@@vond5829 i live in Yakutsk, sorry to probably upset you and destroying the chances to you living here, but we have +25°C in summer, but it lasts like 2.5 months and winter lasts around 6 months. today is +15°C
Let me explain a little. When they say that Russia is a very cold country, this is only partly true. It's only cold outside. But we don't spend a lot of time outdoors: 5-10%. We spend 90% of our time indoors: home, work, school, university, gyms, swimming pools, theatres, cinema, museums, clubs, etc. It is very warm and comfortable there: 23-25 degrees Celsius. You can wear a T-shirt and shorts, and you will be warm. Russia has huge amount of gas, oil, coal, so heating is round-the-clock and very cheap.
I live in Europe. We don't sleep with hats on. There is no place for propaganda under this wonderful clip. You have gas and coal, but not all of Russia is gasified, and you know it very well. But these facts have nothing to do with the clip.
When you’re born into an environment and that’s all you know, you cope and you understand what has to be done. These individuals who live here have been doing it for a long time… They know how to handle it and it’s amazing
And in the summer time, these parts of the world which experience extreme cold in the winter can get significantly warm in the summer, with temperatures of 30 C not unknown.
Exactly….it is like the old “country mouse, city mouse” story where each thought their home was fine and safe, whereas the visitor found life there hard and scary. We just are adapted to where we grew up, and know the rules and techniques for our home area.
Greetings from Yakutia❄️👋, Basically, we have -47 -54 in winter, but this winter it was -59 Celsius, this temperature lasted for two weeks, it was not just cold, but painful) but we are used to such cold, well, we have cold in our blood)), and in summer it reaches +35 to +40 Celsius, well, this is my small homeland)
Мне, например, очень жалко людей, которые живут в жарких странах или в пустыне, где очень мало воды. Тем не менее эти люди приспособились к такому климату, любят свои родные места. Вот так же здесь.Без настоящей якутской зимы мне некомфортно.
Museum of the permafrost says it all. As somebody who loves summer, this is absolutely mind numbing you have a museum essentially highlighting crazy extreme cold.
I have always wondered how did they ever build such massive and complete cities with such severe temperatures. I am amazed by the people who live there.
This is one of the best vlog about Yakutsk that I like the most. I have seen several vlogs about Yakutsk but this vlog have answered mostly all my curiosity how life in the city is maintained. Cheers from the tropical country of the Philippines! Very hot and humid here actually now!

I've been a subscriber to Kiun B for a long time now because I'm fascinated by how Yakutsian people have adapted and get on with their lives in a climate where most of us would struggle to survive. This is a great video guys, and provides a really good insight into how these amazing people don't just thrive, but enjoy life in a potentially deadly, but stunningly beautiful place. I'm really, really looking forward to your next videos from here and want to congratulate you both on going from strength to strength with your content.
Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow. He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
Huge respects to people living there. I was born and live in northern Ontario and I cannot handle anything below -15C. It's so painfully cold I'll cry sometimes and we get down to -45C! I'm only staying because my mother is here and my city is really friendly. They are a whole other level of tough in Yakutsk. I'm amazed they can make their lives and living conditions work.

I live in a humid subtropical climate in the USA. I love the cold!! I don’t like the stuff that can happen to you if things go wrong in the cold but I’d much rather be colder than hot. In the heat you can only take off so much clothing before you will be arrested 😂😂😂. In the cold you can layer as much as you want. I don’t think I’d like to be as cold as the city in the video though.
Interestingly, these cold continental climates, when they warm up in summer, are often plagued with swarms of flying insects such as black flies and mosquitos, which tend to drive the residents to their wits end. I guess the insects are more aggressive as they only have a short time during the year to reproduce.

This is the best video I’ve seen showing and describing Yakutsk. Living in Florida, USA, I cannot imagine surviving those temperatures. It surprised me to hear they can also have temperatures reaching 104°. Thank you for educating me.
What an absolutely mind-blowing look at life in the brutal cold of Yakutsk and the Sakha Republic! This video provided unforgettable insights into how humans can not just endure, but thrive in some of the most extreme climates on Earth. The scenes of you two bravely venturing out into the record-breaking -63°C (-81.5°F) temperatures with proper protective gear were already intense enough. But witnessing the local Yakut people going about their daily lives - from children happily playing in the snow to adults commuting to work - in those unfathomable conditions was genuinely jaw-dropping. Their resilience is incredibly inspiring. I appreciated the thoughtful context around the generations-deep cultural adaptations that have allowed the Sakha people to carve out an existence in this frozen tundra environment. Everything from their clothing, shelter, transportation and even nutrition is precisely calibrated for survival. Yet their spirits seemed completely unfazed by the hostile cold. The footage inside people's homes also highlighted the incredible resourcefulness and community bonds that sustain them. From the warm, spacious interiors to family mealtimes, there was such an atmosphere of coziness and cheer despite the bitter world outside their walls. While the sights and facts around Yakutsk's extreme climate were astounding, it was ultimately the human stories and generational knowledge that made this such a rich, eye-opening experience. You transported viewers to the ends of the Earth to reveal the incredible warmth and vitality of the Sakha culture. An epic journey!
I used to live North Sweden 🇸🇪 town called Kiruna. Temperatures were minus 30 and up. You can get use to the cold weather. And to see the Northern lights, is incredible.
I think you underestimate what minus 50 or 60 means - a huge difference to minus 30 ; for a European, it simply means that you risk dying every time you stick your nose out of the house.

