    It was very interesting to see you are on the Alaskan Cruise! I had worked summers in Denali, Glacier Bay, and Wrangell - St. Elias, and lived in Anchorage for 5 years. My first summer job in Alaska was working at a hotel in Denali while I was in college and taking care of Holland America's tour groups. For working in the seasonal Alaska jobs, I took Alaska State ferries through the inside passage and explored those port towns. It wasn't luxurious as a cruise ship, but I enjoyed the scenery! Living in the heart of Alaskan National Parks was so special, and great outdoor and photography opportunities. Thank you for sharing your adventures in Alaska!

      Hi Sunny, it sounds like you had amazing summer! We had such an amazing time on our pre tour seeing Denali and other sights in Alaska, it's a beautiful state. I agree, it is very special there and a cruise is a great introduction. Thanks for sharing your story.

      It is an absolutely beautiful destination and seeing it by ship allows you to get to some of the most remote locations in Alaska. I hope you get there some day too!

      That is awesome! And the end of June is a great time to visit Alaska. We have been there during that time on another cruise and it was awesome. Enjoy! Have you chosen any of your excursions yet?

      @scottsmith2505 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePlanetD No excursions yet. My travel companion wants to wait until we get there and see how well she is doing. She has a few health issues. But one of my dearest friends lives in Juneau and will be our tour guide at that port stop.

    As always, I loved your video. I've done an Alaskan cruise and loved it!!!. I still wear my blue diamond earring that I bought in Juneau. I want to go to Alaska again, but I want to do something inland, visiting Mt Denali. It is just a matter of getting my wife on board. BTW. I've adding your channel link to my TH-cam channel.

    Great video, with loads of really useful information. I cruised to Alaska with Princess last year (on Discover Princess) and had an absolutely fantastic experience. What I did find was that cruising to Alaska is SO different to a more 'normal cruise' to areas of, for example, the Caribbean, so it's really important to do some research before you head up there!

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are so right, an Alaskan cruise is not at all like Caribbean Cruises. It's definitely more of an adventure whereas a Caribbean Cruise is about relaxing, drinking cocktails and sitting by the pool, Alaskan Cruises are about getting outdoors, watching the scenery and learning about the experience. Both are awesome depending on how you want your vacation to be.

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the water was smooth and the ships have stabilizers. Because we are going through the inside passage, the seas are quite calm.

    Great info!!! I’m in the process of booking a September 2024 land cruise on HAL Sapphire. This is a bucket list trip for us and our first cruise (we normally do ski trips to BC and Colorado mountains), my husband is concerned about being trapped with too many people. This is a significant expense that I justified in part by the idea of a veranda state room, good food, and good service. Unfortunately reviews of this ship from this year are concerning, seeing complaints of dirty rooms, stained bedspreads, very long delays getting food in the dining room, and overall poor service. Looking at Deck 4 or 7 Veranda room. I would love your thoughts if possible. Also looking at Princess. Thanks

    So? It is Actually Possible to Get To The actual Glacier In Juneau. What they don't tell you is that There is another park on the opposite side of the lake from the visitor center. If you go on the trail about a mile on your right. Will be a picnic area after you go there. There's a little trail on the left that is the beginning of the actual trail to the glacier.

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip! I saw people canoeing on the lake for a closer look as well.

    Hi there, great video! My girlfriend and I have sailed Alaska in May of this year and loved it! We sailed with Royal Caribbean and are considering Holland next time around. Since we have already sailed out of Vancouver, we may do the one way from Whittier. Do you think there is more to see sailing out of Whittier compared to sailing out of Vancouver?

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm, it depends on the route. We sailed from Whittier to Vancouver so it can be the same stops. I would look more at the route you take. If your Vancouver cruise ended in Juneau or before Whittier, I would definitely start there. You can spend time in Anchorage beforehand as well. Have a great time and thanks for watching!

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s quite a large ship that can hold 2,000 passengers. But it feels intimate with all the different dining options, entertainment and little hidden spaces.

    Great video. My wife and I take the same trip this July. You show a check in at the convention center. Can you provide more details or send a link with more on this? I have not heard about this check in option. Thanks

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, are you taking a Holland America Cruise? This is where my parents checked in for the Nieuw Amsterdam. We were on a pre-cruise tour, so our luggage went on the cruise train. We had our luggage put outside our room to pick us up for the cruise train, but most people fly into Anchorage and begin their cruise there. They often have to book their own transportation to Whittier and the best thing to do is to book it through the cruise so that youare assured to get on.
      You should have this all in your cruise information package. And if not, they'll be able to tell you where to go once you land at the airport or at your hotel.
      There is usually a checkin at the airport or a designated area on your confirmation and then you can find out how your luggage (and yourself) is getting to the cruise. Hope this helps!

      We booked through the cruise in advance. If you are taking an Alaskan cruise, you can book it through them, but to give you more information, this was the tour that went to Neets Bay Salmon Hatchery with Taquan Air. Just got back from this cruise. Got sick on my first day on ship with a bad cold. My advice take a mask and pack cold meds they are not available on the ship. The food was to upscale for me.

    Sorry to break this to you, but you didn’t have a Veranda Suite. You had a VE Standard Balcony Cabin. The only reason I mention this is if people watch this video and go to Holland America or their Travel Agent demanding a Veranda Suite, they’ll be in for a shock. An actual suite is much larger and much more expensive.
