I haven't had piggies since I was a child, now I'm going on 70! So much has changed! I used to use newspapers and shavings and fed just pellets.I've had my new pigs for about three weeks, have fleece, hideouts and tunnels on order, plus getting an assortment of fresh veggies for us to share! Thankyou for all your great information, and thanks from Pooh and Piglet too!
As someone whose wife went and bought guinea pigs with little to no research, thank for this. We have been struggling along for a few months now and finding your channel has been a god send.
I recently converted to fleece (from pine shavings), and although the spot cleaning is more work (I sometimes use the vacuum cleaner instead of a brush and dustpan), it is worth it to me because of no more bits of wood shavings all over the house. (Used to drive me crazy) I found that I needed a fairly large cage for the fleece to work, because in a small cage the fleece just got saturated too fast with no chance to dry out in between peeings. When I doubled my cage size, it worked much better. Now I only wash every five days or so. At first I couldn't get the urine smell out of the fleece, but I found if I pre-soak for 20 minutes or so (and use vinegar as well as detergent), the smell will wash out completely. My washing machine isn't as nice as hers, so maybe that's why! Just thought I'd share my experience in case someone finds it useful.
Good to hear it's coming along for you. What cage size did you have vs what cage size did you change to? I have a standard large cage but I'm honestly not sure how "large" we're talking here
Your so right about the cage size! My cage isn't that big and we are upgrading! But I also found that in just 2 days, everything needed a wash all the fleece and pee pads. Hopefully like you said with a bigger cage it should be alright.
@@Chloe_-uk6vt Just FYI, I had to switch back to bedding because after a while I could NOT get the odor out of my washing machine. :( It's been six months and my clothes still smell funny/weird/bad. I have tried different machine cleaning products and nothing seems to help! It's not a very good washing machine, so maybe that is why. If I had room, I would get a second one.
They are all so cute!!! The silicone dust pan and brush are so much easier to sweep hay and poop off fleeces. Its interesting to see how people look after their Piggies differently.
I was just coming onto the comments to say about the silicone brush, my son and I only have the guinea pigs a few weeks, but straight away I knew I wanted to use the silicone brush, when the hay goes all over my sons carpet, the brush is so easy to use to sweep it all up quickly.
Aww piggies Look so cute most people think that guinea pigs are too much work to take care of but I don't think there as much work as people think as long as you have the correct cage size and the correct food they shouldn't be a problem to care for and thank you so much for showing me this
Thanks for all this info! I relisten to your videos while i am at work so i know everything I need to know before I get my piggies at the end of this year. I will be rescuing from the Los Angelos Guinea Pig rescue. I am so excited to bring home piggies! But I want to be 100% prepared before i being them home so thats why I am preparing for them 5 months in advance!!!! Keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this cleaning technique. Trying it out now with my two girls after having woodshavings for years and loving how much more efficient it is! Thanks so much for the tips, Sarah!
Great and realistic video! I'm sharing this to my guinea pig rescue page, people don't understand what I mean when I try to explain that guinea pigs need a lot of cleaning. This should help!
Some people like to use rubber- brushes to clean their fleeceliners, because its easier to get rid of hair and hay :) horseblanket-washingbags are good for putting fleeceitems in the washingmachine without having hair anywhere 👍🏿 And yes, willow looks extremely adorable in the hay 😁
Thank you soo much for the newspaper at the bottom of the potty bin tip. I forgot all about that. I use a little paper bedding and I have the kind with a grate that the mess falls through (piggy toe safe sized, of course). I find it sticks to the bottom, but the newspaper would solve that issue 😅
We just recently switched our two boys to fleece and litter pans from carefresh. I can safely say I never want to go back. My boy Milo is a large silky pig and very boarish. His fur used to easily get matted and have all sorts of things in it. It'd involve a partial bath and cut every 3 weeks to a month (he hates being combed and will actually try to bite). Since his fur has stayed so clean he only needs a trim when it goes to the floor. Our other boy Zeak is your standard short fur pig. He's small though and very active and the fleece leaves a nicer surface for him to run on. We clean our cage fully weekly and spot clean nightly as to keep things as clean as possible.
im so glad for this video, especially the part about day after big cleaning. youve discouraged me to adopt them but thats good for both sides, great thanks 🖤
your cage is basically my dream cage XD I've been working on making a bunch of pee pads and beds/cozies, and I'm hoping to someday get a litter box if we can find a way to store larger quantities of hay (since that would be cheaper)
Hi Sarah, Thanks for that great cage clean out video. I swapped from wood shavings to fleece last September and I and the piggies prefer it! I use a clothes brush ( the piggies have their
Hi sqeak dreams it's Rebecca Napier really enjoying your vidoes and you made it just in time for me because it my guina pig fleece blanket wash day thanks sokol much love Rebecca Napier

