some OLED)
I got a superb deal at
Acer 180hz IPS Pannel just at 105$
I didn't think a second and just bought it
I'm using it currently and working finely at it's best , didn't regret about it
I really do love channel, came here for pc build tips and stayed for knowledge.
Still using og dads 2 crt monitors, I compare them with new ips and color is like 3x saturate but not like acid
I went OLED when a good one was on sale....the other three really don't compare at all.
If your budget allows it, it's a must.
VA motion tiering is insane. This is why I buy TN
I would recommend waiting on the next gen or the gen after than of oled panels. For now just get an ips monitor.
I’m with OLED and I approve your message at the end 😂
we need a long form vid for this
Probably 2018ish I got an Acer ED320QR for like $120 at Walmart for black friday. It's VA and it still works great! The plastic power button cap broke off but I can still hit the button on the PCB inside, just a little harder to reach
For those who don't want to look up the specs:
32"
1080p (not the best, but for the price it was an amazing deal)
165hz refresh rate
AMD freesync
1ms response
bought for $120, on amazon its like $160 (at the time i bought it at walmart i think it was like $200?)
I will say, I worked hard to afford that oled. It's really nice and I try to care for it very carefully.
Building my first pc and thanks to the sales I was able to stay under budget and get a 27in 1440p 240hz OLED.
From all the crappy shorts in TH-cam I get everyday, this one was amazing, actually. Pretty well explained.
I tried MANY VA panels and none of them was enjoyable due to ghosting! Then switched to a good IPS panel display and had no issues anymore.
What price is considered a high end ips monitor?
Can’t do anything TN or VA. The black smearing drives me absolutely insane. I wish they made a 1080p OLED. I want my crazy fps but perty colors too 😢
I have the Samsung odyssey G8 ultrawide and it's amazing.