Absolutely fascinating. Man, I get depressed when it's below 0°C and cloudy outside. It's interesting that some people are not bothered by the weather that much, because I basically only feel alive when the sun shines lol.
I live in Sweden and feel quite the opposite. I get depressed when Its hot. When Its about 25-30 degrees celsius and sunny I feel really uncofortable. And I dont like warm nights. Up here in Sweden people are more used to 15 minus then 25 plus degrees I think.
I love the snow and winter, it brings out the best in people who go out of their way to help others. Fighting the elements make people less susceptible to greed and envy. Although I find the heat in Phoenix to be oppressive in the summer I would gladly take it over the extreme cold of Yakutia in the winter. I hate being too hot but I hate being too cold even more!
I was born and live in Yakutia. In winter we have never had -81 degrees, as it says on the cover of the video. In Yakutsk, the maximum reaches -58 ° C, rarely -62 ° C. We have a dry frost, without wind, so this is tolerable compared, for example, with the frosts of Primorsky Krai, where along with low temperatures there is a blizzard, storm, wind.
@@bebenut123 -62°C is the lowest possible temperature that happens in Yakutsk. And then not always. Usually the temperature ranges between -30 and -49 °C. -30 degrees is already considered warm for the local population
@@bebenut123 And our winter lasts for six months, in order not to freeze, we have to harvest a lot of firewood in villages where there is no gas heating.

Growing up in NDak this video brings me home. We had engine plug-in heaters, and every place had outside plugs. I foresee these returning with the advent of EVs. The wind in the Dakotas is constant and brutal, with windchill temps occasionally well below -70F. Climate change has had extremely noticeable impact, especially on what plants we can garden. You get used to the cold; hockey, skiing, ice fishing. It’s a good life, creating tough, resilient and self confident children and self reliant adults.
And here I am complaining about the 3 months of cold winters here in Wisconsin, I give them mad props for their resilience and adaptability. Just incredible.

We rarely get snow where I live up north 🇬🇧 My favourite weather is snow when we get it , rain & fog .. it genuinely recharges me . The summer & sun drain my energy .

We are dealing with windchill temperatures as low as -40 in Massachusetts in the US. Schools are closed and I worked from home today. Can’t imagine how cold it is there.

People can endure anything provided they've got company! I mean, were it not for contributing everyone's efforts, life in Yakutia would have been much much harsher. But you can see railroads, apartment blocks and enjoy all amenities there just like in every other place in the world despite extreme temperatures. Makes me marvel at what our human race can do when working in unison and not fighting each other.

For me, a climate like this means you have limited options , life is more linear. You become wired to be grateful for what is. This can be a great relief for those who feel too lost in life. For some people, I believe it's a big draw. But yeah it would be important to socialize.
That is so heartwarming to watch ppl making another great video about my hometown 😍 Haven't been there for almost 3 years. Gonna visit this summer 🥳 Missing a lot! Thank you for this video.

This morning, 2/4/23, there was an arctic blast in the northeast, and here in coastal Connecticut, USA, the temperature dropped to -4°F with a -20°F wind chill (-20°C, -29°C). It was the coldest air temperature I’ve ever felt on my skin. It actually doesn’t feel that bad, as long as you have a hat, a big jacket, thick pants, thick boots, and thick mittens. It felt good actually.
@@harryyoung7076 I agree, humidity makes cold, and heat, feel worse. -20°C with 40% humidity feels colder, but at the same time more pleasant than 2°C with 90% humidity.
There is a big difference between Dry cold and wet cold. I worked with a Gal who came from North Dakota and it was -2 degrees in the PNW and she was freezing and I asked her how can you be cold as it is sometimes -54 degrees there and she said " In North Dakota it is a dry cold you get cold on the outside but here with the moisture you are cold right down to the bones."
Yep. I went from Calgary to Vancouver to train some workers. Taxiing in at Vancouver airport I was looking out the window and laughing at the ground crews all bundled up at -11 C. (Thats a borderline light jacket day in Calgary) Then I spent a couple hours with them. Same story
That’s why jumping in the cold water has more effect than standing on dry land, even if the air temperature of the dry land is the same as temperature as the water.
Completely agree. I grew up in this midly cold by 100% humid climate city and it honestly gets as foggy as England with Silent Hill combined. It hurts your bones and certainly no clothes, unless waterproofed and warm enough, can save you. I moved. I no longer suffer 🤣 but I go there once in a while and keep thinking of how I survived my life there. I need a blanket all day 🤣. BTW this is a Mexican city so a lot of people don't believe me but it's true ☝️😬