@SqueakDreams is it sad that I read your reply in your voice?! 🤣 I think I have watched all your videos from the very beginning of your channel! Keep up the great work 😁🐹
YAY another amazing video oh btw do you have any tips for New Guinea pigs I’m getting two Guinea pigs on the 1st of September( and I absolutely love!!!! Ur guinea pigs)
Thank you! I think most important thing to brush up on are the cages, diet and then taming for new piggies, I also have a playlist for new owners where I've put my most relevant videos going back 😃
Hii @Squeak Dreams!! Thank you for making great videos. Could you please do one about common guinea pig health issues, how they are caused, and how to prevent? Even including some experiences youve had with yours. That would be awesome!! Have a lovely day 🌼💜
Tip to make life easier; use pillowcases that have a zipper instead of ones you have to tie. I learnt the hard way but if you tie it, the knot is tight once it comes out of the washer and it’s a bit of a wrestle to get it open
Yes I have an old video on making cage liners and a newer one making the waterproof pads, its the same method essentially and the newer video is probably better! 😄
Thank you for your help I am going to start doing this, I clean their huge cage once a week anyways with bedding but I am soooo over it 💀💀 this looks so much easier!
Really useful video to understand the routine of flleeces cleaning !! ;) Thanks Sarah ! For the hay tray, do you change it every day or every 2 days and you add a little bite of fresh hay at the top ?
This is a great informative video! I am getting piggies soon and I have been debating on fleece or natural bedding and this pushed fleece to the finish line 😂
Hi, are you planning to make a video about how to make your fleece items I would love to see that, I'm planning on making my guinea pig fleece and what electric sewing machine do you use by the way love your videos.💕 and about the absorbent layer what are the alternatives you can use hihi \ps: I really love your cage planning on building a new cage and your cage is my inspiration☺
Hi! New piggy owner here! We inherited 2 and I thought their cage seemed too small and from what I’m learning I’m right! Your videos have been really helpful for me to start to figure out how to care for them best. I want to do a set up like this with the fleece pads.. what do you use as the absorbent layer within the fleece? Thanks!
Hi. I know I’m a little late to the party but what do I do if I’m getting New Guinea pigs which will live outside. How do I bond with them? I have one guinea pig who lost her sister on Easter Sunday and is 5. She likes all of the attention. How do I introduce them? Thanks 😄
Hey! Love your vids, keep updating us. So I have 2 guinea pigs and I was wondering if you should change out guinea pig water bottles everyday? I really need an answer! ❤Love the piggies❤
Every day not necessary. If outside the water can go green in the sunlight, so water bottle covers are a good idea. Also, find some small brushes that can get right to the bottom of the bottle to clean the inside of the bottle. Give the bottle vigorous shake and rinse - but NO detergent!! Don't forget the inside of the cap as well.
Ur cage is so nice and ik the piggies love up but how deos their water bottle not drip I have a little piggy and the water keeps dripping real bad i have to put a bowl under it so could u help me out?
There is a lot of information on fleece bedding, but I'm wondering, why fleece (polyester) and not 100% cotton flannel? Thank you so much for your videos! I'm looking forward to being a guinea pig grandma soon 😁
Hey love the vida what waterproof layer do u use on the bottom? Also I recently purchased some guinea dad fleeces buy they don't seem to be waterproof. Any ideas or tips would be awesome thank you
I would like to try making a litter tray like yours but I'm not sure I have the skills to cut the plastic. I'm sure my two current boys make more pee and poop than when I had 5 piggies 😆
Hi was just wondering how people handle the guinea pigs with the fleece, I cam home from work the other day to find they had chewed their way into the fleece bedding and I had to cut them out, I also find they like to go underneath the bedding alot which means alot of the pees happen underneath
How or where can I buy a liner for under the fleece blankets? My Guinea pigs have ringworm and it’s first for me and I have it too. It’s a mess and they are separated until they are both cured but trying to find ways to make it work when they are better with fleece and liners.
wow. You said that you wanted to get them a new litter tray! lol still hasn't happened yet XD also, how big is your litter tray? I'm trying to find a smaller one around the size of yours to buy :p
