Never saw this dhow but believing Tomlin in any way a better actor that Tandy on any stage in any regard is blind. Her chest was heaving she was so worried and excited.

I was fortunate to have seen her do this show in a smaller venue, a club in San Francisco, twice in one week right before she opened it in NYC.

As brilliant as Tandy is, she never could have done what Tomlin did in SEARCH FOR SIGNS. If you haven’t seen it, you really have no argument.
You're confused. The award is for "best performance by an actress." It's not an award to honor the best actress.

I did see her. She played multiple characters in a one woman show and was totally captivating. She swept all the major theater awards that year.