Ive commented about Lithuania.. yes the air slices your lungs. I kept a scarf over my mouth. Living in Ibiza it did make a change. Such a clean country. I was impressed. People a tad cold though.
Both of you are so sweet and I love watching you two, so refreshing. I love traveling with you and learning about places and how they live. Thank you so much

Shockingly educational video! Clicked on this out of curiosity of the place not expecting to learn like 10 new things about the way some people live on a daily basis. Thanks!
So well done thanks guys. I regularly check Yakutsk temperature because it's just so mind-blowing _and_ keeps my "troubles & discomfort" in keen perspective lol
I was in Alaska last month, saw the Arctic Circle and some other great places but one thing that fascinated me was the architecture and design of the pipeline and how the cold plays a big role but so do the moving plates. The idea that the pipeline has been built on stilts along with things to allow them to have wiggle room with the movement of the Earth’s surface is incredible; similar to stilts and pipes being built above ground.
To be clear, north pole of cold is not in Yakutsk. It's Oymyakon, small city to the north-east from Yakutsk. Min. registered temperature is −71,2 °С. Yakutsk a little bit warmer, only -64.4 °С. Thank you for the video. Nothing changed for 35 years
What an amazing city! Thank you for this and watching you guys go down the slide in the permafrost museum was adorable. Btw, no way I could possibly live there.
You guys always do a great video but this one was superb! It is interesting that the harsher the place the warmer the people.
This video isn't really about Russia though is it?
Or the energy in Europe 😂
Which you're incorrect about anyway, but thanks for trying 👍🏻

Yes, extreme cold is painful.
I think probably something in the genes, at least be born there to cope and be adapted to life in extremes.
That's insane. What a crazy place to live. I couldn't do it. It's 50° f where I am. And my fingers hurt just from that lol
I’m blown away. It’s amazing how, regardless of the weather, we find comfort in the small things.

Interestingly, these cold continental climates, when they warm up in summer, are often plagued with swarms of flying insects such as black flies and mosquitos, which tend to drive the residents to their wits end. I guess the insects are more aggressive as they only have a short time during the year to reproduce.

An epic journey!

minus 30 its not so cold.) Its normal temperature for many cities in Russia in winter

incredible how so many people stayed and even thrived, i wouldnt have wanted my family to live in these conditions for long
Of all the vlogs you've done, I think this is my favorite. You did such a fabulous job. It is visually stunning and fascinating. Thank you!
Thank you so much! We put an awful lot of work in to this, so means the world! 🥰🙌🏼❤️
We rarely get snow where I live up north 🇬🇧
My favourite weather is snow when we get it , rain & fog .. it genuinely recharges me .
The summer & sun drain my energy .
it’s not that hard to live there. i’ve been living here my whole life and i’m used to these winters. i can’t imagine a winter without -60 and fog. it’s like a part of winter for us. we rarely experience wind in the winter that’s why it’s easy to manage this climate 😅
Try living in 48c. You're adapted for that weather most ppl arent. Just like you wouldn't last in Arizona. It is hard to live there if you aren't used to it
@@jamal9613 exactly!
@@jamal9613 most of my winters were -30 and summers +30 . U just adapt to it.
Is it true when it’s this cold you can hear peoples conversations over 100 yards away?
You have internet there?

Loved this episode. Thank you both and the people of this incredibly diverse city.
Thank you so much for watching John! 🙏🏼❤️
The mist in the air is insane. Eerie but beautiful. That ice slide looks fun I want to go now lol as sensitive to cold as I am.
Ah, so you made it to Yakutia!! Did you get a chance to meet / collab with Kiun B? Her year-around coverage of Yakutsk and surrounding villages is mesmerizing 💙💙
Unfortunately not this time, but we met some other wonderful people 🙏🏼❤️🥰
@@MattandJulia Looking forward to other stories from there 💙

stumbled on your channel and I must tell you It makes me miss being able to travel in Russia. I rode a Ural motorbike2000km to Salikard in 2012 in the winter on the zimniks and in 2015 the length of frozen Biakal. For such a cold place I have never met such warm and welcoming people. Tho they all thought we were insane. Thanks for bringing back fond memories of a frozen land,
Thank you so much Eric! Really appreciate it! 🙏🏼 Welcome to the channel ❤️
Thank you guys so much for the beautiful and amazing video. I live in Maine in the United States and sometimes it gets and feels pretty darn cold up here but seeing something like this was completely amazing. Sure you just so easy we have it here. And what an awesome and beautiful culture that seems to be there. Again thanks so much for giving the rest of us a look. Safe travels and have a wonderful day.
Our pleasure! So glad you enjoyed it! Lots of love to Maine 🙏🏼❤️
Just a little colder than where I was born , Detroit, MI. Hooraah.
What a brilliant vlog. Honestly way better and so much more authentic in comparison to the stuff on regular TV. Best wishes for continued success going forward.

