    It always amazes me how "little" work you'd need to put in these vehicles to keep them on the road, but instead they are thrown in a backyard, in a shed or in the woods forgotten for decades. I'll never understand why people do that. Thankfully there are guys like you and your dad that take them out of their graves and make them roadworthy again.
    Cheers from Argentina!

    This brings me back to the days of the early and mid 90s to early 2000's when I was in bands and we would find any old forgotten van, bring it back to life, build a loft in the back so you could have a bed over your amps and drums, then travel around the states on tour playing any crappy dive which would have you.

    Like everyone else here, I would really enjoy watching future episodes of bringing this old van back to life. I think this is a really cool rig that has a lot of potential. And how funny was that when you shot your dad through the brake line with compressed air and made him scream? 🤣 I had to rewind and watch it again. Sweet! Good times... great to see the vans out and about... the kombi is my reference for pretty much everything. A couple years after i moved out of home as a teen, i bought a kombi, had it fixed up but then bought a workshop manual and learnt how to do most mechanical stuff. I even spent a year living in it, and obviously traveled quite a bit too.... I sold that kombi when i went overseas. Now i bought me a splitty a couple years back. Shes a bit rough but i love it.

    • @mikescudder4621
      @mikescudder4621 ปีที่แล้ว

      My kombi has almost as much play in the steering as your Econoline has! Down here in Brazil they often take that worn main pin, turn it down on a lathe and fit it with cage bearings... then they nick name it ´semi hydraulic´!! lol... I might give it go.

    Just wanted to mention for those that don't know, the reason the big pads go on the back of the drum assembly is because of the force balance when the pads press on the drum while spinning forwards. One shoe naturally ends up with a different pressure point area where the friction material is just as effective being smaller vs the rear pad.

    Really enjoy your videos and the van is kick ass..You never find them anymore and as a collector and restorer I know for a fact these things are hot hot hot..It's not because they didn't make many it's the fact that people abused them beat them up wrecked them made hot rods out of them or they just rusted in two.For having an all original drive train and not a total rot box she's a keeper.Love those vans.Great video great work

It was my first transmission rebuild. Thankfully I was able to purchase the good old Chilton manual for the transmission rebuild.

    My dad had a van just like this one. His was a a heavy half ton. He pulled a cow trailer with it that had our show cows in it. If we ran out of room in the trailer we would put some calves in the back of the van. We traveled all over the state of Florida with his rig. We must have had really good trailer breaks. One of the things I really like about this channel is it shows newbies how the work can be done without all of the fancy tools. As for the bushings for the idler arms, if you have access to a lathe you can make the bushings. The dimensions can be gotten and the material such as polyurethane can be gotten from various sources. Even bronze bushings can be made with grease slots which can be added with a dremel, and grease zerks added with a drill and a thread tap. I have made bushings before, and its not that difficult with a lathe, but is way harder if all you have is a drill....but it CAN be done. It would be cool to see the previous owners reaction to seeing it roadworthy again.

    I had one of these when I was an 18 yr old kid, bought it off my cousin. I think it was a 1970. No power steering and like a genius I put a tiny steering wheel in it to look cool. I found some deluxe captain's chairs on clearance and it was my daily for a couple of years. I eventually made some benches and table for the back, which converted to a bed, and had a friend's mom upholster some foam for it. It was the height of the boogie van craze, but I didn't have the money to turn it into a dream machine. I did have a helluva lot of fun with it though. I just wish it would have had power steering. Never again. lol

    That van is really in remarkable shape, you guys found a good one. It's your van but maybe do all the bodywork and paint it. Excellent video and great work guys 👍✌️🇺🇲

    On my TV, some of the panels look like the old phone company green color. (My uncle worked for Bell Telephone in NY.) Great job breathing life into it! I agree with the people who think you should make it into a camper van.

    That Blue/Green color makes me think it was an old Sears Service Van. They were everywhere and my neighbor owned one at one point.

    I would sand everything in and out, paint everything dark primer grey, tune it up, fix the vacuum leaks, put an air filter on it, put the fog house back on and ince see t in solar panels, and turn it into a real camper van, with all the cool sun powered stuff Casey LaDelle talks about that's solar powered and get wifi, and make a really cool camper van out of it! I have seen a custom 4x4 version of that model, was really cool looking!👍

    My dad always had these when I was growing up. My first memory is in his 65 Ford van. Then his 69 and 70 Ford Econolines, all shorty with no windows.
    And My mom always had the custom Vans growing up as well. I miss those days. Sitting on the dog house as a boy while tooling around with my dad. I always wanted to find one of my dad's vans. The one that sticks out the most of the one that's the Same body style as this one only no windows. White with a thick brown stripe around the center of it. I spotted it once years later sitting in someone's yard when I had my license. Went back the next day and it was gone😢. That was 20 plus years ago
