Jason Christiaans you can feel the passion put into the From Soft themes - always matching the boss you fight and adds a ton of atmosphere to it, something lots of other games imo kinda doesn't manage to catch quite as well.
The music yes, but the boss itself isn't what we hoped for. Just an NPC and a crappy generic boss. I mean really, at least Dark Souls 2 TRIED to add its own content to the series, which it succeeded! How the mighty have fallen. And don't get me started on Priscilla + Gehrman, as that fight was repetitive as hell.
You know what would have been cool? If the phase two triggered after killing the Gravetender and, when the wolf comes in, he just climbs up on its back to start attacking you in tandem with the wolf. Kinda like a reverse of the Nameless King fight where you fight the guy's mount before you fight the main boss himself. Although, if they went with that then they'd need to shrink the great wolf a bit. Otherwise, it'd look just comical seeing a person riding a wolf that makes them look like an ant in comparison. XD
Seriously, though, this boss is aesthetically the worst! It’s just some pantsless ninny with Chain Armour & a Darkwraith Mask, complete with a giant wolf that might as well be a cross between Sif & Vordt.
such a shitty ganky boss fight but the visuals like the giant dog speeding towards you while kicking up the snow and the ost are just incredible. i’ve got mixed feelings on this one
@@aurelianxcbd Rat Authority is probably the second worst fight in the entire series. The worst goes to Rat Vanguard (unless you count Chalice """"Bosses"""")

One boss I'm NEVER fighting again. Beat him once, got his weapon, loved the fight, that's all I need. Any other playthroughs, I'm leaving the champion gravetender to watch over his grave peacefully and I'm gonna think the Greatwolf is Sif's distant cousin from a far away land and just leave him be.
Even as a quality melee user, it was a giant pain in the ass. Especially bad if you've got a larger weapon, the wolf won't stand still long enough for you to get a hit, even when it looks like a punishable moment.
I feel like phase3(wolf red eyes) should have had more moves up his sleeves. when u really pay attention the only moves he's got is that charge attack and ice breath attack(which gets predictable overtime) They should make it feel like your going against an aggressive ass beast like the pontiff alligator wolves but 2x better. I want to see alot of biting attacks, a pounce attack, a chewing mouth grab that kills almost all health, actually I really wanted to see phase 3 activate as soon as you kill the gravetender champion, so it feels like the wolf's phase is activated through murderous intent. If they wouldve done all this I probably would still be stuck on it rn lol
This boss is retarded as it is. When a boss is so hard to kill, and when ive tried hours to beat it but failed just takes the fun away. The boss should be killable not fucking immortal
I'm playing dex build and needed 4 tries for that boss. Take your time in the beginning and kill the wolfes if you see a chance to do so. Of course you want to kill them before the large wolf appears. At 50%, try to get the gravetender as low as you can (maybe even two-handed) before the wolf gets close to you. Also a good thing you can do is backstabbing him, when he gets below 50%. I got him to about 20% that way, before the wolf got close and then somehow seperated them both and handeled it to took the guy out with a two-handed combo. The rest of the fight 1v1 against the wolf is pretty easy. if you killed the first huge wolf right at the beginnig of the dlc, than this guy is not so difficult. Just take care that you don't get backstabbed yourself, as that pretty much kills you in one hit. The hardest thing at the fight is to always have an overview about where both of them are and what they're doing. Thats why you want to get rid of the gravetender as fast as possible.
My favorite thing about this boss, is when he vomits up a cold snap. The Bass and complete HD sound shakes my home speakers. From did a perfect job applying the intensity of this boss.
There would be... if the Gravetender wasn't a pushover and was less of a player sized character. And/or, if they made him a little bit bigger to give that feeling of power and had him not be affected by the same poise BS that the player has to deal with. Then maybe, just maybe he could have had that vibe to him.
I think it would have been better if they made the actual grave tender more exciting to fight. I also think the wolf should be less agressive when the grave tender is still alive. Other than that, i think it was a cool fight
You fight Duo Gravetender with Hammer, you are amazing and brave. Whereas the hammer has a slow moveset, inversely proportional to the rapid and deadly Gravetender Greatwolf movement, usually a greatwolf run when you swing your weapon and run at supersonic speed towards you that can kill you and it's hard to avoid
Music is great, wolf is fuc!#@&$ great, I don't care if some people like it or not, for me that fight is really really good. Did I say that music is beautiful?
I'm sure, for most people (Certainly me), the Gravetender is a glorified Hostile NPC. It's the wolf that's a real pain in the ass, because it's almost impossible to tell what attack it's going to use. I've had it charge me when it was inches from my face and I was preparing for a nip. I've even had it attack, think I could punish it with an attack, it actually jumped back and charged me before my attack animation was even over. Nearly caused me to lose my own sanity before I finally beat the damn thing.
Wow, I wish the wolf was that fucking calm when I fight him. He acts like the fucking Flash when he's against me lol Not to mention he's got help from the game's unkillable boss: the shitty fucking camera.

I first did this DLC in NG+6 at SL320. I died, a lot. Then I found a bug that made it hella easy to cheese the fight. Using the Onislayer bow (because range), poke one of the doggos from atop the ledge. Fight begins with you on the outside. Proceed to barf Toxin all over the 3 doggos and the Gravekeeper, rinse and repeat until the gravekeeper is dead. Big doggo wont jump down until you enter the arena, so you will have to fight that section. But this will let you save some precious Estus for that last bit.
My knight-mage build was so bad for this. I had to parry this guy and shield break tf out of him just to do decent dmg and save my spells for the wolf lmao
The intended implication due to the prior mention of it being a wolf is that the wolf is like a dragon, breathing literal and metaphorical death, gnashing teeth, swiping claws and darting with superb and vicious speed. The idea therefore is that by comparison to other dragon bosses and wolf bosses this wolf is the best of both.
Wear all the thorn armor, use Dorhy's Gnaw, sit back and enjoy the bloodbath. For good measure, I flame infuse the barbed straight sword for a little variety in my attacks. 7-8 hits tops for both the chap and wolf. No idea why you would grind out the fight like in this video.
