No, the A320 does not have nose wheel brakes, although the Boeing 727 did, at least originally. The reason the parking brake is released after chocking the main wheels is to relieve any lateral stress from the nose gear before jacking. This stress can be caused by setting the parking brakes (on main gear wheels) when the airplane stops, particularly if one engine is still running. With the brakes set and the nose tires unable to move sideways, the stress could move the strut laterally as the jack lifts the tires off the ground, causing the jack to fall over. After landing, the parking brake is usually released as soon as the chocks are installed, to prevent hot brake discs from sticking together. Even if the brakes are cool, it is good practice to release and reset the parking brakes after the chocks are installed, to remove stress from the gear.
For everyone commenting about using a torque wrench to loosen the nut, remember he has to measure and record the torque of the nut for the maintenance records
Brakes are kept off even though Nose Wheel doesn't have the brakes. The reason is during jacking the nose wheel, the plane is lifted at front creates arotational movement of the aircraft , fulcrum being at Main wheels. Main wheels may rotate a bit and if the brakes are on it will resist the main wheel movement.
Yes every parameter is monitored to give indication on the cockpit and the info goes electrically hence CB pulled when working on the system as standard good practice. In this case tyre pressure, for main wheels tyre px and also brake temperature.
Best example to show how not to do a wheel change , (without any safety measures ) and how did he roate the wheel while torquing opposite direction or the same direction ?
I did 3 years in an equivalent to the american high school in the the Swedish aviation city Ljungbyhed and another year to become a technician at the school Flygteknik Technical Training in Nyköping, Sweden.
I'm an A319/20/21 technician, this is just a type rating course training video. Only for demonstration purposes. Later on every certify technician uses his own protection gear, googles, gloves, etc.
I'm pretty sure that you should set the parking brake outside on the ramp. But you don't set the parking brake inside a hangar though. Besides, the video showed the guy releasing the brake on an aircraft. It fails to mention that he should be setting the park brake if he released it in the first place......
Rudder at high speed, then as the aircraft slows the rudder peddles provide up to approximately 6° of nose wheel steering then a hand crank operated on either side by captain or copilot provides input to hydrolic steering actuators capable of approximately 30-35° turn.
Good way of putting out your eye - you never remove the Schrader valve stem (valve stem) - you remove the entire Schrader valve assembly with a 1/2 inch socket set and let it bleed down. If you remove just the stem, it is easy for the tire pressure to blow the stem back into the mechanic's face.
maybe you know why he must release the parking brake before changing the front wheel? i saw the other video with the rear wheel, and it made sense, since they needed to rotate the wheel, but the front wheel has no brakes anyway
Forgot to set the parking breaks & the left side wheel had a low psi which reads 55 psi & the other readings where at 60 psi on the computer !!!! But I'm getting my A&P soon but short videos like these are great for learning & they do help.
@Stingercam21 I do indeed. Although I never finished my practical training and thus never became a licensed EASA Part 66 technician, I have done all the exercises in school, including the paperwork. Never changed a wheel on something this big though, but we did it on a Fokker F27 once, and multiple times on a Cessna 150, a Scottish Aviation Bulldog, and on a Saab 105 (Sk60 in Sweden). Think i did it on a Piper PA-27 once too, for a brake job... Nevertheless, 30 minute job = 30+ minutes paperwork
It's not 'Landing Gear,' it's known as undercart or 'Gear'. Planes don't just land...they take off too and they taxi around the airport....so 'Landing Gear' name is not representative.
anonov1 100% you are mistaken. Both Boeing and Airbus refer to them as landing gear. Google a maintenance manual or check ata codes. Why do you post on something you know nothing about?
WRONG! Two things that jumped out as being incorrect procedure. 1- he used the torque wrench to loosen the axle nut. That's a no-no. 2- he doesn't have gloves on. While that axle grease probably isn't that toxic, it still has chemicals in it. Shame on you for posting this up in a public forum.
A320 is am mechanics nightmare.... compared to the 737 this takes about 3 times longer to do the same job... Why airlines buy buses instead of aircraft is beyond me....
Yes finally i can change the tire of my A321 parked on the street outside. Damn what could i've done without you!!!
Perfect video searching frm hours finally got it. Thanks mennn❤
Great video studying now to get my A&P great video for learning
Excellent tutorial! .. Will keep it in mind for when i run a flat in my A320 ..

