    The old railway from Mombasa to Kampala is running parallel to the SGR and still functional.

  • @our10picks18
    @our10picks18 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The world bank says the SGR is now ripe for electrification in order to reduce emissions and fuel costs while at the same time speeding up the transportation of cargo👍
    So expect the SGR to be electrified in the near future! And the top speed for passenger trains will be ramped up to 180 kph!
    They actually wanted to electrify it in 2018 but preliminary research showed there was inadequate demand for electric trains in Kenya at that time!

    It's good to see that the train is so smooth and quiet, and also pretty fast too. It's a shame that the Ethiopian train can't run very fast due to the fact that the train was hit by the random livestocks so frequently. They should build the fast train railway high above the ground with viaducts to avoid hitting the livestocks, animals or even other vehicles.

    Kenya was doing so well under Chinese influence. Major infrastructural projects never seen since independence came up.
    We are really screwed now that the current administration is leaning west (IMF and World bank). Many huge loans with nothing to show for it.

    • @ugconnect
      @ugconnect  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's sad to hear

    • @lwangafrank2431
      @lwangafrank2431 ปีที่แล้ว

      But Kenya's huge loan has come courtesy of the Chinese infrastructure projects with the SGR being the largest loan contributor ever in the history of Kenya

    • @BensonNyasae
      @BensonNyasae ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lwangafrank2431That is what they would like us to believe. The new administration tapped around 500B in loans between Sept 2022 and March 2023. Last time I checked the SGR SGR cost 400B. If these people were serious, they would have cleared that amount and put their focus on another project. That's not the case. This month alone they are set to receive around 150B loan, with nothing to show for on the ground. Something somewhere is just not adding up.

    • @lwangafrank2431
      @lwangafrank2431 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BensonNyasae If i can remind u SGR Kenya was meant to go all the way upto Malaba border where Uganda wld pick up from but due to a sudden change of mind from the Chinese financiers construction had to stop in Naivasha meaning that the remaining section wldnt be completed meaning it wld serve no purpose so they had to find a way to make sure this project is completed or else it would be financially liable to a huge loss yet the Chinese are already waiting for their payment regardless of the challenges

    • @BensonNyasae
      @BensonNyasae ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lwangafrank2431 Man, that's messed up. Simply put, I think Kenya will not be seeing any major infrastructural developments in the forceable future. Just today I read that they have cancelled the 233km Mau Summit highway project initiated in 2021. That road would have made Thika road look like child's play. I really hope things work out for this administration and my motherland at large.

    My biggest fear is vlogging in front of people and the second one is having my phone or GoPro snatched in the process. Until I overcome this fear, I don't think I'll vlog in front of people. Currently the vlogs I have done I have had family or friends around me.

    I agree on the nightlife bit, Ugandans can drink you under the table banange 😂😂, i have partied in Kampala twice now, maybe it was the excitement of being a visitor, but the night life in Kampala is absolutely better according to me, no doubt. and the booze is soooooo cheap to the point that its unhealthy for a Kenyan, for 1000 KSH i get like 10 beers, that gets you 3 beers in a Nairobi bar.

    'If only nairobi could have had such bus terminus with articulate busses that operate with time and observe traffic rules with good manner, nairobi could have been nice and friendly city like Darusalaam
    Unfortunately kenya's public transport is run by crooks who operate wiith "mobile disco clubs" as a public transport vehicles with total disregard for traffic law.

Even Mombasa would still give Dar a run for it's money infrastructure wise.
