    It’s a geopolitically neutral aircraft. There are really only a few options to buy fighter jets, mainly the US, or Russia (I know there are others, but those are the two main players in the industry) the Rafale is a very capable aircraft, sure there are more stealthy and more capable aircraft, but it is a good way to remain out of the way of the USA V Russia air war while still having a good jet.
    Also with buying jets from France there are way less strings attached, than other countries would have.

      Stealth ? 😂No use against a Rafale today. The Rafale features the new RBE2 active antenna radar, which is capable of tracking multiple targets simultaneously, as well as the Forward Infrared Detection System (IRST), which can detect infrared emissions from aircraft. These combined capabilities improve the Rafale's ability to detect various types of aircraft and including detecting stealth aircraft.
      And if we add to that part of its weaponry such as missiles Meteor: Long-range air-to-air missile, designed for air superiority and known to be undoubtedly the most effective and devastating. Close air combat, distant air combat, ground attack including with nuclear weapons, electronic warfare, intelligence ....capable of accomplishing different missions simultaneously on the same flight plan with exemplary reliability, this makes the Rafale one of the best aircraft if not the best all categories today.

      @@ljm9359 2 Rafale head towards eachother one has a new stealth coating ( freshly applied ) the other has been a bit weathered. One aircraft is ' Stealthier ' than the identical twin piloting the other plane, it gets defeated. Stealth always matters or Dassault would not add it to the equation.
      The swing role ability is common to many modern aircraft it just depends what you have under the wing you might have some glide bombs , missiles etc but unlikely to have an Exocet and a nuke. Simply doesn't happen.
      Perhaps the RBE2 is great but it is small and size matters or even a Repositioner for a crafty look around would help. Nothing is perfect and Restricted information rather than myth and magic is the reality
      Nothing wrong with Patriotic thoughts.

      @ljm9359 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@NATObait Yes, stealth coating is certainly useful for reducing the radar signature of an aircraft, but it does not make a device completely undetectable. Stealth also depends on the shape of the aircraft, thermal management and the tactics used by the pilots. The Rafale is not designed as a stealth aircraft in the strict sense (like the F-35), but its stealth is optimized by multi-faceted measures, not just cladding.
      To say that it is "unlikely" to have an Exocet missile and a nuclear weapon under the same wings is not the point. Although these two missions are indeed different (anti-ship and nuclear deterrence), the versatility of the Rafale lies precisely in being able to adapt quickly to different scenarios by modifying its armament. This is the advantage of the "swing-role": a single aircraft can fulfill several missions without having to be specialized, unlike many aircraft of previous generations.
      Regarding the RBE2, its size is certainly a factor, but not the only determining factor. The Rafale's RBE2 active antenna (AESA) radar is renowned for its reliability, its multiple detection and tracking capability, and its electronic agility. In modern air combat, a smaller but better optimized radar can outperform a larger radar through better signal management and integration with other sensors (SPECTRA, optronic systems, for example)
      All of these are not a “myth”. There have been numerous tests and feedback from operations (Libya, Syria, etc.) which show that the Rafale’s capabilities are proven in the field. Nations like Egypt, India and the United Arab Emirates did not choose this aircraft for the "myth", but for its concrete performance.
      Best regards.

      @@ljm9359 All aircraft are not perfect, only on the day do they have an advantage. As for Libya it was on Day 11 before Rafale found a radar site to hit ( Tomahawks removed most ) and flying around undetected was done with Gripen doing the Recon . The ' Swing Roll ' function is standard today but lacking is Ground Moving ability on Rafale and 2 way Data Link on F4 .

    • @ljm9359
      @ljm9359 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@NATObait It is true that the initial strikes, notably with Tomahawk cruise missiles, destroyed a large part of Libyan air defenses. But the Rafale played a crucial role from the start of Operation “Harmattan”. From March 19, the first day of the strikes, the Rafales carried out reconnaissance, air superiority and precision strike missions.
      The Gripen is a high-performance aircraft with excellent reconnaissance capabilities. However, the Rafale has also demonstrated skills in this area, particularly thanks to its sensors such as the OSF and its AESA RBE2 radar. It should be noted that the Rafale carried out missions without requiring support from the Gripen, it also had the opportunity to act autonomously to collect, process and share information in real time.
      Concerning ground movement capability (GMTI) The Rafale can be equipped with the TALIOS (Targeting Long-range Identification Optronic System) designation pod, which offers advanced reconnaissance, targeting and surveillance capabilities. This pod makes it possible to identify, track and designate moving targets on the ground, even at long distances. Its optronic sensors offers infrared and electro-optical vision to detect all kinds of vehicles or moving objects.
      As for the two-way data link, you know as I do that the F4 standard will be fully operational around 2025 and it will incorporate significant improvements in terms of connectivity and data fusion.
      But you are right, we can always improve but perfection is difficult to achieve in the real world as Aristotle said

    The document is interesting but the prices concerning the Rafale and the F 35 are absolutely wrong...
    The Rafale, despite a number produced much lower than its American competitor, has an average price (average of the three versions B, C, or M) of 74 million euros, or 81 million dollars. Several serious sources give these figures. The F35 was since the beginning more expensive than the Rafale, but soon, thanks to its mass production, it should fall at a price equivalent to the Dassault model.