@@MattandJulia Well this place is not the coldest place in Russia if talk about the lowest temperature ever recorded in russia. The record lies in Oymyakon. It was -67 Celsius there one winter.
Russia has some of the most beautiful places on earth, I'm glad you check out Yakutsk, it's trully something special to see and to experience..
Couldn't agree more! ❤️
Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
Beautiful land, beautiful people, beautiful storytelling and sharing. Bravo, Matt & Julia 🙏🏻♥️❄️
Thank you so much! ❤️🙏🏼
Maybe some people don't like cold weather, but this video can change your mind and make you enjoy for little changes
We are dealing with windchill temperatures as low as -40 in Massachusetts in the US. Schools are closed and I worked from home today. Can’t imagine how cold it is there.
We feel for you🤣
If it was -40, in the majority of Russia schools would be closed or wouldn't be mandatory to attend
Wow that is cold! ❄️ In Julia’s home city, which is still Siberia, they also close the schools when the temperature is below -30’c ❤️
@@MattandJulia very cold and unusual for us. Our average low in February is 20 degrees.
Amazing video Matt &Julia. Beautiful storytelling. Thanks for sharing Yakutsk with us.
Thank you so much Jenn!! ❤️🙏🏼
Super 'cool' video 🥶 it's amazing what humans can endure, I cannot imagine how these temperatures feel!
Look forward to this series, thanks M&J, take care 💜🔥
Exactly💯💯
Thank you so much! Totally agree! Incredible people 🥰🙏🏼❤️
People can endure anything provided they've got company!
It feels very cold, honestly)
@@MattandJulia it is really horrible there I have experience huge fall of snow once and it is dangerous so many animals lose their life why humans are stucked inside the house without going to work and that results to seel of properties to earn living
I just wonder how these tress grown? So amazing
What a lovely place, just seeing it made me feels like being home. Hope I could live there someday.
What's the draw for you? I'm curious
For me, a climate like this means you have limited options , life is more linear. You become wired to be grateful for what is. This can be a great relief for those who feel too lost in life. For some people, I believe it's a big draw. But yeah it would be important to socialize.

Imagine who lives there
This morning, 2/4/23, there was an arctic blast in the northeast, and here in coastal Connecticut, USA, the temperature dropped to -4°F with a -20°F wind chill (-20°C, -29°C). It was the coldest air temperature I’ve ever felt on my skin. It actually doesn’t feel that bad, as long as you have a hat, a big jacket, thick pants, thick boots, and thick mittens. It felt good actually.
That's a continental dry cold! You want to see what the same front feels like, after picking up moisture off the ocean going over Newfoundland!!!
@@harryyoung7076 I agree, humidity makes cold, and heat, feel worse. -20°C with 40% humidity feels colder, but at the same time more pleasant than 2°C with 90% humidity.
Welcome Yakutia
There is a big difference between Dry cold and wet cold. I worked with a Gal who came from North Dakota and it was -2 degrees in the PNW and she was freezing and I asked her how can you be cold as it is sometimes -54 degrees there and she said " In North Dakota it is a dry cold you get cold on the outside but here with the moisture you are cold right down to the bones."
Same here in Colorado. Its so dry here thats its not as bad as the east coast where its that chill to the bone cold
Agreed. Colorado 7 degrees and Oklahoma 7 degrees are two completely different climates 😂
I'm born & raised in California. The coldest temperature I've ever experinced was 22 degrees.I can't begin to imagine or comprehend what -70 must feel like🤯
This was FASCINATING. Loved how you structured this one.
I did some work in Finland in the depths of winter when it got to -20 and could only bear to be outside for half an hour at a time. Painful, like the air was cutting me as I breathed it in. Can only begin to imagine what this was like for you both!!
had the same in Germany when it was -15, utterly freezing, here in the UK it's -3 tonight and this feels cold too, just not used to it that's all.
how are you going to fight with Russia so tender? freeze everything.

I live in the Ural region, where the temperature can drop to -20°C -25°C or, rarely, to -35°C. However, -50°C -70°C is something truly incredible, even for those living in Russia.

So well done thanks guys. I regularly check Yakutsk temperature because it's just so mind-blowing _and_ keeps my "troubles & discomfort" in keen perspective lol
Hahaha, this is actually a great thing to do! We are adding Yakutsk weather to our Home Screen ❤️😮
