- Let me show you how to replace APU (Auxiliary Power Unit)
What is function of the APU?
In order to permit A/C ground operation independent of electric and pneumatic ground power, the A/C is equipped with an auxiliary power system. The A/C thus can be powered up autonomously, allowing the operator to service at airports without adequate ground power facilities.
In-flight availability of the auxiliary power system permits A/C operation under MEL-conditions and under ETOPS.

A few days ago i replaced my first APU on an A320 with 2 colleagues.
We need ca. 5h for this job.
The most stressful job was lower and lifting the APU.
Well done, actually work is easy when you know what to do.
I am an engineer in a MRO company that repairs APS3200.Thank you for the wonderful insight. Now I know how my customers remove their APU.👍🏻
And I would like to see how to maintain APU in the shop🙂
It's quite a straight forward job.😎
Awsome dude, I'm studying to be an aircraft mechanic and I've always been looking for a channel like this. From Hungary❤😮
I'm glad to hear that 😊. Hope that I will be able to provide as much info as possible.
Absolutely amazing video man. The way how you are able to capture the whole process is pretty cool
Thank you, I'm trying my best 🙂
A job well done! I've replaced my fair share of APU's and this video was fun to watch now that I'm retired. !:- )
Glad you enjoyed it! I have still a long time to go to get to retirement 🙂 enjoy yours days off duty
surprisingly straightforward, i thought swapping the apu would be substantially more involved. looks like a pleasure working on these planes!
I hope so boeing guy going to start on 320s next month
It is more less easy if you know what are you doing and you have a good team 🙂
As a safety tip: If you do an operational test of the APU with the compartment doors open, you need an external fire extinguisher. The one installed on the airplane will be ineffitient with that configuration.
Very good video anyway!
Yes, I had a fire extinguisher next to me. This is a must 🙂 thank you
Also pro tip: don’t start the video with an alarm blaring where your voice can’t even be heard.
Damn fascinating! Thanks for another superbly filmed and produced video.
my pleasure :-)
This triple Tomas team power daaaaaamn... only Kat missing and it's closing the circle of the Slovakish power i ll never forget in my life ahahah
Kepp it up. Such a good work :)
This is how we do it 😎 Tomáš power 😀
Dude, your videos are quite interesting. Haven't seen a lot of them, but I know how to replace the fuel filter on my A320 Neo now. Good shots, great explanation. And it's interesting to see an airliner from such perspective, since I usually see the bare bones of the plane, assembling big chunks of it. We don't build civilian airliners though, but I'm in love with 320.
Ooo yeah ! Now I m working on ENG and FLC station. This help me. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Nice effort.❤
Thanks 😊
The crank-mechanism i used to work with wass a pain sometimes, especially when moving the apu downwards; always hold the springloaded grip for the brake-assy inside the crank, otherwise it would be un-braked rush down into the ground :/
Great video!
I feel your pain 😄, sometimes it can be really hard to drop it down and it takes a lot of time. I'm happy you like it 🙂
krásna práca, radosť pozerať!!
Som rád že tu mam aj slovenske publikum ☺️
Aaahhh... The paperwork ;) Great job making these videos ;)
Thank you I really appreciate your message
Thanks for the information now I know what to do next time I replace the apu on my a320
Happy to hear that
Funny and original!!
Thank you
Wow, it's been years since I saw oil in a can! :-o Nice video!
Thank you 🙂
I don’t know if you know this but you have a twin on TH-cam called Misha, he’s more of a car guy than a plane guy but you know, planes trains and automobiles, All the same. 😂 love the vids!
Yes I heard about this guy already 😁, maybe one day we will make something together 🤣
@@zeto.r hahahaha maybe taxi a a320 round the Norberg ring 😂😂

super video, som prekvapený ako airbus mysli na mechanikov :D
Tak ako v čom ako kde 😁
Very interesting video. I learned a lot in a short time.
Glad to hear it!🙂
wow!that was truley a great r and r of apu.
Many many thanks
awsome change out.team work is good.i love aviation mechanics.good vidio
Thank you 🙂
You are marvelous. Congratulations as a pilot
Thank you very much!
Nice video! I love your channel. I'm working at KE as APG mechanic. Real work is not that simple. Right? Be safe.
Cool mate. Actually it is very easy if you knew what are you doing
Who makes the APU and what is its weight?
Awesome job!!
Thank you 🙂
Thanks for sharing! very nice video!
My pleasure
For super critical things like torquing mounting nuts, do you double check each other's work?
Do you have to complete check lists for all critical things like that?
Yes we need to double check every step🙂
@@zeto.r thank you.
Your videos are fascinating 👍
Thank you 🙂
Very nice task
What company do you work with?
Thank you. I'm working in Austrian Airlines.
@@zeto.r any vacancies 😊
Gracias a todos los mecánicos que participaron en el trabajo del APU.....
Thank you for your kind words
Was the old APU removed due to time in service or a failure?
Shop check
Great job 😊
Thank you
perfect, thank you.
You're welcome!
Can we start the apu with the left door open.? How to contain the fire if occurs any? I know it was open for leak check etc but....
Of course, you can and it is better to do it after replacement, bcs you see directly if there is a problem. You just need a fire extinguisher near you. Our hangar is properly equipped for such tests so I'm ok.
I've never worked on airbus aircraft before, I'm just curious , is the hardware on airbuses metric or fractional?
Hi, everything is imperial
Hi ! How is possible to enter to Austria in a entry level mechanic position ?
Thanks for your response !