      Several trend coming to fighter fleet. Gallium nitrites radars, passive airborne radar, multistatic detection, quantum airborne and ground based radar are the biggest challenges to stealth, at least in it’s current form. Combine this with IRST and TV, the increase of computing power and the pace at which thèse technologies go from prototype to deployment and you have the framework that lead to stealth obsolescence in 2030. Will see is active stealth holds it’s promises. But the technological path seem to lead to a dead end.
      By the way, this is fully taken into account by USA, with the mitridatiaation of the US Air Force, going full speed ahead to millions of flying assets instead of hundreds. Same thing for Iran, China, France, Turkey, UK, Saudi Arabia, EAU, India and China. The goal is to reach security in numbers. I think this trend is the real one. Armenia, Ukraine, Israel battlefield all show it correct. Stealth is used almost nowhere. What seem to be important is the control of the electro magnetic spectrum. The pace at which technology evolve i this areas is by far more impactful on the battlefield than stealth.

    The Rafale is not 2x the price of an F35 that's an oversight on your part. The problem is that many fighter contracts contain all the additional parts, equipment and weapons which can easily multiply overall cost to 2 or 2.5 times. The shown cost of an F35 also does not take into account that the F35 needs its own completely integrate fighter support complex which adds to the cost over other designs. Also the fighter is very logistically expensive as it has complex components and stealth material which needs extensive maintenance. The Rafale is roughly the same price for a single airframe at 100 to 120 million (usually 115) USD per aircraft but concurrent cost is lower and availability of the airframe is higher so you need fewer planes to retain the same level of readiness.

    euuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh where do you get this price of more than $230 million???? The Rafale C costs 68 million euros, about the same in US dollars! and the Eurofighter costs twice its price! This comment is absurd! unless you have divided the purchase price of a country by the number of planes, but it doesn't work like that, in a sale price, there is the training of pilots, mechanics, integration as for example in India, this country asked Dassault to integrate Indian weapons!! the Dassault warranty, and very often spare parts, and often weapons such as the MICA IR or EM, which is perfectly integrated into the Rafale, the MICA serving as an advanced sensor by sending information about what is in front of the MICA !! in this case, why minimize the price of the F35, since 1996, LM has built around 1000 F35s for a total cost of $1600 billion, if we divide this sum by the number of aircraft, because research and development is not are not making a loss, the manufacturer recovers these billions by integrating them into the selling price, and if we divide 1,600,000,000,000 / 1000 F35 = each F35 will have cost $1.6 billion!! if LM manufactures 2000, that will still be 800 million per F35, 4000 = 400 million per F35 etc, etc. ..............for 8000 F35, that will be $200 million per F35, but provided that 7000 F35 does not cost one $, let's admit 7000 x 100 million $ per F35 = 700,000,000,000 $ + 1,600,000,000,000 = 2,300,000,000,000 $ for 8000 F35 if the USA sells at a loss, it’s to crush the competition!! but hey, an F35 is a pile of scrap metal and the SU35 or SU 57 are no better because they are obsolete!! you have to compare what is comparable, the Rafale is a Formula 1, the F35 is a flying cauldron whose only advantage is its stealth, the worst, it only works against high frequency radars, but there are many other radars that don't care about the passive stealth of the F35!!

Countries like Norway who have money to burn are few and far between so expect a wide price from a domestic purchase to an export cost also a profit is desirable by the manufacturer.
    This price point is the same for all similar aircraft.

    Could it be Rafale comes with extras like ;
    1. It's ITAR FREE ( and you can't buy F35 ).
    2. France give you a loan
    3. Eurofighter has a flip flop partner in Germany who would veto you for not having a vegan breakfast.
    4. France is a loyal supplier.
    Or hopefully Rafale is simply a good fit?

      Super Hornet is Omnirole then also as it can even fold it's wings and has a 2 seat carrier version the Growler. Perhaps the ' Omnirole ' title is just a marketing ploy as neither can land on water like a Catalina flying boat.
