Not a bowtie banjo. That refers to the inlay pattern which resembles bowties; this banjo has dot inlays. This banjo is a Gibson RB-100 which has the brass hoop instead of a tone ring and they sound fantastic.
I have one. 1954 to 57 year approximately. I’ve always been told the headstock being shaped like the bow tie (similar to the J200, Les Paul, etc.). I’ll do some more research. Thanks!