You need to take a look at the career page for open positions and what are the criteria for that position 🙂
Hi,
While you were testing the APU , you kept open the apu doors . In case of any fire situation , is it correct?
Thank you for your good videos
Yes, correct. You need a fire extinguisher on-site
i think you forget to install thread protector on studs on vibration mounts during installation
We had them there it was not visible
Nice video, please I need a video with the trips and tricks with safety wire, my test for my license it´s going to be soon and I don´t wanna fail. Hope you could help with me with that.
What kind? That is straightforward 🤷♂️
Going to replace APU first time.
Hope your video will helpful for me.
I'm worried about Hoist connection and adjustment of the same.
I hope everything goes well
Hopefully, it will give you some guidance. Let me know if it will ok🙂😉
Does the APU run during the flight, or do the main engines provide the power?
Depends if one of the generators is inop. You can use APU as a second generator but in standard conditions, it is off after the last engine start, due to fuel safe
Can use it to supply the packs instead of engines if you need more power for take off right ?
Is the SO I only used in emergency.
What is SO?
what happens to the old apu? Thank you, greetings from Italy!!!
Well, just a shop visit
Do you need to torque APU mounting
For sure
Top demais ❤❤
Thank you 🙂
I am amazed that you can operate Apu in side the hangar!
Why not doors are open so there is no danger
@@zeto.r Our airline and local authorities do not allow that ! good for you!
👍 great. 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
good A 320 axillary power unit , APU , replacement # this electrical power generating component has complex mechanic, electrical & cooling mechanism # 👍👍👍🇵🇰
🙂
Просто все так устроено, и снимается удобно и просто. В машине пока двигатель или коробку передач снимешь, то зелёный станешь. А проводов и трубок в машине в 10раз больше.
I removed the engine on the car and it was ok, The time of removal is based on experience and tools
Novo inscrito deede Brasil 🇧🇷🇺🇲
Thank you ☺️
What is the model of your headlamp
Take look on video about it here on my channel
Any video of passenger seat removal
I don't have one since I'm not part of the cabin team but you have a lot of seats every company have also different configuration
@@zeto.r I want to see removal installation of HMU CFM 56-5B
I will try when I get it 🙂
Very good job and very interesting to Bi honest, can you please tell me how to get the license of mecahanic aircraft, o the moment I work mecanic industrial repairing and maintenance, thenkyou and have great success.
hello, first of all thank you. th-cam.com/video/C4a8qB42mzM/w-d-xo.html in this video I made a bit of summary about it, so take look
You are great
Thank you 🙂
thank you
My pleasure
All thing was right and as per procedure but in last you not inspected the MCD FOR particles after 10minute RUNUP.
and even no bleed the FUEL LINE .
I would assume that he just didn't show it as he mentioned they performed all necessary tests.
You got it right, I will not show everything. For that you have the manual. 🙂
Excellent
Any Engine removal procedure of cfm56
Not at the moment
Thank you
3 Tomas power!😅
Exactly
4:55 - jeden z Was, i Ty sam chyba też, to, jak słyszę: CZech? Słovak? Serb? ???????????
We are Slovaks, all 3
How many man-hours you guys spend for this task?
Well, it depends if everything is prepared and how many parts you need to transfer from old APU to new one
all that in one shift??
Yes of course it is not that hard if you have a good team and you know where all the things are 😉
❤
🙂
❤
🙂
Niceeee
Thanks 🤗
will the inspector punish you for not wearing a helmet and safety harness?🧐
We are not wearing helmets and since we have basically the biggest platform, which you can get why you need the harness?
Don’t forget printe apu hours before start remove
Done, all C/B pulled, I just didn't record it 🙂 because my colleague did it
Man, the sound of the APU spooling up and off.
It is cool right
I didn't know APUs were so unsexy compared to the main engines
It must be very compact. I made a separate video where I explained why it is like that
@@zeto.r I understand the goal of APU is of course different, and there must be space constraints as well. Also years ago I asked an electronic engineer why the reason for the 400Hz in aviation power instead of 50 or 60Hz. Basically with higher frequencies you can have smaller generators for the same power.
👍🏻🇨🇦
🙂🇸🇰
Now I can replace my own APU in the garage..
I'm happy that you have guidance now
You never put music over an jet engine, of any of its sorts, that start that is blasphemy, bare minimum is if the music volume is severely lowered.
I like it this way
@@zeto.r We the others hate it. :) Good and interesting videos though.
Thank you, lucky for you there is not that much unlicensed music available which I like 😂
Starting the video with an incredibly loud alarm was a terrible choice.
I had bit of time and this is an environment in which I need to work, I know it is bit too loud but sometimes it is hard to find time to record something. sorry for that
I rejected any idea of being a mechanic for any equipment as a young person due this thin of angling yourself in tight places to remove bolts and nuts , such a tedious working environment
For me, this was one of the best decisions. For sure I will not survive behind the computer
Had to give up after a minute due to awful and intrusive muzak. Pity.
It is the point of view of course you may don't like it for others it is ok. It covers empty sections
A great video for people who enjoy engineering. You are obviously a very good and experienced aviation engineer but a monumentally crap chooser of music. Come on, done spoil your work with awful background noise.
First thank you. And regarding music, this is what I like 🙂
Only 2% is shown
Of work?
Will support you to grow this channel, I just subscribed I first came across you on Instagram.👌🏽
Thank you I really appreciate it 😉
Why don't attach points have safety wires?
Because you have ther self locking nuts
Tell everyone how much this Auxiliary Power unit Costs new!