Hello! I have seen your video to make fleece pads which I plan to do. What is your main floor fleece liner made from? Do I buy that online or can I make it? Thank you in advance! X
Did you o your own fleece liner? the big one in the whole cage? Do you have to sow the fleece and absorbent layer together or can you just lay out ceveral absorbent pads underneath? What can be good absorbent layer materials? Guinea pig owner to be! Much love from sweden
How often do you switch out/wash each of the types of fleece liners per week? Also why do you have hay as the base of the litter tray? Your videos are really helpful 😊
Great video, I just got two baby abassyinian girls and they seem really happy in there new spacious cage, I have got proper straw bedding for the guinea pigs, it is getting quite hard to spot the little poops they make, should I be getting fleece liners?
Sorry but I had to answer this one! Fleece liners are the best. They can just be put in the washing machine and even when they're a bit pricey, they're cheaper than having to buy other types of bedding all the time. Also so much easier to clean and very comfy for piggies! I can't recommend them enough. The website Kavee does fleece liners in lots of different colours and patterns including one with piggies all over it. Also people do say that Guineadad's fleece liners are good but they are much more expensive. They come with a hidey pocket which is a good idea but maybe not worth the extra cost! All depends on what you like though. And I'm sure other brands exist.
Hey me and my partner love your videos, we have been watching a lot since we have got new guinea pigs as of a few weeks ago. My partner loves his horror and action movies, I was wondering if guinea pigs might be distressed from hearing horror/suspense/action movies? As their cages are in the living room. They never really seem bothered by the tv noises and carry on as normal. But I was wondering if you might have any thoughts on this? Thanks, Lana x
I'm a new piggy owner and I have a question about the litter tray I'm confused why would you put the head that they desperately need for food everyday inside where they're going to go use the bathroom or do I have that wrong please let me know thank you
Wait if I have two Guinea pigs do I just let them share a bowl and instead of 1/8 a cup of pellets double it? Or how much do u put in yours? Should I get two bowls?
Do you empty the hay out completely? I have a hard time because there can be pee and poop all throughout the hay.. but it's a lot of hay if I throw it all away every day. I have a litterbox of hay filled with carefresh bedding at the bottom for my hay bin
I do but if you want to try save hay the carefresh is an alternative. I find I always have to empty it and clean fully everyday though otherwise it starts to smell and is very wet!
Will washing the liners in the washing machine make it smell bad or is that not a problem. I currently am using wood shavings and would like to change it to fleece.
Thanks for the video! My daughter recently got a piggie and I'm TERRIFIED of all the poop. Is it possible to train to go in one spot? And I noticed you cleaning without a glove are you worried about diseases and germs? How often do you give them a bath? Thanks
Nothing to be scared of with their poop, it's just hay and veggies. And no real concern for germs or diseases being passed to humans. I prefer to clean up piggie poop than change nappies 🤣 Bathing once or twice a year is fine, they definitely don't need bathing regularly.
I hope this one reaches you. We are struggling a bit with the fleece liners. Could you do a “fleece liner for dummies”? We have Guinea pigs for over 30 years and if our piggies haven’t stop eating pellets we wouldn’t have seen all these informativ videos. You could say: we’ve been in the hands of the pet store disinformation Mafia to put up their salesnumber
Hey there! Hmm not sure why the site is having trouble with mobiles, I actually sell the items on Etsy though and the shop is empty at the moment sorry - whilst I work on custom orders, but I hope to be making more general sale beds etc. in a month or so! 😀
How many pieces of fleece, pads, fleece hideys do you have to keep your routine flowing?? I just got 2 pigs.. and also have 2 rabbits. I’d like to get an idea of how many pieces I need to what to get my routine flowing nicely.
I have about four cage liners, but three or even two would be plenty. Then I have about 5 of the bigger waterproof pads which is just about fine but a few more would help. And then I probably have about 6 smaller ones. So as long as you keep up with the washing you don't need that many :)
Glad I found this. Daughter wanted Guinea pigs. This daily cleaning looks like a pain. Nope. Lol.

