I have to make a video like this for my Spanish-speaking friends. I still see a lot of misinformation about the different Asian styles and people don't look for information when it's free on the internet. Thanks Armin for sharing. 👊🏹😊

My first Asiatic bow was the Alibow Turkish Fiberglass. Its what I chose to learn thumb draw on. Before I got a Kheshig, I got the Kaiyuan fiberglass to teach myself with longer draw bows. I always felt like Fiberglass bows were perfect for learning on with how low in price they are and their durability.
    Great video as always.

Could you recommend me a low budget bow to get started in target shooting archery? Been looking around but not knowing what the differences are, im kinda lost. Worth mentioning is that i want to get started with recurve as i felt like that requires the most skill.

Ah my first Asiatic bow was a Skb Korean recurve bow. It's 48 inches strung. I still have it today.
I purchased the bow about 4 years ago. I believe I paid just under 200 bucks for it. It's been an invaluable training tool even after I got heavier bows.

OMG, it's a video I needed! Everywhere in Internet you can find "Turkish", "Hungarian", "Mongol", etc., but there's no explanation or classification (found some clarification only in one of Osprey's book about archery). It would be useful for me, thanks!

Returning to archery after 32 years. Been looking at recurve bows and the cost of retooling so to speak. You know how cars now come with loads of expensive accessaries you don't use like cruise control? That's how I feel about archery after watching Armin! I don't need all that rubbish and want a simple, fun to shoot bow! I'm going Asiatic and going to give the thumb draw a go.

  • @suunraze

I was told by Daylite Archery that the minimum arrow mass for their 90# @31" Monarq was 55g, which works out to 850 grains.
Max draw weight for that bow at 34" is around 110#, so that's around 7.7gpp. Just a data point corroborating your information that Korean bows allow low arrow mass, also at higher draw weights.

Dude, you want to try a real Korean bow made out of horn and sinew. I bought mine with the classical stump arrows that are used in Korean long distance shooting. It's absolutely amazing to let them fly up, up and away. Pause. Then drop down on the bale target like rain. They're very hard to spot against the illuminated sky, you just kinda gotta breathe and flow with it. My bow is 45 pounds but doesn't pull or kick much in the hand. I used to shoot European style and my club companions all think I'm an idiot and laugh at my shooting style. They find it interesting to put the arrows in a target 20-90 metres away, while I shoot at 145 metres only. It's a bit like Kyudo but without the brutal formality of the Japanese. It's more zen, if you know what I mean - not so many rules to come between you and the bow. Nice to see all your bows lined up and shot.

An advantage with long draw is being able to have a sight picture on the right side of the bow looking along the arrow whereas with the short draw it can be easier to sight picture more to the left side which is ok for shorter distance shooting but for longer distance shooting is more difficult to get tight bunches with..Any thoughts or comments on this observation are welcome as it my own personal experience .Great video as always Armin ..

Hi Armin, Your videos are fantastic. We, in Asiatic bow community are very fortunate to have someone like you to introduce us to practicalities of the sport. After watching your videos I bought and shot the long Qinghai. It has been great fun. I am looking now to get a a shorter bow, either Tatar or "Genghis Khan" or maybe even Turkish although I do not like the look of the handle. My question to you is which of these 3 bows do you think would be best for firing very heavy arrows (1000grain +). I am also looking for something with a different feel. Genghis Khan seems to fit all the criteria but I do not know how such long siyahs are good for firing heavy arrows.

I know exactly what he means when he says "Once you pull a 33 inch bow, it is hard to go back." I pull 33 inch on my large traditional Korean bow and once you taste it, you can not go back to anything less. There is nothing like a full stretch of the shoulders and the power it generates.

If people are taller today than 1000 years ago. Bows with short draw length would match archers with short arms. The question should be are we historically accurate or historically proportional? Because some great bows would be unsuitable for some archers

Korean bows are built with light arrows in mind because their target is 140m far. Their small siah and relatively narrower bending part makes limbs lighter, optimizing power delivery for lighter arrows. Not as good with heavier arrows.

I hope you find this as amusing as I doc: for a good 20-30% of general youtube video ads I get bows, bowhubting/fishing, "outdoorsy" type shops, etc. But on YOUR videos? Never. In a weird way; I get the opposite? Like, stump removal, concrete filling services, etc. I guess they're hoping i'll be inspired by your vids to then want to cut down and pave over the beautiful forests around my home??? 😅⁉️ SOMEHOW?!?! but when I listen to any music¹ or gaming content² or historical documentaries³; then the following are seemingly inevitable; 1: from mozart to metal, almost the EXACT OPPOSITE HAPPENS: i get gardening tools, potted plants, sod rolls, etc. it's... odd? 2: In gaming content, about 80% is fastfood, 10-20% is hair care, and occassionally a bow, or piano lessons; 3: history videos get ads for really tough belts, cars (modern, not historical), mobile apps, and terribly ugly dresses from "fast fashion" places (i'm a man...?)
So, no I don't have a "point" per se: I just thought you'd find this quite silly and amusing, as I do.

And I have a question for you, and no better idea of where to put it, so, here:
I go in for arm surgery next week. After a month or two of healing, they want me to "ease into" the hobbies I used to do. Well the injury that is now being finally fixed has prevented me from shooting for over a year, so i've lost a lot of muscle mass. And they want me to specifically do the *movements* of my hobbies to make sure the tendons and nerves are healing properly. Which has left me with a bit of a puzzle. ...should I try to ask a bowyer to make a, like, 10# bow? I cant even string any of my current bows much less use them. "Get a friend to string it for you" true, but I see them so rarely these days, that doesn't really work either. Got me wondering about plastic children's bows (like the sort that shoot suction cups, not arrows) and... maybe? I had hoped you'd have some ideas and/or insight. Maybe you or an archer friend has had to do something similar, and can share insight.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer; and thanks as always for being a wonderful creator on here! 🤗

Games have huge misinformation about Asiatic bows being inferior to European long bow, which wasn't the case at all, recurve bows are faster, more powerful, long range.

Great video indeed, unfortunately i had no luck with alibow. Poor quality and also a wrong bow delivered, so i cannot recommend them.

We get it, you are sponsored by Ali bow. Stop pushing crap fiberglass bows on beginners. Bows from freddie archery are far superior and in the same price range. It would be nice if we would see sometime an unbiased review instead of pushing crap Chinese bows that will crack, the finish on them is awful, they are mass produced. You can also buy bows for under 200 dollars from local bow makers wich are faaar superior in finish and performance than the crap you get from china.
