    Dignity. That speech was nothing less than dignity, class, and grace personified. May Mrs. Rashad not be among the last of such a people.

    Phylicia Rashad, continue to be the light that shines to inspire people, of all skin colors, to believe in the strength of the self. The strength of self that can be a glory to your heritage and your family and your experience, that multiplies through grace to each person you touch.

    STAR!! We know her TV work, but this beautiful woman is a being of the theatre. I saw her work in this role and it was extraordinary, specifically, her acting beats at the end of Act one should be studied for years to come. I will never forget this extraordinary performance. This Tony was well deserved the first black woman to be bestowed with this honor. I will always be filled with effulgence because of this performance. BRAVA!

    • @MickeyDs14
      @MickeyDs14 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No she wasn’t. Diahann Carroll was for “No Strings.” Did you even look this up before writing your comment!?

    • @hayesmoses7754
      @hayesmoses7754 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MickeyDs14 Obviously you didn’t “look this up before writing your comment.” Ms. Carroll’s win was for best actress in a MUSICAL in 1962, while Ms. Rashad’s win was the FIRST for a black actress in a PLAY as I stated.

    • @MickeyDs14
      @MickeyDs14 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hayes Moses My apologies. I misspoke. I didn’t realize the Tony’s considered musicals and plays to be two separate categories! ✌🏽

    Only 4 Black women have won Lead Actress in a Play 😒 beginning in 2004 with the LEGEND Phylicia Rashad and continuing with these LEGENDS:
    - Viola Davis (2010, Fences)
    - Cicely Tyson (2013, Trip to Bountiful)
    - Audra McDonald (2014, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill)
    - 2020 sees Audra (Frankie and Johnny) and Joaquina Kalukango (Slave Play) vying for Tonys in this category!

    The speech was good except for the part about teachers who want to be teachers. Most people become teachers because it is something that they love to do. Very few people become teachers simply because it is a job. She could have left that lit bit of nonsense out of the speech.

    • @skmmmonae9323
      @skmmmonae9323 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your comment is what's nonsense. Your comment also excudes ignorance. I've had teachers who have said out of there mouths "I'm just here to get my coins...not to babysit". There are so many teachers who don't genuinely care about there students because I've encountered many. So what she said fits.
