Ariel Rider Grizzly with dual battery/dual motor that does ~36mph and goes ~36 miles on full throttle and both motors. Crazy e-bike and I love it. If police pull you over, just switch it to front motor only and it's magically a bicycle again

Thanks for this review! As a DIY ebiker with 2 home made packs (both 52v with BMS's), I think I may have had a similar episode where one of my packs suddenly stopped giving power (but had small residual power to keep LED on. I think it came when I also disconnected both, one or the other battery on. I think when I turned on one battery that had a slightly higher charged voltage (57volts) than the second pack I turned on (55 volts) in parallel with the first, that sequence seems to have caused the second pack to shut down. I disconnected the 2nd pack for about an hour and it came back on by itself. I don't know for sure, but I think when the 2nd pack 55v charge got parallel connected with a pack with higher 57v charge, may have caused a backward voltage pressure in the second pack causing its BMS to shut off the pack (maybe the BMS "thought" that since its voltage pressure momentarily dropped, the BMS "thought the battery was "dead" and thus shut it down??? Nowadays, I check the voltages of both packs BEFORE I connect them both and choose the pack with lower voltage to connect first, then parallel connect (in your case just turn of the battery) the other pack with slightly higher voltage. This seems to solves what you (and I) went through (one pack simply goes dead shortly after you turn it on.) I guess, if that doesn't work, try the reverse sequence, or simply try your best to charge both packs to exactly the same voltage before using them together??? I dunno - maybe contact Ariel if they have any ideas?

Hey Raymond Wong, I was wondering if you NEED assistance pedaling, because if you in fact dont, then you shouldnt be on one. Along with putting trump in the White House, these are a stupid effing idea, at least for people who dont need pedal assistance. Lazy people are the biggest consumers of ebikes. Now all the lazy pukes wanna push an agenda to be able to ride on trails, effing idiots. If that happens, those who actually put the work in to ride should push an agenda to shoot any individual on an ebike. Lets face it, those who need pedal assistance wont head to the trails because theyre actually smart enough to know they dont belong on trails to begin with.

Yes, you can ride it off road but if both tires are not on the ground at the same time providing traction, the bike will not utilize all that extra power. And as anyone knows who has encountered large rocks on an incline, the front wheel has a tendency to pop up off the ground frequently. This results in a loss of important traction and loss of momentum. So as long as you can keep both wheels grounded the Grizzly should perform well.

I just shot some videos on mine and already have a 1000 watt front hub motor to be installed on my ebike to make it dual drive..I will have dual drive--dual controllers and dual batteries.Plus the 1000 has a higher amp controller and a 48v 20 ah battery.I went on some decently steep offroad areas on mine and posted vids--and this is just with th rear hub--you can literally go anywhere you can walk--but at 20 mph.I ride on sidewalks also and just take it easy if near people.there is no way I am riding on any road above 30 mph with no bike lane trying to stay in an 8 inch area so i do not get sidescraped.Plus with an ebike--you can always just go in the dirt or area next to a sidewalk.

Someone else did a test of an Ariel Grizzly going up a hill. With one only one motor, it barely made it up a long steep hill in Atlanta, With two motors it was going 21mph at the top of the hill. Considering 746 watts equals 1 hp, with two motors you have about 2.7hp continuous total. If you go for "peak torque" which they say equals almost 3000 watts (total) then you are at about 4.0hp. I think you need 5 hp to get a license plate(and pay insurance, registration, etc). So the ebike is about the best you can do without the license plate , registration, etc.. Good enough for most commutes.

@KonaGaming I call scooters like VESPA SPRINT 150 a motorbike. I call ebike's like in this video or the Lectric XP a motorbike. I call motorcycles like Ninja 400 motorbikes too. I don't however call push bikes/regular bicycles motorbikes because they don't have motors to assist or do all the work. Some people lump bicycles and motorcycles together because the name rhymes. I think they got worse outlook than me. But I guess it's all personal preference. What a motorbike is to me, is not to others. No problem.

1:55 right here... I was pulled over once... early 90s maybe 89... my friends and I are are side by side riding no handed down the prairie path in the Chicago western burbs. We see the cop on the side street moving slow and we actually pass him. We come to an intersection with a street and we blow right through... it is close to home and is one of the non busy town side streets... no big deal. So the cop speeds up and we see him pass us. I say to my friends, "watch him pull us over for blowing a stop sign."
That is when we see the squad car come up an access path and block half the path. Sure enough he gave us a talking to about blowing the stop sign. I think he took issue with us doing it no handed... most people didn't follow the stop signs on non busy streets.

The problem with this kind of bike is that it exists in a legal grey area, the more of these kinds of bikes are made the more the law is going to crack down on them, and the more harm they are likely to do to the ebike legal situation.
You were probably going 20-40 mph on a bike path, past pedestrians. Around here, you cannot ride an ebike on a bike path period because they are afraid that the bike will scare the elderly, and cause general havoc. In truth the most likely outcome will be that there will have to be speed enforcement on bike paths to keep them open for e-bikes, and pedestrians. It's unfortunate, but at this point, unless someone wants to spend a lot of money making larger paths to accomodate more and faster traffic, otherwise we simply will not be allowed on those paths, and be forced to ride with traffic, which most people who ride would likely agree is less than idea..

It hurts the community as a whole, even though I personally am interested in those kinds of bikes as a form of short distance transportation, but think the E-Moped/Motorcycle route probably best for that market, however because you still need an endorsement, in most places, those will not catch on like they need to.
