As soon as I saw the thumbnail and saw you, I knew you were British lol That is not a bad thing. You seem like a kool guy. This was a great reaction. You are right she is fire. She is soo damn fire, she doesn’t need music videos. Just a video of her on stage singing. Her lyrics and voice are soo good, and soo powerful, that we get emotional from that alone. A music video would probably detract from her voice, her vocals, and her song writing. She is a good reminder to us all that our words and our voices are powerful. We can use that power to help or to hurt people. That is our choice. But we should always try and remember that through our words and our voices, we are powerful. So we should be careful with our words, but also, we should stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

She busked in Cambridge Mass US and that was my first experience with her. Her first two albums knocked me sideways. I can picture my 5 floor walk up ,window on the alley apartment, working 3 jobs coming home and playing her music🥰 Give me one Reason is a good next song ☮️

Aretha Franklin next? That would be great.

She was such a fresh voice at the end of the 80's when everything was so processed.
A great song is a great song.

Unsung Psalm is one of my favorite Tracy Chapman songs as well as Telling Stories but it's not as recognized as some of her bigger songs.

This is from 1988, Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday celebration. Tracy Chapman played 3 songs early in the day on one of the side stages, but later in the day, Stevie Wonder was suddenly unable to perform, and they asked her to go out and do a couple more songs. With that exposure to a bigger audience, she blew up overnight.
My recommendation to do next would be Across The Lines.

She said muchas gracias at the end and there were Argentinian flags in the crowd. I think Mandela's gig was a diff performance.

another case of you should have listened to the album version to hear all the lyrics clearly .... will you ever learn ?

Not necessarily with Chapman, but sometimes true with her as well: live performances are very often better than studio versions: perfect clarity is rarely the most important aspect.
At any rate, I heard these lyrics quite well.
(You can always turn on CC)😉

I think she’s like Leonard Cohen, they tell stories in a conversational manner, with brevity and piercing insight, like “this is what I’ve learned”…