I have to change the tires on my A320 frequently because when I land I do some drifting.
Nice video and Informative
Excellent training for me ! Thank you !

Thanks I've allways needed to replace my front tires on my airbus...
Really good instructions to follow
They didn't apply the parking brake afterwards?
Nice working
@dropmech Why is using a torque wrench a no-no when loosening the nut?
What is the point of placard on the brakes as the front wheel has none? Personally I like the brakes on so the aircraft does not fall off the jack.
I liked it,wish to be one of you
As per amm parking brakes should be on while removing wheel
For everyone commenting about using a torque wrench to loosen the nut, remember he has to measure and record the torque of the nut for the maintenance records
+Fred Hankes no you don't,you back off the nut after the first toque setting, then you re-torque it to a lower value
@itsmonti1 The chocks are in, you don't need to set the parking brake...
@Stingercam21 Hello, I have a question. why he selected the parking brake off?
y los guantes? cubrecuerdas antes y después de quitar y instalar rueda
So the bearing is just a glide bearing?! I was sure to see heavy-duty roller bearings there.
Very good i lije it and i want to do one time actually i m a techanician an light aircraft

Can u fit a 20" sparco sport rim?
huh what does the circuit breaker panel at the beginning has to do with anything ?
tire pressure has something to do with electricity ... ?
Yes every parameter is monitored to give indication on the cockpit and the info goes electrically hence CB pulled when working on the system as standard good practice. In this case tyre pressure, for main wheels tyre px and also brake temperature.
at the end you forget to activat the landing breaks
wtf is a landing brake??? you mean parking brake?
And when you're done doing all these, find a comfortable chair to sit in while filling out the two billion pages of paperwork...
Best example to show how not to do a wheel change , (without any safety measures ) and how did he roate the wheel while torquing opposite direction or the same direction ?
Arjun Muralidharan Yup, I caught that a well. Rotate in the opposite direction.
Good technical
@WeBashPeople It is easy compared to some of the other tasks you might have to do under heavy stress and with minimum tools and assistance as an A&P.
I did 3 years in an equivalent to the american high school in the the Swedish aviation city Ljungbyhed and another year to become a technician at the school Flygteknik Technical Training in Nyköping, Sweden.
How to: 14 bolt with 10.5"/11.5" ring gear - wheel hub removal and installation, demonstrated on a A320 front nose gear.
no BRASIL não usa o sensor de rotação.
а что это за приспособа для контровки такая?
Good to know. I am going to have to change a flat on a big ass plane tomorrow.

I've always been curious. .."how do you steer the aircraft when landing gear is down "???????..
Rudder at high speed, then as the aircraft slows the rudder peddles provide up to approximately 6° of nose wheel steering then a hand crank operated on either side by captain or copilot provides input to hydrolic steering actuators capable of approximately 30-35° turn.
how often does a tire have to be replaced
Cool

I use a valve core removal tool that captures the core to prevent injury.
John Wolf,
You seriously mean that a technical instruction video from Aerospatiale is wrong, but YOU are right?
maybe you know why he must release the parking brake before changing the front wheel?
i saw the other video with the rear wheel, and it made sense, since they needed to rotate the wheel, but the front wheel has no brakes anyway

howmany men does it take to change an a320 tire
muito bom
And he forgot to set the Parking brake at the end. Good going, Mister. You just lost your job and I just got hired on to replace you.

parking brakes??
Well this is no pit stop is it?
Why parking brake yo be off as there's no braking system on nose wheel assembly 😂.
why set the brake off, its only the nose wheel
The NLG of a jetstream is so easy
Did he loosen the axle nut with a torque wrench???
Bad bad.... :)

Thx, some douchebag stabbed my a320 tire and this tutorial helped me repair it.
@Tjita1 yes indeed.... hehehe talking in own experience ?

Where is the brake disc???!!!
brake only on main wheels
You forget to set parking brake "on"
Now I don't need to call AAA when I blow a nose gear tire from hitting curbs
No but JetBlue does, th-cam.com/video/epKrA8KjYvg/w-d-xo.html
LOL, They forgot to avoid the DIRTY DOZEN !!!
@itsmonti1 no , you see at the end that the parking brake is on
the guy forgot to set back the parking brake.
BRB, gtg change my airbus tire outside