This is so useful! I love your channel and your cute piggies 💖

Ah thank you! I tie them with bobbles and they are usually okay but I'll bear this in mind 😄
Great Idea!! Putting zippered pillow cases in my Amazon Cart Now!! 😁😁
I really like your videos I wanna get guinea pigs but i working for one right now
Is there a video that shows how you made all your liners? Just found your channel. Love it!

Thanks a lot for the advice if you haven't post this video I would never know that I can get fleece for 2 dollars.
There is a lot of information on fleece bedding, but I'm wondering, why fleece (polyester) and not 100% cotton flannel? Thank you so much for your videos! I'm looking forward to being a guinea pig grandma soon 😁
It’s softer on their sensitive feet and wicks moisture better!
Do you think bed wetting liners for toddlers would be useful.I don't have newspapers or magazines?
I also have noticed in your cage you have a wicker basket bed where is that from please.
Hey love the vida what waterproof layer do u use on the bottom? Also I recently purchased some guinea dad fleeces buy they don't seem to be waterproof. Any ideas or tips would be awesome thank you
Try adding puppy pads underneath the fleece!
with 4 piggies around the cage still looks decent. not that messy after every night at all.
I would like to try making a litter tray like yours but I'm not sure I have the skills to cut the plastic. I'm sure my two current boys make more pee and poop than when I had 5 piggies 😆

wow. You said that you wanted to get them a new litter tray! lol still hasn't happened yet XD
also, how big is your litter tray? I'm trying to find a smaller one around the size of yours to buy :p
What cage is this?? I love it!!

Wait if I have two Guinea pigs do I just let them share a bowl and instead of 1/8 a cup of pellets double it? Or how much do u put in yours? Should I get two bowls?
Thanks..do you find the pee stains hard to get rid of? I can never seem to get them out. Another great video 😁👍
So nothing goes under the fleece liner? Didn't you used to put towels under?
Thanks for the video! My daughter recently got a piggie and I'm TERRIFIED of all the poop. Is it possible to train to go in one spot? And I noticed you cleaning without a glove are you worried about diseases and germs? How often do you give them a bath? Thanks
Nothing to be scared of with their poop, it's just hay and veggies. And no real concern for germs or diseases being passed to humans. I prefer to clean up piggie poop than change nappies 🤣
Bathing once or twice a year is fine, they definitely don't need bathing regularly.
I hope this one reaches you. We are struggling a bit with the fleece liners. Could you do a “fleece liner for dummies”? We have Guinea pigs for over 30 years and if our piggies haven’t stop eating pellets we wouldn’t have seen all these informativ videos. You could say: we’ve been in the hands of the pet store disinformation Mafia to put up their salesnumber
what breed is Roxie? I have a sow who looks just like her!
Hiii😁
I went on your website with hope to buy some hide houses
But when I tapped on it , it didn’t work ?
Plzzzz help
Hey there! Hmm not sure why the site is having trouble with mobiles, I actually sell the items on Etsy though and the shop is empty at the moment sorry - whilst I work on custom orders, but I hope to be making more general sale beds etc. in a month or so! 😀

You help me care for my piggies much better🔆
Love you
Where do you buy the big cage liner for The base ? X
Hi
As a previous guinea pig owner I always kept.mine in pine shavings, I wondered how you would clean fleece mats, I thought they would stink like urine
