Dyson DC 41 Animal fix for too hard to push

  • If your Dyson DC 41 suddenly becomes too hard to push, it may be due to the loss of a roller on the front of the base plate. Today you can buy a replacement roller (not available when I filmed this - but may break again) or spend a few dollars using the fix in this video. The super sliders shown in the video can be found on Amazon.com at this link - amzn.to/2S0LvNB

Just came across this in 2023. Thank you! This really worked on my vac. As another person said, you are my hero today!

Thanks, man! I just used your technique to fix two vacuum cleaners. Saved me big bucks. Thanks again.

I just got off the phone with Dyson and the fix is easy. Remove the skinny gasket going around the beater bar, poke a hole in the soft gasket in plate. Story goes Dyson had to bring over the engineers from UK to figure it out and they noticed American carpeting had LOTS of padding, etc., unlike in UK. So... that’s the story according to the tech at Dyson

Thank you, thank you, thank you! for this BRILLIANT idea!! We purchased new carpet in the last couple weeks and to my horror I couldn't push my vacuum on it! I can happily confirm that this works beautifully with my Dyson DC33!!!

I replaced the wheel and it still did not fix it. I ordered the super sliders online and installed as you have shown and it works great. Thanks for saving me time and money.

This worked perfectly! Our Dyson is new and we still have our wheel. But we had 1 rug that we couldn't even vacuum because the suction was too strong! The slider is amazing! Thank you so much!

You are my hero today, Dave! I knew in the back of my head I had somehow damaged my Dyson, because it worked fine, then all of a sudden didn't on the same hardwood floors (the ones with a solid surface beneath). Still, I continued to try to use it, or used the handheld wand for the floors where it wouldn't work. I finally decided there has to be a fix so I Googled and found you first off. I didn't even have to work at trying several other suggestions first.....I turned my vacuum over and sure enough the ball was missing! I used the soft side of a velcro strip since I didn't have the sliders readily available and it works great. I am going to get some sliders, though, because the velcro is a little slim. Think the thicker slider may work even better. Thank you for posting this video!!! You made my day!!

Thank you. We installed new carpet and our Dyson DC 41 animal is almost impossible to push. I changed all filters and it still did not work and the motor almost overheated. Thank you for the great fix and the wonderful video you made to help so many people. I called the carpet company and all they said is that they do not recommend that I use a Dyson on my new carpet but would not tell me what type of vacuum I should get or what features I should look for. Thank you for sharing and caring about others.

Guinea Pig Dysons are not recommended for the newer plush/thick carpets, you need a vacuum with adjustable suction and/or carpet height adjustments, the reason why Dysons are hard to push on the newer carpets is because the suction is so strong and the cleaner head is designed to make a complete seal with the floor, and there is no way to adjust the suction or height

I had the wheels, but dried dirt clogged the needed holes that held the sweeper to the floor/carpet due to too much suction! Works perfectly again! Thanks for all the comments!!

I had the wheel break and the rubber come off it. I bought a new entire assembly but also your sliders. Tried the sliders 1st.... So amazed at how smooth and easy my DC41 moves now especially on tile and hardwood (unsure on longevity tho). Haven't even used the assembly. Thanks a lot. Thumbs up.

Might also be worth checking whether you have all the rollers in place on the sole-plate. We had lost the front two rollers (probably knocked off by knocking into something hard), which created a vacuum as we used it. Replacing the sole-plate resolved the problem to return it to factory settings.

Thank you SO much!!! That's exactly what happened to my Dyson. I'm pretty bummed out about the quality of this Dyson. I don't think I'll ever purchase another Dyson. This is my second Dyson, and it seems like the DC41 is more flimsy than my first model. My attachment hose also ripped after 6 months, which Dyson was kind enough to replace. Anyhow, thanks again Dave!

I hate the new Dyson POS. Spend $550-$650 on it and it clogs all the time and the brush doesn't move. Requires way too much maintenance. Moving I'm going to try out the Shark next time. This vacuum is a POS.

If you put the slider where the wheel is missing the seal plate will float like normal and the brush bar will be supported.

A better solution is to remove the black sealing gasket installed on the top part of the cleaner head. Removing the gasket creates a small gap between the top and the bottom parts of the cleaner head, sufficient to allow some air to pass through and to prevent the cleaner head to get stuck on the carpet. This also allows a free movement of the bottom part of the cleaner head so it will operate without restrictions, as originally intended. This seems to be an over-engineering error from Dyson that created a perfect vacuum chamber on the cleaner head, instead of a working vacuum cleaner.

They do make a wheel and axil for this... however mine is so worn down that it wont support the wheel and axil. I am going to try what you did-thanks!

    • @MsCooker8

There is no wheel & axle replacement for this area. The thinner wheels further up are the only ones they sell. I bought them & they are too thin for this repair.

Should not have to do anything but keep the beater bar clean. $500 and I have either spend more to repair it or rig it up. I have had this for less than 3 months. Just not right. This is my first dyson experience with any of their products. This will be my last. Thank you for the tip. I will probably use your tip.

That's why Smart Strand can be a stupid investment unless you do your homework. Wet cleaning will also be a surprise. You'll find that it doesn't extract well and takes a lot longer to dry. Mildew can be an issue if you don't really make a lot of extra dry extraction passes with your hot water extractor. Make sure you set air movers everywhere you clean.

Excellent solution .... love it. Does it help or hurt wood floors? My dyson will not move on wood floor.

    • @ez-tllc80
      @ez-tllc80 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think the super slider will hurt wood floors - it's plastic. But you could also look for a self adhesive felt pad like you would put on a chair. That may do the trick for wood floors.

Do you know how to remove the grey plate so I can get to the brushes to cut off all of the hair?
All of the other TH-cam videos don't show this particular head sassy. It has a bellows that keeps me from removing it.
The two twist knobs don't even seem to line up with anything and seem useless.

@@davewhitten9755 Thank you. Yeah...I finally got the plate to come off. It was stuck and because it didn't separate from the head as easily as all the videos I watched, I figured I was doing it wrong.
Turns out I needed to pry the two pieces apart as I twisted the knobs.
Thank you so much for answering so quickly.
